So many 60's songs for you to hear. Johnny Rivers' greatest talent was finding promising acts and producing their records. There are many people that owe a debt to Johnny Rivers for their success.
Johnny Rivers was an artist my older brother introduced me to in my single digit years in the mid 60's. Rivers is 78 now. The album he had (I still have it!) was 'Johnny Rivers Changes'. I didn't know it until years later, but the 'Changes' part of it was that he was a regular at 'The Whiskey A-Go-Go' on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, CA. singing, what was considered at the time pure hard rock & roll. It was considered antithetical to the 'squares' of the previous generation born in the 40's & 50's. When he did this 'Changes' album, he covered a dozen or so romantic ballads and 'love songs' like 'Poor Side of Town' (he wrote this song), 'Baby I Need Your Lovin', 'Tracks of my Tears', 'By the Time I get to Phoenix', 'Summer Rain' and, one of my favorites, 'California Dreamin'. He has a unique voice and vocal technique for sure. BTW... Rivers recorded the title song for the late night concert-influenced TV show 'The Midnight Special'. :)
Love Johnny Rivers.....seen him at Ocean City MD, years ago, was with my 8 year old daughter, loved him then, love him now, my daughter is now 38 years old and every time we hear his song, she just smiles and says hey, remember Dad!!! Oh by the way, why oh why, isn't Johnny in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Johnny's sooo good. He did some fabulous covers of Motown songs. If I hear a Johnny Rivers song when I'm station hopping in my car, I will stop & listen. So many good ones! This was his only #1 song. He was also a mover & shaker. He started his own label & signed on The 5th Dimension & was credited in giving Jimmy Webb his big break (thank you Johnny, for that!)
One of my favorite sings of all time. I have promised my wife that I would not sing in the car when she is asleep unless this song comes on. Then the volume is going up(a little) and I am singing along with Mr. Rivers. You are right, in incredibly good song and artist.

Hey Rob and Amber, thanks for another great reaction! I certainly encourage you to try the other commenter's suggestions for Johnny Rivers' other great songs! But here's a group from that era that you may also want to check out: GARY PUCKETT and THE UNION GAP, with such timeless hits as LADY WILLPOWER, YOUNG GIRL, THIS GIRL IS A WOMAN NOW, and OVER YOU, to name just a few. Also, have you reacted to GLEN CAMPBELL yet? With memorable hits such as: WICHITA LINEMAN, GALVESTON, BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX, DREAMS OF THE EVERYDAY HOUSEWIFE, RHINESTONE COWBOY, and many more too! From the 1970's and early 80's, you probably will also like: BREAD (with lead singer DAVID GATES) with hits such as MAKE IT WITH YOU, EVERYTHING I OWN, IF (yes, it's a short title, isn't it?), BABY IM-A WANT YOU, DIARY, AUBREY, IT DON'T MATTER TO ME, LOST WITHOUT YOUR LOVE, and more! You'd also like almost any song by the artist LOBO, or the group AMERICA, or even THREE DOG NIGHT! And Rob, I know that BARRY GIBB is your man! But don't forget to check out more BARRY MANILOW, because you've already reacted to his song MANDY. Well, he's got a LOT of other great songs too! For something more uptempo from BARRY MANILOW, please check out his popular hit COPA CABANA, or the much less remembered song NEW YORK CITY RHYTHM... It will surprise you Rob! And Rob, there's another "Barry" that you might learn to appreciate as well: BARRY WHITE! Check him out, dude! Johnny Rivers...extremely underrated performer and songwriter. He had a unique voice, very recognizable. This is one of those songs he wrote!! Written in the style of Motown, he obviously respected Motown artists, covered Baby I Need Your Lovin'. He sang the original Secret Agent Man, which became a big hit, for the short lived TV series in the USA aka Danger Man in UK, which ran longer in the UK. Secret Agent Man was reused /redone later for movies decades later.

Rockabilly in it's finest. Johnny Rivers is one of my favorite artist from my youth. Thank you for this.
I agree with Jesse Diaz, "Slow Dancing, swaying to the music" is awesome. It's also the first song I dedicated to my wife (married 27 years now).
Slow Dancing made me a Johnny Rivers fan back in the day.
Grew up when his songs got plenty of AM radio play .. still on my playlist
Again, Rob and Amber, thank you so much for taking the time, and making the effort to listen to all these timeless OLD SCHOOL hits!
Wow, I'm sure I've heard this a long time ago but I've never listened to the lyrics and I love the message, thanks for doing this it was kinda new to me also.👍
I always loved that guitar hook most of all, but the lyrics are most excellent too! I was 8 years old and my home town team the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the Grey Cup for the first time that year! 🎸💘😏
Beautiful song, The Blossoms on background,.
Secret Agent Man and Baby I Need your Lovin, were great Johnny Rivers songs.
it is the feel and timing that makes Johnny so fabulous! very expressive.
Johnny Rivers - "Slow Dancing" is a must!!!
This is my favorite song from him. It had a special effect on me as listening to the lyrics, telling the plan truth 🎶
The 60s had so many great songs. I would recommend Dion's Abraham, Martin and John. It is an absolute must listen.
PIANO, “Rockin Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu” by Rivers is a MUST!
I love this track. Chords, lyrics, but especially the gorgeous backup vocals (Darlene Love is in there, they say) and that lofty flute high above like a bird in the trees.
Slow Dancin', Swayin' to the Music is one of the best love songs ever written.
GAAAHHH! I promise you guys read my mind with this one! One of my mama's favs! Thank you guys for your infectious positivity 🙏🏻 just discovered y'all and I'm a complete fan! Lots of love from Texas 🇨🇱🥰
