Way to Michael for challenging Stephen the moderator @ 42:37. Shame on you Stephen for shutting him down. It was relevant to Amy Berg's original point! Someone must be afraid of that answer.
Incredibly entertaining. This may be my favorite roundtable this year. The passion at that table was palpable and intoxicating. Fantastic filmmakers talking shop. Wonderful.
I've watched these roundtables for a 2-3 years now. And this was one of the best if not the best. I learned a lot and now I have a lot of movies on my watch list. Please, please this needs to be done every year like the other roundtables. Also bring back the comic con round table.
What I love in this roundtable is that all the documentary film makers in the video get along really well and are clearly enjoying a discussion and band together when Steven Galloway challenges their need for facts to tell truth.
The directors at the directors round table for fiction films felt like they were more distanced and detached from one another.
Easily one of the best round tables. You can tell each filmmaker deeply appreciates eachother and their works
I loved this the filmmakers stood up for themselves
jasmine rewane.
That final story from Liz Garbus, then punctuated by Michael Moore was eye opening and brilliant.
Roundtable episodes are always the best
so glad they had this roundtable on documentary filmmakers this year! It was an interesting and engrossing discussion.
The best conversation I've ever been a part of!! Simply fantastic
This roundtable was amazing. I could have listened to this guys for another 2 hours. I just hate that Galloway has to interrupt them. I like that he asks challenging questions but I don't like that he doesn't let them answer what he asked to begin with.
But this group seemed to honestly like and respect each other and I hope they do another documentary roundtable next year.
Where is Joshua Oppenheimer?
This is absolutely fascinating and I now want to see all these films!
This is a great round table...I rally thought I was there....really helps to hear these comments I agree with to help keep creating!
Alex Gibney does amazing work.
Well I'm glad they decided to include documentary makers on their roundtable this year. Definitely one of the best/most fascination roundtable. Shame about that Galloway guy.
Documentary is a branch of the expressive arts, not a science, hence Michael Moore is absolutely correct. Two people could make a documentary about the same topic and though the facts will stay the same, its representation or expression as it may, would most likely be completely different.
Is Galloway here to debate his point of view of facilitate conversation?
both, I suppose.
This was a great roundtable, each compliment each other so well, if you take a look at the one for 2017, everyone is at each others throats
Loved this one.
Best documentary roundtable yet.
British? Always interrupts speakers? Keeps asking the same questions? Must be Steven Galloway!
+rulzzzzzz If you weren't acting/directing/producing, what would you be doing?
NO BODY CARES. That's literally the opposite of the subject of this panel.
+ThatRyanD Just like nobody cares about you or your shitty channel. Irony much?
but these filmmakers stood up for themselves when he tried to attack them they all banded together and shut him down everytime
+rulzzzzzz I bet he'd interrupt the intro theme to his own show if he had one.
Although, he is a good asker of questions. I mean, look how good the discussion was. it got heated because he asked controversial questions and interrupted to poke more into the subject
Just saw Meru - loved it.
Amazing!
Damn. This was very very good.
Best roundtable so far! Proficiat!
Best roundtable I've seen yet. I like the moderator.
No Joshua Oppenheimer or Matthew Heineman?
Vi "Bowling For Columbine" de Michael Moore y es muy buena. Amo ese final.
"What A Wonderful World" de Joey Ramone es la cancion de la pelicula.
Chuza!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will there be a Composers Roundtable this year?
I usually don't like Galloway but he does a really good job here of challenging the panel and getting some really good stuff out of them as a result. I wish he did that with the other roundtables instead of just interrupting them.
Chai Vserhelyi is gorgeous.
Was Oppenheimer nominated, but not able to be there? Can anyone clarify?
So tired of the criticism of Galloway. He asks questions that provoke strong, impassioned discussion. You can see that in the responses. It's not just a polite conversation where everybody gives professional, cold answers that don't mean anything. He does his job superbly well.
+Dylan Blue His job is to ask questions but he isn't a part of the conversation. He shouldn't be having discussions with them, he should be leading their discussion. I agree he ask good questions but he shouldn't interrupt.
+Dylan Blue I agree that he manages to get fascinating answers in response to his questions, but that's just it. He asks a strong question then doesn't allow them to finish their thoughts. Personally, I watch these round tables for the information communicated by the artists. Not to see this man repeatedly cut off interesting ideas or thoughts.
I agree. I do think he's a little rude, but he directs the discussion well. I hated when he bulldozed over Michael Moore talking to the crew though...You can't be afraid to follow where the conversation goes. If it doesn't go somewhere interesting, they can always cut it out.
Asif Kapadia?
where is sharmeen obaid chinoy ?
NGL I mistook the imagine of Michael Moore in the thumbnail as an image of Mad-Eye Moody from Harry Potter
best roundtable, stephen galloway popped a vein
LOL the title has documentarians in it not film makers.
Hey Liz Garbus, just because you think of something to say, doesnt mean you should bulldoze over someone else before they've finished their thought.
I like the diversity represented at the table, good job on that HR ;) #notbeingsarcastic
Agreed. Human Resources really pulled their weight this time.
michael moore's got the gullet of jabba the hutt
20:45 aw Alex Gibney if you only knew whats happening to the Ziegfeld...
For those of you complaining about Stephen Galloway, you need to kindly shut the hell up :) You know nothing about journalism in any form. I used to be a journalist in the military, never in the civilian sector, but I got a good taste of it. Stephen is perfect for these interviews for a few reasons. He's very straight-laced and to the point, doesn't cut any BS, he's assertive, and always professional. Assertive being the key word here. He keeps the conversation going, and the only reason he interrupts is because they need to stay on track, and artists, like myself, are really good at fucking rambling on for days.
You have to be assertive and be able to keep the flow of the conversation, as well as address important points, all while keeping it within a specific time frame. That can be a difficult task. All of these auteurs are at the top of their game. They are all a little arrogant (and have a right to be) and they have strong opinions and personalities. Stephen, and from what I've seen, most of his colleagues as well, are pretty good at handling these roundtables.
I've watched a ton of roundtables, and I've been surprised at how good some of them are. I'm an actor, but I watch them all; the directors, cinematographers, etc. Lot of good info in these. Do I think Galloway is the greatest journalist? No. Do I think they could find someone better? Maybe, but he's good enough. Interviewing these artists is not as easy as it might seem. What you see here is a nicely edited finished product. That's not how it starts.
People need to stop pissing their negativity on here. These interviews don't exist for people who want to bitch and complain over nonsense. They exist for intelligent people to learn more about the industry, and for folks like myself who work in this industry every day and appreciate the insight from other professionals.
Not only that, if I had something negative to say, I certainly wouldn't post it here. When you do that, you're leaving a trail of stink behind you. And if I did that, it's not going to get me any acting jobs. So it's pretty clear who the complainers are... just that, complainers. Folks who essentially don't know shit about film, acting, journalism or anything in between.
UA-cam can be a place to network if you take the time to do it, and have respect for other people. It can be used as a place to make some connections and content for people to enjoy... or, it can be a place where you unload your shit, make no friends, create enemies, and make your life worse. If everyone took that into consideration, they might think before they comment.
thr where the fuck is the composer roundtable??!!!
Glaring omission here of Joshua Oppenheimer's The Look Of Silence. All of these filmmakers are legit and deserve recognition, however, Oppenheimer has done unequaled work over the last decade and it is a complete travesty that he is not getting his due, and in course, having his message reinforced through the endorsement of establishment avenues. Are they afraid?
Hanji same. Bilkul nahi.
