Watching this after having finished the game when I picked Mahina... God, it hurts so bad. And I can only imagine the reverse is true for anyone who picked Akalā.
Oh it was. I just finished Ochette's story tonight myself, and fought the owl. Got curious and looked up the alternate boss and my heart almost shattered for poor Akala. He looked terrible. Poor boy.
just beat Ochette's chapter and goddamn. It's really a credit to the writers that they could make the final chapter of one of the least focused stories in the game such an emotional one. The moment I saw these final moments I felt so damn sad at a pixel owl I haven't seen since 60 hours ago, that I could not believe it. The song definitely doesn't help too.:D
21:53 The first final chapter boss I did was Castti’s, and holy sh*t that change in music caught me off guard. I’m glad they had it for ALL the final chapter bosses.
Darkling Mahina is the creepier, more disturbing one. Darkling Akalā is the more feral-looking, more intimidating one. They each have their own way of making your skin crawl. All you can do is pick your poison.
Loved how this game had Ochette’s story take a dark twist on the Pokemon formula (the starter you don’t choose has to be mercy killed as a boss and the equivilant Team Rocket character is part of a death cult bent on inflicting death, destruction, and despair). You do fight her in the final story, or at least what she became. Gotta say as someone who picked Mahina, by watching this video, the Akala Route results in a significantly more difficult end boss than the Mahina Route. Then again I had Paritio/Arcanist as my starter as part of a lockdown build. It takes longer to lock down magic bosses (and requires Agnea) like Mahina than to lock down physical bosses like Akala.
Champions of the Continent actually canonize Ochette choosing Akala as her partner so this fight is even sadder since, in canon, Mahina was the one meant to get left behind.
Makes sense in a way. Ochette's quest was to fight the Night of the Scarlet MOON. It's thematically appropriate for Mahina, a moon-owl, to be the final boss (I still chose her when I played).
The story of ochettes final boss is amazing, but i hate how they made them a gimmick boss. I wiped because for whatever reason i have to let them bring all my party members to 1 hp and go through a forced cutscene before im allowed to take dowm the boss...
Christina Vee did a much better job here even though she barely talks then whoever did Akala, Mahina genuinely sounds completely in pain and corrupted in the final part of the part in the battle, this boss just looks sick as hell and I'm upset that I didn't choose Akala (especially because Mahina has been almost completely useless for me lmao)
Yeah I almost never used this bird, apparently it's good with Provoke Beasts because it always hits a weakness 3-6 times but like, it's unpredictable and neither is that good, I woulda rather had this sick Owl as the final boss.
Honestly neither Mahina or Akala are very useful after the first couple hours of the game 😂I just picked Mahina because I preferred her look and I liked her flying animation when walking around
I choose death, and it was epic, I kind of went hardcore for quite a long time and tried to beat him with Akala chosen though. Really had no idea what to do, kept regenerating health, I gave up throughout the night lol.
You could have used Leghold Trap a few of these times to give yourself more chances to break this boss while spending less BP. I also don't get why you kept spamming Advanced Magic when you had enough stacks to OTM spam this boss to death
There's so many things that have left me confused in this gameplay, mostly the secondary Jobs but a few choices that could've made this fight a lot cleaner

I feel the same bro 😢

Ochette’s ending is difficult for a pet owner
I picked Akala to go against the grain. .. Now I don't DARE watch the final boss where he's turned into an abomination!
I didn’t actually expect this choice to matter, next playthrough I gotta pick the Fox
Seeing this fight after choosing mahina myself is absolutely heartbreaking

I feel so sad for either one of them... developers are cruel
And we’re not even talking about crick

Yeah the “in pursuit of ___ ends” tracks are such a nice addition.
Evil Christina Vee Owl definitely looks spooky but to me evil akala looks terrifying. Plus I like the dialogue with Mahina more.
The voice of the owl in pain during its third transformation straight up haunted me for days. Christina is fantastic.
Mahina's personality is better. Akala seems more cold.
i'm not a fan of the Miney mouse sounding barn owl myself, but i've never heard what the fox had to offer instead.
Agreed Akala fits better than mahina as role of final boss.
"Let's end it here!"
Ochette the proceeded to die
Mahina looks a lot creepier as the Darkling than Akala.
Agreed
Darkling Mahina is the creepier, more disturbing one.
Darkling Akalā is the more feral-looking, more intimidating one.

Esta lucha con el compañero inicial que no eliges actuando de jefe, la luna carmesí de fondo, la playa, la banda sonora, es simplemente alucinante.
23:29 "So... Can i leave now?"
The absolute nine turns of Advanced Magic
I get the feeling 80 percent of people picked Mahina. Akala seems a lot more cold. I'm glad i picked Mahina instead.

It also makes sense because who wouldn't choose a dog 🐕 as a companion?
The matching blue bracelets and the way she howls. It makes sense that she grew up with akala
I chose Mahina 😮
I felt so bad after this fight that I had to play the game a second time and pick Akala... WHY DOES IT MAKE US CHOOSE?!
Choices have consequences.
Is it just me or does mahinas boss form remind anyone of wan-shi-tong, the knowledge spirit from avatar the last Airbender?
The story of ochettes final boss is amazing, but i hate how they made them a gimmick boss. I wiped because for whatever reason i have to let them bring all my party members to 1 hp and go through a forced cutscene before im allowed to take dowm the boss...
I didn't have too much trouble in my playthrough, one Mythical Bore from Hikari takes it to the second phase almost immediately I think.

I also was like: oh magic! So I chose Mahina. But tbh, I wouldnt have used neither. I prefered Hikari.

I like the way you broke after the final fight boh!
22:09 clearly the bird doesn’t like girls😂
Darkling akala is canon

Saw a few times he could've used advanced magic or alephan + latent to do a lot of damage but he didn't. idk why
Beat the game within a week after release, there was no wiki or info on game. Wasn’t a fan of magic till secret boss.
Huhu corrupted Mahina qwq
