MXR TALKBOX - Too Much Fun For A Guitarist!

- In today's video, James and Paul look at the MXR TalkBox. This effect has been used on classic hits such a Bon Jovi's Living on a prayer etc. This unique effect uses a pedal that transmits a signal through a tube to your mouth to create this guitar effect.
Featuring a rugged chassis, controls for tone, volume, and gain plus the unit's own built-in speaker and amp driver, the MXR Talk Box pairs modern appointments with one of the guitar's most iconic effects. Heard on countless recordings ranging from Daft Punk to Frampton to Metallica, this pedal brings a completely new facet of expression to any board.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.
Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh 👍
Frampton - Do you feel like we do was the quintessential talk-box song IMO.
Paul's facial expressions are priceless! Made my day, thanks.
With practice you can form words rather than just wah wah wah wah as in Feel Like I Do by Peter Frampton who is an expert with the talk box. I use the MXR and as you guys said it is really great fun.
These talk boxes are really cool! Thanks.
I've had a Sebro Tubestation for years, I might have to dust it off and get my Bon Jovi on! Great video as always.
Cant forget Man in the Box 😎
First. Memories of Peter Frampton at Winterland in San Francisco multiple times back in the day. Nice way to start today! Cheers from California...
👊🏻
Hilarious and fun! Just programmed a patch on my Mobius where with the expression pedal you can sweep the Formant and sort of get there - for a quick bit in a song it can work, but you don't get the same facial expressions!
Too much fun!
Excellent, Jon bonjela 😂, missed a trick doing the wa wah waaah noise after one of the puns, 👍
Livin on a prayer was the famous one that uses talk box
Peter Frampton ..Show me the way . his most iconic use..and also sparkys magical piano old school talkbox sound , now the tricky part is to use it to talk through and make word vocal sounds which is quite tricky and demanding on your stomach muscles,,and quite an experience with 30- 100 watt tube amp suddenly being routed through your mouth and rattling the old teeth...great vids..rock on.peace.
I built myself one a few years ago using an HF driver from a PA system. It pushed a serious amount of air, I had to be careful not to damage my teeth 😬. Also, not a good look when the audience can see dribble going down the clear tube! Good fun though (in short bursts)
If anyone mentions a talkbox the first thing I think of is Peter Frampton.
How do you not know that?
Frampton comes alive use to come in the mail with samples of Tide.
No Joe Walsh? He was one of the first ever to use this on rocky mountain way. Get your references correct.
One of THE earliest users was Joe Walsh. Finally - I can get one!!!
Two more for you: Jeff Beck, She’s a Woman, Nazareth, Hair of the Dog. I can’t believe nobody mentioned Jeff Beck.
”Molar-friendly". Coined one there, James! Drool bucket attachment not included, I suppose…
Off topic; what tele are you playing! Dig it!
Don’t forget about Joe Perry…Sweet Emotion 😎🎸
James, don't feel weird about how you described using the talk box. No different than when I was talking about playing with my Johnson on the live stream.
🤣🤣🤣
Show me the way, not baby I love your way
Is there a video that actually shows how to set this thing up?
Peter Frampton comes alive….Do you feel like I do….
What guitar is that blue beauty?
Jambi. Adam Jones.
You're welcome.
Really cool. James, you’ve got to use more tongue for vibrato.
This is a family show David. 😀
Scorpions “the zoo” one of the best songs with the talk box. Long before Bon Jovi …
"this is a talkbox" (uses it as a wahbox)
A very fun video …Ooh err mrs…fner fner….
LOL!!!
It's better if I don't comment this. I best not. It's a cool sound. But yeah.... No😁
And yet you still did.
You should TALK..
