Next video: our friends at Febi Bilstien and TireStreets UK have sent us these amazing parts, Tom Lenthal will install them and then we're taking both bikes to the Nurburgring
I love the fact this channel isn't automotive, two mates who took a risk and now spend their days making awesome content and lifelong memories. Im here for it.
Totally agree… UA-cam is saturated with automotive content, be it factual, instructive or fun and lighthearted. The lads are braving it by going a completely different direction, and going a bit wacky. Just hope they can keep coming up with ideas for very watchable content.
Most good content is only truly good because of those presenting it. These two are the proof of it. I could watch them run all sorts of channels and as long as they enjoyed making it I think the viewers would all enjoy it. Sorry to say TDC has overtaken autoalex for me in terms of which I enjoy more, those two are just great to watch together.
A little context on the bikes in the canals. The canals are where we grow our bikes. That's why there are more bikes than people. They are slowy replacing us.
Jeffery hoogland is a proper catch for this video!! Also that Peugeot would’ve been a lot of people’s dream bike when it was new, that was a good find…. Apart from the years of neglect since then
Easily restored tho. If you don't mind swapping to non original parts. I have an old mid 80ish steel roadies (idk what brand it is as the logo plate was corroded) that I modernised, sort of. And it's still a nice ride around the city, bar some really steep hilly routes.
The Peugeots are just a bit too flimsy for Dutch use, surprise it made it this long at all. A proper Dutch bike from that era will still be fine with the least bit of maintenance done, but those are heavy in the dunes.
Lads you walked for 24 hours, you then cycled 90km, you know what comes next. Enjoy your swim across the channel to complete the triathlon of bad decisions🏊
As a Dutchman, I approve this video. (Oh and the street value of those bikes is about 40€, but in shops around the center of Amsterdam you pay at least double, esp. non natives).
Even in thrift shops a city over, the prices are like this. 75 for a basic omafiets, 100-125 for something decent. But you get warranty. Cheap bikes are bought via friends and online. Plenty of bikes to be had for 25-50 euro.
Also depends on the region and how quick you are and how willing to fix something. Cool bikes in good condition with a flat tire, or a rusty chain, or one working brake can all be had for ~40.
As a Dutch person. I am impressed with both of you. We use 2nd hand bikes to commute 20min not long rides like that. The mental strength is impressive 😮
These boys do a lot better than TDC. I wouldn’t compare these two channels. TDC just buy scrap cars, slap on some sponsored parts and then abandone them as no one would buy them in that state.
I’ll be honest, when you announced you had left CT to do travel/camping content, I was disappointed but this is now my fav channel in the AA multiverse, your content slaps every time with genuine laughs and relatable videos, love it lads! Thanks so much ❤
That 70's Peugeot bike is actually pretty nice! Shame that it does not have it's original gears. Although a lot of people do convert it to a single gear.
This was just great! Please don't throw that Peugeot away! I suggest Ethan buys a british bicycle such as a Raleigh, Dawes from the 70's or so and collaborate with @BikeItUK to help you guys fixing it (and add gears in the case of Jack's 🤣) and then maybe do a round like London to Scotland or something. Add some racks if you need, some tents. I'd love to watch that!
Also! If you follow this idea, I'd try to look for some cheap Reynolds 531 frame you can find on marketplace, thank me later. Plus, I'd like to see that without a time lenght in urge. I think I am not the only one who thinks your videos are great but I hate it when they are over and with that, I think the idea of putting a lenght of time to complete the challenges so often, really cuts the vibe of two lads enjoying different experiences. In summary, I'd like to watch longer videos or even part 1 and 2 :)
This may very well be the greatest suspense adventure story ever told. As a long distance cyclist, this was f@cking proud and brilliant. I spit up my beer laughing, thank you both. Keep those bikes forever.
Having ridden that stretch between Noordwijk and the Hague a few times, you guys got super lucky with the weather! When it gets windy it can be a real nightmare to ride along the coast! Was fun to see you ride virtually past my house as well🤩
What a great channel this is turning into 👏 completely different direction to the other car throttle guys, and it works perfectly with both your personalities 😁 not one video has been less than 10/10 effort either.
Lads, what do you mean don't put bikes into the canal? That's their natural habitat Every year, they swim up from the Atlantic and breed in those canals. All the bikes you see are locally sourced, and fished from those very canals.
I love seeing these dumb challenges! Stripping stuff back to basics in a world of over the top sponsored content is refreshing and so much more relatable and achievable. With regards to the bikes, I've been riding mainly single speed bikes for years. The first half a dozen rides on one after being used to gears it sucks, then one day it clicks and suddenly it all makes sense. The best way I can describe it is that now you aim for a constant pressure on the pedals, and pace yourself the same way you would if you were walking up a long staircase. I like it for the flow state, and for the weird looks I get, and for the fact that I get free badass points, so even if I'm slow people still think I'm kinda hardcore. And yes sometimes it's too steep and I have to get off and walk, but by that point anyone still riding their bike is going slower than I can hike anyway! The Netherlands is ideal single speed terrain, and I actually went to the European single speed mountain bike championships there once, where I was overtaken up a hill by a man in a cardboard Optimus Prime costume.
How exactly did that conversation go down? "Hey Mr. double Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist, would you like to review a couple of old €100 bikes on UA-cam?" "...Sure!"

But this instead of the hook of holland ferry, you take the dover to calais route and ride that journey. I recently did a 24h race from Vlissingen to Den Helder, which followed a large portion of your route between Zandvoort and Hoek van Holland, although in the opposite direction. It's great to see what the route through the dunes looks like in daylight, beautiful! We also passed a deer at only a couple of meters on the path you did your drag race on, only realising it was a deer seconds after.

Another great vid 🙂Love this channel guys. Keep going with the random style. It's the pair of you that we come here for so you can do what you want and we'd still love it 🙂
for zipping around my city in eastern Nebraska, i use a 1983 roadbike very similar to the Peugeot Jack rode. it still has its original 10 gears, and i put on a really good saddle that is very comfortable for longer rides. it's very light, and i comfortably cruise on flat roads at about 30mph while in the saddle, and can go a bit quicker if im standing hard on the pedals. on those bikes, it's all about the GEARS! (i also use a really nice set of continental bike tires that run about 80psi, so they have almost zero rolling resistance, even with my 210 pound body pushing them into the roadway)
Cracking video and idea... BUT why didn't you also cycle back to AutoAlex HQ when back in England... Top Gear style as a race - that would make for some excellent content! :)
Do a bike ride in Switzerland. My suggestion rent bikes in Lauterbrunnen from “Imboden bike rental” get the overnight option. Ride lauterbrunnnen to Interlaken, then to Iseltwald, then to Meiringen, then to Brienz, then back to Interlaken, catch bus/train to Lauterbrunnen if you staying there
On the ride across the shore, you must have passed by the town i grew up in, Monster. We used to ride that bikepath across the dunes all the time. I vividly remember getting my first bike with gears as a teenager and gosh....that made a world of difference on that up and down, up and down path! It is a lovely, lovely path to bike through and enjoy the scenery....when you aren't in a rush.
I once cycled back to the UK from Malmo with a bunch of friends (two of whom "commandeered" bikes). Took us 7 days of leisurely cycling. We did get caught up in Amsterdam for an extra day. For relaxation purposes of course.
This channels arc is quite a thing: "Japan! Iceland!" Ethan and Jack: Yay!!! The next 6 months: Noooooo! Are we sure they're not victims of exploitation??
Great video lads! Please keep in mind that it is very important to stay hydrated when cycling (drink every 5-7km), because you constantly loosing fluid through sweat and your joints are under more load than usual so it does need fluid like engine does need oil. Also there is infinite number of parts for bikes these days, so you can modify them to your liking, that could be nice video too.
I own 5 different bikes: E-Bike (Trekking), Vintage Racebike, MTB, fatbike and a fixie (or Singlespeed, depends on how it's set up). The cheap af fixie is by far my favorite. It's quick, nimble and gets me from a to b reliably and requires 0 maintenance. Best bang for your buck IMO.
You guys are legends, Alex splurges on a Porsche, then gets you guys to do zero cost videos, which are very entertaining. Keep up the very fine content.
You people keep surprising me TIME AND TIME AGAIN, the content is just gold. I used to have a Jaguar bike, sadly it was stolen as they couldnt take it that i had a jaguar (they broke it really badly)

Jack's bike literally had all *the* gear
😂 Brilliant
Never thought I would see my home town in one of you're video's! Haha 12:58 Hillegom .
Keep it going guys!!

Today, we have to find somewhere to live for the next year, for free, because we haven't had the budget to pay our rent and mortgages

Asking a track bike expert who sits on a razor blade saddle for an opinion for common cheap bike is like having a bacon sandwich without the bacon 😂😂😂
I am enjoying these physical challenges you come up with keep the great content coming
I would love to be a fly on the wall for a ATG content meeting
As long as you've not landed on the dartboard they use to come up with their ideas!
