  • Professional surfer Bethany Hamilton rose to fame after a shark attack. With biopics, memoirs, and documentaries like Soul Surfer and Unstoppable, Hamilton has been known for a can-do spirit. However, her career has been shrouded in inspiration porn, and in recent years, she has expressed transphobic views.

Disappointed but not surprised to see her being transphobic. From a trans person, thank you for your outspoken allyship ❤

"Converted women"? I can't say what I want to, because your channel is a nice place. But she really needs to stop thinking "transwomen and women". That's like separating blonde women and women. The second group contains the first, no matter what she believes

She’s pretty much fundie lite, her kids are homeschooled, her husband is some kind of minister, she promotes PureFlix and GAC (the conservative channel that Candace Cameron Bure does Christmas movies for because Hallmark is too liberal for her now). No surprise she falls for this stuff. Also a lot of comments on inspiration porn videos evoke religion (ex: “I need to stop complaining, thank you Jesus for not making me disabled like that poor thing”)

Her biopic movie, Soul Surfer, was Christian inspiration porn. People like her and Ocean Ramsey are the reason we need more queer and indigenous perspectives in conservation as they do not care.
