Yeah, that was a nice refreshing change for movies. I like how the director only used the other woman in this film to juxtapose the two women in his life. To show the male protagonist this is who you “want” to be, but this is who you are.

This film holds a special place in my heart. It was the last movie I ever watched with my dad. We went to the theater to see it and had a great time. He was amazed at the special effects. He didn’t stop the grind very often to see new films so it was a rare treat to catch a new movie with him. He died about 2 weeks after we saw it. I watch this every time it’s on because it brings me back to that memory.

I can tell you from experience, that a tornado CAN growl at you. Several years ago a very small, something like an F-0 tornado hit my town. I was at my office on the 2nd floor of the building. A coworker and I were standing and looking outside watching the pounding rain. We had no idea a tornado was forming until it started to rain sideways and we literally heard the storm growl at us. It sounded just like a pissed off animal. The tornado peeled the roof off the building across the street and that roof debris ended up hitting the building I was in. It did a lot of damage to town and you could easily follow it's path just from the destruction it left. It was one of the scariest things I have ever lived through, and this was barely considered a tornado. I cannot image living through a F-5.

This movie inspired an entire generation of storm chasers. Living here in Oklahoma, you'll see them around during the spring, when supercells really get to firing up. The largest tornado EVER recorded was just west of OKC, in El Reno. It was an EF-5 and measured 2.5 miles across. I've done a bit of storm chasing myself, and your adrenaline really gets pumping as you're going towards it and everyone else is trying to get out of the way. There's a museum dedicated to this movie in the town of Wakita, OK. It's off the beaten path, but it's worth the trip. There's talk of a sequel to Twister in the works. One of the things they say about living in Tornado Alley is when the sky looks the color of sea foam green, keep your eyes up and ears open.

technically El Reno tornado is classified only as EF3, due to it passing over mostly rural area and therefore the damage did not added up to EF% category, but yeah, it was pretty much huge enough to be in highest category. Last time I tried to get my sights on a tornado, I stepped out side the house, one foot in, another out (In case I needed to run). Then a huge gust went through the house from the back to the front of the house....and slammed the door on my fingers, blew them open at the nail bed and then locked. I was in a pretty famous tornado when I was 4 in Edmonton Alberta, Canada in summer of 1987. They called it Black Friday. We rarely get tornados but that one was something I’ll never forget.
I was walking home with my mom from the local mall, she was in an electric wheelchair at the time which made the entire situation that more precarious. The day was warm and sunny, and probably within 5 minutes the hail balls started and the sky turned green…all we could do was hurry and hide under the porch way of a church. Luckily the worst avoided us, all we got were some bruises from the hail, and yeah, I was scared so I remember telling my mom that I was going to pee my pants- and I did 🤣 which was super unfortunate because she was holding me at the time. Looking back we were both lucky to survive that day- not everyone did. I can’t help but think of it every time I see this movie.

This movie still gets a lot wrong, but the attention to detail they did give it is amazing. For example, Phillip Seymore Hoffman's character wears a Oklahoma University hat the entire movie. OU is widely considered to have the best meteorology program in the country partly due to its proximity to the National Weather Service headquarters which sends out weather alerts across the entire country. Little details like that puts this movie easily in my top 10 of all time.

Me and my mom was in a tornado on Palm Sunday back in 1994. Everything from that day is etched in my memory. The stillness of everything a few seconds before it hit. The quietness except for the constant rumble. The air was hot and green. The darkness. I still have PTSD to this day. It’s nowhere as bad as it used to be but I still get nervous when it storms.

Oklahoma, May 31st 2013 the El Reno tornado, killed one of my favorite Storm chasers. Timothy Michael Samaras, he was an American engineer and storm chaser who also known to invent his instruments to collect data. Another Storm chaser I like to watch is Pecos Hank. He has some beautiful tornado photos and films and also lightning phenomena. You should react to him, he's amazing.

Joe was obsessed with tornadoes because of her childhood trauma. She had turned it into a positive by trying to find the answer to an early warning system. (The “theme song” you mentioned during the first tornado was a Deep Purple song. Also, one of the storm chasers played the journalist in the movie, “Saving Private Ryan”.)

I've never been through a Tornado watch when one is actively on the ground (if I've got those two mixed up - warning/watch - I apologized.) The green sky was enough for me. I'm in Utah, so we're not known for tornadoes. Although technically we do average 3 a year. My oldest daughter has always been fascinated with weather. In kindergarten she got a book set about weather. One was all about tornadoes. We had a storm one day. Hubby and her were out in the garage watching the rain fall. Suddenly she starts getting upset. Daddy, Daddy! We need to go inside! The Sky is turning Green! We're gonna get a tornado! We didn't get one that day. We had always thought and heard that where we were, with being surrounded by mountains. That we wouldn't get tornadoes. The month before she was born we found out that was wrong. We had one touch down in the middle of the valley, then skim its way up the base of the mountain right by the hospital she was born in the next month. 22 years later we still can't even think about visiting my sister in Texas.

Then a few years later, Specifically May 3rd, 1999 I distinctively remembered being in the path of the F5 tornado that hit Oklahoma City and neighboring areas. I thought we were all going to die. We didn't have a basement, so I remember my dad pulling all of our mattresses and covering us in our bathroom's bathtub in the middle of our house. our roof lifted off and I remember Hail and debris hitting everywhere around us. Its a miracle it went back to the sky before it was completely on top of us. The destruction was insane. I remember seeing dead/ injured people out on the ground. pretty traumatizing as a kid

The building with the knives was the slaughterhouse. As a farmer, some are butchers too and cut up their meats to sell it. The other building where they were tied up was the pump house, where water is sucked up from the ground (a well-type that distributes water to the main house and other places). Such fun watching Twister with you two!! I grew up in north-central Oklahoma about 12 miles east of the town of Fairfax, where some of the opening was filmed, and experienced my share of tornados. One time we lost most of the shingles off our house, the windows were blown in and a 1,000-gallon water tank departed for somewhere up north never to be seen again. Spent my time in a storm cellar "fraidy-hole." The opening scenes were in Fairfax and nearby Ralston; local guys worked as hands moving the cattle around and doing some light labor. They said Bill Paxton was a great guy who hung out with them when not working, as did a lot of the other guys. And Helen Hunt was stuck up and wouldn't acknowledge them but headed straight to her trailer when not in a scene. RIP to Bill and Philip. The National Weather Center Research Facility in on the University of Oklahoma south campus, so many meteorology students study there. It seems a natural magnet for storm chasers. Wakita Oklahoma is the actual small town used for filming. The sets really did make it look like a major part of the town was destroyed, although a hailstorm had already given it a lot of debris even before filming. And RIP to the actual storm chasers who have been killed doing this work.

My sister lived in Wakita for years. The parts of the movie with Meg were filmed in town. The house is still there and is a museum for the movie. I went to school at Oklahoma University where they teach meteorology. The storm chasers are really like this. They get so excited when the weather is unstable. I’ve lived in Oklahoma for over 30 years. We have some of the best weather coverage in the country. When there is weather like this, all the stations have total coverage (all other shows are interrupted). There are even tornado drinking games and tornado bingo. Most Oklahomans can identify wall clouds, hook echos, circulation, and other severe weather terms. This movie was a big deal when it was being filmed because several of our local meteorologists were in the film.

last comment i swear. One time we had a tornado come through directly at us, my wife and I lived in a third story apartment. We saw the weather alerts and heard the sirens and felt the building shake and you can feel the pressure change....sometimes your ears pop as if in a plane. So we grabbed our new born son and ran into the closet. The power went out and we ducked down and then it came on again for a split second just for me to glance up and see all our guns, arrows, camping knives sitting loose on the shelves inside the closet. I said...wait...wrong closet. We had to run to the other one with all the clothes and soft stuff. Our cars got hurt a bit a few trees fell but we were ok. Tornados are no joke, but in my life time ive survived quite a few. Tragic when you find out that someone lost their life in one. Like the one on Christmas Day about 6 years ago. I had left my moms house after dinner and the weather was getting iffy. We got home and turned on the TV and saw the weather report on every channel. One radar image was zoomed down close to see the street names and i saw my mom's street name on there. I called her and she said they were under the stairs and i called my sister, who lived about 10 minutes away and she answered. I said " hey you go check on mom when this all passes over okay?" She said " im under the stairs with her now!" "i thought you left?" Wheres Nathan? " "here with us!" I jsut about lost my whole family in that storm. But instead it took 6 people's lives who were driving on a major highway interchange. I 30 and 190 (GB) They were blown of the tall bridge and slammed into the highway below. For years you could see the scar it left in that area. Now guess what it is. An RV and trailer sales lot. I guess they figured it has been pre-disastered .....
