Fun fact: In the first scene with Aunt Bethany as they were walking her in, the camera had a slight shake to it because there was a minor earthquake and they didn't reshoot the scene.
This one and the first Vacation movie are the best ones of the series. Even more impressive is the fact the Chevy Chase did almost all of his own stunts. And when he goes into the rant about his boss, where he is using all those off the wall insults, the director knew Chevy was going ad lib that part, so he told the rest of the cast to each think up an insult and write it on a card. Then, while all of their backs are to the camera and Chevy goes into his rant, they held up their cards, challenging him to use their words in the rant. And he did it in one take.
In a outtake, santa and the reindeer comes crashing back down on the next door neighbors!
I think he did his own on snl too
He broke his finger or one of his toes when he beat up the Santa Claus and kicked the reindeer out on his front lawn.
They were stuck to the inside of the doorway around him, not the crew. That's why he goes into that room to do the rant.
I liked European Vacation.

Ellen should get a Sainthood for the patience she has with Clark. She saves the day every time there is some kind of emergency(usually caused by him) and handles even the most ridiculous rage outburst he has. The woman is a miracle of acceptance!
The first time I saw this movie, I was laughing so hard, I couldn't breath.

Well, Clark did ask, out loud, for his boss to be here at Christmas, all wrapped up in a bow, so he could give him a piece of his mind. And for once, Eddie came through and gave Clark exactly the present he asked for. 🤣
And Eddie took “whose heart is bigger than his brain” as a compliment. Honestly, if someone said it about me, I would, too.
The elder Aunt was played by Mae Questel. Her final film role. In the 1930's she voiced Betty Boop, and Olive Oil cartoons.
A year earlier she voiced Betty Boop a final time in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
This was my dad and I's favorite Christmas movie we watched every year before he passed. Always great to see others enjoy it.

This is my favorite Christmas movie ever. I’ve watched it every year since I was a kid in the 80’s. It’s the best one by far. Eddie is the best. Aunt Bethany and her husband are also awesome. This movie is so damn funny. I’m glad that y’all are watching it
I have seen this movie between 75-80 times since I was a kid. I haven't laughed as much as I did watching it with you guys in years.

National Lampoon was started by Harvard graduates in 1969 as a monthly parody magazine. It is now a film franchise with a dozen movies including Van Wilder and the Griswold saga. The "Vacation" series are Vacation going to Wally World (Disneyland) [1983], European Vacation [1985], Christmas Vacation [1989], Vegas Vacation [1997], Christmas Vacation 2 (skip this one) [2003] and Vacation [2015] which follows Clark's son Rusty and his family.
John Hughes has his imprint on this and Chicago.
For anyone who wants to see how National Lampoon got it's start I strongly suggest the movie "A Futile and Stupid Gesture". It's on Netflix and it's great.
This movie became an instant Christmas classic the minute it came out! No question!
This is a classic! Everything that can go wrong during Christmas does in this movie! Been watching it every year for a long time now and Eddie is still the best character with the best lines! Favorite is when he's talking about the metal plate in his head and how he use to wet himself every time the wife would turn the microwave on.. too funny!!!
I used to watch this and "A Christmas Story" from 1983 every year with my family. Now I've moved both movies to my wife's family traditions as well. Good, fun, stupid humor to keep your life chill during a stressful time of year.

I’m so happy y’all did this reaction! This movie has been a tradition in my family since I was a kid. It’s such a part of us that I have 2 hallmark ornaments of the station wagon and tree that plays the theme song, the moose mug that plays lines with Clark and Eddie, I got my brother a shirt that has Eddie in the style of Elmer Fudd that says “Shitter’s Full”, and I got my dad a set of 4 moose mugs years ago. I also have 2 memes of Clark’s crazy rants, lol.
I try to still watch it every year on Christmas Eve, along with Die Hard. Lol. We’re going to my parents’ house this year, so I’m sure we will.
The moose mugs I'm pretty sure are a throwback to the first movie. Marty Moose.

I felt so dumb. It didn't occur to me for a long time that it was ice that flew through the neighbor's window. I thought it was a piece of the gutter. It explains why everything was wet when they were checking the damage, and why - duh - there was no gutter piece. Again, not the brightest here. Anyway, great reaction. 👍

This movie is a tradition for us to watch every Christmas season. I think what makes this movie special is the fact you don't see Christmas morning. The ending was perfect in saying you got everything you need right here friends and family and a damn good story to tell. I'm sure the kids had stuff to open on Christmas even after some of the presents burned but it's not about that

I absolutely love this movie. I remember seeing it in the theater with my family waaaay back in the day over Christmas break. It’s absolutely hilarious. Even better than the original Vacation, which is a comedy classic. This film, along with A Christmas Story are my two all time favorite Christmas movies. Great reaction video as usual.
This and Bad Santa are my favorite Christmas movies. But Christmas Vacation is still my all time favorite. I seen it in the theater and have watched it every year since. It’s like a tradition in our family. We get together and watch it before we eat and we start eating while it’s playing. It never gets old even though I’ve seen it every Christmas since 1989, 33 years that’s crazy!!!

My husband and I watch this and the Peanuts Christmas special every year. It's just not the holidays without laughing our way through this one, though.
The neighbors stereo was a Bang & Olufsen. In the 80s it was VERY Top Shelf and expensive. They are still being made. The neighbor Margo, is played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus known for playing Elaine in "Seinfeld".

I always get a bit teary eyed every time I hear ray charles start up and Clark is watching his home videos in the attic alone. And you know, it’s funny to say, but it makes me feel really good at the end when he’s alone in his yard and the last thing we see him do is petting the dog…I don’t know why but I just love that!

Another cool thing about this movie is about the elderly Aunt Bethany. The actress that played her is/was the voice of Betty Boop, from the old Betty Boop cartoons.
Thank you so much for watching this film. It's my favorite Christmas film and Chevy Chase and especially Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie are hilarious. Two other hilarious Christmas movies are "A Christmas Story" and "Scrooged" with Bill Murray in one of his best performances. "A Muppet Christmas Carol" with Michael Caine playing Mr. Scrooge is really good also. Merry Christmas Asia and BJ!!! You guys are great!!!

Always loved the use of Ray Charles's Spirit of Christmas song in this movie. I can't believe you don't hear that song more often around the holidays, which really puts Christmas into perspective and what it is truly about. Classic scene from a classic movie.

37:51 I just wanted to say that My family watches this movie every Thanksgiving then we start decorating for Christmas, I guess we have seen this movie 50 times if not more. It always puts us in the Christmas spirit. I seriously love it. And then After putting up the tree and trimming it out we watch The Grinch with Jim Carrey..to finish the night off. But I have to say watching it again with first time viewers , it brought back every bit of the fun and laughter. Thank you.. I know its after Christmas but.. Legit this is the first Christmas movie we watch as a family EVERY. YEAR. It just sets our season up right. Still funny and the jokes are hilarious.
Some people near us, a few years ago at Christmas, put an RV out in their driveway with a "Cousin Eddie" mannequin and a long hose, holding a sign that said "Shi***er's Full". It was hilarious. 😂

I’ve watched this every year for over 20 years multiple times during December. The thing about this movie is every time you watch it you’ll catch something new. Chevy Chase’s facial expressions are comedy by themselves

Along with "A Christmas Story" this is one of my favorites.
The building Clark destroyed flying downhill on the snow disk was not a bathroom. It was an ice fishing shanty. Speaking of ice fishing shanties, y'all would get a kick out of Grumpy Old Men and the sequel Grumpier Old Men. Stick through the end credits if you watch.

This is my favorite Christmas movie!! I love how the door bell rings when the in-laws come. Like doomsday. Chevy Chase was always great at physical comedy. My son gave me a T-shirt a few years ago that says "the shitter was full!" I wear it every year now. After all the problems, Clark is still happy. I would've sent everyone home! I think Aunt Bethany stole the show. PLAY BALL! This came out in 1989 & we watch it several times every year with kids & grandkids & now great grandkids & we laugh our asses off each time. This is a tradition in Norway to watch this movie on the 23’d, 23’d and 24th are the most important days of christmas over here. Its a tradition that tv channels show this movie every 23’d of december, dont know why but we follow it as always. Love it alot, thanks for the reaction😄

Another really funny Christmas movie is "Scrooged" starring Bill Murray. Definitely a Christmas must watch.
Every Christmas eve we have a certain set movies playing in the background from the time we get up till bedtime Die Hard, A Muppet Christmas Carol (for the kids), A Christmas Story, This Movie (X-mas Vacation), the 1971 musical version of Scrooge, then finally Scrooged. This year we're adding Spirited, others come and go but that's the main list.

This movie was my grandpa's favorite Christmas movie, so growing up we would watch it every single Christmas Eve as a family. It's one of the best ever made. Wow adding a beard can change a man's look. If Bj wasn't talking I'd swear another man was in his seat. This movie is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Is my favorite national lampoon's movie. The only ones who reprise their roles are. Mom,Dad,Aunt and Uncle. What's confusing is in the first two NL movies Rusty was the older brother. In this movie Audrey is the oldest. When you have a chainsaw in your hands you can talk to anyone however you want.
