@@andrewgrove1691I was thinking that the one I remembered had more pop on the "Got" part. It was a little crisper. Glad my memory wasn't letting me down!
You are so right. This man had lots of great tunes. I was surprised when I heard he wasn't in. His songs are timeless and will be playing long after we're gone.
I agree 100% about that. It's like the organ player from THE DAVE CLARK 5. I know his name is MIKE but not sure of his last name. He died a couple of weeks before he got in.
@@mikeguerrero72 So on our radio stations they had Jimmy Koplick, a concert promoter, and voting member of the hall of fame. I got through, and asked him about Johnny Rivers. His exact words were "not interested." Fuck Koplick.
Awe sweet Johnny Rivers, love his voice. I was blessed to see Johnny Rivers in concert at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston, Texas July 2, 2016. It was a fantastic show he sang all my favorites "Mountain of Love" including this one "Baby, I need your Lovin' ". Born Nov. 7, 1942 John Henry Ramistella in New York City, was raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he calls home.
Johnny Rivers had such a beautiful voice. I could listen to him all day. Mountain of Love is a beautiful song as well as Slow Dancing, Swaying to the Music.
One of my favorite JR songs (even through it is a cover). The background singers (The Blossoms) were so angelic and perfect. They sung on SO many of songs for him as well as other top artists of the day.
johnny rivers is the greatest cover song artist ever. he had great original tunes, too. he was cool as kind of a square looking guy during the hippie 1960s. i've always like his music. what a great artist.
I love Johnny Rivers. I'm happy with this version just as much as what The 4 Tops did singing "Baby, I Need Your Lovin' ". "MOUNTAIN OF LOVE" by Johnny Rivers is another great song!! Thanks, Jay and Amber!! 😊😊
I dated a Secret Service agent many years ago. My sisters used to sing "Secret Agent Man" to me when I mentioned him! Johnny Rivers was a staple in our house!
This guy was all over the radio when I was a little, little kid. To the point where he was one of the chief voices of the late 60s/early 70s for me, because his voice was so distinctive. And then his songs often have that "recorded in a bowling alley" sound to them, which was kind of thing at the time with a few artists.
Johnny was my first favorite musical artist way back in 1964. Although he's done quite a bit of cover tunes over his career (he just recently retired from touring), he's got some really good stuff, stuff as well known: Goin' Back to Big Sur and Look to Your Soul off his Touch of Gold album and Carpet Man off his rewind album. Thanks for taking an interest in his music.
This is one of two Motown covers that were big hits for Johnny. This one was originally by the Four Tops; the other was "Tracks of My Tears," originally by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. "Tracks" is a terrific song too. Johnny did a lot of cover tunes, and did them well.
Saw him live at the New York State Fair about 32 years ago for free in a courtyard concert. He was unbelievable. I had forgotten how many hits he had. I sat to listen because I loved "secret agent man." But then he started on his hits, and I was blown away. Then he did a fantastic cover of the Hollies song "He Ain't Heavy, He's, My Brother." It was classic Johnny crooning that great song! Great time and standing ovation from the small crowd wandering between buildings. It was a fun week. I saw Tony Bennett, Charlie Daniels, Paul Revere and the Raiders and more. It was a great time!
I’m with you Amber, Poor Side of Town was my song, along with Billy Joe Royal singing, Down In The Boondocks… both perfectly describing my poor side of town situation , as a youngster.
Johnny Rivers wasn't only a singer. He was a guitarist and a performer. He wrote "Poor Side Of Town" which was a Number One Hit. He was a record producer and promoted The Fifth Dimension. And more. Get this man into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!, With humble apologies for the delay. 🎶✨
Mountain of love is one of his best. When I was in junior high, we’d couples roller skate to this along with others like “long cool woman in a black dress” and many wore. Mountain of love also contains one of the best harmonica solo’s ever.
Fifteen years after this song was released, Carl Carlton's cover of this track came out, in 1982. Recorded at a faster tempo for the disco crowd, it was all over the air waves - and filling the dance floors beyond capacity in the clubs!
Another great song from the 70's is by The 5th Dimension "California Soul" is a stone cold classic, and five amazing voices. Please give us some more 5th Dimension.
Love Johnny River!!! Love "Secret Agent Man" by Johnny! Love this song, "Baby I Need Your Lovin'" by him. Good reaction. When I hear this song I thought he was from Motown when I hear this song on the radio. Amber is correct...he does sound like he is from Motown, but remember The Beatles and The Motown sound was everywhere and influenced artists every where. So, I really not surprise that Johnny and other artists sounded like Motown.
My FAV JR Alltime HIT! I agree with J, JR has a kind of South and/or Country sound! J's Violins & Beautiful Backup Singers with a building 'Gospel-type- sound! Love IT!!! Great Choice, You Guys! Glad You made it to This One! :)
I started listening to popular music in 1977 , but often loved listening to music from the 60s as well and Johnny Rivers was one of my favorites from that time.
Johnny is one of the greatest singers ever one of my favorites. Another great singer is GENE PITNEY. 60s Only Love can Break a Heart, Half Heaven Half Heartache, It Hurts to Be in love and more. I believe many would enjoy them reacting to them.
This was originally a Four Tops song. "Rockin' Pneumonia" was originally by Huey "Piano" Smith. "Secret Agent Man" was first recorded by The Challengers. "Memphis" was Chuck Berry. "Poor Side of Town" was ... OK, that was a Rivers original, and he in fact co-wrote it. I'm not dissing him. A lot of his recordings were covers, but he made them his own. He had a great voice and a great style.
Guys this song was a remake by the Four Tops in 1964 Johnny's version reached number 3 on the Billboard pop singles chart in 1967 Johnny did a lot cover songs but one of his last hit songs was from 1977 a very good romantic ballad Slow Dancing (swaying to the music) Amber it's soft rock from the 70s. keep up the great work guys
This is a Motown song , originally by The Four Tops in 1964; Johnny Rivers covered it 3 years later. As much as I like Johnny Rivers, the original is a better version. Check it out. Y’all haven’t done a day of covers in a while.
Love your channel. You 2 are just too much fun, thank you for the smiles you've brought me. I don't think you've reacted to Led Zeppelin, Since I've been loving you, live from Madison Square Garden 1972. Legendary performance, you should definitely check it out. Thanks again and much love ❤️
This was a 1967 cover of The Four Tops' first big hit from 1964. You should hear their version and then more of their hits. Johnny also had a hit covering Smokey Robinson's classic Tracks of My Tears and Chuck Berry's Memphis, Tennessee. Summer Rain would be a good choice for Johnny's next hit to hear.
Johnny Rivers, getting his Motown on; excellent cover of this Four Tops song. Check it out, Johnny’s cover of Smokey Robinson, and the miracles, the tracks of my tears.
I saw Johnny Rivers at a free concert at the park when I was a teenager. I don't remember being impressed then but the more I think about it the more I realize how many good songs he really has.
Johnny Rivers was definitely one of ghe all time guests I am over 70 snd grew up listening to Johnny Rivers and tons of other greats. I feel so lucky that I grew up during the greatest music time in history. Hey I have a suggestion that you play the artist Blosdom Deary singing Surrey with the fringe on top. Just a suggestion.
We went to immigrant lake in Ashland Oregon for 4th of July celebration and he played on the main stage! This was a long time ago but what a great concert right before the fireworks!
Slow Dancing Swayin To The Music is another slow song by Johnny Rivers👍✌️
"Slow Dancing (Swaying to the Music)" was his last major hit (1977), and is one of his very finest.
