He was my girlfriends neighbor at an apartment complex in Houston Texas in the early 80s. We were invited to his apartment and I noticed him in all these pictures with the Stones, The Who, and a bunch of other bands. I said who are you again, and he said who he was when he introduced himself in the firstplace, I didn't really put it together until seeing the pictures on the wall. We talked for quite some time, he was already in a wheel chair then. He said he had only 3 things of any real value, and the IRS wanted to take them from him. A Chet Atkins signature guitar, I believe there was a Siver anniversary Strat, and possibly the only tortus shell bass in the world. That may have been a gift..not sure now, it was a long time ago. He said the money raised for him to pay medical bills somehow got him in trouble with the IRS, could we please keep his guitars for a while. He was with a very attractive brunette who's name I don't recall. I've been telling this story for many years. My girlfriend was from Middlesex, and that apartment complex was full of people from Europe. I've been playing guitar for about 45 years, meeting him, hearing his story, and finding him to be such a great guy was such a wonderful experience. I was a kid from MN that played in a little band in high school. And I got to help out a real rock star that paved the way for a lot of other musicians. How freaking cool is that! That meeting tells me he must have been a trusting guy, we had never talked before that day. Also,he said an allergist gave him the most relief from MS, maybe that still holds true. Would be great to have someone who knew him verify what I've shared. RIP
That’s a great story. Ronnie went from the highest of highs to the lowest lows. He sure as hell didn’t deserve to go out like that and we missed out on a real original who could write beautiful songs. He packed a-lot of life into those Small Faces - Faces- and Slim Chance years though. Boo Oldfield was probably the girl.
He is the most engaging, genuine talent who stayed true to his dreams. Sadly, he died young due to a swindle. Ronnie Lane did not deserve the cards he was dealt, but his music will always be somewhere in time and space. That makes me smile because his talent continues to shine.
This tune has the capability of making me happy and also cry at the same time. Also I remember exactly where I was and who I was with when I first heard it. Thank You Mr. Lane I miss you.
I saw him back in 1983 when they did a set of benefits for him. He could barely walk on stage; but I never saw a bigger smile than his when he thanked the audience and musicians in Dallas for the show. I barely knew his music before that show. That was 1983 and he was an "old man" to my eyes. I will be 54 in June. He died way, way too young. Such a sad end to such a personable man. I drive through Trinidad, CO several times a year. One of these days; I will visit his resting place in that hole-in-the-wall just to say thanks for the tunes. :/
No matter who you are or where you’re from you can relate to this song and that’s the best part about it. I can listen to this song on repeat, it’s so beautiful. Great group.
Looking back, I didn’t realise how talented this guy was. Also, it’s joyous to see him enjoying himself, his music and his young life. Tragic how things developed. Thank God we have him immortalised in video and music track. Thanks Danny. Miss you.
The line 💋I wish I knew then what I know now is equivalent to Bernard Shaw saying 💋oh how the youth is wasted on the young. Both of them were poets in their own right! 💋
Ooh La La and Debris are my two most favorite songs. I visited him a few times when he lived in Austin. He mentioned he'd spent a lot of time with his grandfather when he was a young lad. I wonder if his grandfather was in Paris during WWI.
The debris refers to the brick lane market that used to be on Sunday mornings in Bethnal Green area of East London, when I used to go there in the late 70s to the late 80s much of it was on the remains of knocked down houses, when Ronnie went there with his dad in the late 40s, early 50s? It was probably debris from bombed out houses from the blitz? The shop were Steve Marriot and Ronnie met for the first time is still there today, but it's not a record shop anymore, think it's a plumbing supply shop?
Got me old Small Faces/Faces/Slime Chance records out last week for the first time in a long long time & yeah the old buzz kicked in nicely. When Ronnie passed June 97 me & my then girlfriend sat out on our ledge of our window & got pissed on red wine & blasted the tunes.
I knew the "small faces" back in 1967 when one of the first different songs starting playing on my local top 40 station I thought it was a cool song. I was the oldest in my family and really had no older mentors to talk rock smack to. So exposure to "good music" was until I got to college. But even then I did not broaden my taste enough. But thanks to youtube and wikipedia I started finding out who the small faces/faces were all about. Steve Marriott, Ian McLagan, Kenny Jones and Ronnie Lane. And as my fellow Christian would say "I saw the Light". I wished I had found out about Ronnie a long time ago. A masterful singer-songwriter and story teller. Unfortunately MS cut his life short. But thanks to youtube we have videos and can still listen to this great performer.
thanks for sharing. Here in the states we didn't get a chance to see them and radio play was scarce. I loved this band since 'Itchycoo Park and later 'Ogden's" . I love seeing these old vids.
this is one of the songs that somehow changed my life and this live version is my favourite. It makes me feel so happy, one of these little reminders of the things I love about music.
LOVELY BLOKE !!!! ........ i remember the tribute paid on Radio 1 by "Mark and Lard" on his passing through MS .......... they stopped the show when they found out and got Itchykoo Park !!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant!!! Saw Ronnie and the band at Sheffield Polytechnic sometime back in the seventies. Just like this with Ronnie's wife dancing (Is that you Plonk??). Still listen to his stuff all the time.
I was only a year old when this was shown but I’ve great memories of music like the smalls and the faces which I grew up with ! RIP Ronnie - a real talent for a reason , unlike today as everyone is famous for nothing !!
Don't let his one chord playing here confuse you... he was the top bass player in 1971 when I filmed him with Rod, Ian and Kenny at Baltimore's Civic Cntr.

Wow. What a story. Sad ending to such a legend
Did you ever take the guitars and what happened to them
I visited Ronnie’s grave in Trinidad Colorado. I sat there quietly and played this song and Debris on my I pod. All respect Ronnie. We miss you
Nice
A wonderful tribute. It's something patti Smith might do.
Thank you- i wanna go there ….🎃
Way cool...play this on guitar too....luv it.
I think Ronnie was so underestimated but he was a brilliant musician who enjoyed what music he made. Sleep well Ronnie
Definitely, but when your in a group with a certain Mr Marriott your gonna struggle being heard.
Dont forget rod Stewart was in the band too
Ronnie, grandissimo musicista!!
Totally agree 💯
I love this man. I only have to hear his name I have to smile. Where ever you are I hope I end up there.
Wow, great version. And the girl doing the Cancan was cool

Does anyone else smile as much when they sing as Ronnie did. Miss this guy.
The way he looks up and smiles. So charming. Reminiscent of a Minstrel entertaining the Court. I love this song.
Yes, a Brazilian singer called Elis Regina!
One of those songs that make you happy and sad at the same time.
This tune has the capability of making me happy and also cry at the same time. Also I remember exactly where I was and who I was with when I first heard it. Thank You Mr. Lane I miss you.
Yes
Paulie Bots Pauline, you've hit the nail on the head. Thanks mate, nothing more to say. Such a sad ending to a talented life. God bless you kid x
Paulie Bots and a stunning partner too. Sorry for calling you Pauline however, but it may catch on xxxxxx
I couldn't have put it better
Yea, I wish. The woman i admire are just take advantage of me. Such a foolish young man...
This is one of the best songs ever. Goosebumps every time.
Biddy Wright the most underrated afro/funk/etc bass player of all time is on the groove if anyone was wondering :)
I was six years old when this was recorded. I really do wish...Miss my grandads.

May God bless you and your family brother, that's a beautiful story.
Thank you for sharing : )
Oh Ronnie, How the whole world misses you. ❤️
No matter who you are or where you’re from you can relate to this song and that’s the best part about it.
I can listen to this song on repeat, it’s so beautiful. Great group.
Couldn't agree more! 😂 & 😢
The one and only April Fool, Mr. Ronald Frederick Lane! Sadly missed, but never forgotten..........
That immense spirit in that little body, you knew it just had to bust out sooner or later. Thank you Ronnie Lane, musician, muse magician.
This is probably as much fun as I've ever seen a group of musicians having together. They're all just in it every step of the way.
He was such a good and cheer full musician. You can tell he loved it. I hope his soul is singing on.
Looking back, I didn’t realise how talented this guy was. Also, it’s joyous to see him enjoying himself, his music and his young life. Tragic how things developed. Thank God we have him immortalised in video and music track. Thanks Danny. Miss you.
Don’t think Ronnie will be sleeping , up in heaven making heavenly music.👍🙏🏴

There's something wonderful about this song

Ronnie Lane - Wherever you are, THANK YOU!
There is a place in my heart for Ronnie that will last an eternity.💕
The line 💋I wish I knew then what I know now is equivalent to Bernard Shaw saying 💋oh how the youth is wasted on the young. Both of them were poets in their own right! 💋
Aside from the passion of Ronnie singing this song ....I really love the can-can action :)
It is cute as heck. I believe the can-can lady was Ronnie's wife? (If so, lucky gal, LOL).
Ooh La La and Debris are my two most favorite songs. I visited him a few times when he lived in Austin. He mentioned he'd spent a lot of time with his grandfather when he was a young lad. I wonder if his grandfather was in Paris during WWI.
I lived next door to him in Austin back in the day.

Debris a fantastic song
Ronnie lane brilliant! Best musician of the faces by a country mile and brilliant with his own band.
still can't play this without weeping
Hard to express the joy watching this gives me! RIP Ronnie
Terrific through and through. Ronnie's playful expressions and clear delight remind me of Keith Moon.
A timeless classic for me from the late great Ronnie Lane
This song always gives me goose bump to hear and with Ronnie's passing tears.
What a jewel, I love this song!
Rough mix is one of my favorite albums of all time. 😢

Still only 10 ....still pay his stuff whenever I can. Classic music. I wish i knew what i know now when I was younger.
Ronnie non viene mai ricordato, dopo tutto quello che ha suonato, vissuto, subito, vent'anni di una malattia che lo ha portato alla morte!
Happy Birthday Ronnie.. You may be twinkling with the stars but your joyful music lives on.. God bless x
How fucking great was this man..
mick destiny He had more heart than just about any musician alive. Jaco Pastorius was another, but a different style of music and artist.
Met him in a pub in Churchstoke and he was just another regular. Sadly missed but thankful for his wonderful music.
Ronnie Lane ❤❤❤
Magnifique
