Man thank you so much, this is the only video where I found the explanation of the output of that pedal. Great video!!!
I'm glad I was able to help!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Rich!! you did your thing in the video.
No problem! I really appreciate your words
Dude you're killing it! This video is being slept on for real!
Then don't forget to share it ;)
it sounds greate.
Absolutely fantastic!
Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it
awesome i have a mxr talkbox
It's such a great piece of gear!
Man, great video!!! Quite the instrument variety you can play! Keep up the great work, and you sold me on buying one of these pedals! :)
I hope you get tons of enjoyment from it!
Very well explainee video! I really loved the demos at the end too! I found this very informative. I just bought a talkbox and figured I could just use one of the preprogrammed sounds on there but its nice to know theres other options! For using the application through your computer did you have to prewrite the notes down and then talkbox along to them or did you get it so you could play it through your keyboard? Super interesting!
Thank You very much! I played it all live through the keyboard, though I don't see why it couldn't be used with prerecorded MIDI notes ran through the Talkbox
Nice look at the product! Thanks!
Im glad you enjoyed it!
Love your vibe and appreciate the video!
I'm glad you liked it!
Love it!
Thank you kindly!
Been a saxophonist since 1984, .guitarist since 1980, just purchased a Talkbox in December 2023- but I subscribed to this channel solely bcuz the host made good use of the old expression: “an’ you KNOW dats right!!”
Btw …what’s the band aid u r using on the “hose” near your mouth? To stabilize the tube from slipping out?
I've got old head parents so there's plenty of those phrases in my normal vocabulary. Also I think that band aid you're seeing is actually condensation from my breath because I've never wrapped anything around the tube lol
@@RichardAshbyMusic Thanks. I went on ahead and grabbed a band aid from the medicine shelf and tried it …and it actually does help to keep the tube from sliding out of my mouth while I’m recording and talk boxing …
so thanx for the un intentional help! And keep up the great work!
No day like new gear day! Ain’t that the truth!
You know it! I've been itching to get some more...hopefully coming soon lol
Damn! So great!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed
Great video my man, great performance too. Question - I've tried plugging the output from the TalkBox directly into a studio monitor but I get no sound from the monitor. Does the sound only come from the tube? Live setup means singing into the mic then? What's the point of the output if it does nothing?
I want to say that I’ve been thinking about this question for a week and a half straight. I’ve looked at the manual it straight up says “option” about plugging in the output. Turning off the pedal seems to function as a bypass to the amp. The only solution I could possibly come up with is maybe going from one pedal to an other through the output but I have no idea. The output jack is a complete mystery to me
Good video ! I can't make words with the tube in my mouth, I don't know how to do it
It takes a lot of practice to be able to get intelligible words out of the talkbox. What's helped me the most is really over-enunciating the consonant sounds which helps in clarity, also I've found varying amounts of success with lowering the volume of the talk box which could help the words come out clearer
I see, but it is normal that my voice is not modified by the talk box? I always have a normal voice and my voice is really not modified @@RichardAshbyMusic
@@merandjulien7153 how good you sound depends on the TONE and your ability to exaggerate the mouth. Basically practice and tweak the synth patch.
Dude. Your personality is fucking boss.
I really appreciate that! I've always been kinda insecure about it so that makes me feel a lot better!
Outstanding video. You're very talented. I have a question for you... is this the type of device that was used on the chorus of 2Pac's California Love?
Yes, it is! The Talkbox part in California Love was originally recorded by Roger Troutman who was the frontman for the band Zapp and the Talkbox was his signature sound
@@RichardAshbyMusic My question always was though, what talkbox did they use back then? Obviously we have the convenient MXR, but that obviously wasn't around back then. Did each artist literally build their own device? Or is there a vintage talkbox that I'm sleeping on?
@@TheAndkonmegalodon There's a few vintage ones but the Dunlop MXR is pretty much the modern standard (very affordable too).
@@TheAndkonmegalodonthe trick is they (Stevie wonder and zapp and Rodgers often used talk box in combination with vocoders to get their signature sound
it doesn't sound too bad to be fare.
with this method that you are using, you get to hear the sound out the talkbox, rather than an audio interface.
7:44 did you make the backing yourself
I did! I made the backings for all of the demo tracks :)
Hey! Do you have any recommendations for keyboards/synths to use with this talkbox? I've got one, and i've been wanting to mess around with it, but my cheap keyboard just cant cut it.
I'm actually in a very similar situation right now lol. I've always used the audio interface method to use the talk box but I wanted a dedicated synth. Most people will say an FM synth will be the best, namely the Yamaha DX 100 or any of the DX series for that matter. I'm not quite at the price point to get a DX series instrument so I was looking more towards something subtractive, MicroKorg or MiniNova were my top choices :)
is it possible to do a talkbox with a goxlr? I have a mpk mini akai keyboard, a mxr talk box and a goxlr. I use fl studios as well
I'm not very familiar with the GoXLR, but from my (admittedly brief) research it seems like it wouldn't work without some potentially complicated workaround as you need to have an output from the GoXLR that goes into the input of the Talkbox and from what I can see the GoXLR only has a 3.5mm headphone output rather than a 1/4 inch on the Talkbox so it may work if you had some sort of converter to make the 3.5mm a 1/4 inch but I'm honestly not sure how that would work realistically
@@RichardAshbyMusic YAH I was thinking getting a converter and splitting my headphones and the talkbox. Great tutorial eitherway! eitherway
If you do manage to get it to work let me know! I hope I'm wrong and you actually can use it for your Talkbox :)
if you have the Akai Mini Play, you should be able to run the talkbox straighte from it
You sound like you've been using it for years. Is it really that easy?
I wouldn't say easy nor would I say I'm that good lol. Like any instrument talk box requires practice but the general mechanics aren't that complicated, just mouth words and only say consonants. But there are many nuanced things you can do to improve your performance. My piano playing isn't good at all which is directly correlated to the talk box performance neither is the actual patch that I'm using but I'm slowly working on both of those and hopefully one day that effort will be tangible.
I have a regular digital piano called a alesis virtue. Will it be compatible?
In theory yes, but the virtue may not have a synth sound proper for using the talk box as you need a sound that's richer in harmonics to get clean vocals out of it
@@RichardAshbyMusic there is a synth on the piano but I don't know if it'll work because I don't want to get it and find out it doesn't work
How can I use it on te street as a busking?
If you use an external synth, and have a microphone connected to an amplifier you could, in theory, use it on the street for live performances
hello what is the pad vst instrument to use for i want to be your man please
The pad that I used was a Logic Pro X preset called "Classic Analog Pad" I use it quite often actually it sounds great and is a great utility pad!
So expensive!!
Honestly compared to some of the other talk boxes I've seen this is probably the beset valued machine from the bunch, I have seen cheaper ones on the market but I'm not as familiar with those so I cant give recommendations
your guitar jack is loose
If you’re talking about the nut around the jack it’s been loose for a long time but I don’t have/haven’t looked for the correct tool to tighten it but I’m sure i will one day 😂
