This band was one of the most tragically overlooked bands ever!!! What a wonderful treasure they were and never gained the success they so richly deserved…..still one of my favorite!!!
One of the best 90s bands ever that just did not get the credit that they deserved. Was it the focus on the Grunge Seattle sound that clouded such great music ? Damon Johnson's "Brother Cane" was another !
And Badlands, too. Those 3 bands got a raw deal because of grunge.Which is a shame because they were all good enough to take the world by storm and keep pure rock n roll alive.
@@venturamichael50Badlands is my second favorite band of all time, behind Led Zeppelin. As you so accurately said, these bands had talent and soul Far beyond the recognition they received.
I agree.Audley Freed is a great bluesy guitar player. This song makes me wish they would have gone further.thank you for the better audio version of this song
They drove straight through the grunge era with classic American rock and roll. Great drumming. Great bass. Great vocals. Great guitar. Great hooks and dynamics. Soulful and rockin'. Pure Americana.
Peaceman have you heard the second album Diamonds and Debris? Different singer but the album is really good. If you’ve heard it, disregard this message lol.
I loved this band the from the first moment I heard them...I mean Kelli had the vocals that went so smooth with their style.unbelievable. still to this day my favorite band..breaks my heart that we cant have more and more from this badass group .
I saw Cry of Love for the first time at CeeBees Cafe in the Old City part of Knoxville in ‘92… Big room at the downstairs of this place…. They were playing on a slightly raised platform in the corner of the room. Screaming Cheetah Wheelies opened for them…. Great music! No b.s. or “ pretty boy “ stuff. Both of them played and sounded fantastic!! Sorry that Kelly passed away. Great vocalist.
I personally vow to carry on this music. I will cycle this band in my shitty 78 Ford until it breaks and I'll buy another CD or 78 Ford, which ever comes first. I'll play these songs at my shows out of a tube amp with live vocals. I'm also drunk as fuck right now and I'll fucking fight you if you talk shit to me about this band.
Damn this is great, obviously. I remember when these guys steamrolled the radio in the early 90's. Should've been way, way bigger. I wish Audley Freed wasn't with that Crow woman, if'n he still is, I'm not a fan, but evidently a lot of people are, enough where he can make a comfortable living as a musician with her. Her singing is like nails on a chalkboard to me
Needle & The Spoon by Skynyrd almost note for note at the start. Like this track and wish they had released it but to say it was highly influenced by Skynyrd is being kind.....
Love this tune! Anyone out there know where I might find guitar tab / chords for this song. Not very good at figuring it out myself. Any help is greatly appreciated. THANX!
+James Mitchell Thanks James. Are there any more songs from this concert? I have a couple of bootlegs from Boston and California (I think). So sad Kelly's gone - a fantastic singer.

Badass band!
Agree both were great bands and I own their music Back when Cry Of Love came out I tried to turn as many people that I could on to them
@@venturamichael50Badlands is my second favorite band of all time, behind Led Zeppelin. As you so accurately said, these bands had talent and soul Far beyond the recognition they received.
Should've been one of biggest bands ever. They are the poster boy's for a band that had it all and for whatever reason didn't receive their due.
Hank Myrick Jr. I agree. I’m guessing the management.
When this album hit the airwaves,Seattle was king.No one was in the mood, which is a shame because this is one of the best rock albums of the 1990s.
what Michael said, plus Kelly quit, he didn't like the road.
@Hezekiah Mustafa they have concerts as movies? Everybody typed the same thing... red flag number 1. It's a pay site, red flag number 2.

Mercurial Mr Holland. Your passing hit me harder than those I thought I admired more. Your influence was deeper than I even realised. I miss you, sir
I had look up what Mercurial means.
Kelly HOLLAND is now the Broken Toy R.I.P. MY FRIEND Thank you for what you did to the NORTH CAROLINA music world.
What a Bad Ass Band! There's just not many bands that create and play this kind of kick ass music!
There were then though.Thats what sealed thier fate when grunge came along.

Rory Gallager /Skynyrd Love this band RIP Kelly Holland
They had the groove. When bubble gum and hip hop were burning up the charts they were a voice of reason.
They drove straight through the grunge era with classic American rock and roll. Great drumming. Great bass. Great vocals. Great guitar. Great hooks and dynamics. Soulful and rockin'. Pure Americana.
Kelly's band Sundog was good too!
Trippin' Blind
This group had the BEST vocalist.
Audley Freed ROCKS!

Shoulda put it on the cd 2017 remaster of Brother!!!!
Music at it's best❤❤
"I tried to be your hero, but I guess I'm not your drug of choice"
1993 in London...if this was at the Astoria i was there.....
If these guys had come along two decades earlier, they would have been rubbing elbows with the likes of Elton John in the Billboard charts.
Such a good song, such a good band, such a good guitar player.

I envy you!
I saw them at Newcastle Riverside with Kelly
They played the whole of their first album
And Broken Toy
And covered On The Hunt and Mini Skirt Minnie
I can hear me some Skynard deep cut tones in this one and I mean that strictly as a compliment.
Bass player became part of Skynrd tour lineup
A whole bunch of Skynyrd
Go listen to their cover of Skynyrd's "On the Hunt". Kicks ass!
Fortunate enough to have seen them do Skynyrd's On the Hunt, live at the Cotton Club in Atlanta back in the 90s. They were SO DAMN GOOD.
Miss pure rock

Kelly left us much much too soon.

I need the lyrics. I suppose I can figure them out myself but I'm to lazy. I love this song so much.
NVMND. Should have scrolled down before I asked.
I can't find lyrics either it wasn't on any album I know of
Kel's singing was so ...something I didn't catch all of it myself on some of the lyrics

Baby, baby
JANUARY BLUES
Sit by the fire, it's cold outside
Ain't nuthin else to do, oh no
Honey, honey
Whatcha gone and done
Winter it came along with the rain
But you've never seen the sun
No, I ain't no hero
But I ain't your whipping boy
Keep your name
I'll forget the same
I ain't no broken toy
Lonely, lonely
I'm the lonely one
You'll have a feed from all your seed
Rest from a deed that's done
No, I ain't no hero
But I ain't your whipping boy
Keep your name
I'll forget the same
I ain't no broken toy
*SOLO*
Rain was gone by Sunday
It's still cold as hell
Sit by the fire, call me a liar
It's your face in the well
Rain was gone by Sunday
But it got dark once more
Sit by the fire and call me a liar
Just like a broken toy
I tried to be your hero
But I guess I'm not your drug of choice
Carry on, been away too long
To be your broken toy
I ain't your broken toy...
migrantwing Second line in first verse is "January blues."
Ah! Yes, yes! Thank you, Bill Schaare
