I disagree, Kimi is Lewis/Max good. If Merc does not challenge for the championship this year Toto should bring Kimi in when he is 18 years old (he wouldn't be able to race in F1 this year until after August no matter how many Super License points he has). If they are still a top two or three team then pay whomever whatever to get him a seat at Williams or Haas for a year or at most two and if he can drive move him up to replace which ever seat you choose. He will be better than George after 3 years the same way Max was always going to be better than Danny Ric when he moved up to the main team. If they don't do that Kimi should do a Max and leave them for a team that will give him an F1 seat in 2025. Drivers at a Max, Lewis, Vettel level will learn more running in the midfield of F1 than another season in F2 because you don't develop a true talent racing against lesser talent. Kimi is that level of driver.
Logan Sargent is not 'good', he is a below average F1 talent and has not shown he can develop into anything but a poor F1 driver. I'm American through and through but him driving in F1 is like me running in the Olympics, not the best representation for 'merca and not the best we have to offer. Bad rookies may develop into average or even decent midfield F1 drivers but they will never develop into championship level drivers. I think keeping Logan was mistake, there are a dozen better options for that seat. What rookie has ended their season 18th or lower (much less 21st in a 20 driver championship) and then developed into a champion ever? But, on the other hand he was hired to replace Nicholas Latifi and has done an excellent job of that. Heck, there were many times watching Logan I forgot Williams had let Nicholas go.

    • @dylanburston7453
      @dylanburston7453 5 місяців тому

@@staLkerhu I know, but the big teams are sitting on millions and millions of dollars.
Ferrari went to the WEC because the cost cap meant they had aload of money lying around doing nothing.
The big teams would have more than enough to run a third car. If the third car doesnt go towards the constructors, it would still be fair for the smaller teas with a revised points system.
Because its the big teams who are sitting on piles of cash, and its the big teams with a backlog of drivers in their academy.
And it could work out much better for the smaller teams, not having a rookie they dont want forced on them by their engine supplier.
Just look at the issues its caused the Alpine/Renault driver academey. Because they dont supply anyone with engines (and when they did, it was to teams above them so they didnt hold any political power over them) everyone who went thru that system had to get out because they dont have a seat in F1. Piastri went to Mclaren and Zhou had to go to Alfa.
A 3rd car rule would fill out the grid (which looks pathetic with only 20 cars) and allow more rookies in the sport.Drivers are lasting much longer in the sport, so new seats are opening less, their hasnt been a new team in coming up to 10 years. F1 needs alot more seats, and they are not going to create that amount on new teams alone.
If the FIA/Liberty would be willing to spend a bit more and let all the proposed new teams in then the third car would be unessacry, but that isnt going to happen

Half of the hype around Antonelli is because he's a good driver (and he seems really good, given his record over the last couple of years, but I'm just looking at his results there, I haven't seen him race yet), while the other half is simply because his middle name is Kimi! I say that in jest somewhat, but honestly, I think Prema have a fun lineup in prospect with he and Ollie Bearman in F2 for 2024, they'll probably both be among the title favourites.
I still think JEV should've got the 2015 Red Bull drive rather than Kvyat, if only for the fact that Dani was only going into his second season. But considering he's become one of FE's best drivers in the years since, well, he certainly won't be complaining.
And to be honest, I wasn't too sure about Wehrlein in F1. Sure, he was decent in the Manor, but I don't think he blew Ericsson out of the water in the Sauber like people might've expected (then again, I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few people who don't think that Marcus was a complete dud in F1).

Plus, petronas will appreciate a driver with southeast asian appeal like Albon (not sure how much that is in reality). Lastly albon seems like hes on a major upwards trajectory and everyone likes him. the merc-> williams pipeline seems to be pretty solidly eatablished at this point. Young Mr Antonelli WILL get there....but why rush him? Isnt there a lower age limit for F1 drivers now, following Max coming into the sport?
I'd put my money on Lewis hanging it up at the end of 2025 ahead of the regulation changes, Mercedes have got 2 years to fully evaluate Kimi and see if he's the man for the drive.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them switching to an Audi PU in coming years to seal that either.
They're in a very strong position of development and frankly, they don't *need* Antonelli. They have a fairly desirable seat for someone like Checo or Bottas to move into in Sargent doesn't cut it. He'll, Gasly may even be looking at them seeing how Albon has thrived there post RB and thinking he could go for a slice of that pie.

The driver academies is such a double edged sword and while it is exciting for a 13 year old that shows a huge amount of talent gets told by Mercedes or RB they want to sign you to their academy and they cant grab a pen fast enough not thinking in 8 or 9 years what they did way back then was sign themselves in to a corner and a teams walking clothes hanger for the team gear and your professional career is on hold because you can only race with the blessings of your overlords and they wont let you race in anything higher than a club day. The sheer amount of talent put on the scrap heap that did not even get a drive because they found themselves contracted to a team where the drivers they have driving are good and the reserve driver is also class. The worse thing Antonelli could do is win F2 because he will find himself with no drive the next year and be stuck in no mans land.

If I were Toto tho, I'd consider offering Mick or Carlos a contract with Mercedes for a year, possibly two, starting in 2025 or extending to 2026. Then, if Kimi were to win Formula 2 this year, he could join Mercedes in 2026, perhaps replacing Sargent at Williams in 2025. If Kimi doesn't win F2 this year, he could spend another season there, putting more time into the sim and the development of the car, aiming for an F1 debut by 2026-27.

Yeah that's true. Once he's 18 though, Toto will be sorely tempted. We will see him in FP1 sessions this year.

I think you should talk a bit about Pascal. I do thin he was a missed F1 succesful driver.

Maybe. Perhaps a video about the drivers that didn't quite make it or were outed way too soon.

If Kimi wins F2 he has a strong chance I would think replacing Alex Albon at Williams with Alex going to Mercedes?

The most obvious solution to finding seats for the future stars is to have new teams. There is technically space for three more teams on the grid. If new teams _don't_ get allowed to join, all the money spent on the various academy drivers will be wasted. They'll stop supporting new drivers, and we could miss out on future stars. All of this whining about not wanting to share the pot is ridiculous.

It really is the case. 11 teams would be reasonable and an American team could be a great avenue in for unlikely drivers.
