Wow~ I am so touched again by stopping by the wonderful dahlia garden. Your love for dahlias is the same as mine. Thank you for showing me the precious dahlias. 🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍👏👏👏
Even with the inclement weather you've produced a spectacular display yet again. Down here on the south coast, the strong winds this year has destroyed most of mine - I need stronger support me thinks ! Thanks for showing.
So many UA-camr's are professional growers or flower arrangers who when discussing dahlias are looking at the merits of dahlias purely as cut flowers. Of course, the best dahlias for a garden are often quite different so your critique has been really useful. Thank you.
Thank you for such an informative video. I visited Hall's of Heddon yesterday, and it was amazing, the blooms look much better in real life than in their catalogue.....I'm going to get a few new varieties ordered! Keep up the good work.
Your stock of Hillcrest Candy looks perfectly ok, still having more white in the centre than some i have seen. As long as it is getting to a good height i would definitely persevere with it.
The hot dry summer meant you weren't alone in having some varieties thinner on the number of petals than usual. You are right that varieties may sometimes break down and show open centres but thorough and consistent selecting of stock should ensure this doesn't happen. We had a problem with B J Beauty about 15 years ago where our stock didn't perform as well with the majority of our stock producing open centred blooms. We ruthlessly discarded anything that looked substandard and rebuilt our stock from the few plants that were of the quality we would expect . WE have never had any issues since. Our White Charlie Two has also been superb though we have had a similar issue to you with our Spartacus. We had to discard Irish Glow as the stock broke down with virus, probably the reason why yours aren't flowering as well. WE used to have it growing up to at least 3ft but one season we had issues and plants never achieved more than 18"!
A bit like the dahlia Maxime, with age I have also rather gone in the middle. So interesting to see the shots of your open days and then see the havoc the weather has caused since.
I am from pakisan and i have learnt all my dahlia expertise from Geoff and Heather videos. I am trying to make my front lawn as yours. Plz tell me the names of other small flowers in the front row. plz plz plz plz
The small red and pink flowers at the front of the beds are Begonia “Sahara Mixed” The tall blue flowers at 0:32 are Aster “Monch” and the yellow flowers in front are Rudbeckia “Goldsturm”. I also grow Verbena Rigida, lots of different Salvias, three varieties of French Marigolds, and blue Heliotropes
It’s not one of my favourites, but Heather likes it. When it’s at its best it’s pretty, but I don’t like the way the petals go brown as soon as it’s past it’s best. It is quite a short grower

You have a beautiful garden

Down here on the south coast, the strong winds this year has destroyed most of mine - I need stronger support me thinks ! Thanks for showing.
Beautiful - you must have had more than the usual amount of work preparing for this lovely show. Thank you both for sharing this.

Thank you for this video. I understand now that maybe i need to change some varietes for next year. And you are so wonderful as always.

Nice

Thanks David, I will stick to Candy!

Thanks David, I will throw out the substandard WC2 plants.

I’ve just found out that the dahlia at 22:45 is in fact Hadrian’s Delight, ie not Rossendale Jojo!
Great video. Can you please reccomend a lilac lavender dalia?
There’s one called Taratahi Lilac that’s very pretty
I've seen Creme de Cassis in a few different gardens this year and thinking of trying it myself next year. How did you rate it ?
It’s not one of my favourites, but Heather likes it. When it’s at its best it’s pretty, but I don’t like the way the petals go brown as soon as it’s past it’s best. It is quite a short grower
