Thank you for explaining how to cut the flowers in a way that the stem size is big enough to hold up the next flower. All the best for 2025 to you and your family!
Thank You, got some "City Lights" this year. The leaves are almost black with beautiful red flowers. New veriety this year I think, you should check em out. Bless.
brilliant video - so helpful to see them in the bed AND in the vase all together so that one can really compare shapes and colors...! Many greetings from Vienna!
Your Dahlias go so well with the Orange Dahlia , I adore orange and apricot with pinks . Your lime plant with Vancouver is gorgeous, what it is ? Perfect lime with colours , it might not be lime foliage it could be the petals. I’ve never liked Dahlias, you’ve changed that for me , I will have many next Summer for sure . Thank you 😊
Yes, the orange one is growing on me - maybe I'll keep it. Someone said it looks like Sylvia and I agree it does. Hope you enjoy your dahlias next year - I think they're wonderful plants. 🌸
WOW ! Your dahlias are amazing .💐 I would love to give ,Danique , Babylon Bronze a try . I purchased 2 dahlia’s this year that were miss labeled so disappointing 😢 . Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much. It's really annoying when you end up with the wrong dahlia - try to go back to the supplier with photographic evidence - they should definitely refund you.
Such beautiful dahlias. Love them. I am going to grow Penhill Watermelon, Hillcrest Kismet, and Mingus Alex next year. Favourites from my garden, this year, are Babylon red, Babylon Bronze, Rancho, David Howard. Labyrinth and Richard's Fortune, I grew Danique for the first time this year, and I love it. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous blooms with us - I can't bear to cut mine- you are so brave! Happy gardening :-) x
Beautiful dahlias. I ordered five Dinner Plate dahlias of different colours and only one is a Dinner Plate. We've been getting a lot of rain here. Bonny
Thanks Bonny. What a shame about your dinner plate dahlias though - you should go back to the supplier - they really should refund you. Our weather has also been awful this year. And much colder than normal - I think the dahlias are loving it though!
Stunning! I love them all but Vancouver has to be my favourite. I'm always amazed that something so beautiful can come from a tuber. I only have a few Dahlias but seeing yours has made me want more.
9:46😍 and I like the orange ball with it; reminds me of my Sylvia, but Sylvia gets 6 ft. tall for me. I love how your dahlias mingle and don't look leggy. I'll keep looking at your videos and maybe I'll find some tips for that. I just started growing them about 4 years ago, so I'm doing pretty good for a beginner. I appreciate the cutting tip early on in this video.
Your Dahlias are truly spectacul, Do you have any tips for growing in Ireland where we have lots of rain and subsequently lots of slug problems. Many thanks for your wonderful videos.
Thank you so much Catherine. I try to avoid the slug problem by starting my dahlia tubers in pots and keeping them indoors until they have at least 2 sets of leaves. I harden them off at this point but only leave them out during the day and them bring them in every single night until they are BIG. I find that once they're a substantial enough size, they can fight off any slug damage and so I can plant them out without any worries. We also use nematodes at the beginning of the season and this helps with slugs (has no effect on snails, though. unfortunately).
We were fortunate enough to go on holiday at the beginning of this month for nearly three weeks. We have a mixture of dahlias planted in borders and also in pots in our front and back gardens. Our good fortune in being away whilst it rained the whole time has been tempered on our return. Big healthy looking plants ( both in border and pots) when we left have been reduced to absolute sticks . I can only assume that the slugs have had a great time . A few plants have struggled valiantly on but it’s rather a shame as they were looking very promising before we left and hadn’t really started to flower . It seems to me that the dark leaved varieties have suffered more. @@cottoverdi

I love your dahlia videos ☺ W e are gearing up for our dahlia season Down Under. I wonder how many tubers you plant of each variety to get your show of blooms ? Some of my first year tubers did not get many flowers - wondering if that is normal when the tubers are still small ? Is it also normal for some varieties to have thinner stems ? TY 🌸🌸
Hi Jacqui, many of mine are just 1 tuber this year because I lost so many over the winter so I had to replace some. I bought 1 of each and will divide them over the winter so that I have more next year. The exception to that is that I have about 6 tubers of Great Silence because I love it so much. Yes, some varieties have thinner stems and will need more support. I'm lazy so tend to only grow dahlias that need less support. Also, when deadheading, it's best to cut lower down so that the new shoots are thicker. Sometimes, if a dahlia is very young, you may not get many blooms but it really does depend on the variety. The vase majority will produce loads of blooms even if it's just a cutting. Dahlias prefer cooler temps - which is why they're doing so well in UK this summer 🤪. If they're too hot, they may struggle to perform.
Beautiful. But I could not read the variety names on the screen, way too small. If you can make it a lot bigger and in black writing would be so helpful! Thank you
I’m so sorry you had difficulty reading the names. It’s not possible to change videos once they’re uploaded but if you replay it, you can try pausing the video when you see a tag that’s you’d like to read. Also, try to use the UA-cam setting that allows the maximum pixels when you play the video. Hope this helps.

Wow! Love your collection of dahlia's Annette. I grew and cut my very first dahlia today. It had a little bug damage but it was still very pretty.
How wonderful Patti! Nothing brings me more joy than the mass of colour you can get from a few dahlias at this time of year.

Could the red and white dahlia be a "karma yin yang" dahlia?
It might be - or it could be Tartan. I really don't know but I'm definitely not that fond of it!
