I saw Sonny Burgess with the Sun Rhythm Section in 1989 along with Paul Burlison, D.J. Fontana, Stan Kesler and other Sun Studios musicians at the Vancouver Folk Festival and the Commodore Ballroom...great rock 'n' roll from the original artists at venues where you could really enjoy and appreciate them.
Very impressive, exciting performance, first class Rockabilly! Sonny has the same power as he had on his legendary Sun recordings 40 years earlier! Both Sonny and Flores are also very able to handle the guitar, fantastic solos! One of the best Rockabilly recordings of the Nineties!
Back in the days...way back in the days...in the clubs of L.A. in the mid 1980s...there was Rosie Flores and Dwight Yoakam playing in the kind of clubs that had sawdust on the floor...often down out in "the Valley". They both had, I think, one album out, their first. And I gotta say, Rosie was a way better act than Dwight, hands down, more passionate, more exciting, more soulful, with a brilliant voice. So...what happened? For God knows what reason, the commercial powers that be decided to turn Yoakam into a household name as if he were the greatest thing since sliced cheese...and Rosie was left to pursue her career in relative obscurity by comparison... Pfffft. If you hang around long enough in this world, you see it all, it's all obvious.
Rosie is adorable....until she digs into that Strat, then she's just plain ferocious!

Same here, in Memphis, TN. The year was 1990 or 1991 can't seem to remember exactly.
