YES!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MOVIES! Before Jim Carrey was cast as Stanley Ipkiss, John Ritter, Robin Williams, Matthew Broderick, Keanu Reeves, Steve Martin, Mike Myers, Martin Short and Rick Moranis were considered. Rupert Everett, Willem Dafoe, Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper and Robert DeNiro were almost cast as the villain. John Heard, Warren Beatty, Pierce Brosnan, Richard Gere, and Tim Allen were considered for Lt. Kellaway. Vanessa Williams, Tia Carrere, Vanessa Angel, Anna Nicole Smith, and Kristy Swanson were considered for Tina Carlyle
12:00 In the comic book, Stanley removed their skulls and replaced them with the mufflers. The comic took-place in a more gritty and realistic world and was much, much darker: Stanley goes back to a mean gradeschool teacher and kills her in front of her students. Much, much darker. In that story Stanley Ipkiss is a psycho and he gets killed because of his cruel behavior, and the Mask winds-up in possession of Kellaway who becomes a superhero and uses it to take-out the crime syndicate in town but the power leads him to attack the police chief and almost kill his partner, who is a much more fleshed-out and human character; and Kellaway ends up burying the mask in his basement under a lot of concrete. The Mask begs to be worn and it gives those who wear it godlike powers, and that kind of power should tend to drive people insane, like Kurtz in *Apocalypse Now.* Most people experience it in a cartoon-like way of being because that's generally what it is like and the closest association people who are aware of cartoons can readily assume and be with it on will be to behave like they are in a cartoon.
Childhood classic for me (I'm 33) I think it still holds up very well today. Love it. Asia don't be getting jealous of BJ and Diaz, you are just as beautiful girl.
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. I was 11 when this came out. As I was watching I was reciting every line. Loved that you reacted to this movie. Thank you for the trip down memory lane lol. I also believe that this was Cameron Diaz’s first movie role.
Harry Connick Jr, sang the song in the club. Jim Carrey sang the song escaping the park. And the dog Milo was the star from the sitcom Frazier. A lot of fun guys. 👍
I was a senior in high school when "In Living Color' was on TV. Fire Marshall Bill was the best. You guys should rewatch some of those skits as reactions. He and Damon Wayans were hilarious. 😂😂😂
I love your reactions. You guys were grinning from ear to ear the entire movie. Jim Carey was a HUGE part of the 90s for me growing up as a kid. My first favorite actor. This movie is a staple and everyone needs to watch it.
Who remembers the mask cartoon as a kid? Because of the success of the movie which produced a shit ton of toys like ghostbusters it got its own cartoon & i remember it being good.
The oversized teeth on the Mask were originally to be used only during silent scenes. However, Jim Carrey learned to talk with them on to make his character that much more wacky.
Asia was too much on this one. Between her reacting to BJ reacting to Cameron Diaz to her doing the teeth thing and cracking herself up doing it. Super funny.
I always loved that last minute "Smokin'" remark at the end, not only because Milo gets the Mask and Ipkiss gets the girl, but because it gives you the hint that The Mask & Stanley had fused together to become one person.
They didn't fuse though.... What you see as "the mask" was just Ipkiss's true inner deepest darkest desires come to life, just as his usual self he was able to subdue them and not be as over the top and obvious about it. In the end it's more like he finally gained confidence to be his true self.
The mask is addictive, he lucky she threw it, once he gained confidence the mask 'll start lookin for something else to bring out, like grudges and complexes He's better like that, mixing completely with the mask is losin it, all
I love the scene when The Mask sings Cuban Pete. It's so funny and very Broadway-esque. I really really love the bit toward the end where he appears over the bar and pulls a Clint Eastwood with that line from Dirty Harry. "Now you have to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky ? Well, do ya....punk?"
Mask here is the definition of chaotic neutral. just imagine Mask, Genie, Deadpool, Loki and Joker in the same room. sanity would just 'nope!' out the window.
My uncle was a producer on in living color (he now does blackish, grownish, mixedish). Hearing you guys talk about in living color makes me happy. Thank you!
You just CAN'T be in a bad mood and watch this!! What a great way to sit on a Saturday evening and relax. And I popped some popcorn as soon as you two mentionded it.
So glad you watched this .. one of the best movies that was ever made .. I still quote this movie often .. it's a movie you forget about everything the entire movie which is hard to do these days.. glad you enjoyed it
Diaz always one of my favourite female actors. Not just because she is hot, but also got great natural humour. Any time I've seen her in interviews she seems down to earth and laughing her ass off a lot too. Think one of my favourites for this was her and Tom Cruise on Top Gear.
I can't even describe how much of an all-time favorite iconic classic this is. This movie was my entire childhood. I was literally saying most of the lines before it happened, and reminiscing on scenes that weren't included in this reaction. Like the scene where he was in the alleyway (as The Mask) with that moronic biker gang. Lol He dressed as a Carnival Guy and blew up some balloons for them, even pulling out one of them that turned out to be NOT a balloon.....(if you know, you know), and then finally blowing up a black tinted balloon which turned into a tommy gun! And then when the biker gang all ran away, Mask said something like: _"This is incredible... With these powers, I could be. . . A SUPERHERO!"_ Which answers Asia & BJ's earlier question of if he has powers or not. It's shocking to me that they're just now getting around to seeing this absolute GEM of a movie, that I watched since childhood. It makes me wonder if you guys have never seen his other iconic classics, Like Ace Ventura or Dumb & Dumber? 🤔 The levels of pure nostalgia and fond memories I got from watching this movie is out of this world! It's huge hits like this is why Jim is a LEGEND! 🔥🐐🔥 Actually another fun fact is that he's similar to a cartoon character for a very good reason... The Mask is originated from its own comic books! The comic version has been watered down a bit by the film iteration of the character, because the comic character was actually just as ruthless and cold blooded as Dorian as the Mask... Lol 2 more fun facts: 1) There's technically a sequel to this movie called "Son of the Mask", but it's an absolute ass of a movie. It has a completely different set of actors *(so there's no Jim Carrey),* and it is NOTHING like the first movie. You likely won't like it nearly as much, but it is something to get a few cheap laughs in and if you want to kill some time. Lol And 2) there's a very interesting YT channel called "Death Battle" where research and analysis is done on various different characters from comic books to popular tv shows and movies, and they put 2 different popular characters together in a fight to the DEATH, to see who would win in a fight. Some time ago, they made a *Deadpool vs The Mask* Death Battle! They also touch base on many facts about the original comic version of the Mask as well, and the animated fight itself is absolutely hilarious and brilliant. I highly recommend that y'all check it out. You would really like Death Battle if you haven't already heard of it! From serious battles, such as *Goku vs Superman;* Funny/Goofy/Silly battles such as *Kirby vs Majin Buu, Deadpool vs The Mask, or The Kool-Aid Man vs Macho Man Randy Savage;* horror themed battles such as *Michael Myers vs Jason Voorhees;* or even outright ridiculous/insane battles such as *Saitama (One Punch Man) vs Popeye the Sailor Man!* Death Battle has it ALL! Would love to see your reactions to some of them! 😃👍🔥
I loved your reactions even more than I loved seeing The Mask for the first time back in the day! Seeing your joy and laughter just makes it so much better! Thank you to whoever requested this one and thank you 2 for the reaction (as always)!
This for us was when MOST of us saw Jim Carey in a whole new way and as a Hollywood guy. Like a Tex Avery cartoon come to life. Fun film, glad you both liked it
The song in this movie "Cuban Pete" was one one of the signature numbers of a performance Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball performed on the road (in the U.S.) to convince the network to let both of them star in the revolutionary sit-com: "I Love Lucy". It was a successful performance, and "I Love Lucy" was born (and a lot of what we see on TV today is because of that show).
I love Jim Carey. I grew up watching Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin movies from the 60's. Jerry Lewis absolutely made me belly laugh. I never thought I would find another comedian who would run very close to Jerry Lewis. But Jim Carey is right up there on the top shelf of comedians. Great reaction as always guys. You both have great laughs and you are always very generous with your acknowledgements which just shows how genuine you both are!
Jerry and Jim, and even Dick Van Dyke (DVD)were all hilarious, and all had the reputation of having "rubber faces" and bodies to match, which is a huge part of why they were so famous and successful. However, out of all 3, I really liked DVD because he was also a very great, smart, funny and LIMBER ( i.e. rubbery) dancer too.
Ironically in the cartoon series, based on the movie, Peggy the redheaded reporter actually became the female protagonist. Yep there was a cartoon that ran for 3 seasons & it was really good. The movie is actually based on a comicbook series, which was actually more darker, multiple people wore the mask & when you wore it you became a psychotic killer, & The Mask was known in the comics as The Big Head Killer.
Two of my favourite small details is during the Oscar bit Dorian fixes his hair when he 'notices' the camera and audience. The second is the lady cop who starts singing looks terrified like she knows something is making her sing till the mask infects everyone else as well
THAT WAS FUN !!! I haven't seen this in such a long time & watch both of you reacting to this film had me relive watching again for the first time again. Great reaction video you two !!! Keep it going !!! SMOKING !!!!
(At 10:10) it's ironic when he's transforms putting on the mask or shapeshifts, he's spinning in a cyclone just like the Tasmanian Devil named "Taz" from the Looney tunes does. Since he's the only one character more recognized in this movie to make a cameo (as a pillow), than the wolf from Tex Avery cartoons, Porky Pig, and Daffy Duck, who also appear on this movie.
They wanted an unknown to play the role of Tina so that audiences would think she was playing the femme fatale and have Peggy be the good girl - and then play the switch later on. The woman playing Peggy also played Maid Marian in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, where she was the heroine.
Jack Russell Terriers we're very popular in the 90s. Frasier(Cheers spinoff), Wishbone(kid show on PBS) and Milo being the best character in this movie second to Richard Jeni(RIP, Stanley's coworker at the bank. Very underated comedian and died too early), Milo was the bestest little guy he could be. Great movie, great reaction. 😎❤️ I was lucky enough to have a JRT growing up in the 90s. She was a great dog. We called her Lacey because she would attack my, and my sisters shoelaces when they were untied.
11:17: This film is based on a comic book concept by Mike Richardson and Mark Badger that originally appeared in Dark Horse Presents in 1987. Comic creators Doug Mahnke, John Arcudi, and Chris Warner also worked on subsequent iterations of the character.
Yall have to check out Liar Liar. That movie will have you laughing your ass off. And Ace Ventura that's hilarious too. Oh and Bruce Almighty. He's a comic genius.
My favorite Jim Carrey performance and I still remember being so impressed with Cameron Diaz, it was my first time ever seeing her and she just hit it out of the park! Fun, fun, fun watching you guys react!!👍😁✌
This movie remains hilarious. More reactors need to lean into these 90s and 00s throwback films. Jim Carrey: The Mask (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), Liar Liar (1997) Whoopi Goldberg: Sister Act (1992), Corinna Corinna (1994), The Associate (1996) Michelle Pfeiffer: Witches of Eastwick (1987), Batman Returns (1992), One Fine Day (1996), What Lies Beneath (2000)
Interesting fact: The Mask was actually an extremely violent and bloody comic book. Nevertheless, I love the Jim Carrey version very much. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. The animated series was also very good back when it aired on Cartoon Network.
24:06 aurora borealis :)❤ A natural light's display, predominantly seen in high-latitude regions, that is, around Arctic and Antarctic. It's caused by disturbances in Earth's magnetosphere because of the change of the speed of solar wind.
In Living Color was when I first saw him too. That takes me back. Anton the homeless guy. Played by Damon Wayans with his jar with the pickle. Also, that side look when BJ said he liked Cameron Diaz's character better than the reporter. 😂
Me, Myself and Irene. The sight gag with Jim Carrey and Shannon Whirry on the park bench is a complete showstopper. I can only imagine the looks on your faces!
GREAT reaction video, guys! ...the bridge they're standing on at the film's end (where Tina chucks the mask into the river) is the (old) Sixth Street Bridge - an iconic, real-life bridge in L.A. I'm glad it made it into this movie. The bridge was torn down about 4-5 years ago (rotting from the inside, couldn't be saved), but it's been replaced with the NEW Sixth Street Bridge - ten double-rows of concrete arches, across the L.A. river & a lot of other stuff. (You may have seen news reports of it opening to traffic, which it did a few months back). ...The old sixth street bridge has appeared in other films besides THE MASK, but THE MASK is certainly the, or one of the most prominent films to feature it. ...Don't give BJ too much grief for falling for Tina/Cameron Diaz in this film - not only beautiful, and at the time in her life when she was most attractive, but there's something else too: watch the dance scene again, where The Mask woos her in the nightclub, before Dorian's goons break it up: super high-energy dancing from both of them, coupled with a quick set-up/payoff. The setup: his "I'm gonna kiss you now" expression, then her anticipation, then pay-off: a kiss that literally BLOWS HER SHOES OFF! - That's a pretty passionate moment in the history of film: Hard not to fall in love with it!
Fan fact: Jim Carrey started in stand up at 16. For his first attempt at stand-up comedy his mother made him a yellow suit that looked like the one seen in The Mask (14:59)
This movie really showed people the incredible (albeit usually zany) talent of Jim Carrey. I first noticed him as one of the original cast members of "In Living Color". A hilarious skit-comedy show from 1990 (which, if you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out). 'Tina Carlyle' was Cameron Diaz's first acting role. You talk about making your mark in Hollywood. She was talked about after this movie even more than Jim Carrey. The red headed reporter ("Peggy Brandt') was played by Amy Yasbeck. She also played 'Maid Marian' in "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" (1993). She was also married to another phenomenal talent, John Ritter ("Three's Company" [1976-1984], "Bad Santa" [2003], "Problem Child" [1990], etc) until he sadly past away at age 54 in 2003. The cop 'Lt. Mitch Kellaway' was played by Peter Riegert who was also in another movie that is an all time classic you should try if you haven't already. He played 'Donald "Boon" Schoenstein' in 1978s "National Lampoon's Animal House".
The mechanic shop in the beginning should look quite familiar…. It’s the same building used for the interior shots for Ghostbusters (‘84), it was Ghostbusters HQ..
Jim Carrey’s 1994 may be the greatest year any comedic actor has ever had. Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. He went from being a relative unknown to the biggest movie star in the world in one year. As a little kid at the time, he was my first favorite actor.
Yeah he was in Living Color as relative unknown that time until he got his big break in 94
Not just a comedic actor. ANY actor.
I would have to agree but also add, 1997 was a pretty good year for Jim Carrey as well......Liar Liar was HILARIOUS!
you should check out (if you haven't) 1985's Once Bitten, with Jim as a high school student!
When this movie came out , the next Halloween everyone went as the Mask. It was a great time.

Oh god robin williams with the power of the mask… oh the insanity lol
@@syn420951 or Martin Short. He's got that same hyper kinetic comedy style
Also, the movie was originally supposed to be a horror movie, but it got turned into a comedy because Jim Carrey was cast as the lead.
In the "Cuban Pete" segment, it is indeed Jim Carrey not only dancing but also singing.
The Mask begs to be worn and it gives those who wear it godlike powers, and that kind of power should tend to drive people insane, like Kurtz in *Apocalypse Now.*
Most people experience it in a cartoon-like way of being because that's generally what it is like and the closest association people who are aware of cartoons can readily assume and be with it on will be to behave like they are in a cartoon.
I can't believe BJ admitted that he liked the blonde better than the red head did you see how Asia looked at him! 😄
Same here (and around the same age). I also liked the animated series.
Harry Connick Jr, sang the song in the club. Jim Carrey sang the song escaping the park. And the dog Milo was the star from the sitcom Frazier. A lot of fun guys. 👍
y’all should check out The Burbs with Tom Hanks
Haha love that movie!
And The money pit! 😂
Great reaction!!! 😁😊
As a hardcore Jim Carrey fan, "The Mask" is kick-ass funny movie 😂😁😂
Hope your guys react to Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura!
And Ace Ventura 2 with some of his In Living Color pals.
Whenever Jim Carrey is dancing in a movie it is him; he's just one of those actors that really gets into the part.
Jack Russells are smart, agile, sociable, and hyperactive.
They're a lot of fun, but they need constant interaction. They're not a dog you can ignore.
The oversized teeth on the Mask were originally to be used only during silent scenes. However, Jim Carrey learned to talk with them on to make his character that much more wacky.
My brother, my cousin, and I wore our vhs copy of this movie out because we played and replayed it so often. LOVED this movie growing up.
Asia was too much on this one. Between her reacting to BJ reacting to Cameron Diaz to her doing the teeth thing and cracking herself up doing it. Super funny.
When I was a kid I would do fire marshal Bill impressions constantly 😂 those FMB skits are still hilarious!
Bill was hysterical, but I liked Homey Duh Clown a little more.
What was great about Fire Marshall Bill was that his injuries progressed as the series went along
“Who’s she pointing at?”
“Not you!”
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds exactly like something my wife would say. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The mask is addictive, he lucky she threw it, once he gained confidence the mask 'll start lookin for something else to bring out, like grudges and complexes
He's better like that, mixing completely with the mask is losin it, all
Fun fact: 5:25 The garage was the fire station in Ghostbusters.
True fact jim carrey had a small role in a dirty Harry series movie, played a heroin addict musician that was killed.
@@ninjavigilante5311 I really need to look that up and watch the movie now. I did not know that
Mask here is the definition of chaotic neutral.
just imagine Mask, Genie, Deadpool, Loki and Joker in the same room.
sanity would just 'nope!' out the window.
Loved this as a kid...constant rewind on VHS!
This was like PG13 Deadpool of the 90s. Unforgettable film!
You guys are killing the reactions. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!!!!
So glad you watched this .. one of the best movies that was ever made .. I still quote this movie often .. it's a movie you forget about everything the entire movie which is hard to do these days.. glad you enjoyed it
The dog is Great in this and I think he should of won some kind of special Dog Oscar for this movie. lol
He was doing all this while starring on In Living Color.
With these powers, I could be. . . A SUPERHERO!"_
Which answers Asia & BJ's earlier question of if he has powers or not.
It's shocking to me that they're just now getting around to seeing this absolute GEM of a movie, that I watched since childhood. It makes me wonder if you guys have never seen his other iconic classics, Like Ace Ventura or Dumb & Dumber? 🤔
The levels of pure nostalgia and fond memories I got from watching this movie is out of this world! It's huge hits like this is why Jim is a LEGEND! 🔥🐐🔥
Actually another fun fact is that he's similar to a cartoon character for a very good reason... The Mask is originated from its own comic books! The comic version has been watered down a bit by the film iteration of the character, because the comic character was actually just as ruthless and cold blooded as Dorian as the Mask... Lol
2 more fun facts: 1) There's technically a sequel to this movie called "Son of the Mask", but it's an absolute ass of a movie. It has a completely different set of actors *(so there's no Jim Carrey),* and it is NOTHING like the first movie. You likely won't like it nearly as much, but it is something to get a few cheap laughs in and if you want to kill some time. Lol
And 2) there's a very interesting YT channel called "Death Battle" where research and analysis is done on various different characters from comic books to popular tv shows and movies, and they put 2 different popular characters together in a fight to the DEATH, to see who would win in a fight.
From serious battles, such as *Goku vs Superman;* Funny/Goofy/Silly battles such as *Kirby vs Majin Buu, Deadpool vs The Mask, or The Kool-Aid Man vs Macho Man Randy Savage;* horror themed battles such as *Michael Myers vs Jason Voorhees;* or even outright ridiculous/insane battles such as *Saitama (One Punch Man) vs Popeye the Sailor Man!*
Death Battle has it ALL!
Loki is the Norse god of mischief. So the mask gives him magic powers and unleashes the ego part of the person's personality.
This is the film that made Jim and Cameron.
You will love there's something about Mary with Cameron Diaz.
19:14 when Asia was about to attempt that impression has me floored lol
Checked the dates - Amy Yasbeck played Maid Marian in Robin Hood; The Mask was her next film.
16:27 BJ: "Who's she pointing at?"
Asia (with jealously and anger on her face): "NOT YOU!"
I watched this when I was 6 and ever since I’ve had a soft spot for Jack Russells just because of Milo 😂🥰
He was such a great actor at that time, probably the best actor in comedies too, love him
One of my all time favorite movies from Jim Carrey. One of my favorite of all time
(At 11:04) HOLY SHIT! SHE'S PACKING HEAT!
Love Asia's vibe... so warm and pleasant. BJ snatched him a good one.
My favorite Jim Carrey performance and I still remember being so impressed with Cameron Diaz, it was my first time ever seeing her and she just hit it out of the park! Fun, fun, fun watching you guys react!!👍😁✌
Yes, firemarshall Bill was my fav back in the day!
If you haven't already, can I suggest The Outsiders? It's my favorite 😂
This movie remains hilarious. More reactors need to lean into these 90s and 00s throwback films.
Jim Carrey: The Mask (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), Liar Liar (1997)
Whoopi Goldberg: Sister Act (1992), Corinna Corinna (1994), The Associate (1996)
Michelle Pfeiffer: Witches of Eastwick (1987), Batman Returns (1992), One Fine Day (1996), What Lies Beneath (2000)
The dog is a jack Russell. One of the smartest dogs there is.
Look at the feather on his hat!” “It’s smooth until he’s smooth” got me 😂
Ty
Interesting fact: The Mask was actually an extremely violent and bloody comic book.
Nevertheless, I love the Jim Carrey version very much. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.
The animated series was also very good back when it aired on Cartoon Network.
The Mask's power is Toon Force. Same ability that Bug's Bunny and such have. He can make reality whatever he wants as long as he finds it funny.
I had this on VHS back in the 90's. My first Jim Carrey movie and one of my favorites
Best part of watching reactions is i find some wonderful new channels to enjoy ♡ I look forward to seeing more of your videos ♡♡
You should watch Mask, with Cher!! True story, drama… beautiful!
The mechanic shop in the beginning should look quite familiar….
It’s the same building used for the interior shots for Ghostbusters (‘84), it was Ghostbusters HQ..
(At 26:04) Let's be honest, who DOESN'T remember Jim Carrey singing Cuban Pete?
Haha, finally!!!....."Airplane" may have beat it in the poll but I knew you guys were gonna get to this one eventually. I voted for it way back.....
