  • Today we look at the emotions of the Musky Slump, and how hard it is to overcome.
This one hit me hard, and I wasn't sure how to get through it.
Between Dave, Kyla and my buddy Kyle Friedges we found a way!
Shout out to the Abels, some of my most dear friends and fishing partners. We broke the slump!

Slumps can really suck. Some years I only get out a handful of times. Going a season without a tug can deflating. Still you never give up.

This makes me feel better … just got back from a 4 day trip and the struggle was real and we had all the feelings. 7 of us got two and we barely saw any, but grateful
To be out there. It happens to everyone.

You gave everything you had for us on Perrault and we were incredibly happy to spend time with you and to learn the lake in greater detail. I realize you're frustrated right now, but that's fishing. We were incredibly impressed overall.
Just stay focused and realize that the first few weeks have been a challenge.
It's like I say to my boys and my staff all the time "I never promised it would be easy, I promised it would be worth it."
    Chin up!

Great video Glen, anyone who musky fishes has endured a slump. 2022 was my worst year ever fishing. Been a tough start this year as well but hoping it improves. Geat breakdown on the spot and video. Keep up the great work brother.

I put over 100 hours in this spring, most on the river, some follows, one bite, and none landed. And now it's far too hot to fish.
This sport is what you make of it. There's a lot to be said about what drives you at the end of the day to get out there again. With obligations and responsibilities, this becomes all the more challenging.
If they bit every day and we landed every fish we wouldn't do this. And despite how time consuming this hobby is, all of us make some time to do it. Life is also about the moments that go by when you're not doing what you wish you were doing. There's certainly more of those on some days than others. You might not remember that. You will definitely remember the next time you bring a fish to the net and land it. They gotta eat some time.
    Good luck & tight lines.

This video gives you more credibility in my book. Some guys paint a pretty picture and state they never fail. Musky fishing can be tough at times. All of a sudden you start questioning everything you do. You even lose confidence in your GO TO bait and start throwing the kitchen sink at them and your milk run disappears. Appreciate your honesty and know you’ll start popping them daily in the near future.
    Another awesome post!

Fishing has been absolotely brutal for me here in Quebec(brown watet) this year. Water levels are way too high and fish are impossible to find. Last year was a record year for me with giant fish hitting the net with regularity. Back to the grind!

As a guide, I used to stress this a lot. But what I've learned is that it's fishing. We can only do so much, but at the end of the day, it's still up to the fish to cooperate. Never give up because those fish will light up and all those tough days will not be remembered anymore.

It's tough down in MN too. It's not just a Canada thing. Sure the guides who stick to one body of water will have their pattern dialed fishing every day. But every person I know who only fishes weekends and/or after work is struggling to some degree or another. We're all in this together, even if it means struggling together 😂

Head up Glenn. Focus on getting your boat where you want it. Then show us all the goodie’s of course 😎. Don’t get discouraged. Remember some of us haven’t even caught a Musky yet and still go out and grind as much as they can 😉. Of course, nothing discourages me more than someone catching Musky on my target lake with Corn or the once in a lifetime possibility a state record catch for a 12yr old boy on the same lake. All this year. Congrats to the boy if coarse. Does it stop me on my quest? It’s crazy to think that my Musky tackle is almost as much as my boat and electronics. But I will still grind. And thanks to you my wife is just as crazy about catching a Musky as I am. You tell us all the time to keep a great attitude. If I can. So can you because it will come 😎🤘

Volatile weather patterns constant wond shifts and barometer shifts this early season has created havoc on trying to pattern this season. Been sticking to one bait u know which one it is but working slower or more aggressive has been putting fish in the bag the moment I veer off this I start second guessing myself and frustration kicks in thenni find myself reverting back to the same bait and I've found success.

Ok. Everyone follows common practices with musky fishing. Moon cycles, bite windows, weather fronts. Even following those theories can cause frustration.
Let mother nature tell you when they will bite. Birds, turtles, and frogs will tell you when to fish. Without depending on your electric tools.
I consider myself spoiled because 75% of the musky waters around here are rivers. Large lakes like Eagle, present obstacles we don't don't co tend with often.
While working with the fresh water hall of fame in Hayward WI, and trolling lake superior. We have learned fish movements and bite windows.
We have adopted the confidence technique. The additude of the angler has much more to do with success.
We have caught more fish outside of bite windows by watching other wildlife. When water fowl are leaving the area.....fish as hard as you can.
