      @@CoryLancasterYTive had the 900 and 921 tours and love them. It’s just the long irons I struggle with when I’m not swinging as well but I wouldn’t say they’re razor thin. Def easier to hit than blades. It’s just interesting I never see a comparison with the tours vs the 223/243. I also bought the 921 before the 223 came out.

      the Mizuno Pro and JPX lines "leap frog" each other in terms of forgiveness if I remember correctly. 241 > JPX Tour > 243 > JPX forged > 245 > other JPX clubs. JPX forged and 245 are very similar clubs, main difference is 245 is hollow body

      @@TheEquipmentJunkie I enjoy the comparison videos especially from better players - whether that be similar clubs across different brands or even like you mentioned briefly in this video comparing a blade to a players club with more forgiveness - maybe see how many greens you hit with a T100 vs your blades or even vs i230? Also, like this video and several before it, doing reviews on new products or new product families is always appreciated. Some ideas for the future: maybe create some kind of power ranking system for club sub-categories with a point system (forgiveness, feel, turf interaction, etc. as metrics). Have a category for blades (P7MB type), player cavity backs (P7MC type), player forgiveness (P770 type), player distance (P790 type), etc. You could potentially track this over the years and update a spreadsheet for ranking these clubs which could also track improvements over time, occasionally coming back to re-test the previous years' kings of the sub-category to see how the new stuff stacks up. Also, if you have fitting experience, educating people on shaft profiles, weights, stiffness, etc can be interesting.

    Managed to get a brand new set of 241’s in my custom setup (2 degrees up, 1/2” longer, kbs tour shaft in stiff.. and even with my z-grip) for half price at a local shop, so I couldn’t resist grabbing them. I already own a set of MP-5’s so I knew what I would be getting into by getting the blades!
    I’m a 15 hcp (13 was my lowest in the summer, but I also count rounds in the winter here towards my hcp, so every year the hcp goes up by a few points due to that)… am I good enough to play them? I would say “not when it counts”, so for competitions and qualifying rounds I will still use my trusty 921’s (or maybe look into the 243 or 245’s or their successors as a replacement), but just as with the MP-5’s, I will use the 241 for “fun rounds” in the summer, when it doesn’t matter when I have a mishit here or there. They’re also amazing for practising on the range. You really learn to get more consistent with your ball-striking when using those, as you will feel each mishit in your fingers (especially now in the winter ;))
    Are blades difficult to play? Well, they’re not easy, but for anyone with a mid-handicap I would say they’re not as bad as everyone makes them out to be, and as I said, they’re a great training tool to improve!

    Very interesting, thanks. Would you say the Pro 243 is for a much better golfer than the Pro 245? I’m a 16 handicap overall, but my iron striking is a strong part of my game - maybe 10-12 handicap equivalent (my short game is atrocious). I’m very tempted by the Pro 245, but what worries me is the strong lofts. My MX-20 7-iron is 33 degrees. I don’t really want to go weakening the lofts of new clubs.

    • @TheEquipmentJunkie
      @TheEquipmentJunkie  10 місяців тому +2

      I would say, specifically in the long clubs, the 245 just allows you to have a wider shot pattern across the face and get away with it (in terms of land angle/carry). A good idea for you could be to blend the 243 and 245, (I was considering this also).
      That said, I would definitely test both before making any decisions; Additionally, don’t be scared of bending weak to hit the launch/spin numbers that are optimal for your game. This is very common practice, especially for a high-end forging like Mizuno.

    • @TheEquipmentJunkie
      @TheEquipmentJunkie  11 місяців тому +1

      I absolutely think it's a possibility. That said, and as you mentioned, the HMP is stronger lofted than the 245 so you may lose a hair of distance; But on the contrary, you will likely pick up some height which imo is worth the tradeoff.
      In terms of the forgiveness, it really just depends on how comfortable you are with finding the center of the face. You can definitely get away with some heel and toe strikes with the 245's, but if you really struggle to find center decently often then the HMP may be a better option.

    Great review...how would you compare the forgiveness of the 4/5 iron of the 243 vs. the 245? Are the 245's significantly more forgiving in those irons? Would a lower handicap but average ball striker benefit from doing a combo set 245 in the long irons or do you feel like someone like this could go full set 243 because of the forgiveness improvement?

    • @TheEquipmentJunkie
      @TheEquipmentJunkie  11 місяців тому

      I would definitely consider the 245 more forgiving than the 243. That said, I think if you are comfortable with a smaller shape and find the center more than the heel/toe, then the 243 is very playable in the long clubs.
      To me it becomes more so a question of height and distance control on the mis-hit's
      With the 245 I think (at the same loft) it is gives you more height and distance than the 243 on a mis-hit which is really important in your longer clubs imo.
      Me personally, I was considering a 245/243 combo set with 245 in the 4/5i and 243 6-PW all bent 1-2* weak. This would give me a hair of help in the longer clubs and then more control in the shorter ones which, on paper, sounds like a darn near perfect set.
      I'm comfortable with my ball-striking, but finding the center is always difficult with a 4/5 iron in a smaller head and I think the 245 just offers a bit more help which I do really like.

      Really depends what you need! Both are great heads but they perform differently.
      241 requires precise control over low point and strike point but imo offers the most consistency and control.
      245 doesn't require as much precision, but on the contrary doesn't offer quite as much ability to manipulate curve/ball flight.

      Guys I have 0317T and 225’s and the 225’s are much much more forgiving and feel softer/muted with strikes overall. The 0317T when hit right on the sweet spot nothing feels like it.
      So I’m guessing the 245’s vs 0317T be similar to what I described above.

      Thanks for the kind words Scott!
      I would say they are actually relatively comparable overall, just in slightly different packages.
      The 245 plays with a bit less bounce than the 0317T's, which is something to consider.
      Feel wise, it's close but I think I would give the edge to the 0317T's. They just don't feel hollow to me at all, which is really impressive for a players distance iron.
      Forgiveness wise, I think I would give the edge to the 245's, especially in the longer clubs.
      Looks wise, I prefer the 0317T's in the shorter clubs, but the slightly thicker look of the 245's in the longer clubs.
      Overall it's genuinely quite close and just depends what you are looking for. I would really recommend testing both before making a decision.

    Stuck between buying Mizuno Pro 241 and Titleist T100, I know they’re a little different overall but any feedback from someone’s who’s hit both? Currently gaming Mp18, fit into KBS c taper 130x

    • @TheEquipmentJunkie
      @TheEquipmentJunkie  11 місяців тому +1

      Think it just really depends what you are looking for.
      241’s will pretty simply be more demanding in terms of ball striking compared to the T100’s.
      Additionally the height on good strikes but also mis-hits will be a factor to consider, with T100’s likely to be a bit higher launching.
      Lastly, T100 plays with very low bounce in my experience, whereas the 241 sits in that more mid-bounce category. That said, the T100 is a wider soled club vs a narrower sole in 241.
      I personally prefer the 241 in the short clubs, but appreciate the forgiveness of something like a T100 styled club later in the set.

    Would -1 loft mess with bounce and offset? Would be my concern I have pretty high club speed mid/high 90s with 7i could use some more loft but I still create 68-7k spin and 130ft high balls standard

    • @daemonblackfyre7171

      Delofting by one degree would increase offset and decrease bounce a bit. Given that the increased bounce is a big selling point of this new line that would be an unfortunate consequence.

    I used to game the jpx 900 hot metals. Now I’m gaming the ping i210s. Which Mizuno models are the most comparable to the ping i210s and would you recommend them over the i210s? Are the t200s the comparable line for Titleist?

    You think you could combo 245 and 243 or even” if Luke Donald plays all 245 that will do me “?

    • @TheEquipmentJunkie
      @TheEquipmentJunkie  11 місяців тому

      I absolutely think you could combo the 243/245's. In fact I was thinking about doing it myself because, on paper, it sound like the ideal blend of distance and control.
      From my understanding LD plays his 245's bent a few degrees weak to get the launch and spin in a window closer to where he was with the 221's.
      That said, it really is shocking to me he is playing the 245's thru his full set and not combo'ing, especially considering he came from blades previously.
      My initial thought is that the X100 iron shaft's are something he doesn't want to switch; And as he's gotten older/lost some speed, rather than going to a lighter shaft he felt it would be better to move to a higher launching head.

    I wish manufacturers would literally eliminate offset to the point of I truly wish to look down on a blade with onset: playing a club that makes you feel like you have to address the ball differently, like an iron with heavy offset greater than 2-3mm, than you normally would, is a real challenge for me.

    • @johnbrodnik839
      @johnbrodnik839 5 місяців тому

      For everybody!
      Offset is for moving the ball left and higher. Just the opposite of what a good player wants.

    Mizuno's best Irons to date, are the MX-20's and the MX-23's. It's not even an argument. They should produce them again.

    No doubting the feel and performance but I'm not in love with the shape and address position view of the 241's. Wilson Staff model way better shape at address and i reckon they'll beat these hands down at a more competitive value for money price point. Lets face it. Golf equipment at this level is very expensive.

    hit the 245's and are a touch more forgiving than the 225's on thin shots and not as long. everything else is the same. Also, a little higher ball flight. As a high ball, high spin player the 225's are better for me. If there were no 225's, I would buy the 245's.

    I just picked up the 223s. The 6 iron is tough for me to hit. I switched to graphite shafts this year. Not the fastest swing speed. Previously played the 923 Hot metals. Any suggestions on a 6 iron. Should I consider the 245? Or go back to the hot metal family for height and forgiveness? My miss is a thin shot.
