Really good insights about the changes to the international student program. Looking at the glass half full is really the best way. Yes the changes may seem hard for people wanting to come here but at the end it would for sure cause improvements in the program and give better quality.
Some people only come as a student to come to Canada and do not do their part as a student but put the burden on getting the course work done by those really genuine students who have to take on the majority of the work.

I love your positive and realistic view to the changes. Indeed, if they’ll only admit 500,000 new PR per year but 800,000 study visas are approved then we see that the maths don’t add up ( if you get what I mean).
It’s absolutely necessary for students to be fully prepared because part time jobs are to be used as supplements and in some cities students are finding it difficult to find jobs now.
2 years gives prospective students more time to plan.

In term of student cap, Federal government will count based on the density of population / student in each province. It means, the cap policy will have big impact to some provinces but not others.
And also I believe Canada will still emphasize on the diversity of students. It means, the cap policy will have a big impact to some students from some countries.

As a student, I have two more subjects to complete before I graduate from my DBA degree. There is a guideline that prohibits students from working a full-time job during their final term of summer classes. I therefore have no intention of attending summer classes as I intend to file a BC PNP by April. But, if I enroll in summer classes, my job will become part-time, and I'm concerned that this could have an impact on the status of my application. In addition, I worry that if I enroll in September to complete my education, there won't be enough time for the BC PNP and PR apps. If I enroll in September, I won't be able to work full-time either, therefore my employment will also become part-time. Is there any other way to ensure that neither my DBA program nor my BC PNP/PR application will be impacted? Or could I switch my program to a certificate so that I may already finish this term and not worry about anything? May I ask if what would be the best course of action on this matter? Thank youuuuuuu

Don’t get fooled by false promises of agencies, IRCC draws are too high right now.
My husband and I cam to Canada as IS, secured good jobs I am a RN in Ontario and husband works as Sr. Advisor in one of the big banks in Canada but we are still waiting to be selected in the pool of candidates our score is in low 500’s. Our PGWP is expiring June and our employers (given that they are all big companies and top hospitals) do not offer LMIA, we could lose everything and go back home. Be wise in making a decision, you do not want your time and money will go to waste.

UVic does not have any news about losing it’s PGWP eligibility under the program you take isnt PGWP-eligible 😊 So make sure to double check on IRCC’s website or through UVic to confirm that your chosen program is PGWP-eligible 🤗 all the best!

20 gran is only for living expenses. It doesnt include the tuition fees
Canada's immigration plan is shifting to Australia. Which means the government is welcoming candidates with certain skills like trades, health, francophone people to apply PR. Other ones even with impressive skills are not in demand, and CRS general draw is extremely high. Even now, more than 9,000 people are above CRS 500 in the pool, which is extremely competitive. Chances points below 500 is tough unless IRCC conduct huge draws. If you don't have LIMA or provincial nomination, there is almost no chance to get ITA from general draw. Unless you wish to do 6 months jobs from category selected from IRCC.

All fair points made and you’re on point with Canada’s direction on inviting specific people with specific skill sets. That’s why I’m thinking the cap would reduce the students which indirectly translates to less candidates in the pool thereby lowering the CRS score. But we’re all in the wait and see game. I'm glad I already got my PR. With all the restrictions being added and the very high CRS score and even PNP scores; I can no longer say it's easy to get PR as an international student. With the numbers I'm seeing, less than half of IS will get PR

Do you think the 30% is a result of the high total number of international students applying for PR?
@@rrdancel the data Statscan has must go back further than 10 years I don’t know if there was this intentional student explosion back then. My takeaway is that if PR is the ultimate goal the international student pathway may not be the best due to the cost vs likelihood of success.

You are wrong international students are putting a lot of pressure on the rental market. 800k figure does not account for those who are on a PGWP. A lot of issues at play, for one the amount of family homes that use to be rented to families are now rented to international students, easily cramming 10 students in a 3 bedroom home. People don’t leave once they are done with there studies the amount of Indian students I know who studied and are working as a kitchen helper etc is crazier. These people need to be asked to leave.

You are correct in that the 800K international student figure does not include PGWP holders. My argument is that even if we completely remove all international students from Canada, there is still a housing shortage problem. According to the report outlined in my video, there is a shortage of housing supply of 3 to 4 million homes or about 7.5% to 10% of the Canadian population.
If we used your extreme example of “cramming 10 students into a 3 bedroom home” and divide it by the total international student population, you would end with 80,000 housing units of 3 bedroom homes occupied by international students. Now, if we remove all international students from Canada and free up the 80,000 for Canadian families, we still have a shortage of 3 to 4 million homes. In short, there is an insignificant impact to the supply of housing and the price of accommodation will continue to remain high.
On the flip side, if we removed all the international students, there would be an abundance of housing supply for home stays and on-campus housing. These types of housing are usually meant for short to mid term stays. I doubt Canadian families will be filling this void by living on campus or living with other host families.
I think the conversation at the national level would best if we addressed the real issue of building more homes as opposed to pinning the problem on a small segment of the popluaton.

Everyone should know that you should either be an Asian or Indian to make it there otherwise, I am sorry it is so difficult.
Living expenses are soooo high and please know this don’t let anyone bs you, once you graduated you need to make a Canadian resume and even with that in my field I didn’t get a single interview and hey no one will tell you this ugly truth.
While studying there was a no regular job and yes at the same time no interviews and you can guess who gets hired (mostly Indians and Asians) this is not a Racist comment in anyways they are most loved in Canada.
While i dont agree with some points here, I do appreciate you sharing your experiences and input. There will always be challenges when uprooting your life somewhere else and personally, i have shared some frustrations in the process too. It’s good to talk about it so that others who are considering a similar path can be better prepared for what's to come, weigh the pros and cons, set realistic expectations, and develop strategies to cope with the changes. How can you say that housing is not affected in Canada. The last time this country experienced a spike in population was in 1971. And it happened again since 2020. Housing won't increase in proportion to the population growth. In 2022 Canada's population grew by 1 million.You say that there is currently eight hundred thousand students in Canada. But what about the students who already obtained the PR since coming here? You are one of them. And there are many. A countless number of students who obtained PR. So don't blame the Ministers or whatever decisions they take. At least be thankful that you are lucky enough to hold a PR. Before the pandemic it was so much easier for anyone coming to Canada as a new immigrant to find work. Not right now.
The argument in the video is about what causes high house prices. In simple economics, prices are determined by the intersection of demand and supply. The demand side is made up of people that want housing and this includes Canadians, permanent residents and temporary residents that live in Canada. By percentage, Canadians and PRs, are by far the largest group of people in the market that demand housing. Interatnional students make up under 2% of the total population in Canada that demand housing. Now, let’s look at the 2%. In reality, most international students live in shared accommodation, on campus accommodation or home stays. So, the ratio is not 1 unit of housing taken up by 1 international student. The ratio is more likely to be 1 housing unit is taken up by 2, 3 or 4 international students. So, the 2% international student population, will demand less than 2% of the housing supply.
Now, let’s move onto the supply side. There is currently a shortage of housing supply by approximately 3 to 4 million homes. Currently, Canadians are not building new homes fast enough to keep up with demand. One of the causes of this problem is high inflation. During the pandemic, there was a decrease in world GDP growth. Most governments tried to quickly increase GDP by pumping a lot of money into their national economy. The Canadian government did this by spending a lot o money on various government programs. This inevitably increased the Canadian money supply and thereby increased inflation. High rates of inflation lead to extremely high interest rates. High interest rates greatly impacted the housing market. Home owners are paying steep mortgages rates to buy or keep their homes. Home owners offset these high mortgages rates by increasing the rental rates. High interest rates also slows down construction of new homes. Builders take out loans to build new homes. When the cost of the loan increases by 150% or more, then it’s best to delay construction. Besides the interest rates, we have very strict government policies, by-laws and regulations when it comes to building new homes. This is called bureaucracy. It has effectively slowed construction of new homes for decades. If we looked back to the early 80s, 90s or early 2000s, we can see that Canadian home prices were rising a lot quicker than personal income. One reason for this discrepancy between home prices and income is the shortage of supply.
We have a shortage of 3 to 4 million homes and an international student population of 800,000. If we completely remove all international students from Canada, we may free up approximately 300,000 housing units. These housing types include single units, on campus dormitories and home stays. I don’t think Canadians will be gobbling up on campus accommodations and home stays. Even if they were, we still have a housing shortage by at least 2.7 million to 3.7 million homes. This shortage will effectively keep the housing prices high for years to come.
Let’s look at an extreme example to solve the housing problem. Supply of houses would have to surpass demand in order for prices to start falling. In order for this to happen in a short period of time, we must drastically build more homes or remove more people from Canada and do it quickly (hopefully before election time). With the currently economic climate and bureaucracy, it is not possible to build more homes quickly. It is much easier to remove people. If we remove all international students, we still have a housing shortage. Would the government consider removing 2.7 million to 3.7 million permanent residents and Canadians to create balance in the housing market? I don’t think so.
In summary, high housing prices are not caused by international students. It is a much more effective conversation at the national level if the government focused on issues that prevent building of new homes. 😊

I would say as someone who comes from Philippines, this country might be better like how it is for Rachel, but as a Singaporean, this country is not what I wanted. I would advise anyone to look for better countries out there. Canada is accepting all kinds of shit people into the country and you would be surprised that Canadian young children are leaving for US. If Canada was a dream nation, why is there a brain drain in the first place? In my opinion, don't come to Canada. It is easy to immigrate to but because of that, you get alot of shitty people here.

@gdanoff I studied in Ottawa, working in Calgary for a Toronto Employer. Whatever points that Racheal says about as Canada as worth it, I am able to rebut it with a counterpoint. She tells her perspective in a positive light which I appreciate but that's far from reality. I prefer the truth as compared to positivity and trust me, Canada is not worth it. Just google why immigrants are leaving Canada and you will understand why. It hurts me to leave after investing time and money into this country but I know it will hurt much more in the long run. I still have the time and resources to rectify my mistake.
But if your country is at war or unstable for that matter, Canada will offer you a safe place to sleep in comparison. Notice I didn't say home! Good luck peeps and don't fall for youtubers or anyone who tries to paint a good picture of Canada. You need the truth!!

I mean you are comparing Singapore to Canada. Both countries are so so so different in terms of economics, culture, population, land mass …etc. You did mention how strict the immigration policy is in Singapore and how less strict it is in Canada. But, these immigration policies are unique to each country.

Yes! A different government brings with it different policies. If that does happen, I expect a Conservative led government will focus their immigration policies more on labour needs of Canada. I am thinking more PR programs for candidates with job offers in certain industries or favouring certain economic sectors to attract more permanent foreign workers.
I thought Arc’teryx was overhyped. But, since owning one, it is my preferred jacket. 😊

The unemployment rate in Canada has been relatively low sitting at 5.7% which is below the historic average rate of 8%. So it’s not that there are no jobs here, it’s just the type of jobs that you may be looking for.
But i’d love to hear what your experience or insight is on finding jobs cos it’s relevant to talk about😊☺️
Unemployment rate is low just because skilled workers are settling for low paying jobs like cashier/barista.
But to have a good job that pays above min. Are extremely hard to acquire.

@@rrdancel All these institutions are taking advantage of the PR pathway. most people use education institutions as a means to get permanent residence not as a learning experience, the instructors know this too. You'd be hard-pressed to find a single Canadian student in one of these "affordable colleges" that promise a PGWP. You don't get a first-world education, it's mediocre at best, and you don't get to interact with Canadian peers but rather with other immigrants who don't care about learning. If you just want to move to Canada and get a permanent residence, sure, you'll get it... if you have the money. If you want to broaden your knowledge, improve your skillset, meet academic peers that share your same interests, do research in a specific field... Canada is not the place. I'm sorry but it's the truth. the education system is being used almost exclusively for immigration purposes nowadays.
I get your point of why you think the Canadian education system is a scam. Your comment has to do more with the integrity of the education system. In this video, I agreed that the government is doing it correctly by removing some educational institutions that do not meet certain levels of quality education. The government is doing this by removing PGWP eligibility for certain private colleges and universities. The public colleges and universities are typically better choices when it comes to quality education. But, these public schools do have higher academic entrance requirements. So, even if an international student wants to obtain PR, there is still a challenge to be accepted into a good school first. This should help improve the quality of education. 😊
Canada is not worth the cost. Not good for studying here, utter and shear waste of talent and time.
