Asia had that popcorn for less than 5 minutes and she knew it was all blanket for the rest of the movie. I love it.
except when BJ had somehow clutched it away from her at 39:30 , then she realized it and snatched it back. haha
I toldga
Exactly. Funny/cute stuff.
@@storbokki371 That was funny, and at a tense moment for me, too, because I hadn't seen this movie in many years.. Give Asia her blanket! 😡
Such a tragedy that Heather O'Rourke, the character Carol Ann, died at such a young age, 12 years old. She was 2 years younger than me and I had seen every movie with her in them. I was so sad. Such a darling girl.
Leukemia is what she died from
@@73funkfest No an Intestal condion
@@73funkfest No, she died from Congenital Stenosis of the intestine and then went into septic shock.
Dominique Dunne who played the eldest daughter also died not long after the release of Poltergeist. She was murdered by her crazy ex-boyfriend😢
@@marinamccune4880 yeah I remember that also. Murdered by her chef boyfriend. And if I remember correctly, he got I lighter sentence than I expected given he killed her. That was a tragedy also.
The canary dying is symbolic. Miners used to bring a canary with them when they went digging in case of gas leaks, because they were far more sensitive to it. If you looked at the canary and saw it had died, that meant there was a gas leak and you needed to get out ASAP. In this movie, the canary dying is basically a warning to the family to get out now.
@@robertyeah2259 Great observation!
Thank you both for your comments. Very enlightening.
Okay
You need to watch Poltergeist 2 as it explains everything. It also introduces Taylor ( a native Indian) and Henry Kane (The beast). Kane singing "God is in his holy temple" as he approaches the house is a vison you will never forget.
You got that right. I tried to find the other verses.
The actor was dying of cancer at the time of filming, so it's even creepier because of that
Still, to this day Kane singing that song g as he walks down the road is the scariest, most evil scene I have ever watched. I think of it often and no other movie scene has given me that same feeling of dread and terror.
Oh my gosh, it cracked me up when Asia looks at BJ and says "give me back my blanket!". The look on her face. LOL
I think BJ wanted Asia to stop hiding behind the blanket and watch the movie with him! LOL
@@kev7161 the blanket kept moving higher and higher up her head. Lol. That demon clown scared the hell out of me as a child. I hate clowns and if anyone gave me anything like that it would be in the bottom of the garbage
@@lorir5728 That makes two of us. I think it was obvious the clown was going to come alive at some point in the movie. It did, but not when every1 though.
I remember my parents watched this when it was released and they both said it was a genuinely scary movie. Two days later my brother and I convinced them to take us to see it and they were right…. it’s a very good and scary movie. No ridiculous crap, just damn good story telling and movie making. 🔥
I watched this movie behind my mother’s back: she warned me not to. I paid for it though in nightmares and being terrified to cut off the lights at night. She was so mad- she told me “that’s what you get”! 😆
I saw this movie six times in the theaters when it came out in 1982. The first time I went by myself, was terrified. Kept going back to see it and bringing different friends to see it every time. This movie was so terrifying because it was every childhood nightmare brought to life. And that's what I loved about it. You learned what every character feared and then their fear came to life on screen. The only scene that seemed out of place was the researcher who pulled his face apart in the mirror. It was completely out of step with the rest of the movie.
Years later I had the great pleasure of meeting Zelda Rubinstein, who played the medium, Tangina. She was as sweet as could be.
Did Asia and BJ skip that scene in this reaction? That's part that I remember vividly as a kid (it was so graphic!), but don't see it here in this video...
@@tobindaily9961- Probably on their Patreon.
My favorite part is BJ stealing the BLANKET then Asia going to grab it and not finding it. I watched this movie as a kid. Love watching you two experience the same emotions I had back then.
Frank you saw that 😂 too!! Thanks!
@@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ You guys should watch Grave Secrets: The Legacy of Hilltop Drive or read The Black Hope Horror, both are based on the true story that inspired this movie.
The little girl who played Carol Ann died when she was 12 years old. Her name is Heather O'Rourke. She had some kind of intestine disease. She caught this disease by drinking some well water at her family's home. I was so sad when I heard of her passing.
She was diagnosed with Chronic bowel obstruction, which is now known as Crohn's disease.
@@j.woodbury412 Well, that's not what I read. I guess you could consider intestine disease as Crohn's, but she did drink this well water off of her family's property and got sick. That's what is stated. I was was saddened to hear of her death years ago. Such a talented and beautiful child.
@@j.woodbury412yes she was misdiagnosed and I believe her family sued the hospital
@@TonyGillenwaterher mom won an undisclosed amount of $$$$$
"Tweetie's" cigar box being dug up by the bull dozer is still one of my favorite foreshadowing moments in cinema.
When Asia said "That dead bird has something to do with it", I stopped and thought 'well yes, you're actually quite right'.
Yeah some really strong symbolism there!
Right? Almost no one catches it tho, even after a couple of watches. To be fair, it took me two or three to catch on to that. LOL
The greatest Steven Spielberg film that wasn't directed by Steven Spielberg. Great reaction! 👍🏿
Thanks James! Appreciate you always watching with us
What really sells this movie and the threats is the family. They are so natural/believable. Most drama/romance movies fail to achieve this level of credibility.
One of the great horror classics of all time. I saw this in '82 when it came out and have seen it about four thousand times since. It never tarnishes. Watching it with you two was a blast!
whats really weird is that Heather the little girl died of Cardiac arrest in 1988 after poltergest 3 1988 at the age of 12.................
@iMiteBeDrunkButNotDumbLikeU No she didn't. She had a stomach ailment. The other first was murdered, tho...
This was hands down the MOST entertaining reaction I've ever seen. I'm still chuckling. Loved it.
"Poltergeist I - III" is another one of the best triologys of all time. "Hall of Fame". And Jobeth Williams is the most beautiful TV-mom of all time.
Are they all connected or separate?
@@cwfanyshowsedits4144 It's always the same family, but other ghosts. In this way the parts are all connected.
3 was pritty bad IMHO ... Fair play they tried somthing different by relocating to a modern tower block, but the film felt cheap and lost it's Family aesthetic.
When you think about it JoBeth Williams is just about the only 80s mom from a horror movie that wasn't a total waste of space and actually did something to help her child.
Dee Wallace in Cujo took on a rabid insane St. Bernard for her son in '83.
@@toodlescae And Karen in Child's Play did what she could for Andy in the first film at least.
Jasons mom got revenge for her son in original friday 13th.
"Get away from her, you bi***!" - Ripley, greatest horror movie mom ever.
@@cheffroggy While I agree, I understand why Ripley may not have been thought of. Although she was acting like a mom, it wasn't known she even was a mom before the special edition - there was no mention of her daughter who died in the theatrical release.
fun fact: The "chair-stacking" scene from Poltergeist was a single unedited take. When the camera turns away, the crew members jostle a plant, and you can glimpse their reflection in the appliances as they quickly swap the chairs with a single glued-together stack
I love how into you guys get. Really satisfying to see my old favorite scary movies still have an impact on new audiences today. Asia's face sometimes is so satisfying. Or hiding with the blanket, so good. And then I know the movie is def a banger when she pulls out the "Babe, I don't think I can watch this.."
80's kid here, this movie scared the crap out of me, I was about Robbie's age when it came out. RIP to Heather and Dominique
My favorite movie ever. I saw it when I was 8 and have been researching the paranormal now for 38 years. They got the title wrong, this was a haunting along with demonic presence (the beast). My team has investigated dozens of hauntings as well as demonic cases. The skeletons in the pool were real skeletons. At the time the movie was filmed real human skeletons were cheaper than plastic ones. Jo Beth Williams, Diane, was so scared filming the pool scene that Steven Spielberg was in the water with her. Best movie ever!
So good… BJ you’re gonna need your own Blankey because Asia’s gonna need the whole thing! Another classic for you guys is Nightmare on Elm Street 👻💕
One, two, Freddy's coming for you....
I still get chills listening to that!!!
I was born in 1978, and Poltergeist is straight up one of my favorites of ALL TIME!! It almost never gets old!! That's saying a lot, because almost all movies get worn out to me. Eventually. It was so lovely watching you two experience this movie for the first time! Take care!!!🙂
The ghosts clearly had a strategy for getting the girl. It took me a long time to realize that. Think about it: they snatched her up while the rest of the family focused on getting the boy away from the tree.
I love this movie. The TV People will love your reaction too.
Thanks Windsor Kid!!!
You two were hilarious in this reaction. I really enjoyed this. When BJ grabbed your blanket too funny!
Oh Asia, you and your blanket! 😂 There is a Poltergeist 2, which explains a bit more as to why Carol Ann is a target. There is more to this story. So if you decide to watch the 2nd one, then you’ll see. Thank you, I really enjoyed this reaction. Reminded me of when I first watched it. 💕
Was retconnrd not properly explained
I would not recommend watching the 2nd or 3rd movie. They were dreadful in my opinion.
I agree!
Best quote - "Give me back my blanket".
Carolann looked exactly like my friend, Kathleen, when I was little. My brothers and their friends called her "Polter" bc she looked JUST like her. 😂❤️
As the focus pulls back to run down the doors corridors, she sprints down for her kids and is lifted off her feet as the door opens!!! Omg one of the most dramatical effects I've ever seen!. The desperation of a mother, and power from another world.....MY FAVOURITE MOVIE!!!
I grew up in the era when TVs were huge boxes and were actually part of the furniture in the living room/den. And late at night, after the late late show was over or after Johnny Carson was over, they would play the national anthem & the TV would literally go off for the night. There was no more TV for the rest of the evening. Hard to believe when you consider all the media we have available today.
Two minutes alter the end credits start to roll, the awesome orchestral music is joined by what sounds like a choir of children singing "la, la, la . .. " to the tune of the score. This continues for about a minute more, after which the sweet sounding "la la la's " dissolve into childish, maniacal laughter - as if ghost children are perhaps laughing at the folly of the Freeling family . . . This goes on for over 20 seconds until the sound fades and the screen goes to black . . . This movie doesn't let go, literally until the last possible second!
A poltergeist affects a location or object, while possessions effect people. You should look up the terrible deaths and accidents that surrounds the filming, actors and crew from this film series. Great reaction! 👍😊
Yes a few cast members from this film had sudden deaths a few short years later? Many ppl felt it was in some way tied to this movie!!
1982 was a fun summer with both Poltergeist AND E.T. in the theaters. Steven Spielberg was in the groove! 😀
My favorite part … is the DOG is the first one in the car when the family is escaping the house. 😂
Spielberg understood how to incorporate elements of horror into a more general audience type of film. His films aren't relentless but the scary moments are properly scary.
Fun fact about this movie. It broke some barriers in the field of haunted house movies. Prior to poltergeist, haunted house movies almost always occurred amongst the aristocracy in big mansions and such. Romero and Spielberg filmed this movie in a suburban setting that was more familiar and relatable to a broader audience. The Freeling's house looked like a million other houses that most people have been in or lived in rather than the stereotypical creepy old house or mansion that everyone knows to avoid. You can't avoid what looks and feels exactly like the house you live in.
I'm old enough I remember the TV station signing off for the night with the National Anthem.
Fun Fact: The father in this movie played by Gray T Nelson who also voice Mr Incredible from Pixar The Incredibles.
The reason I've been terrified of clowns my whole life.
I love watching you guys watch movies that I saw long ago in the theater. This one made me do several back flips. In 1982 I saw this this in the theater. I started in the front row and ended up in the back row. Probably what made me jump the most where the kitchen chairs.
You guys are great.
If you're interested I recommend one of my favorite movies of all time.
Cool Hand Luke
He he heeee...at 39:32 BJ stole Asia's blanket and at 39:55 she grabs for it , it's not there and she's like "Ba Babe?! Gimmi my blanket!!" LOL 😂 You two crack me up ❤ Thanks for sharing with us, loved your reactions. (don't forget to check out the movie "The Thing" staring Kurt Russell)
It was maybe 2 years ago and on a livestream I said his cousin was behind him. When you open a door and keep watching these movies? Burn that Oija pillow! You have to burn it. 4 elements, earth air Fire water.
Top tier horror combined with top tier film making! 80’s perfection!
Not sure if someone mentioned that digging the hole at the beginning for the construction of the pool is what actually dusturbed the 'spirits'.
Edited to correct typos.
😂
When you were first talking about the clown, I kept saying out loud, “y’all don’t even KNOW about that damn clown!” LOL!
I really enjoyed this!
And, BJ, I saw you steal that blanket cuz you were scared! LOL 😂
I saw it in the theater 40 yrs ago and have seen it dozens of times, but watching it again with you two made it all fresh again!
"God help me" i'm a mother and would be asking and Praying for that for my babies.
"Steven help us" your husband/man is the king and protector, you're gonna call on him. Both these scenes brought me to tears. Great movie..
7:30
Those two actors starred in Stir Crazy about 2 years earlier (1980).
You let Asia have that blanket BJ! She must be protected at all costs 😭❤
SO much fun to watch this with people who have fresh eyes for it! I've seen this flick dozens and dozens of times over the years, I ALWAYS love it. It is the movie that scarred my little sister for life and to this day, she is hateful and terrified of clowns. When we went to the Zak Bagans museum, there was a replica (or maybe the original?) clown from this movie... she hit me in the arm SO hard when she saw it. *LOL* It's big, by the way. Big doll. Anyway, first saw it in a military theater. If you've never been in one, they always play the National Anthem first and all the watchers stand at attention, then sit when it's over. So we did and then the movie opened... to the National Anthem. We were all confused, looking at each other, like 'Do we stand again? What do we do?' But the image cut in and we understood it was the movie, so we put our butts back down. This is one of those 'cursed movies' and even franchises, so might be fun for you to delve into the history and see what horrors befell these poor actors. The 2nd one is not so bad as sequels go. Glad you saw it! Glad I saw it with you! (P.s.: they only mention it in passing when Stephen and his boss are talking, but Carol Anne is so special because she was born in the house, so 'tied' to it.)
My favorite part of thr entire movie. A matchbox car rolled across a floor, it took hours. The dad looking at him like, hmm, ok.
RIP to Zelda Rubinstein, Dominique Dunne and Heather O'Rourke. 🕊️
The goo all over them after they go through the portal is called Ectoplasm. If you've seen Ghostbusters there's a scene where Peter says, "He slimed me." That's also ectoplasm, which is kinda the physical matter that manifests from contact with ghosts.
I think my favorite part was when Asia said “give me my blanket!”
The stacked chairs scared the hell out of the audience when I saw it first run as a kid. Scared me just now too. Masterful practical effect.
This one was one of the very first scary movies I ever saw. It is still one of my favorites! I watch it every Halloween.
I found this channel not to long ago and I just want to say that you guys reactions are just pure amazing and thank you for taking your time to watch the movies and post them
😂 Asia’s GIGANTIC eyes peeking out from behind her protective blankie😂😂 She’s so cute!
Nice to see these young people appreciating this great movie so many years later.
Another great reaction!
I was 17 when this movie premiered. Seeing this in a theater was something let me tell you. Watching you see this for the first time brought back great memories of the audience and of their reaction. Thank you!!
JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson playing as couples are such good performances in this horror movie.
That's a childhood favorite for me. I loved to scare my aunt repeating the Tangina Barrons discourse on the spirits, given the many times i watched this. Soundtrack is spot on also
I forgot how good the music score was for this movie. It's perfect.
Asia and BJ's running exposition and their visceral reactions really make this channel worth watching. 👏
Poor Carol Anne just couldn't catch a break. She was so cute in these movies, and a couple more, then when she was 12, she passed away. This movie was such a classic in the genre. RIP, Carol Anne.
Carol Anne explains why she had to be the one to help the spirits cross over to the afterlife in Poltergeist 3 - she was born in the house, so the spirits have been following her light since she was a baby
In a similar vein, the body of a little girl just shy of three years old was found in the basement of a San Francisco home during a home renovation project in 2016. Resting in a cast iron coffin since 1876, the child's body was in a remarkable state of preservation but her identity was a mystery, but she gained the name of Miranda Eve. After further research, she was positively identified as Edith Howard Cook and was subsequently reburied. The cemetery where she was interred had been moved some years later to make room for residential construction, but her coffin had been missed by work crews.
This hands down was the best reaction video I've enjoyed watching from you guys! Asia slayed me with her hilarious reactions. I could list them all, but then this comment would become a novel. :p
We didn't have 24-hour channels back then, and even in the early days of cable, some channels shifted to infomercials for several hours in the middle of the night.
This movie pre-dates purported Electronic Voice Phenomena.
what i love about this movie is that everybody sells it very well. especially JoBeth Williams. they're a believable family and it's believable that something very strange is happening to them. Diane is having none of it if it means Carol Ann is in danger. it's all very well done. haven't seen too many modern movies with performances/writing this believable.
The dad....Craig T Nielsen....later, "THE COACH," Hayden Fox in the series "Coach." 1989-1987....Legendary Sitcom
Asia *snatching* the blanket has me on the floooor
Love your reactions. Asia is so funny when she gets scared. xx
Poltergeist is a classic and like many classic movies there is a legend of a curse on the movie! The girl who played the oldest daughter in this film, Dominique Dunne, was killed by her obsessed ex boyfriend, and Heather O’Rouke who played Carol Anne died during the filming of Poltergeist 3 from intestinal abnormality! There were also two other cast members deaths during or soon after filming the Poltergeist movies!❤❤
Oh my God y’all breathed new life into one of my favorite movies !! Y’all’s reactions are priceless 👏
60's, 70's and 80's, the channels would play the anthem before they went off the aire. It was her life force! The sad thing is, I think the child that starred in the movie died at a very young age of 12 years old and the older sister was murdered by a fan.
Heather created one if the most iconic lines --
"they're here" ....
R.I.P.
At 6:56 the clown. Growing up in the 70's/80's we had a clown chair. To this day anytime anyone mentions this movie I go right back to being a kid and remembering that "Clown Chair", and being totally creeped out LOL. Thank for reacting to this movie. One of my all time favorite movies.
That little lady who played the psychic was later suspected of armed robbery -- the headline read, "SMALL MEDIUM AT LARGE"
Fun fact, the scene where Jobeth Williams falls in the muddy pool hole at the end was full of real human skeletons. sadly the film was cursed as Heather O'Rourke died a few years later aged 12 and Dominique Dunn was murdered by a stalker.
39:32 BJ using/taking that blanket was everything.
I'm just like you mentioned the people who passed away from the filming of The wizard of Oz some of the older dwarfs that were in the movie actually pass for medical reasons but one stayed alive for the longest time and did some other moves. But there's kind of bloopers in the movies like a whole bottles on the side with hands reaching out microphones hanging down zippers showing on the trees ,all kinds of things behind the scenes is pretty cool.
THIS has got to be the BEST reaction that you two have done! It was AWESOME!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
One of my favourite horror films, with one of my all-time favourite scores by Jerry Goldsmith. It sometimes gets overlooked, but it's a true classic. Sadly, I didn't see it on the big screen when it came out: I watched it at university in 1983, in a tiny TV room in my hall of residence, on a tiny TV up on a shelf, played from VHS. Not the best presentation, but I was still deeply stirred by it! Back in the 1980s this was pretty scary stuff if you were a kid. My favourite effect was the big skeletal beast guarding the door with all that waving stuff all over it (it was filmed under water, which was a brilliant idea). It looks so disturbing!
I remember seeing this in the theater when it first came out in 1982.
I was a Sophomore in H.S. it was awesome! 😀👍
"Cuesta Verde" otherwise known as Simi Valley, Ca... Where this was filmed. Lived 3 minutes from this house. This movie is a Classic!! Y'all need to watch the second one.
Poltergeist 2 was great too!!
Dolby Surround Sound with Sub woofers and computer special effects was brand new tech back then. Steven Spielberg jumped right in and really embraced it. When you saw these movies back then it was mind blowing. You felt like you'd been on a roller coaster.
38:00
There was another UA-camr that made a comment at this point in the movie that I wholeheartedly agree with.
“I can’t even feel bad for y’all at this point! You knew better than to be in that damn house!”
Hey guys, this film is directed by the same man who did "Texas Chainsaw Mas" (1974) . And the dad in the movie is the voice of Mr. Incredible.
I’ve watched this movie many times, but watching U2 watching it for the first time made me laugh so hard. I almost peed my pants.
Yes Most Broadcast stations used to sign off and turn off their radio transmission towers after a certain time period each night. This was before they released that you could sell late night programming for cheap and even that small amount of ad revenue was worth the cost to run the transmission. Also with pre-digital equipment it allowed the staff to service their equipment. However as things advanced from the 1970s-1990s the station equipment was more “turn-key” and having redundancy was not that expensive. It just became unnecessary to ever turn it off.
Heather O'Rourke ,who plays Carol Anne in all 3 Poltergeist films died suddenly at age 11 from genetic stenosis in her intestines.
True fact that many people don't know about the pool scene...the skeletons in the pool were were made from real human skeletons....even the directors didn't know that truth until after the movie was released
It was probably mentioned in the comments already, but the skeletons in the pool were real human remains used for the scene.
I mean Steven Spielberg is a bloody genius. All his movies are brilliant. Fire Starter, Carrie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET, need I go on? Such a classic movie. By the way there is a follow up to this movie. I love watching along again with you guys watching your reactions LOL
I am weak as hell you know there are curtains on EVERY window in Asias house she always notices in movies when there aren't. I might actually need to go get some myself now I feel weird walking through my living room knowing everyone can see in. Great reaction! :D
“You can have the whole house. I was gonna give it to you anyway.” 🤣🤣
The actress that played Carol Ann Heather O'Rourke, died at 13. The actress who placed her older sister, Dominique Dunn, died at 23.
I saw this in the theater when it came out (I was 10), and spent almost half the movie with my hands on my face just like Asia. :)
