I’m in so much pain that modern romance novels are all just p*rn, this is actually so sad and not necessary for people to believe people have feelings for each other. Actual garbage books. We need better standards than this 😭
if they marketed it as just straight erotica rather than romance, i’d have less of an issue. my problem isn’t the smut (as a fanfic connoisseur), it’s the fact that it’s one of the ONLY selling points for these modern romance books. ROMANCE IS MORE THAN SEX!!!!
@@wooogie672 true, people need to be more honest these days. I’m not huge on erotica being so mainstream but if it is then they should at least label it properly so that I don’t end up in the middle of a f*ck fest every time I pick out a popular new novel
Deadas$. I’m writing a romance novel and I might put ONE intimate scene. MAYBE. I’m focused more on their chemistry and getting to know each other. That’s why I kinda like Sarah Adams cause a lot of her stuff doesn’t have smut
I watched this first thing in the morning but I want to elaborate that romance novels are bad because no one writes character chemistry anymore. Only physical attraction. They’re like “is this romance?” Then write p*rn. No wonder so many of them depict unhealthy or abusive relationships, they have no concept of what relationships are
i can imagine the tiktok girlies being obsessed with the fact that de didnt take advantage of her while she's drunk (as if that isnt literally the BARE MINIMUM)
i started reading this book because figure skating is one of my Special Interests and let me tell you... the actual figure skating aspect of this book is so so so badly done. i'm only 30% through right now and i've been compiling a list of shit hannah grace got wrong as i've been reading, and it no longer fits in one (1) screenshot. i know a lot of ao3/tumblr fanfiction writers do a shit ton of research for their fics, so why can't this wattp⎯ formerly independently published author do the same? 😭
I would definitely be more inclined to read traditional romance books if they weren’t all about toxicity and sex. I love romance in media and a good romance makes my heart warm and all that but romance books in general are always a miss so I’ve learned to just stay away from them. Most if not all are rehashed stories with slightly tweaked names and plot points. It makes me a little angry.
'Come to the party' he says, she replies 'no B', and then she shows up at the party later. 🤣 This feels so typical now in romance novels. It's so immature, which I guess is true for some college students. But when you're an athlete, the standard is so different because there are usually scholarships involved.
lol "the hot stick thing" oh my god. so glad I never picked this one up. I've been so inundated with disappointing romance and this one might have killed me.
39:43 she says she’s ok with him being protective because he cares, and alludes to the fact that she wouldn’t be otherwise because some women think men are protective because they believe women to be weak and fragile, so they take it as an insult. Which is ridiculous and kind of telling on themselves that they’re insecure
I was so disappointed in this book. There are some books w no plot that i like a lot and enjoy for what they are but i absolutely could not stand either of these MCs especially the main girl and it just made this book feel WAY too long bc i just didn’t care abt anyone
The thing is-romance movies are ROMANTIC. The sex is toned down& also unpopular opinion: it’s way easier to show explicit scenes on screen that are not cringy, than writing them. I also like RomComs but rarely read nice Romance.
When youi asked at the end if we remembered anything you told us and my mind was honestly totally blank and the only thing I could remember what the partner's name...
"idk who farted on my pillow... Maybe my cat." Made me laugh so hard. You're really funny, Sophie. I always have a huge smile on my face when I'm listening to your videos.
You are right about the grammar..."In exchange for..." It is passive voice bc the subject "me" is being acted upon "given something." It sb something like "Yesterday I met w/...who gave me..."
lol i liked this book but i couldn’t tell you why, when I watch this i realise it has no plot. maybe it’s because i was heavily pregnant while reading and very emotional 😂
14:33 Oh i watched it when it was coming out to! There was supposed to be a movie was in works for years but it was droped this year for some reason which fucking sucks
Mam wrażenie że ta książka to p🌽rn wersja Go Figure, Youngblood i The Cutting Edge w jednym. I pozbawiona jakiegokolwiek aspektu sportowego innego niż współżycie intymne i napoje wyslokowe
oh this book is so annoying. the whole figure skater/hockey player was sooo popular in slash fiction and it works so well in that context but when it's just straight people? boring as hell, i'm sorry straight people
I’m heteromantic ace (basically straight I suppose 💀) and I completely agree, shit’s boring asf and the way they turned it into literal p 🌽 is disgusting.
i mean elena ferrante is an anonymous author. it's more common than you think lol. i don't see the problem with it. i understand it may contextualize the book for u, but some authors prefer their work to stand for itself.
also, while i didn't love the book, i also feel like this is a very nitpick-y video. like who cares if their names r Anastasia and Aaron that is such an arbitrary "rule."
The audiobook is MUCH better from what it sounds like vs readings it😂 besides the sex scenes of course the narrators make it a bit LESS cringy than reading a romance, for me anyways

Yes!
I’m thinking about abandoning most of the modern romance drama over this. I’m tired.

LITERALLY!!!!
If they wrote straight porn I would respect them
have you read 'the man for me' - marzy opal ? i think the book describes them as individuals soo well + their chemistry.
@@floor8461 no, but thanks for the recommendation!
Anastasia is just a name but I'll be damned if I don't think about 50 shades with that name all the time
i can imagine the tiktok girlies being obsessed with the fact that de didnt take advantage of her while she's drunk (as if that isnt literally the BARE MINIMUM)
Such a gentleman 😆😆😆
Right??? The bar is not just on, it's under the floor, I'm scared for these women
i remember seeing some tiktok where they were saying how cute he was when (and i think how) he asked for consent 💀
Omg what
Is the standards in room with us
why does every modern romance book have the quality of a hallmark movie?
Or even worse, a 🌽hub video.

SAME WITH THE HOCKEY STUFF!!! My special interest was hockey when i started reading this and omg it’s insane 😭
i cant stop myself from being frustrated books written like wattpad fanfic get this popular

i felt a chill every time you said "my folds". can't even imagine what it's like to read it in context 🤢
I find that a lot of things and phrases are better in words than they are to say out loud hahaha

about the "sex smell" 😂 it's real. You can smell something was happening if its a tiny close space like a car xD
Yuri on Ice really made history when it aired.
14:28 i, too, watched yuuri on ice as it was airing. what a time, truly…..
I love when authors don’t show their face haha i love the mystery
the seratonin boost i get when i think about the yuri on ice opening song is UNMATCHED
lol "the hot stick thing" oh my god. so glad I never picked this one up. I've been so inundated with disappointing romance and this one might have killed me.
i think romance books shouldn't be this long. Like you can easly get bored

EXACTLY !!! every single character is just the most insufferable person I have had the misfortune of getting to know

The yuri on ice reference😂 obsession was real

girl i'm still waiting for the day ice adolescence (that yoi movie) gets an update 😭 the website has said "announcement soon" for at least 6 years
Lmaooo i instantly knew you were talking about yuri on ice
I knew you were going to say Yuri on Ice.... My friend in high school was an ice skater and loved it.
you should read kasie west. she writes innocent teen romances with strong characters and without toxicity.
Omg, Emily Henry is rly rly good at writing character chemistry. At least in my 18 yr old brain. And her books are easily always 5 stars for me 💜💜
You should give queer romance a chance! I found them to be more plot focused!
I was 11 years old and thought it would be such a cute romance novel book but what the heck is p*rn 😢
yessss do bookmas!!!!!
imagine being an uber driver and some people are doing unholy carnal acts in the backseat
STILL WAITING FOR THE YOI MOVIE 😭😭😭😭😭

eleanor and park is a romance novel that i really love if anyone is looking for a good one
Man Im just so tired, I would like to read something that doesnt have fucking sex!
The books are being damaged with the hookup culture.

This specific book had like no plot and the characters were so unlovable from start to end. Just to write a bit of P**n 😭
