It still amazes me how some other mechanics, and especially main dealers, can get away with their rip-off prices for such a few of the most basic mechanical repairs. Well done for keeping things more realistic.

I've never liked them ha ha ive had pics and screw drivers stabbed in hands from them, they're always a nightmare......ill 2nd that with the discs and pads 😉

I just got a 2010 Qashqai 1.5 dci its done a few miles but drives great tbf I'm happy especially as it was free! 👍🏻👍🏻

Like you say always have a nice clean car when taking it for an MOT all so remember to put up the seats in the boot and plug-in all your seatbelts and take out your dash cam because they don't like being filmed. Keep up the good work.👍👍👍👍👍
It's first impressions that count, if a tester goes out and you car it a state in his head is going to be in a negative space about your car, if its clean then it'll be positive

Parking brake fail on these is quite often that the cable or cables have popped out of the carrier.
Just pop off the cup holder (by the hand brake lever) and pop it or them back in.
5-10 minute job.
You do need skinny forearms, though.

Don’t know if drum brakes are different now, when I ran old bangers they all had drums on the rear… I just assembled the shoes on the bench with the springs all relaxed. Just lower the pare as one assembly into position… I found it easy … first car had drums all round , front set - twin cylinders..

Aren't mot retests free? In Stockport we have mot stations open on Saturday and Sunday. Didn't you order handbrake cables but I didn't see you fit them? Do you get a refund for parts you don't use? Finally I prefer rear discs with a mechanical handbrake operating shoes rather than rear drum brakes. If I ever replace shoes I always replace slave cylinders. First time I didn't I was driving round France after replacing rear shoes and both slave cylinders started to leak. 1000 miles with no proper brakes
The retest is free if it's within 2 weeks I think, we don't have any open here on a Sunday, you might find somwhere early on a Saturday but it was late on when I'd finished. Yeah I sent the cables back as they weren't needed, propper drums need the slave cylinder as that's the brake too as well as the handbrake, modern cars like this have the caliper and disc as the brake and the handbrake is purley for parking

Had a Qashqai for 11 years. The wishbones are made from chocolate as they have to be replaced every two years. The nearside handbrake cable always fails too at the joint where it branches into the rear wheel hub. The subframes should be treated to prevent corrosion or else they will rust away. The engine is bullet proof though as mine had over 400,000 on it when I got rid of it.

What a nice gesture of your guys doing this I knew old couple car failed mot on emmisions garage said need new catalytic convertor so had work done new catalytic convertor put car straight back for mot failed again told old couple sorry needed more work to get mot 470pounds later they decided get ride of car garage mechanic offered them 50quid for car
That's terrible! If the garage who did the mot said it needed a cat then it should be on them to fix it and get through the mot, sounds like they just guessed
I have two points: 1- You didn't finish the story, did it pass on the Monday? and 2- Any apprentice that goes out to get parts, and comes back with the parts AND a McD lunch is a keeper!
