This band rocks, This album is great, The musicians and singer are phenomenal and it is a crying shame that Audley Freed is not as well known as the Joe Satrianis and Steve Vais of the world because the guy is simply one of the very best guitar players one could hope to hear.
I was a fan of them with this album when it came out. Kelly had an amazing voice. Sad that he sings with the angels now. The rest of the band were also so talented. I love this album and continue to listen to them at 49. 😉
Saw them at CB'S Cafe in the Old City, Knoxville, Tn....Dec. '92!....such an awesome band! Screaming Cheetah Wheelies opened up for them.....they put them in the corner of the room and they both sounded incredible ! The admission price was bring a toy unwrapped for The Marines " Toys For Tots" can never forget that!
By the way I was born in Muscle Shoals,Alabama. These were STARS.God bless them. They inspire me whenever I listen to them boys.Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
these guys rocked in wilmington,n.c. i can remember them playing at the mad monk and bringin the house down ! it looks like parts of this video was at the monk, what an awesome group of guys!
Funny. I rented a little house back in 1994 and it just so happened that the entire Cry of Love band lived next door. It was just before there finally hit it big. I got to know the entire band really well. We had a cookout when they interview was broadcasted nationwide. I watched their dog and took in their mail when they left for a couple months to open for Robert Plant (yes, THAT Robert Plant) in a European Tour. The lead singer Kelly and I became close friends. Although, I was pissed when I first moved in that this band kept me up at night practicing, I am glad that i had the pleasure of that experience. The 2 lead guitarists went on the form the Gin Blossoms. RIP Kelly. Sad to hear you passed away. Glad to see to the amazing music you guys wrote lives on...
Wrong. No members from this band were in Gin Blossoms. Doug Hopkins and Jesse Valenzuela were the original founding guitarists of Gin Blossoms, and Doug committed suicide in December of 1993. Also, Gin Blossoms are from Tempe, AZ and this band was from North Carolina.
My dad had an old 78 bronco he would blast this so loud when I was a young kid and my brother and I would jam so hard on drives with dad hahaha gives me goosebumps I have em all memorized
This lead singer was America's Bonn Scott. Please don't get mad at me .These guys are in their own Alabama League.Way ahead of their time.I bought yalls cd.I sing these songs driving down the road when I need some American Indian Magic. These boys were treated bad by the music industry. They were fantastic, rock blues and soul, damn it boy.Tommy Brown
Brought here by a chance phrase I heard today. I was left thinking, where have I heard that before - Too cold in the winter? It stuck in my mind and I knew it was from a song in my past. Searched it and here I am. Now I'm off to go find my CD of this album. I know it's in my stuff somewhere..🤔
You got that right🎶 E. Perkins. I remember when this album hit. We would go see these cool Kats down at Detroits Harpos venue. Different times and one of the better Bands during that cool era✔
Greatest band that nobody ever heard of, and it’s a shame. I bought brother shortly after it came out and have always loved it. I just started listening to diamonds and debris and I can’t believe how good that is. Little bit of a delay there because I felt so spoiled with Kelly. But his replacement was awesome as well.
I've loved this band since they emerged. I love both albums and both singers are awesome by their own right!! Come back you guys! I'll sing for you if you need a singer!
No doubt! I feel the same Chad, I had the pleasure of meeting Kelly Holland and Audley Freed, when they played at a small club in Omaha, Ne, back in July of '94. Very cool, down to earth dudes! They were gracious enough to take the time, to let this chick, have their autograph! (still got it!) I was so blown away by their one of a kind sound, I just wanted to tell them how kick ass they were! and in light of just hearing recently that Kelly had passed away, I'm glad I got that chance. Still shocked and saddened over the news, I was always hoping that one day the band would get back together. Another band that opened up for C.O.L. The Mother Station, who were equally talented in their own right, and had a hit with their song "put the blame on me" maybe you've heard of them? the lead singer, Susan Marshall, had a powerful voice like Janis Joplin! but, was way above and beyond! And, that band suffered the same unfortunate fate as Cry of Love! Un-freaki'n believable how the music industry, or mismanagement or whatever, caused both of these very talented bands not to be given the recognition and status they so rightly deserved!
I still listen to Sugarcane all the time . That song alone should of broke these guys to radio and video . I used to take my CD covers and put them side by side filing up a 36x24 poster frame . Come out really cool . I’m 44 and still have them in my garage . See the Diamonds and Debris Cover all the time , Fire up Sugarcane
Saw them support a Robert Plant in the UK ... they were fucking brilliant.. Audley Freed was superb, been a fan of his ever since. Deserved to be huge, it’s incredibly sad how such great bands can miss the bus.
Only thing I can figure is the Robinson brothers looked and acted more like characters so they were more marketable on TV, where Cry Of Love just looked like a rock band.
There is a bunch of stuff that I was exposed to that I never knew the name of song wise. I'd love to hear those tracks you mentioned, I'm sure it would bring back a lot of memories.
There a brief moment in the music history of the 90's where it hadn't been decided yet who'll be the internationally recognised music star of the generation. Too bad the race between Cry of Love and Nirvana had been won by the latter. IMO Cry of Love played more valuable, complex music. Of course my comparison concerns only the musical potential the bands had, not the type of music they played.
A cross between Paul Roger and Steve Marriott. Freed never really got a chance to do much on the Crows studio albums. Thhink only three songs on Lions.
@jimirymodestoca well i know Jason Patterson very well, ive never really asked him about his time with cry of love but the next time i see him ill bring it up and see what he has to say about Kelly, hes always been a kind hearted great guy and wont be biased im sure
Actually there was a guy named Pee Wee Watson prior to Kelly. But Kelly was the vocalist on their first recorded album (Brother). Once he left they had a long search for a replacement which became Robert (Diamonds and Debris).
Yeah the music industry what can I say they take great bands like this and they say that's not what we want the people to listen to so they pick and choose what the people are going to listen to they market it they sell it and they shove it down our f****** throats That's what they do music been like that for years now you got the s*** we listen to country stations b******* there's some good rock and roll acts out there it's still played good rock but the music industry doesn't push it you have to look for it I find most of my good music on UA-cam believe it or not damn sure don't plan it on the radio you got the classic rock stations that play the same old s*** at the same time everyday and they pick what they want to play making the old days
@@ToploadedGaming I like how I'm just seeing this reply now... But yeah, Billy has/had a very distinctive voice, and I don't mean this comparison as a snub. It's a shame these tunes have gone from the latest jam to "oh wow! It's been awhile!"
To all my fellow CoL lovers out there - do yourself a favor and sample Sean Manning & Paul Rafferty - 'The Exiles' www.muziekweb.nl/en/Link/JK83979/The-exiles. Another absolute gem in the same vein - only way more obscure than 'Brother' due to its very limited release. Copies can be found on Amazon and Discogs.
@dgn4369 this isn't Robert Mason, it's Kelly Holland. There is a HUGE difference in both vocalists. I think K. Holland is far better suited to this sound and band.
Just a brilliant band. Right up there with the best. Love them, listen to them all the time.
Amen !!
Great singer and amazing guitarist I bought this cd the year it came out I still jam it
Kelly Holland, miss your voice. These guys had The Magic. I’m so glad I got to see them live a few times.
Kelly was a very talented singer
This band rocks, This album is great, The musicians and singer are phenomenal and it is a crying shame that Audley Freed is not as well known as the Joe Satrianis and Steve Vais of the world because the guy is simply one of the very best guitar players one could hope to hear.
What a great band, I am 63 years old why have I not ever heard of these guys before. They are freaking awesome
cry of Love one of my favorite of all time. I remember hearing them on the radio when I was 19. I'm 44 and still listening to them
Spring Museum I'm 45 still listing!
I was a fan of them with this album when it came out. Kelly had an amazing voice. Sad that he sings with the angels now.
The rest of the band were also so talented.

Most amazing album ever.
also check out Riverdogs /ST , ...might be your second best album mate
This is such an amazing album! 🤙
Agreed. I discovered these guys during a stint with the carnival when Peace Pipe was released to the airwaves. Every song is a banger!
I thought these guys would be around for a long time! Now THIS was a GREAT album!!!
By the way I was born in Muscle Shoals,Alabama. These were STARS.God bless them. They inspire me whenever I listen to them boys.Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Audley Freed is a goddamn musical genius
if this guys would've appeared in the 70's at this times they probably would've been rock icons.
these guys rocked in wilmington,n.c. i can remember them playing at the mad monk and bringin the house down ! it looks like parts of this video was at the monk, what an awesome group of guys!

Ideal for a winter time, I like Cry of Love.
RIP Kelly Holland

Killer tune by a killer band!!!!!!!!!!!
Bought the CD one day before my Birthday Jan 1993 two weeks after Brother's release.
One of my best buys ever.

It was a great day, when I got JP, the drummer, to play my drums at my house, I am just a hack, Jason is excellent.
You got that right🎶 E. Perkins. I remember when this album hit. We would go see these cool Kats down at Detroits Harpos venue. Different times and one of the better Bands during that cool era✔
AWESOME
That lick at 1:34 is just nuts
I know!! Random chicken picking in a rock banger. Love it.

Great tune, one of my favorites!!!
I LOOOOVE THESE GUYS !!!!!!
I first heard this on a compilation cd which came with an issue of Vox magazine. Blew my mind!
Glad this popped up on my youtube out of nowhere! Hey Jason! Can't wait to see you and either one of your present bands play here in Eastern N.C.
i just bought this CD it totally amazed me
Awesome good old rock'n'roll!
I've loved this band since they emerged. I love both albums and both singers are awesome by their own right!! Come back you guys! I'll sing for you if you need a singer!
Love the LP Bass! One of the best necks to ever hold four strings.
saw them at the tivoli venue in buckley ,north wales, u.k. - jaw dropping !! - man were we lucky !!
RIP BROTHER
What a truly awesome sound, good old rock n roll. Not even close to the shit played today.
J.P., heard Nantucket has pretty much retired from playing. I know you are still jamming with Tuesdays Gone, I hope. Love the shows!
Amazing live band, seen them at Buckley Tivolli and at Donington MoR
So under rated it makes me sick
Indeed, this is one of my favourite bands and hardly anybody has ever heard of them.
No doubt! I feel the same Chad, I had the pleasure of meeting Kelly Holland and Audley Freed, when they played at a small club in Omaha, Ne, back in July of '94. Very cool, down to earth dudes! Jefferson Coad R.I.P. Kelly Holland, Gone far too soon, but, never forgotten.- Both comments from Janice, not Jefferson Coad!
Talent all through the band
Same, Bro..Same...The "industry" of music is one fucked up entity
RIP Kelly wish another album could be made
me too he was a great vocalist
Our radio station in duluth mn this group was a go for launch all afternoon long brother cane too

Good stuff.
Very cool band
Old song, but it's cool,. Awesome
Cry of Love,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Rocks,,,nuff said
Need to get these guys and the black crows on the same stage.
Lead singer Kelly Holland died in 2014. Guitarist Audley Freed did play in the Black Crowes and now plays for Sheryl Crowe
Sorry ,I didn't know, these guy should have been a lot bigger.
Still great after all these years.
Saw them support a Robert Plant in the UK ... they were fucking brilliant.. Audley Freed was superb, been a fan of his ever since. Deserved to be huge, it’s incredibly sad how such great bands can miss the bus.
In this case the bus missed them.
This much snow in NC 20 yrs ago? Welcome to Finland any winter. The song remains so cooooooool...
RiP Kelly---Texas Hippie Coalition and Clutch would be a awesome show..My dad turned me on to Cry of Love, awesome music
I never understood why the Black crows took off as big as they did and yet these guys couldn't get any air play. Far superior band, In my opinion.
Only thing I can figure is the Robinson brothers looked and acted more like characters so they were more marketable on TV, where Cry Of Love just looked like a rock band.
Also, didn't one of them go out or marry Goldie Hawn's daughter? That's gotta help with the fame you'd think? @@kevinjokipii4260

I'd listen to this over Black crowds all day. Great stuff. Never heard of them back in the day, sadly 🤣
Tell me this dude wouldnt have SWEPT IDOL OR WHO GOT TALENT OR ANY OF THEM!! My God what a voice
Excellent pitch.👍🏻
Modern day grand funk, free with a mix of Black Crowes, stevie ray
But with their own brilliant sound
ALMOST A FREE SOUND GOING ON SWEET!!!!!
Reminds me of old times.. gr8 song..
Hell Yeah!
Great tune
omg seen this band at Harpos!! they ROCKED!!!
I got drunk with these guys back in the 90’s. It was a blast
good shit. sounds like the crows haha
seen them in Toronto, they were heavy!
This song effin' rocks. Hell, all of Brother rocks. Too bad this line up didn't make more music.
very good topic
im only 13 but i love this band
So so good. Audey is so underrated it's a travesty..
How have i never seen this video before?
His voice on this song sounds like a hybrid of Paul Rogers and Steve Marriot...not a bad mix.

How about we get these guys close to Roanoke, VA for a show---bring Clutch
Actually there was a guy named Pee Wee Watson prior to Kelly. But Kelly was the vocalist on their first recorded album (Brother). Once he left they had a long search for a replacement which became Robert (Diamonds and Debris).
R.I.P. Kelly......
They sound like noone else, maybe a little influenced by the early Black Crowes.....greetings from Germanistan
what happen to u guys..god u were flipping awesome
@carysatch yea ive noticed it, but its fixed pretty well after a few seconds haha
RIP Kelly
@jimirymodestoca lol no prob man, i listen to all types of music
@HUMBLPI3 Thank god you got that. So what? If you have any other Free clones please tell me. After 40 yrs haven't heard decent ones.
SHIT!!! This video looks cold!

Snow in NC? Today it's true
When I was younger, I thought this was Billy Squier fronting a new band!
Dude sounds like Billy Squire all day yes. And that’s a compliment.

1991 to 1995 were such great years for rock music. Then everything went to shit.
So weird watching Audley in these gibson vids these days😅
Someone has the lyric of this song?

Is this Dirty Honey? lol
I wouldn't be surprised if DH was influenced by CoL, among other bands.
@MsBillysunday I don't see anyone in this band that has a mullet!
I'm not growing a mullet though...lol.
Check out my band playing "Hand Me Down".
Fucking Hey...
