Hi Rachel.. I'm new to your channel and I love your videos, they are very informative. Anyway I have a question to ask. In applying to PGWP, you've mentioned that you can apply for it before your study permit expires. Does it mean that you can apply for it a month before you finish your program?
Hi dear, an excellent question. However, we must distinguish the two as they are separate occasions. The expiration of your study permit is one instance and the other is finishing your program. They are mutually exclusive and may have varying timelines. Take my case as an example: my study permit expires on Jan 2020 but my program ended on Oct 2019. Usually, IRCC gives you leeway to extend or change status in Canada. You can ONLY apply for a PGWP if you’ve completed your program. That means, you received your Official Transcript and Letter of Completion from the school. Usually, it’s BEFORE your study permit expires. Hence, you cannot apply for a PGWP if you are just near completion as that suggest not having completed your program. You need to wait for two 2 vital documents to submit a PGWP application. Hope this answers your question 💕👍

Based the tweet I read from IRCC, you can be self-employed while studying in Canada. As long as your study permit allows you to work - but keep to the Max 20 hours per week. Working from home for a company in another country doesn't count as working in Canada. The limitation of 20 hours doesn't apply. 👍

No restrictions on working after your get your PGWP! So you can work to your heart’s desire but I hope that it’s skilled enough to qualify for express entry or other PR programs 😊

Hello i need your advise on my PGWP refusal twice. My study permit expired on july 30th 2022 but i had applied for pgwp on may 13th 2022 but then I received refusal on sept 13th 2022 mentioning i wasnt a full time student then again on sept 28th 2022 i applied for pgwp and received refusal on 7th feb 2023 mentioning i wasnt a full time student and i was out of status which makes me ineligible for pgwp even though i had included my restoration fee in my second application. I was only given 6 months of PGWP based on the validity of my passport. I flew outside Canada to renew my passport but I couldn't return because of the locked down. my question is: How to apply for an extension of PGWP if I am outside Canada? Keep in mind that all the Canada visa application centers are closed in the country I live in and I can only apply online. It is clearly stated on the IRCC website that I must apply on paper for an extension. Also, my current PGWP is already expired.
Have you tried applying for a passport renewal from inside Canada? Aren’t there consulates or embassies that can assist you in that matter? 😊 once you renew from within Canada, you can apply for an extension to get the full length of your PGWP And maximize building skilled work experience here in Canada 🇨🇦

IRCC policies to the visa officer states that a 2 year program "should lead to" a 3 year PGWP. So, at the end of the day, the visa officer has discretion to grant you the 3 years or not. However, it is rare that they don't.

If I am part time in schedule summer break but full time in all other regular semester will it effect my pgwp College said that it's ok because schedule break is not for purpose of work permit and study permit and part time status would not be counted. I will still be classified as full time student if i meet other criterias and my PGWP will not be refused if i am part time only in schedule breaks I am asking because no info is provided on ircc but different college websites have it like sfu, macmilian uni etc

You can apply for your pgwp now even with an expired Study permit until you find a job(work only after applying for pgwp) or get your documents from college within 180 days.
But it’s still ideal to apply for a PGWP before study permit expires since that is the requirement found on the IRCC website 😊 Better to be prompt than to worry Better to be safe than sorry 😊👍
If your spouse is applying for a study permit, you may be eligible to apply for an Open Work Permit. And take note, it’s part of the requirements to prove you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay 😅 all that must be explained in your SOP or letter of explanation..
Generally, those two are exclusive events from PGWP consideration. From my understanding, if you’re earning in CAD working for a CAD employer off-campus as a FT student- then you must abide by the 20 hour work week restriction. I’m not fully sure how it works but that’s an interesting question you posed.
What If I already passed my PGWP application and I am just waiting for the result. I am working full time and my SP and Off Campus WP expires while waiting for the PGWP decision? Do I have to do anything? Say apply for an extension of Off campus wp? TIA
As per IRCC website, you can remain in Canada on implied status and continue working while waiting for a decision on your PGWP application - even if your study permit has expired :) As long as you submitted a PGWP while holding a valid study permit- you can work full time until a decision is made on your PGWP. Hello i need your advise on my PGWP refusal twice. My study permit expired on july 30th 2022 but i had applied for pgwp on may 13th 2022 but then I received refusal on sept 13th 2022 mentioning i wasnt a full time student then again on sept 28th 2022 i applied for pgwp and received refusal on 7th feb 2023 mentioning i wasnt a full time student and i was out of status which makes me ineligible for pgwp even though i had included my restoration fee in my second application. Urgent help and since i cant afford consultation i need advise that i can follow on my own.

I was only given 6 months of PGWP based on the validity of my passport. I flew outside Canada to renew my passport but I couldn't return because of the locked down. my question is: How to apply for an extension of PGWP if I am outside Canada? Keep in mind that all the Canada visa application centers are closed in the country I live in and I can only apply online. It is clearly stated on the IRCC website that I must apply on paper for an extension. Also, my current PGWP is already expired.
Have you tried applying for a passport renewal from inside Canada? Aren’t there consulates or embassies that can assist you in that matter? 😊 once you renew from within Canada, you can apply for an extension to get the full length of your PGWP And maximize building skilled work experience here in Canada 🇨🇦

Hi. Thanks for sharing this. Have a question on PGWP. it is often mentioned that a 2yr program will give you "up to 3yrs" PGWP. Is it a given that the duration is 3 yrs or is it still dependent on ircc? Thanks!
IRCC policies to the visa officer states that a 2 year program "should lead to" a 3 year PGWP. So, at the end of the day, the visa officer has discretion to grant you the 3 years or not.
However, it is rare that they don't.

Your question is a bit confusing. Can you please restate it? Are you asking if you finished your program before your study permit expires or if you finished your program AFTER your study permit expires.

If I am part time in schedule summer break but full time in all other regular semester will it effect my pgwp
College said that it's ok because schedule break is not for purpose of work permit and study permit and part time status would not be counted. I will still be classified as full time student if i meet other criterias and my PGWP will not be refused if i am part time only in schedule breaks

My semester was online due to COVID and I took it while being inside Canada. However, at the last day of my class I returned to my home country and gave my exams from my home country and I’m coming back a week before commencement of my next semester. Hi Rachel, how about studying a 2-year program in a DLI-public college that offers online asynchronous (OA) and online and face to face(OF).If i choose online asynchronous/pure online/OA 2 courses while 3 courses are OF, will this affect my pgwp eligibility up to what extent?
There maybe some issues that will impact your PGWP eligibility and the length of your PGWP.

You can apply for your pgwp now even with an expired Study permit until you find a job(work only after applying for pgwp) or get your documents from college within 180 days.
But it’s still ideal to apply for a PGWP before study permit expires since that is the requirement found on the IRCC website 😊

If your spouse is applying for a study permit, you may be eligible to apply for an Open Work Permit.
And take note, it’s part of the requirements to prove you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay 😅 all that must be explained in your SOP or letter of explanation..

Generally, those two are exclusive events from PGWP consideration.
From my understanding, if you’re earning in CAD working for a CAD employer off-campus as a FT student- then you must abide by the 20 hour work week restriction. I’m not fully sure how it works but that’s an interesting question you posed.

As per IRCC website, you can remain in Canada on implied status and continue working while waiting for a decision on your PGWP application - even if your study permit has expired :)
As long as you submitted a PGWP while holding a valid study permit- you can work full time until a decision is made on your PGWP. Hope that helps!
