Both look up to All Might as the ideal hero, but in different ways. Deku sees All Might as the ideal hero to become. Kacchan sees All Might as the ideal hero to surpass.
I think they really underplayed deku's problems during this test. Deku admires all might to a fault. He is so convinced that he can't do anything to all might that he only wants to run. Both Deku and bakugos plans were not great. Eventually, Deku did grow. He managed to punch all might right in the face.
It's useless they don't understand shit. First I also used to comment on a lot of their videos to explain them basic things but they never fail to amaze me of how much they miss. The best example is AOT. So I stopped explaining them anything a while ago.
Not really - it was Deku, who literally almost made them lose whole fight. I don't see how it was ever underplayed. Oh, wait you are talking about Normies. I guess it was obvious they will do that.
The Origin episodes aren't really about backstory. After all, the whole series is the backstory of these future heroes. The Origin episodes highlight key moments that, looking back after the characters have become pros, were what shaped them into the heroes they became.
Bakugo is a complicated character. He has a massive overwhelming inferiority complex and poor self esteem. In his head he needs to be indisputably the best or else he has no self worth. When he makes mistakes he's as hard on himself or even harder than deku. And since he needs to be the best it means any offer of help or assistance is someone implying that he's weak. His entire self worth is based on winning on his own, and anything that threatens that scares him and infuriates him. A lot of his angry personality is just talk he subconsciously uses to keep people from wanting to help him.
He wasn't gifted the best quirk ever (but still a good one), like the his two competition in class-1A. He's better in everyway besides that. Smarter, faster, better fighter. Midoriya's a cheater, was given an OP quirk. Todoroki's quirk was basically made to be that good, and he gets to skate by on it regardless of his lack of actual skills. I'd be mad all of the time too.
I agree with a lot of this, I think he’s a good character, just not a terribly good person, reminds me too much of bullies growing up lol...I’m still waiting for him to apologise to Deku lol....
yep Summer is in the middle of the school year, it part of the reason they give so much summer homework as your comming back to theacher who issued it classat the end of the holiday
You do realize it was partly Dekus fault as well. He admires all might to a point where he underestimates everyone including himself. He wasn’t willing to listen to bakugo either but already chose to run away. Bakugo knew there was no way they could avoid fighting. But his fault was he got too cocky. They both realized their faults and ended up fixing it so that they could pass the gate.
That's true abt deku but if bakugou had tried talking to him from the beginning they would have had a better start. Deku was more willing to cooperate than bakugou
It was mostly Deku's fault - in dub you don't get much of it, but in original version Bakugo is hella analitical in this fight, where Deku from the start is rambling about not important stuff. If you for a moment take away the fact that Deku is main protagonist - his logic is extremely invalid, which pissed Bakugo even more, especially after they already once fought against All Might - and they did agree on a plan without unnecessary talking then. There is no need for planning against All Might - especially when you don't know full amount of power he will be using against you. Other than being hella annoyed by the useless Deku - most fault lays on Midoriya in this one.
@@uzair7387 He didn't try cooperate really - he knows Bakugo's ways, and have massive knowledge on heroes. Instead of "trying" to ramble about nonsense he should have been spilling all the useful facts about All Might. Especially ones that Deku learned through last few weeks. He should know that Bakugo won't run away in the first time possible, cause that's not what assigment was about. He was blinded by his own emotions. Which is extremely ironic - when previously it was Bakugo who was taken over by his own anger. Deku is too scared to act and Bakugo won't hear about bs like that. Not from Deku, who on so many occasions jumped into danger and he now chickens out even before whole exams starts? Pay attention to the episode - Bakugo heared Deku's words, and didn't have time for bs.
@@mjm3091 No way, Bakugo openly said he'd rather lose than team up until Midoriya punched him into reason. Bakugo has this tendency of being blind by anger for a small thing that affects more than he thinks then being more angry after he realizes it. The clear example is his start line episode. This is one thing that develops through the series. The main problem was communication and Bakugo was not willing to have it, so the main fault lies on him if anything. It doesn't matter if Deku's logic was illogical, that's something that got fixed with a single line midbattle.
@@johndinner4418 he rather lose than work with a crybaby loser like him - He rather lose by himself than run away with scaredy cat who doesn't even think properly at the moment.
@@emancules I think that OP means that most anime would have gave Katsuki a sad backstory to make up for the fact that he was a dickhead, BNHA subverted that by making Katsuki have a completely normal family and backstory.
It's important to understand Bakugos character.. We saw that Bakugo has admired and looked up to All might since he was a child, but for different reasons then Deku. Kacchan admires All Might's power and the fact that he is 'always the winner'. So as he grew up, Kacchans view of the "best" hero shaped his perspective of what kind of hero he wanted to be. He was admired and praised all his life by his friends (including Deku) because he had a powerful quirk and he never lost.. In his mind, All Might never needed any help against villains so he doesn't want help because he wants to prove that he is strong enough on his own... so, Deku tries to help Bakugo all the time since they were kids. Bakugo wants to prove that he doesnt need help which is why he gets pissed at Deku. But Deku keeps trying and wants to be around Bakugo because he admires the hell out of him. Their relationship is complicated but it's not completely toxic. They are more alike then they realize and the show develops their characters and their relationship beautifully.
but not really though?? There's a lot of ground work laid sure, but it definitely has not been developed nearly so well that Bakugou deserves any defense, but that's just as much Horikoshi's fault. Here's a piece by someone I don't know that sums up why bakugou is both purposefully toxic and also not as well written as he could be: archiveofourown.org/works/13163142/chapters/35604060#workskin
Yep, sure, and that's all fine. He's still a violent, self-obsessed bully with delusions of grandeur who's completely incapable of accepting his own limitations. I really wish the people around him would just let him straight-up fail and stop trying to make up for his weaknesses when he refuses to admit he even has any.
Tony Soprano I mean well of course he was knocked out when deku went back for him, but if he ever were to find out tho he would definitely hold it against deku.
It's a good tell for Bakugo's physical ability too - despite all the training leading up to the UA Entrance Exam, and all the subsequent exertions whilst actually studying there, Bakugo's gauntlet damn near dislocated Midoriya's shoulder. Kacchan's really strong, even without taking his Quirk into consideration.
@@RTProductionz no I think he is tougher than average(especially the arm), quirk are physical ability too it's in your gene as soon as you're born your explanation is true he has to become stronger to use his quirk effectively but how can he survive multiple hits from all might, withstand the recoil of his building sized explosions(Newton 3rd law) with that alone
One of my favorite moments in the whole anime is how, at first, Deku apologizes and frowns to All Might when using Bakugo's Gauntlet to attack him. Then when he finally puts his faith more in Bakugo and not his idol, he runs up with a smile on his face saying "please get out of the way all might" and punches the shit out of him. People always say Bakugo was the only one wrong in this team up, but Bakugo was absolutely right about at least one thing. Deku was too focused on the plan of running away to realize that it wasn't even a viable option, because All Might would always be faster. They needed to fight in ORDER to run away. They needed BOTH strategies to make it work, and they did!
Deku didn’t think about it in the first place because Bakugo was not cooperative. If Bakugo had just said that I will come up with a strategy for an escape you don’t have to teach me Deku would have listened to him because he respects him even though he is a dick.
Deku didn't want talk either - he had from the start decided they should just run for their lifes. Rambling about shiet isn't any kind of strategising. On top of that they both know each other - Bakugo literally knew Deku's plan previously in the OVA (which was canonical part of the manga), so him assuming that he doesn't know what Deku wants is stupid. Especially when it was an assigment and Bakugo at least tried to check whole situation before he even started strategising. Cause with All Might you literally can't strategise, especially if you don't know the level of strength he will be using against you. Bakugo genuinely was furious about how much Midoriya was paralised.
@@mjm3091 dont even try to stick up for Bakugo lol. Bakugo is allowed to hate Dekus plan but jesus TALK it out. I found this episode infuriating to watch. Yes Deku isnt perfect and how he views all might put him in a difficult position this fight, but the way everyone was referring to their problems like it was both of them.. no just no. This was 90% a problem with Bakugos attitude 10% Deku nothing less. Deku LITERALLY was trying to talk and Bakugo punched him. He is an idiot. Yes Deku was stubborn and shouldnt have disregarded fighting but working with someone like Bakugo is impossible he doesnt know what teamwork and cooperation are or how to communicate with people..
@@Wat3rDragon not on either side, just laying out some facts: its not impossible to work with Bakugo and he does know what teamwork/cooperation is. He also has a communication style that's direct vs. Midoriya's which is more detail oriented. Those two types of communication styles will always have a more difficult time seeing eye to eye (this applies to real life communication styles as well (see DISC assessment/personalities)). With that said, Bakugo worked in a team just fine at the UA Sports Festival during the cavalry battle. He had a team full of people who had a similar communication style. He cooperated with Kirishima perfectly fine a few times during the attack on the USJ (once at the beginning and once when they all got separated from what I can remember so far). This situation is neither of their's fault but more just clashing personalities and communication styles. Also, you gotta be honest with yourself - Midoriya could've been perceived as forcing his own beliefs and plans onto Bakugo expecting him to follow him, just the same way you could say about Bakugo doing it to Midoriya. But that's the vibe I got from Midoriya when I first watched that scene. Bakugo definitely has shit to work on but its not "90% bakugo 10% midoriya".
@@SonicmaniaVideos What else could Deku have done? Tell us all.. How could he have magically clicked his fingers and got Bakugo to stop being an ass and work with him?... I'm fairly confident that Bakugo would have been too stubborn to work with Tokoyami and Asyui too, and they're both fantastic at working as a team. Deku would've been fine with them too. Bakugo is literally the main issue here.
horikoshi seems to only draw one variant of messy hair, so everyone with messy hair looks similar. dabi is just so distinct otherwise that he's clearly differentiated, but shindo is not.
Some Bakugo stuff: 1. He always wants to win because that is his definition of a hero, someone who will stand victorious in the end no matter how bad the situation is. That is also why he looks up to All Might. 2. He "hates" Midoriya because Midoriya was his definition of a loser, he had no quirk, no skill, no talent, pretty much the opposite of what he believes a hero needs to be. That was his truth for many years. But now, Midoriya suddenly stands in the same arena as him and he can't accept this sudden change, so he is desperatly trying to prove that he is better than him.
Exactly. No one bothered to keep his ego in check. Which is probably one of the worst things you can do to a child with superpowers, cause that's really going to affect how they grow up. Even his parents were aware of it.
It’s not just his quirk too. He’s extremely smart. He picks up everything he tries with in a few minutes. He’s unrivaled in terms of talent in the series.
@@leviharris-hale6578 Not to mention his absolute focus on his goal which actually makes work his ass off on his studies and his super competitive attitude which I really freaking admire.
I think its kinda refreshing to have a character that doesnt have an excuse to be a mentally unstable person with anger issues etc. He is just like that, no excuses and he needs to become better. And thats kinda the development for bakugou
When you click on the video and see the top comments are paragraphs long about someones character, you know something went over the Normies heads this episode lmao.
I love how they framed that last shot of Deku running back for Bakugo in the same way he came to help Bakugo from the sludge villain in epidode 2. Shows how much Deku has grown since then.
This is still my favorite episode of season 2. Mostly because it shows how overpowered All Might is compared to the students, and because it shows Bakugo has the chance to become one of the greatest heroes, seeing how he was able to hold off handicapped All Might. Edit: Also Deku punching the man he looks up to for the sake of victory.
@@lucas33308 it is revealed in order to use shockwaves izuku has to use atleast 20% ofa...and that's the minimum percentage...allmight while fighting bakugou also uses shockwaves, ergo he is atleast using 20%ofa if not more since izuku's ofa is stronger than all might's...don't pull random numbers like 5% out of your ass or at the very least give a valid reason to back up your claim
@@souvikbose8583 At this point in the story, Midoriya's full cowl was at 5% because that was the maximum amount of energy his body could hold without damaging itself. Also, it has been shown that at 5%, Midoriya is able to create slight wind pressure. It's only at around 15-20% that the wind pressure can be used as a viable attack option.
My favorites from season 2 would have to be "In their own quirky ways" and "Encounter". I like the first one because it has probably the best displays of Midoriya's ingenuity. The second, I like because it gives us an interesting departure from typical shonen villains.
It's true that Deku fully represent the 'romantize' version of what a hero is, but if we're to be practical and consider a universe/world where 'Hero' is a legitimate profession, then 'result' is what matter just like in any profession. So in this scenario, Bakugo represent the practical idea of hero, while Deku represent the ideal/romantize type of hero, two side of the same coin.
"This is a good show for kids to watch " *remembers scenes from the next season and stuff that is yet to be animated from the manga* eeehhhhh just wait and see
One irrationaly pulled away, the other irrationaly attacked. They had to be able to overcome this irrationalism. Also there is no sentence than "A hero always wins in the end, thats what it means to be a hero" that i agree with more in whole series. At least what was animated so far.
DynamixX I feel Bakugo would lose the first fight but after would win a second one because He takes info from previous experiences and adapts that’s why he is a WAY better fighter then Izuku and always will be
Both look up to all might but for different reasons. Deku loves all might cuz he always ppl, and shows compassion to the weak. Bakugo loves all might cuz he never loses a fight. This will all make sense in the future
I think this episode exemplifies the best and worst of All Might as a teacher. He knew how to exploit Deku and Bakugou's weaknesses with teamwork and tried his best to literally beat this lesson into them.... but he also completely lost sight of the fact that this was a test, not an actual fight. If you compare to the other exit exams of Class 1A, none of the other student took even half the damage that Deku and Bakugou sustained. He took "Plus Ultra" to it's absolute extreme. It didn't cross his mind, the consequences of going as hard as he did and the result is honestly very brutal. My theory is that he wanted to revel in the power of One For All before it completely left his body, at this point in the series. Recovery Girl said it best when she warned him that Deku's spine and Bakugous body were almost permanently damaged had he gone any harder.... and then remember that All Might lamented he wasn't at his full power because of the weights he was wearing. Some may disagree, but that's my thought on this fight in particular. P.S- If you guys in the comments don't believe that All Might is a terrible teacher, watch the first anime OVA's, where he dresses up as a villain and attacks Class 1A at the USJ to show that villains can strike at any time....a month after the USJ attack, with everyone still reeling from that experience.
I disagree with All Might being a terrible teacher. Not sure how much canon the OVA's are so I'll leave that out of judgment right now. But I would argue that getting so rough, especially with Bakugo, was very important for him to realize he isn't the best and is definitely not able to beat All Might alone. And I can say for certain that All Might held back A LOT. Like, if on any of his smashes or throws wasn't completely held back, their bodies and heads would be literally non-existent anymore. So yes, All Might may have overdone it a little bit (especially with Midoriya) but overall it was a great lesson for both of them - especially since the damage wasn't permanent. And also in many other aspects of his teaching, I think that it's rather subjective if he's being a good or bad teacher. There are certainly many good aspects to his teaching too - and he's improving. Overall I just don't get the massive hate All Might gets in the aspect of being a teacher.
Why go into the OVAs? I remember All Might reading a book that's called something along the lines of "Teaching for Dummies." He's a hero first, and a teacher second. Unlike Aizawa or Gran Torino, who have been doing both at the same time. I think your theory about him wanting to revel in the power of One For All is a bit of a stretch though. It was never about the power or the position One For All offered, but instead the responsibility that came with it.
I'd say he went all out because he knows just what dangers await those two in particular. They needed an almost unstoppable force just to make them work together and the next Big Bad isn't gonna stop at a broken bone.
I doubt he wanted to revel in the power of One for All. He's not super concerned with losing the power, just concerned what happens when he loses it and villains start to rise and him being powerless. He did take it a bit too far, but he was still holding back considerably. He could have killed both of them if he didn't hold back. But both Deku and Bakugo rely on physical quirks and close combat, so it's pretty much shown that they would take damage regardless. Two, All Might needed to show both how to defeat an enemy who was clearly more powerful than both of them. Bakugo believes he's the strongest and he can defeat anyone, but he simply can't do it on his own everytime. Deku didn't want to fight All Might at all, and he forced Deku to do so if he wanted to win.
Imagine being a villain going "Okay so here's the plan" and suddenly the man himself All Might appears out of no where and just nonchalantly asks for the rest of the plan.
I wish people were smart enough to think about bakugo more than just some one dimensional "Grr angry boy yell bad" character, he's easily the most complex character in the series.
Bakugo is right in some respect that winning is an important part of being a hero. If you always accept that you're probably going to lose then you are basically a meat shield. Deku needs to learn to put himself first when it comes to fighting sometimes. Alternatively bakugo needs to learn to save and protect others more compassionately. They need to learn from eachother.
Oh My God!!!!...its the finale next week and then season 3 which is absolutely crazy...i think some of the normies are gonna be traumatised after few weeks of season 3
I digress. She had found it in the first half with our godly ship: Tododeku but lost her way to the vitriol that is Bakudeku; a fantasised tormentor/tormentee relationship. I will happily have a debate on people who could possibly say Bakudeku is in any way a good relationship. Relationship, not fan service. Aesthetic doesn’t matter, functional interaction and ability to actually communicate and comfort each other do.
Yess this episode was so good! Loved that fight so much, Deku and Kacchan finally had to work together and there were so many great moments throughout the whole thing! Btw, the school year isn't over, only their first term (out of three) since school years in Japan start in spring!
This episode is where Bakugo realizes how good Deku is. But Bakugo has so much to learn. You can be the strongest solo hero. The nurse said something that we don't do anymore. We don't push our kids enough at times. Not to this level. But we keep thinking to let our kids choose. But til they do we should be pushing our kids to learn and be stronger, faster, smarter til they pick something.
Something very important, this was not their final exams for the year, this was for the end of the TERM. The Japanese school year starts in Spring and ends in Winter, rather than starting in Fall and ending in Summer like the US and Canada do.
I saw a few days ago a video of a panel of some of the My Hero Academia's cast and they did an live voice acting of this scene. It was amazing. I really love Bakugou.... I hated him before but I saw why he is so arrogant and fierce. I can't wait to know how this show is going to go foward....
Brandon Lyon petty to you not to bakugou. Bakugo genuinely believes midoriya looks down on him and he hates him for it and he hates him more for acting like he does whiny and wanting to run away despite also (from bakugou’s perspective) looking down on him
Bakugou isn't dumb or Evil. All of his character comes down to is an overblown ego. He was always told by ppl around him (teachers or other kids) that he is the best & he always wanted to be the best on his own. He comes to UA gets hit by reality. He isn't the best, can't always win & will need help. Complete opposite to what the world's taught him before. A massive buit up ego also would make it hard to accept & get over/ deal with that
a removed scene in the anime where deku feels the same pressure as stain from allmight which is called charisma meaning charm maybe some haki like power
so the three "origin" episodes dont only refer to their backstories, their also about where the character starts their hero journey to becoming true heroes by realizing something about themselves to move forward
Everyone defending Bakugo by saying that Deku should be blamed because he thought of running away instead of fighting All might just remember that if Bakugo was cooperative from the beginning and lay out his plan to win this test Deku would have listened. He really don’t know how to communicate with this monster because he always shout at him beats him whenever he approaches. You cannot blame for that. Deku is a nice person. He may not be the best character but he is written as a guy with a great heart. Don’t defend toxic character traits of people like Bakugo. Even though its an anime if you come across people like Bakugo you will understand how painful it is to be a Deku in real life. Bullying is a crime no matter the circumstances.
Hooray! Here begins Bakugo's character arc, which makes a lot of progress in season 3. Also, next episode is awesome and sets up another character arc.
It's not Year 2, the Japanese school year begins in April so summer for them is only halfway through the year. They just finished the first semester of three is all. Their summer vacation is also a lot shorter then we'd see in America. The time between first semester and is second is around 40 day (just over a month), and the time after second and third is about 10 days. As opposed to America's just over two months. There are also various other holidays we don't celebrate like Golden Week which is at the end of April and cultural festivals with usually fall in November (though not always). So you can usually use those things to pin down roughly what time of year something is in an anime.
8:03 I wanna know if someday they'll use the same combo with the mini nukes. That combo seems to me like a Key moment for the two broskis and his toxic relationship
Not only did he make All might proud by punching him with a smile, he obtained absolute victory by getting both him and Kachan thru the gate, exactly the way Kachan likes to win.
Funny thing he was actually originally going to be a teacher at U.A, but the author changed his mind as he felt like having the number one and number two hero at the school would make it to much in favor of the good guys in terms of power so he scraped it.
How is Endeavor weak. Maybe not Godlike like Allmight, but he able to beat up bad guys and the Nomu’s easily (and later in the manga he barely won against one of the strongest ones). So Endeavor is pretty power, he didn’t get all the wall to number two by doing community service or charity events.

I wouldn't say so complex but he definitely has a lot of depth to him that *too* many people overlook. They like to oversimplify his character to rationalize their dislike for his character, just because you dislike a character doesn't negate how well written they may be.

@@emancules I think that OP means that most anime would have gave Katsuki a sad backstory to make up for the fact that he was a dickhead, BNHA subverted that by making Katsuki have a completely normal family and backstory.
@@emancules but the truth is that not everyone has a sad life.
Some actually have just had regular lives.

"You should have talked to him before!"
They _literally_ had a bit showing that he tried that beforehand and Bakugo wouldn't listen :P
It's both of them...

Some Bakugo stuff:
Still doesn't ignore the fact that he is a jackass to everyone
Back in season one they showed Bakugo as a kid getting praised by everyone for his quirk. That's why his ego is bigger than his explosions
And whenever he's shown anything other than praise it makes him feel like he has micro dick

My back hurts in sympathy for Deku
It's true that Deku fully represent the 'romantize' version of what a hero is, but if we're to be practical and consider a universe/world where 'Hero' is a legitimate profession, then 'result' is what matter just like in any profession. So in this scenario, Bakugo represent the practical idea of hero, while Deku represent the ideal/romantize type of hero, two side of the same coin.

All Might: I need to be a good teacher
Also All Might: (9:54) And now I'm gonna hit that guy with this guy!
bakugo is my fav character so i cant wait for you to understand him more! season 3 greatness.
Well you also have to remember his training with Gran Torino was literally him getting beat up...
Deku didn't want to fight All Might at all, and he forced Deku to do so if he wanted to win.
where'd you get that Toshinori body pillow? asking for a friend.
Imagine being a villain going "Okay so here's the plan" and suddenly the man himself All Might appears out of no where and just nonchalantly asks for the rest of the plan.
Honestly, if Deku and Bakugo can defeat the number one hero then the other students really don't have any excuse to not pass.
@@timtam3730 exactly. As Bakugo put it, The man isn't just powerful, HE IS POWER.
I wish people were smart enough to think about bakugo more than just some one dimensional "Grr angry boy yell bad" character, he's easily the most complex character in the series.
Complex he says lmao!!

Btw, the school year isn't over, only their first term (out of three) since school years in Japan start in spring!
This episode is where Bakugo realizes how good Deku is. But Bakugo has so much to learn. You can be the strongest solo hero. The nurse said something that we don't do anymore.

Fox Sin Bakugo isn’t that complex of a character. Even if the reason he’s a dick was a legitimate reason which it’s not, it still doesn’t change the fact that he’s a dick. Dude is an asshole for no legitimate reason. Fuck him
I wouldn't say so complex but he definitely has a lot of depth to him that *too* many people overlook. They like to oversimplify his character to rationalize their dislike for his character, just because you dislike a character doesn't negate how well written they may be.
