Hi Jossy, I'm in West Auckland and I love dahlias bought some from warehouse.i have this pompom dahlia for over 10 years and it's growing higher each year
serin nisha hi to another kiwi. I’ve totally changed my garden. Now full of perennials, dahlias some roses , bulbs and different plants. Bees and butterflies haven. I’m in Motueka 😊
Erin...it was after watching this video that I decided to plant/grow Dahlias for the first time. Planted the tubers this Spring and now they are blooming along the perimeter of our vegetable garden and so I wanted to say thanks for the encouragement and insight into growing them. I was dragging my wife and mother-in-law outside after dinner the other night to see them and they couldn't believe how beautiful they are. My wife has already asked if we can expand them for next year and we definitely will. Thanks for all you do to challenge and encourage gardeners to try new things!
I missed you!!! But I'm glad you had a vacation too! We'll always be here for you when you get back, no worries there! ♡ Your "Dahlia problem" is my luxury!!! Ha! I say - keep it up! What a wonderful color explosion for me to watch on this rainy day!!! Thanks for sharing!! ♡♡♡
Neem oil works great on spider mites. Use the concentrate, not the ready mixed (aka, over diluted) spray bottles. I have won many a battle against those little demons with neem oil. And of course the Dahlia Society would tell you to rip yours out: you'll have to buy replacements, which is good for the dahlia industry. Spider mites are only cosmetic; they don't affect the tubers at all. At the end of the season, prune them back and hit them hard with the neem. Next season, when they start to put on new growth, neem them again at the first sign of damage.
OMG!! I’ve never considered planting dahlias before subscribing to your channel earlier this year. I watched you plant them and your enthusiasm is contagious. I’m sold! I have a couple of collections on order to try out in the spring and I just can’t wait! Thank you so much for sharing these beauties. They are amazing! I just can’t say enough. 🌺😍🌺😍❤️😍❤️
You’re a bad influence. While watching I was making notes of what I want for my garden next year 😕. As if I don’t have enough already, all because of YOU Erin. Gorgeous tour.
This was my first year growing Dahlia's and I just picked up a bag from Walmart...but man a great flower! The blooms are huge, they last a long time and I have already had so many blooms and lots more to come. I want to thank you for the tip about starting them early in pots and I'm so glad I did. I bought one later and just planted it straight in the garden and I haven't had one bloom in it where as rhe others have been blooming for over a month! And the other trick I learned from you is to cut off the middle stem when the plant is about a foot tall to create alot of blooms. I was hesitant to do it but I am so glad I did!! Thankyou for the advice! Now I will have to watch your video on storing them....😊
oh, so many gorgeous dahlias! I'd love to see a video of how you get them up out of the soil, preparation for storing, and how you store them, with pictures if that would be possible. A lot of people talk about it, but doesn't show (and I'm a very visual learner), so I'd really appreciate it. Also, including anything you do for them throughout the winter (if there is anything). Thank you for a wonderful video!
My first year growing Dahlias. 3 different kinds. Dinner plate was one, yellow and it was outstanding! Just gorgeous, all of them. Hope i can store these and have them again next summer. They seemed to love the spot I choose for them.
There's no such thing as a "dahlia problem" - one can never have too many or too many of one variety, LOL. Your garden looks amazing in all of the shots, not just the dahlias. Bad gardening year for many of us, but a GREAT year for garden pests it seems. Thanks for the tour!
My first year for Dahlias. I'm zone 8a in central Texas and now I'm addicted! You have the most gorgeous Dahlias. I'm so envious but challenged as well. Thank you so much for the tour. 🥰👍
This video made me smile, it reminds me of my parents garden growing up. It is spring now in South Africa, so guess what I’ll be hunting for to plant 😍
Thank you so much for sharing, along with the addition educational links which I’ll be watching shortly... and saving to my library. I planted 7 dahlias this year and I’ve enjoyed them so much. I will definitely be planting so many more next year... and saving what I’ve got this year, thanks to you! Thanks for the inspiration!!
I love that you're so passionate about Dahlias - it's totally enabling - I wasn't that keen on the balls until I saw how lovely they looked in your garden, I've added 5 to my collection this year and cannot wait for dahlia season to start here in NZ! Your Cafe Au Lait impostor might possibly be "Red Labyrinth"
I love the ball dahlias! Keep buying them! I’ve tried growing dahlias for the past several years and have never had a fabulous experience. I planted some that were already blooming this year and they fried in my hot sun even though they are on drip. I also have a really hard time getting anything that says, “dinner plate” size to bloom bigger than 3 or 4 inches. I think I need to keep working on it. Thanks for your inspiration!
In East Tennessee and mine have been gorgeous recently, 2nd week of October. Tried a mix of six in a tall cattle trough and was so pleased with the different shapes and colors. Those in the ground have done well too. No issue with bugs and no special treatment except organic fertilizer. I’ll be digging up to save for next year and add some more. Thank you for showing us your gardens - they are truly beautiful and show the results of your passion.
It's my first year planting dahlias and I've had such a hard time with them. Surprisingly my Fleurel dinner plate dahlias bloomed first and they are absolutely gorgeous! I'm still waiting for American Dawn, Labyrinth, Maarn, Bacardi and Bishop of Llandaff to bloom. Thanks for the tour!
I have just discovered dahlias. I love love how you get when talking. I get sort of breathless too! Learning so much. Have my first coming. Only ones people didn't want I think lol but it doesn't matter to me😊
O my God, a huge beauty!!! You’re doing a fantastic job! Some times plants and flowers deceive us like people do but for sure you’ll keep your enthusiastic love for dalias. Thank you. I learn a lot from you. 🌸🌺🌼
JUST GORGEOUS!!! I'm still intimidated..so I wanna hear everything u have to say. The dinnerplates are gonna take me a while..the balls I'm not ready for but I think I need them...the one I already have on my list from your previous video is HS Flame. I love her & I cannot resist her. So she'll be my first..next year. Also..the Florida Weave is going GREAT for my GIANT sunflowers! Just yesterday I got the ladder out for the 1st time & they're having their best year! THANX SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING!!😍🙏🏻
Love ❤️ your videos, thanks so much for sharing your beautiful yard and your knowledge! We gardeners get giddy seeing these when its 17 below and waiting for growing season!!
Ya...This year we did not get much rain where our property is at...but watered well. At least the bulbs formed well for us. Hopefully it will be a better year next year. We got hit hard with japanese beetles here. And boy they hit some of the purple and pink ones pretty hard. Weird how that is. Thanks for the wonderful video! Very inspirational!
I loved this Dahlia video! Such a pleasure to watch, as if we were right there with you! Also thought it was educational! And the dahlias were almost as pretty as you that day! Thanks for the nice video!
Hi Erin, subscribed and love your video and as you can see, I'm a dahlia addict from my profile pic (Candy available here in Australia). Loved all your colours, looking forward to more videos and I'll be expanding my little garden to include a lot more ball style for this season 2021/22.
I’ve e been worried about you, Erin! Glad that you’re safe and thank you for the 25 minutes of peace and beauty on your dahlia tour. There is something fascinating about the form of the ball dahlias so I can see why you’re taken with them. I have had zero luck with dahlias but I am not going to give up!
Loved watching this video! Ours still haven't bloomed but I'm hoping they'll get blooms soon. I'll be watching again when we make our next dahlia order- so many beautiful varieties in your garden!
LOVE nothing else needed to be said. Well other than glad to see your ok and back. I will be getting some of these seeds next year for sure. Just stunning!!
Great video and I love your colour choices - probably because they are so similar to my own favourites with the apricot/pink/cream shades! Until this year I had only grown one dahlia - Cafe au Lait - but that plant sparked off a new passion. Oh dear, as if orchids weren't enough! I did go a bit mad this spring and then wondered where on earth to put them all, so they all went into pots and tubs. Penhill Watermelon turned out beautiful, but not exactly the colours I was expecting as it was deep orange centres shading to golden yellow, like fire; and Table Dancer's rich purple flowers with white ends turned out to be beautiful, but smaller, acid yellow/limey green near the centres fading to a very, very, pale pearly-pink-white flower. I have no idea what they actually are but if I could bottle them I would! I can't feel disappointed because they were lovely (and I'd actually changed my mind about getting Table Dancer). Your video explains a lot about what happened to my dahlias this year. Red spider mite on my Cafe au Lait; weather so hot, with no rain for months, and not enough hours in the day to water everything. I also made the mistake of putting Cafe au Lait in full sun - I won't be doing that again. Someone suggested I try Spartacus if I could get hold of it. Well, I found one, and although it's not usually my sort of colour (nor are yellow and orange) I love the stunning red and caramel flowers (not much caramel on mine but the red is a deep red velvet and just... Oooooh!). The first flower was over 10 inches across. I also love the gorgeous pink and cream fimbriated flowers of Nadia Ruth. Oh, in the Penhill series there are also Penhill Dark Monarch - I'm waiting for the flowers to open on mine (hopefully before the frost hits); Penhill Lemon Queen and Penhill Autumn Shade, that I know of. Islander and Labyrinth are both on my wish list but were sold out everywhere, so hopefully next year, and thanks to you Breakout is now also on the list. I really, really, need a bigger garden.
I totally understand your description of irregular watering and direct sun conditions....Yours obviously aren't "first year" dahlias, because they are huge plants and are absolutely gorgeous!! I need to dedicate garden space specifically for dahlias...they deserve it. Another UA-cam wiz on dahlias is The Small Garden Channel.
Thank you so much for your videos. This will be my 1st year planting dhalias and you have made the process less scary especially since you are in zone 5 as well as me. I'm here in Cleveland. If you ever have tubers you no longer want od love to pay for them.
It is SO WONDERFUL to see the actual dahlias WITH THEIR NAMES!! that we can only dream about from pictures in catalogues ....and wonder if they are true to colour! Thank u SO MUCH Erin. We so appreciate you. From zone 4b
I purchased my first set of Dahlia bulbs this year from Sam's Club. This channel is so informative! I hope mine end up looking amazing like yours. Planting them End of Feb in south Texas! :)
I plant mine after my last frost date, April 2. And because I live in the PNW I don’t water them in -it rains a lot. I have had so many flowers this year . We also had rain in August it gave everything powdery mildew, I had to spray. I also want to do a gradient! Love your videos ❤️
@@sharonallen805 I live in a very wet climate so I use something called Defender, it works for black spot on roses too. You mix it with water, it's a fungicide.
Erin, my little patch of dwarf Dahlias I started from seed got spider mites too!! It was a first for me. We were in the middle of wheat harvest so they got a little carried away. One plant I cut back pretty severe,, the others I left and have since sprayed twice with Eight from Bonide. Spraying from the underside up is sooo fun, but it has made a remarkable difference. They are bouncing back pretty good👍🏻👍🏻
OMGGGGGG!!!! How Beautiful is your Garden!!! I've never grown Dahlias but maybe, I'll try them next year!!! Yal YT'bers are making me spend all of my money every summer but I LOVEEEE the Results Afterwards!! I'm def. A better gardener after tuning in!! Thank you! I subbed btw!! 🌹
Oh my! What beautiful dahlias! I have never grown them before but have already ordered some for next year. I am a little jealous of your garden and also a little jealous of you wearing a jacket :)
WOW! So beautiful. So many of the ones you’ve grown I already ordered for next year... now I need to add a few more 😍. I’ve got some dahlia goals! Our dahlias were horrible this year. Super leggy, small leaves, spider mites, and leaf miners! Also, dry and hot where I live and I know that played a role in the problems too. We’ll try again next year!
I used to get Red Spider Mite on my Brugmansias when I was living in a subtropical city. The advice I got was to wet the leaves as often as possible & that is supposed to discourage them. It worked to reduce them & I believe it discourages them if you can start wetting foliage before they become a problem.
Your dahlias are gorgeous! I love dahlias all shapes and sizes also. I planted three varities this year and two of three are like yours probably 7 to 8 feet high. Another did not get very tall but I think I planted them to close together. Something is eating the leaves on mine also and I think it's probably more than just one type of insect. Thank you for the dahlia tour. I find the information you provide is always very helpful.
Just Wow!! So much beauty! I have been anxious for your dahlia tour. Thanks so much! I grew some for the first time this year thanks to your inspiration. I now have been bitten by the dahlia bug! Can't wait to order for next year.
Hello Erin. I got hooked into planting dahlias last year after seeing Myrtle’s Folly in one of your dahlia videos. Thank you for showing us the beauty of dahlias.
I love your dahlias! I’ve been growing orchids for years. This is the first year I’ve decided to grow dahlias for next spring 2022. I just put in my order. They should be hear in March 2022! I will keep watching you…. Lisa P 😁
Just love your beautiful dahlias, Erin! I started mine early in pots (per your video) and they have done really well this year. Except for all the earwigs 😠 I have to go out & check every flower 3 times a day & trap them with my jar of soapy water. Those beautiful blooms are worth it though. Great video!
Hello! I grew my first dahlias this year. HS KISS, American Dawn, Lilac Time, and Labyrinth. I’ve had a time. Labyrinth got frost bite on one of them(I bought 3 of each), then spider mites, then eventually it wouldn’t grow past 5 inches, so I dug it up and the tuber was rotted. All of them the leaves look bad like your labyrinth. Some better some worse. A lot of mottling on the leaves of all of them. I keep pulling off the bad leaves. American Dawn has bloomed the best. HS KISS is picking up. I had 5 blooms at once the other day. Lilac Time has a lot of buds but I’ve only had 1-2 blooms at a time. Labyrinth-the one I was most excited about-hasn’t bloomed at all. All 3 tubers have had problems-and I only have 2 left. One is drooping really bad since I staked it. The other has a couple of buds. I staked really late. Live and learn 😂. Anyway, since I suspect they all have had spider mites and probably other aphids, is it safe to keep the tubers? Or should I toss them. I almost decided to not do dahlias again, but then thought, I have put so much time in them. I suspect a lot of my problems are from not staking them properly. And I may plant them in more sun. They only get sun until about 1:00.
I got know "Labybrinth" from you and I am so happy to get them for this season in the last moment because it sold out in EU. Thanks so much for sharing the tour of your garden
This was my first year of having dahlias. You are right, they are absolutely gorgeous! I’m also going to try to overwinter them too. Don’t know the name, but it was red and white. I took copious notes on how you store them. Thanks 😊
OMG! Such beauty. My bulbs are about to be sent and I hope I have beauties like these by the time Summer is here in South Africa. I have made more notes of some you showed here......
I’m so jealous, I bought my first Dahlia after watching your videos, sad news I’m one of the people without a flowers 😫. We have had a very dry hot summer, so that said I look forward to next year. Thinking of planting in the ground as oppose to planting in a pot, the name of my dahlia is labyrinth. Love the garden tour of Dahlias 👍❤️😊
Excellent presentation... I just loved watching it... I had to do it twice... Never get enough... Mix in some other type for example collarette, waterlilly, anemone... I love your HS dahlias... I also love the bicolor ones... Especially crichton honey(hope I got the name right)... If you remember where you ordered them?!...thank you... You made my day!!!... Thank you once again...
I use something called End All and it works wonders for most pests. It helps a bit with tarnished plant bug also but not 100%. Still dealing with them a bit
Such stunning plants!!! I could look at them all day long... Thanks to you, I bought a lot of dahlias this spring, unfortunately only a few of them came up (not enough attention at the beginning? Maybe because I can only garden in containers?), but those that did, were amazing and I'll definitely plant more next year and maybe some will come up again for me (I won't store them, I'm in a hot zone). Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!! 😊
I'm so glad you have the Penthill Watermelon--I've been wanting to try it, but was unsure about size, etc. WOW--it is impressive. It will be added to my garden next year. So so lovely. Sorry about your Cafe Au Lait. I've had a LOT of mislabled items this year--though all in the vegetable garden. It happens, but so disappointing.
I’m in New Zealand and grew 5 dahlias last year. Omgosh I’m hooked. Have about 20 this year. I want them all😭😭😭

I bought dahlia labyrinth this year after watched your video. They are just amazing amzing amazing. Now it is my all time favourite dahlia. Thank you!
I plant mine after my last frost date, April 2. And because I live in the PNW I don’t water them in -it rains a lot. I have had so many flowers this year . We also had rain in August it gave everything powdery mildew, I had to spray. I also want to do a gradient! Love your videos ❤️
Semi-Pro what do you use for the powdered mildew, and how often?
@@sharonallen805 I live in a very wet climate so I use something called Defender, it works for black spot on roses too. You mix it with water, it's a fungicide.
Thank you semi pro!
They are bouncing back pretty good👍🏻👍🏻
Oh great to know!
What is the name of the watermelon one?
Wow I'm hooked! And that bouquet of Dahlias at the end --- I'm sold on their beauty! Thanks!
So great to see another video from you! Love, love those dahlias!
Wow. I loved this video--watched it twice--so never fear about talking about dahlia's too much :) Very inspirational. I hope to do dahlia's next year.
What a gem of a video. Such a great presentation.
They are beautiful. I did them for many years and then got tired. 🤣 You are inspiring me to come back to them next year.
Thank you for this. I love dahlia walk throughs, or review videos! I've ordered a lot of tubers for my first year, recently!
Amazing 🎭 performance in your garden & narrative! So informative, educational & mostly breathtaking🌺
I love the ball shape the best. Your yard is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing 🌸
I love how much you love these Dalias 💕 I just can't help but smile with you 😊♥️🤗
Thank you for this video! We are just planting tubers now in NZ so it’s so exciting to see them in bloom! I have many of the same! I am so excited!
A beautiful display of lots of dahlias!
Love, love, love the Jowey Mirella ball dahlias!!!
Such a beautiful cut flower arrangement!
What a great addition to have - ball dahlias. Love them all.
Hello Erin. I got hooked into planting dahlias last year after seeing Myrtle’s Folly in one of your dahlia videos. Thank you for showing us the beauty of dahlias.
Big beautiful twisty hill flower 🌸 love your garden🥰
I love your dahlias! I’ve been growing orchids for years. This is the first year I’ve decided to grow dahlias for next spring 2022. I just put in my order. They should be hear in March 2022! I will keep watching you…. Lisa P 😁
Beautiful dahlias, I tend to like the ball style the best as well.
You are the Dalia Queen!! They're so huge! 🌸🌻🌺
Thanks 😊
I've ordered a Creighton Honey from Swan Island Dahlias because you showed it in a tour and I fell for it.
So awesome!!!
My first time this year and they are looking amazing!!!! Roses and now Dahlias are my two favorites!!!
Thanks for the video! :)

Great video. I am new to Dalhias; just planted a pkg from Costco. I have big plans for next year! Your hydrangeas look great too!
Missed you Erin -beautiful flowers!
Thank you for sharing. Your dahlias are beautiful. They are my favorite flower. I only have 6, but am going to order some of yours for next year
They're all absolutely beautiful🌸
Neem oil for spider mites or lady bugs. You can also spray with mild organic soap and water spray in the early morning or late evening
They are amazing! I am very impressed...I will certainly be growing more next year.
Thank you for the video, your dahlias are absolutely gorgeous. I can really see how dahlias can lure you into a bulb addiction.
watching this and getting excited about the three dahlias I'll be growing this summer :)
Ohhh, please do a Seed Give-a-Way! :) Dahlia by seed is a bit of a several season effort, but so fun to see what comes out!
I just bought the colors strawberry ice and white perfection 😍 I'm in love I hope they grow beautifully 💗
