I recently read The Lunar Chronicles (like first half of 2023 and I'm reading All Stars Above) and I loved it, I was also pleasently surprised that the author didn't use the "not like other girls trope" considering what time it was written (like, Cinder isn't stereotypically femenine but it's more of not allowing herself to do so because how society treats cyborgs rather than feeling superior and she's still really supportive to the girls in the rampion crew). Also, the men in those books are top tier
I realized that in my recent reread too. As someone who always had a soft spot for "tomboy" characters it always irked me when they acted like they were "not like other girls". I resonated with their feelings of being an outsider and preferring non-traditional activities/style but not their hatred of femininity. I really enjoyed Cinder's character, her desire to be a normal girl but feeling too much like an outsider made me really endeared to her.

If you liked the Cinder series, read the author's standalone book Heartless if you havent already!!!! Literally my favorite book ever and it would be fascinating to hear your take on it, especially since its pure fantasy setting and has some similar tones as Ever After High (and we all know you have a lot of thoughts on that one lol). I love Alice in Wonderland to a probably obsessive degree and Heartless is such a wonderful book that recreates Wonderland with a truly loving attention to detail.

Yeah it has some cliches and bonkers moments and contrivances and weirdly done but okay prequel and short stories and epilogue book, but it has a good nostalgic place in my heart. Though the new character covers are pretty, I do like the minimalistic sorta simplicity of the originals. I have all of them, the ones with the original cover. The characters were pretty great and though the trope of chosen ones are done to death I do love this series still.
The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series of all time and Cinder is easily the best one out of them all (in my opinion) - I would love to see your take on the others too! Despite being written in the 2010s, his and Cinder's relationship, and the book as a whole, still absolutely hold up today and I love rereading this story because it's just as good every time. It's full of cliches and tropes, but the characters and story are so fun that I don't care! Cinder could not possibly be any more me. It’s me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. Why anyone would try to argue that Cinder is not me is beyond me. If you held two pictures of me and Cinder side by side, you’d see no difference. I can safely look at Cinder every day and say, “Yup, she’s me.” I can practically see Cinderwhenever I look at myself in the mirror. I go outside, and people stop me from commenting on how similar I look and act as Cinder is. I chuckle softly as I’m assured every day Cinder is me in every way. I can smile each time I get out of bed each morning, knowing that I’ve found my identity with Cinder and I know my place in this world. It’s amusing how similar she is to me; it’s almost like identical twins. When I first saw Cinder, I had an existential crisis. What if Cinder was the real me and I was the fictional being? What if she actually became aware of my existence? Did she have the ability to become self-aware?"
So much of Amanda's channel can be summed up by "omg I loved this series in middle school and I completely forgot that it existed. This unhinged recap is making me want to reread it again as an adult" and I'm so here for it
Omg Lunar Chronicles! I am not ashamed to say that I did actually spend money buying the only-on-e-book choose-your-own-adventure cross-over that she wrote where Cinder meets characters from her other series as she tried to get ready for her wedding.

This is prolly one of my fave bookseries ever, they also have a graphic novel line that explores Iko after the storyline, I've only read the first one but it's rlly good!!
I’ve seen this series in Chapters (🇨🇦) and other book stores but never read it. Thank you for making this before I decide to hyper-focus on this and make it my whole identity 🤪🥰

i definitely remember trying to read this series in like 6th grade and being too impatient to actually comprehend the plot. the way you told it makes it sound incredible and now i feel like i have to hunt the books down to read for myself lol
Now I have to go read Scarlet! Thank you for the excuse! Also I was really into these books when they were being published and Marissa Meyer went on tour, I got all my books autographed. But also my teacher at the time, who introduced me to the series asked Marissa how she intended for Iko’s name to be pronounced and she said that ee-ko was right. My teacher asked because she often read the books aloud to her class and wanted to ensure she was pronouncing it correctly. So you are saying Iko’s name right, however I believe Adri’s name is pronounced A- (as in ape) dree (like free).
I no joke have two different book sets of this series, the special edition of cinder, and one of those book sets is entirely tabbed. I am devoted to this series, and Marisa’s other series Renegades
One thing I love about the lunar chronicles is how everybody was about the action like everybody was so ruthless so quick and a lot of books, you’ll have the main character or whatever be passive in the first book, and then the second book is when they gain agency and tricks in all of that, but in the lunar chronicles cinder, was ready to end the entire book series in the first book by shooting Levanna like she was with the action the second she had control of her body. She was like you know what I will shoot you and I have to give her flowers for that.
I think it would work infinitely better as an animated film, like I love these books, and a lot of the things in this book would look GORGEOUS in an animated film. Please continue this! I'd love your thoughts on the rest of the books. Winter is my favorite, even if it is a chunky book. I also like how each book was interspersed with fairytale quotes.
Yes exactly, I see the world so much more fleshed out if it's animated. Even as I read it so many years ago I imagined the characters as if they were illustrated in my head.
Every time you post I'm happier I'm subscribed. P.S i totally understand you wanting to be Cinder, i always wanted to be Winter😭. Even though she was supposed to be the most beautiful girl in the world even without her glamor. (My younger self was too confident for my own good)😂
The Lunar Chronicles got me through high school and are still oneof my favorite book series to this day I was obsessed with Cress she was my favorite girly out of all of the main girlies I even read Fairless(the prequel) and the Wires and Nerve(the grafic novels). Anddddd I really really loved the fact that some of the names are Hebrew (like Ze'ev means wolf and Levana in another name for the moon) Please review all of the books
Pronouncing it "iko" makes sense, it's Asian, but also in any language other than English lol. If it were "eyeko" it would be "aiko" ... Also, I never knew much about these books and haven't read them... but I'm definitely going to now!

I loved this book series SO MUCH that I've read it 7 times including the comic books that take place afterwards, the prequel about Queen Levana, and the mini stories book It's probably been a year or two since I've last read it but it'll always have a special place in my heart 😌 You should definitely recap the rest of the series and maybe the comics too, they were really fun

I am only two minutes in and this is already my favorite video ever, the energy is exactly what i needed
Love your Cinder cosplay!! Please do the rest of the series!! It’s my absolute favorite!! 😁😁😁
Gotta do the rest of the series girl
This is prolly one of my fave bookseries ever, they also have a graphic novel line that explores Iko after the storyline, I've only read the first one but it's rlly good!!
I’ve seen this series in Chapters (🇨🇦) and other book stores but never read it. Thank you for making this before I decide to hyper-focus on this and make it my whole identity 🤪🥰
wait…chapters the interactive novel app?
@@hxrleydxrling9662 uhhh they have an app I think but it’s a book store chain in Ontario, Canada. I believe they’re all over Canada though… Indigo by Chapters is a purple store which is their sister store. While chapters is a red store.
i definitely remember trying to read this series in like 6th grade and being too impatient to actually comprehend the plot. the way you told it makes it sound incredible and now i feel like i have to hunt the books down to read for myself lol
So you are saying Iko’s name right, however I believe Adri’s name is pronounced A- (as in ape) dree (like free).
ugh love this
I LOVED this series in middle school, and I still have the last renegades book. I love Ms.Myers
YAAASSSS these books have a chokehold on my life, please do the rest of the books!!
Now I want to reread the Lunar Chronicles for the 15th time
Please do Scarlet, Cress and Winter! I love the Lunar Chronicles!
I love these book recaps! Please do all the books!❤
I no joke have two different book sets of this series, the special edition of cinder, and one of those book sets is entirely tabbed. I am devoted to this series, and Marisa’s other series Renegades
GIRL you better do a recap of the rest of the series 💀
@@memorian8472 I envision this entire series as an 80s shoujo anime
Something about the way you explain books is so satisfying so glad i found your channel
please do the next ones, you got me excited for the lunar series all over again. So goooood
Yes yes please do the other books!!! This is my favorite book series I have ever read, and these videos make me SO happy
Every time you post I'm happier I'm subscribed.
P.S i totally understand you wanting to be Cinder, i always wanted to be Winter😭. Even though she was supposed to be the most beautiful girl in the world even without her glamor. (My younger self was too confident for my own good)😂
The Lunar Chronicles got me through high school and are still oneof my favorite book series to this day
I was obsessed with Cress she was my favorite girly out of all of the main girlies
I even read Fairless(the prequel) and the Wires and Nerve(the grafic novels).
Anddddd I really really loved the fact that some of the names are Hebrew (like Ze'ev means wolf and Levana in another name for the moon)
Please review all of the books
I started reading Cinder at the beginning of COVID, and it was weird reading about a pandemic during the mist of an actual pandemic
Pronouncing it "iko" makes sense, it's Asian, but also in any language other than English lol. If it were "eyeko" it would be "aiko" ...
Also, I never knew much about these books and haven't read them... but I'm definitely going to now!
commenting before even watching: this has been my favorite series for over a decade. I have almost every book by Marissa Meyer and back when Fairest was released, I dressed up as Cinder for a signing event 💛
omg this is like my favourite book series, i feel like no one knows about it, i want a live adaption so bad but a good one 😭😭 i'm literally doing media and film production beccause i am so delulu that i believe one day i can make the adaption ahaha
Shoulder length hair I can cut it. Often wears messy ponytails. That can be arranged. I'm dying!
omg. Please recap the next because I can’t remember the details and I want to pick back up on reading this series hahaha
I've been having a blast rereading all of my old favorites, and honestly, these books slap so hard. I, too, feel spirituality connected to our girl Cinder
YESSSSS omgg. I had every last book lined up on my dresser throughout the last 2 years of high school
I loved this book series SO MUCH that I've read it 7 times including the comic books that take place afterwards, the prequel about Queen Levana, and the mini stories book
It's probably been a year or two since I've last read it but it'll always have a special place in my heart 😌
You should definitely recap the rest of the series and maybe the comics too, they were really fun
YES TYSMMM FOR THISSSSSSS HAVE READ ALLL THE BOOKSSSSSSSS
My dream movie adaptation is Three Dark Crowns. Of course provided I’m also the director, cast director, and actress. 🤣😉
Also I’ve also called Iko “Eeko!”
When you put that Cinder costume on I was shook!!! You look exactly how I imagined her. 🌙💙
I loveee the book Cinder!! These videos are always so fun too watch and entertaining though even if I’ve already read the book!! This is totally unrelated but I ADORE YOUR BIBBLE POSTER #ALLHAILBIBBLE

you actually look a lot like how i imagined cinder to look when i read the lunar chronicles!!
The lunar chronicles series has a chokehold on me i reread scarlet repeatedly
Omggggggggggggggggg Finally someone else knows about The Lunar Chronicles. It's one of my absolute fave book series with it's futuristic ,action-packed ,mature and dark retelling of these famous fairytales
TLC IS MY FAVORITE BOOK SERIES EVER AND I AM SO HAPPY FOR THIS VIDEO
The way I am reliving my teenage years thru these videos. PLEASE do the rest of the series!!!
BANGER SERIES. it's so underrated.
Commenting before watching: YES I'M SO EXCITED!!! I feel like these books blew the hell up and then everyone forgot they existed, all within like a six-month span.
I absolutely ADORE the fact that canonically Marissa Meyers said that emperor Kaito looks like Kai from the K-pop group EXO!
Literally one of my favorite series ever
FUCK YES, YES, YES THE LUNER CHRONICLES I FUCKING LOVE THIS💖💖💖💖
OMG I LOVE THESE BOOKS AND NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THEM. i also could talk about the new and old covers and the influence of the twilight covers on YA book design.
I love this series, my friends love this series, we read it at the same time and talked about it for countless hours... its just so good!!
