I got excited when he said it was a 106 Rallye, I got even more excited when you pointed out the Clio Trophy and additional rally car 106, and my jaw hit the floor at 6:00 when the Clio 200RS was discovered! There are such fun little cars, all of them. I miss my Clio 197 every single day and totally intend on buying a 200 when the right one comes along.

Bought my son a lovely immaculate light metallic blue 106 as his first car. Within the first 2 hours of being let loose he binned it . Recovered it, needed bonnet, front wing, door and rear hatch door (rear wing was ok, for some reason). Saw one in a scrap yard 80 miles away the same colour, shoved all the bits in my bmw touring and fitted them next day. Cars were simpler back then.

I had a light blue 1.1 facelifted 106 as my first car. I changed a gearbox with my dad and my mate in an afternoon, I changed a wishbone in it at 17 in an afternoon, and we did a couple of other things to it that were so easy to do I've forgotten about it. I kept it for a while and then dug it back out to use at uni, but sadly the head gasket failed shortly after. Sad day, sending that to scrap, I liked that car and if I had the space and the money I'd have kept it and rebuilt it

For those of us raised on hot hatches, the 106 Rallye and Clio Trophy are high points a few years apart. I've not driven either, but I did have a rental 106 (late model 1.1 I think) and owned two Clios (91 1.1 RN, 98 1.2 RT, steady yourselves!) and they were, even in cooking/warming form, so much better than than the competition. I watched this film in awe as they were revealed (I'll gloss over the Clio 200* as the Fiesta ST was better) but otherwise... Thank you @jonnycarpervert and team for another great film

Quick tip if you have a car which has been standing, and has seized injectors. With the pump running, briefly kink the return line to block it. This will increase the pressure at the injectors a lot. I recently worked for me on a VW T3 2.1 Wasserboxer engine where all the injectors were stuck.
Also, on engines which have a fuel feed and return, identify which is which by looking for the one which connects to the regulator. It's the return. The feed goes directly to the injectors. first, and then to the regulator.

The homologation plaque seems to list the national type approval numbers (which is why I suppose they used the letter “n”) for road cars, these were still used in the beginning of 1990s until european type approval scheme took over. And to be super pedantic, the first one on the list is actually Germany, RFA = République Fédérale d’Allemagne, with ABE-number (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis) F888. I’ll get me anorak now.

Sadly when I bought it in 98 the original Michelin steels were long gone and had been replaced by TSW evo’s which I ended up replacing with Antera Valbrem 941’s. I wish I could have that car back. Wow this takes me back. I bought a red 106 Rallye brand new in 1994 from the Peugeot dealer in Bletchley. I was only 18 and it even came with a years free insurance. I think it did have a stereo, but just two speakers (front). Amazing car, wish I still had mine.

There was a white 106 Rallye for sale at the Ford garage I worked at summer 1997. I loved it and got to drive it once - what a thing! ❤️

This brings back memories, used to walk through the carpark at winchester train station going to and from school in the early 90s and we'd always spot the latest regs. Would be some awesome cars parked there, first time i saw an Impreza being the core memory but seeing M reg cars atill sticks in my mind too. Failry certain there was a black one of these with those white wheels ans red belts.

Jonny, you must never leave the coil or any one lead open while cranking with ignition on. It will cause voltage to rise way higher than designed and the result of that is frequently internal coil winding insulation break down and coil failure. Always place the lead end near but not touching a ground. That leaves the coil working normally and prevents damage.

I was a massive fan of 90s FWD French cars 😎 the best fun u could have going sideways with lift off oversteer ….although the Honda CRx was pretty good too 😂
I’m assuming it works with car injectors too but in the past with motorcycles that wouldn’t start u put a power supply to the injector and on / off for a second or so repeatedly and it will free the injector up , u can here the click when it does, obviously as ur cranking the power is only for nanoseconds and I’ve found they won’t free up but the above method seems to work 👌

Brings back tremendous memories of my black Rallye (N613UJB) in the mid-90's. My bestie in his Saxo VTS too chasing each other around the Berkshire lanes. Lift-off oversteer and cocking a back wheel on tight roundabouts. I need one again.

Really interesting that Gordon says they are cheap cars 'not even worth £20k'. The lowest mileage Clio Trophy has double the miles and is 19k and a S1 Rallye for 15k with over 130k miles. Great video with some awesome French hot hatches

Cool episode! Prob my favourite so far. Own a white '94 with 93k kilometers myself. Will never sell, this is my 4th one. Happy that you didn't wash this one. You wouldn't do it any favors adding a lot of moisture to a car that's sitting in a nice dry environment without any mold.

I owned a 106 Rallye phase 2 for a number of years, it's probably the car I most regret getting rid of. Light weight, revvy engine, and a wheel at each corner. Brilliant car, really.
Mine also had the fuel pump die, so I have to wonder if they didn't bother upgrading or replacing it from phase 1 to phase 2 models!
