with all respect , the fact that you said he uses his voice as an instrument got an instant sub!
Same!!
This has been my favorite song by TOOL since the first time I heard it when the album was released.
You have a favorite Tool song? I'm not being an a$$, I just rarely hear anyone say that!
you have great musical tastes
@@Kathie4 Up until that point, I wouldn’t have been able to pick one either.
Try Lateralus... Written to the Fibonacci Sequence. It is nice to the brain.
This, and Stinkfist.
The beautiful thing about Tool's lyrics is that Maynard writes them into the song after Adam, Danny and Justin compose the music. Its simply amazing how he can write the lyrics to fit the music perfectly.
"That chorus is like lotion in my ears"...................thats classic!
That's like a sore dick...... Can't beat it!!!!!
"Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift his eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
I've got this line tattooed on me, because it's the most profound shit I've ever heard
It really is
I have been needing to get the same tattoo the most profound lyric that I have heard.
@@anandamide8991 I've decided to go with "If when I say I might fade like a sigh if I stay".
where tf u got that tat that'd be long af
@@adoze6272Haha... exactly...
"I like the way my ears feel".
YES! That's TOOL. Thanks for your videos!
This song is an obsession. I put it in with Lateralus, Pneuma and Invincible.
Do the same to get ready for the gym.
@@kennethdennis40I listen to this song every time I need to do sth that makes me uncomfortable like talking in front of a lot of people, asking someone out or an important exam / work thing because it helps me detach myself from the moment and be grateful for all I have
One reactor (can't remember which one) pointed out that the breakdown in the middle is like time travel...starts rhythmic and tribal (beginning of man) and evolves into almost frantic chaos (current state of humanity)
That's really insightful. I'd never thought of it that way before. Thank you for sharing.
"Let it marinate" is a great phrase, as it relates to their music as a whole. Just like a marinade, their music gets better the longer you keep soaking in it. There are very, very few songs that keep getting better the more you hear them, but almost every Tool song is like that for me. Keep spiraling out 🤘
His voice IS an instrument - I love your thoughtful reactions.
Hand on Heart it’s like rediscovering Tool once again 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Some people aren’t ready for Tool. It’s clear that you’ve figured out how they’re special.
Very true, I think it has a lot to do with they crazy odd time signatures they use, and I think it throws some peoples brains off that don't grasp the shear complexity of their music and lyrics..
Maynard wrote this from the perspective of the angels. So creative.
can't stop crying while listening to this album.. i don't know words to describe how beautiful this is
Stop crying..
@@nathanwaibel454start crying..
CRY BABY CRY .tears are ..proof of soul . All of our WEAKNESS and all of our STRENGTHS . are drawn from the same WELL ..
Any lyrical content from and not just Maynard...all the members of all his groups..Serving just one more plate of delicious reality . to those aware that there is a reality being disguised by the hateful selfish cowards... that inherited control over our education and in fact all the basic knowledge or disinformation required to keep humans at odds . Control control control . Do you like to be controlled by some entity that just laughs at our reaction . At our simple to conjure anger and lack of self discipline .Re: king crimson . Discipline
For real... If you don't shed tears at some point to this band... You need to reevaluate your life.
That's tough dude. For me it's Lateralus when he says "keep going" I just break down and wail like a baby
No other band quite like Tool that can put emotions into music the way they do
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to Heaven, conscious of its fleeting time here"
CUT AND DIVIDE IT ALL RIGHT IN TWO
repugnant is a creature who would re-post the same lyric quote under every reaction video
Mug has become a squad leader in the Tool army
Of all the Tool reactions, his are definitely my favorite
Tool fans know how good this song is but, underrated to the general public. I see what you're saying about the aggressive part being war or fighting. Right before that part hits, Maynard in the background is saying....
Fight till they die over sun, over sky
They fight till they die over sea, over air
They fight till they die over blood, over love
They fight till they die over words, polarizing
This. Is. Why.
Lyrics deep, true, universal, and accessible.
Music riding the waves of evolution.
And Danny.
And danny! Absolutely
And never forget Justin, his bass is the lead in some of my favourite songs from TOOL ❤
@@alihijazi4451 Justin brings the thunder!
He says he is NOT a lead, his vocals are but another instrument. Pure art and 🔥
Oh shit this the one I've been waiting for. You've dipped your toes far enough into the water to appreciate it's brilliance. It's good that this wasn't your first song.
Maynard absolutely uses his voice as an instrument. He stands in the back of the stage by the drums.
I'm crying on the way to work, thanks bro. This is only my favorite song ever, I'm so thankful that you enjoyed it as well.
Tool is that band, that you wish you could just feel the music wash over you. Experience it down to your molecular level and not just with your ears.
Mushrooms
What do you mean, "wish you could just feel the music wash over you"? It does for me regardless of what I want.
You can! 🍄
Tool is the greatest band EVER! And I have lots of other bands i love. Maynard's a genius.
One of my favorite memories was being on 3 tabs at a pirate festival, and walking into a roadside tavern playing Fear Inoculum the weekend it released... they had LED chandeliers that synced to the music, so I sat down in the center of the bar and spiraled out to Pneuma.... mindblowing experience
Scientist perspective. We are here for the same reason that squirrels are here. Just happened. Evolution. Animals are animals, and we are no exception, thus the greedy and violent nature in ourselves that we often display. This doesn't mean that the world is basic and nasty though. Seems to me the world is beautiful and awe inspiring. People are amazing and loving and kind. What you see depends on your perspective.
Very true. Cheers from Portugal.
This is a song that points out all of humans flaws
Maynard absolutely uses his voice as an instrument, it's basically the whole reason they intentionally keep him low in the mix so often!
Maynards voice is like diving from a precipice into the abyss.
I’ve been a Tool fan for 22 years, and reacted to a-lot of channel’s Tool reactions. I can see that you’re a true musician who appreciates greatness. Thank you!
He narrates the emotion of the music.
My brother I can't tell you how happy I am for you to have totally received the message of this song. You get it...peace be with you sir!
So nice to finally have a reactor that gets it. Love your streams, keep up the good work.
This song has always fascinated me. Something I don’t think gets enough attention is that the structure of the song is a story in itself. One way to interpret the song, in my opinion, is human evolution and the passing of time.
The song starts out very simple (by Tool standards) which could represent how we started out as simple creatures - talking monkeys. As time has gone on, humans have become more complicated and “divided”. The song matches that and slowly progresses to become faster, louder, and more complex. Ultimately ending in a big finale that brings us right back to the start..
You need to catch them live. They're about to start their fall tour, but I would bet that they'll tour again next year. I have been going to shows for 30 years and they are one of the best!
As you get close to "No Quarter" listen to the Led Zep original first. The Tool version is the perfect homage.
I second that.
Third
I've been watching reactions to this song for years, just WAITING for someone who gets it like you do. Thank you for combining the lyrical content with the instrumental genius that Tool is.
Excellent reaction. Your descriptions of each segment are great.
That is what makes TOOL so special in my mind is that they get so DEEP and complex in so many ways both musically and lyrically and Mathematically !
They play in crazy timing signatures, which I think is what throws off a lot of people, but there are those that know what all goes into their music and grasp it, and that is why TOOL has a fierce and loyal following, but it is not for those that cant grasp it all I feel..
TOOL has never been a commercial band and only put out an album once every 10-13 years, They never cared about radio play, hence almost every one of their songs are 6 minutes and longer..
Songs written to be played on the radio are meant to be around 3-4 minutes long.. Seriously, look at all the hit songs on the radio over the years and look at the length of most of them..
TOOL got it's fans from word of mouth and concert's, but guess what band is the only band in history to have the billboard top 10 in online downloads that every spot on the Billboard top 10 was a TOOL song during the release of their last album in 2017 I believe it was.. Yes you heard me right the only band in history to have their songs take up every spot 1-10 in the billboard top 10 of most downloaded songs at the same time, and as you might know most people just pay to download songs these days rather than buy CD's.. What makes it even crazier, is like I said, most of their songs were never played on the radio over the last 30 years they have been playing.. Think about it, there is literally probably only about 5 TOOL songs that got radio play over the last 30 years yet they were able to fill every spot on the Billboard Top 10 AND THE ONLY BAND in history to do it!
My favorite Tool song!
Liked the reaction. Nice on recognizing the amazing drums!
Interesting how we are able to transcend this life experience, bear witness, introspect and then create such lyrics. It was a pleasure watching your reaction. So honestly delivered. 😃
This is my favorite Tool song hands down, so beautifully composed from every angle. I loved this reaction and felt you were pretty intuitive in your interpretation of the material. Would love to see your reaction to Hooker With a Penis next.
That instrumental part sounds like WAR to me
You sir are a man of culture
Top ten favorite songs of all time!!!! That's f#$kn crazy!!!!
😂 you, said it felt very aggressive. 😂 that is humorous. It's someone saying a bomb felt very destructive.😂. I love TOOL. I saw them 3 times LA, Tampa Orlando.
I have watched every reaction to every Tool song on YT...you're my favorite!
I love this fabulous Tool song (my favorite one of al) and your reaction to it. 😎
The pick drag at 15:28 followed by the doubling up on the riff gives me chills every time.
Magic
It's gotta be Wings for Marie time...
For sure!
Sh*t... that's a tough one, though 😢
It’s here
I interpret this song as evolving beyond violence. As a choice between violence and peace and choosing peace. Choosing to offer the enemy the other cheek after he's slapped you.
Check out some of Maynard's side project stuff....

We're the angels on the sidelines.
This song is about the illusion of Duality. There aren't any "others"... that's the illusion that's kept us tearing each other apart since Adam realized he was naked (ability to metacognize)... that was an allegory for the fall of man (descent into Duality). Adam was naked...but he didn't know he was naked until he took a bite...so to speak.
And you are absolutely right about the language. Our Dualistic language has kept us in bondage.
I'll give an example. "The wind blows". This simple coherent statement in the English language seems harmless, but our language holds domain over how we perceive rrality, and language consistently reinforces this to us relentlessly. . Now, is there a blower of the wind, and wind that obeys some sort of commander of the wind? Obviously not, there's only 1 thing happening here, there is ONLY the wind.. however, when you have a language that adheres to a military chain of command (King/servant or God/inferior) we act accordingly... and we feel we're right in two.. ..right in our Dualistic way of seeing the world.
The tribal part is literally the ringer I made for my phone. This is my favorite Tool song.
used to be my favourite song by tool, but dude these guys will take you on a journey every time.
The only Tool song you should have lyrics for during a first listen.
"Cut it right in two" remember the story of King Soloman and the baby with two mothers one a liar one who was true.
Real deep. Thinking man's heavy metal.
When listening this song, lyrics make more sense when you see what's happening in this world!!
Enjoying watching you spiral out Sir. Have a blast.
His voice is an instrument and their instruments have voices.
Love the channel brother, always warms the heart to see someone discover TOOL.
The song is from the view of the Angels in Heaven.
They are questioning the "Creator's" motives for why he gave his "greatest" creation such free will to disobey.
These talking monkeys are blessed by God with all the cognition and reasoning, yet they choose to divide everything amongst themselves and fight each other for it and over trivial things when Eden (the World/Paradise created FOR us) has everything we need. Yet we still fight each other and horde all the things for ourselves. Its the paradox of humanity.
Yeah, I have always thought of his great voice as another instrument also. DC = GOAT
I loved the 'rain on buckets' analogy.
Sweet, this is currently my favorite Tool song. Try not to listen to new ones cause they always get me. Ticks and Leaches is pretty awesome on that note. The drum solo toward the last 3rd of this is my all time favorite. This band can literally put me in a trance. Look at the cover art for these tunes, then read the Biblical descriptions of angels. This is from Genisis. Cain and Abel. Greed and envy will ensure they must cut it all right in two. The tribal drumming could signify Africa, the cradle of mankind.
Humans are alive to remember the horrors of what we are capable of. If there wasn't more good than bad than we would not be alive to have these revelations.
LoveLoveLove your Tool reactions. This is one of my favorite Tool songs.
WELCOME TO THE RABBIT HOLE DUDE! I was around when tool first formed and came out with their first album. We were all completely God's smacked and didn't know what the heck we had just heard.... BUT WE LOVED IT! I love that you discover them!
I feel that "chaotic" section is allegory to all history od humans. I mean going thru centuries, different eras, one after another. Like developing humankind constantly interrupted by violence.
17:50 - That was my interpretation, that the heavy / solo section is a sort of extended onomatopoeia for warfare. There's also the excitement in that section where I start vibing to it and then I blush when it hits me 'Oh yeah, I've got that in me too'. Master class.
and to think that the music is finished when the lyrics are written. its like Justin, Adam & Danny's music tells a story, setting the emotional tone, and then Maynard's amazing lyrics match the emotions of the music and force you to Think Deep.
I really enjoyed this video Mugni, awesome job!!!
The 10,000 Days album has a connection to the lead singer of TOOL mother who suffered a stroke, she lived for 10,000 days
The drum rain 🥁 sound is Indian tabla so beautiful
Hell yeah more Tool.
you just put in to words what i feel whenever i hear this song, btw, i have tattooed this album image in my leg.
13:51 "Danny gonna make my ear lobes dance." Haha! Yessir
😁Love your reactions to tool, you get it from the rip. To me that whole middle section of the song is the evolution of man from tribal to modern chaos to the end of the world.
To me this song resonates everything, that we as humans, have failed at. War begin as soon as we could figure out how to make weapons. It’s a beautiful composition and my favorite by this band. The angels want to know why we chose this path, they can’t even understand the pain and death that we have chose
The drums tell the story
I feel like this song is the prequel to Descending
Love your interpretations of the lyrics! This is such a powerful song in terms of the visuals it creates in your head and reflecting on our place in time and a higher power then us. I totally see a similar visual during the last 2 mins of the song....humans tearing each other apart for what...while the angels and God look on in horror, and turn their backs. Subscribed!!!
Bro, I love you man. You have such a wonderful enjoyment of music. You are doing so well. Bless you bro! Much love.
You must make a second reaction video, but now watching the song video, it explains everything
ua-cam.com/video/PSLOCedWmWM/v-deo.htmlsi=7w3LyoPsd_U3kRrn
You do a great job of interpreting the story being told.
From the "this is tribal" point, everything builds into more industrial and then finally into something like star wars. It's like the cycle of destroying each others stuff and rebuilding, history repeating.
This is my favorite Tool song of all time, and you are one of my favorite reaction videos ever. What a good time.
No words, such an amazing deep track. 🤘🏻🌀
It's like the forest Gump of music...too damn good for words!!!!
Would just like to offer the word "ruminate" in place of marinate. Ruminate implies deep thought on a subject, and thats definitely what this song and the majority of Tool lyrics make you do.
Truly divine souls are divine through free will...divinity will never be forced! This is the purpose of free will.
The music tells the story just as well as the lyrics 👉👈
I just came across your channel and I like they way you break these songs down. I can see how they affect you because they’ve affected me the same way. You got another subscriber sir. Thank you.
Unpopular opinion. The most unique Tool album
Not for me!It's one of my favourite too, just after Aenema
Not an unpopular opinion. I just see each album as so unique that it's hard to for me to say which one is most unique 😆
Great commentary. Great entertainment. I'm a fan!
So I’ve only watched two of your videos, both were Tool, but bro. I absolutely love how you focus on the drums because I feel like Tool’s usage of percussion is often overlooked because of Maynard’s voice and the guitar effects. Tool has always been an 11 out of 10 band for me. Vocals, instrumentals, lyrics, album artwork (shoutout to Alex Grey), everything. I’m so happy to see someone else appreciating their work. You definitely caught this sub bro.
I heard this song the day it was released. Seen it performed live. I can't believe this album is ~17 years old now. Where has all the time gone...
You got it man, it's the angels talking about us
If you watch the music video it all becomes a little more clear. This songs music video is one of the only ones that really make sense with the song
