- Thank you to the Sherman Brothers for making a big world feel smaller ✨
Watch ‘The Last Verse’, a 60th anniversary tribute to “It’s A Small World” now.
Award-winning songwriting duo Robert and Richard Sherman wrote some of the most classic scores in history, including Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and the most-played tune around the globe, “It’s A Small World.” As his last contribution to Disney and to further influence the song’s message, Richard wrote a third, final verse for “It’s A Small World.” In this short film, in honor of the song’s 60th anniversary, we follow the track as it travels across the globe, passing from one person and generation to the next, until the final verse is revealed.

A Little Disney History: From humble beginnings as a cartoon studio in the 1920s to its preeminent name in the entertainment industry today, Disney proudly continues its legacy of creating world-class stories and experiences for every member of the family.
Massive respect to Disney for actually paying tribute to the Sherman brothers
Couldn't have said it any better
And now the piano in Walt's office has no player. Only Richard was allowed to touch those keys.
Thank you, brothers. Music and film will never be the same.
I was afraid someone would be at that piano playing and I was so relieved when the seat was revealed to be vacant.
@@waynofourI'd imagine to would be a CGI model of a ghost Richard Sherman, playing to a young Walt (also a ghost).
Maybe it will again someday. As much as I appreciate the gesture of respect, it also makes me sad to think of no one ever playing it again.
From "Feed The Birds" to "One Little Spark" to "It's a Small World After All" and to the many more amazing pieces of work they've made, I am so thankful that they've made memories of music as a treasure. Thank you Sherman Brothers for everything you did for Disney! We really miss you!
Nothing those two wrote would beat “There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow.”

"there's so much that we share..that it's time we're aware..." one of the most meaningful lyrics out there
In the words of Richard and Robert Sherman, the song for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair was conceived as a "prayer for peace."
Don't tell me Disney can't pull on our heartstrings anymore. More of this please.
Thank you to the Sherman Brothwrs for all you've given the world through your music. you've forever changed an entire century of generations.
You’re welcome 😉
Sherman wrote music for Once Upon A Studio in 2023
A Disney legend that lived a wonderful life.
Thank you, Mr. Sherman- for everything.
Thank you, Sherman Brothers, for everything you've done for Disney.
You’re welcome 😇
Mother Earth unites us in heart and mind, and the love we give makes us humankind. Through our vast wondrous land, when we stand hand in hand, it’s a small world after all.
🥲 Rest in peace, Richard and Robert Sherman. Thank you for all you gave to us, through your music and the stories it helped to tell. Bless you.
Am I sobbing uncontrollably over one of the most annoyingly catchy songs in history while I get ready to visit my Grandma for Thanksgiving?
...Yes
Thank you Sherman Brothers, for helping make the beautiful soundtrack of our childhoods ❤
This is pure Disney Magic. Thank you Walt, thank you Sherman Brothers. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
These song lyrics hit even harder today!
No other songwriters quite like the Sherman Brothers.
Thank you, Sherman Brothers, for writing songs for The Parent Trap, The Jungle Book and other movies. Thank you for making this possible on Walt Disney studios. RIP.
They created the soundtrack to multiple generations of children around the world. For that and So Much More, I am eternally grateful. 💜
What a beautiful tribute to the Sherman brothers! This is so well done, thank you Disney!
Richard Sherman, you really have road the most beautiful extra verse of it’s a small world ever to be heard. May you and your brother Robert Sherman rest in peace.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Mr. Sherman.
As my two year old son was waking up this morning, he was lying down on the couch as I was watching the documentary about the 60th anniversary of Mary Poppins. It’s on Disney +. The show concludes with this short film. When the new verse began to be sung, I heard a little voice singing next to me. My son has never heard this song before I swear and here he is singing along to its new verse. I broke down pretty bad.
That’s so wonderful. 🥹 May he grow up always holding the message of that verse and song close.
One of the highlights of my life was in 2014, a Club 33 event where I got to meet Richard Sherman. They moved 1/4 of the seats out of the Tiki Room and put in a baby grand piano. I got to see him play live. The thing that stuck with me was his genuine love of music. It wasn't about him, there was no ego involved whatsoever, the music was his passion and he loved writing it and playing it.
What a cool thing to have in 2024. Thanks, Mr. Sherman.
With every ending comes a new beginning. Disney will live on!
Well done Disney, please do more of this. Thank you Sherman Brothers, for all the smiles 🫶🏻
I alway remember you the Sherman Brothers bring so much joy and musical to the world. It so hard to say goodbye to people to love and dear to your heart Shermans brothers has bring giving the gift of music for all. Thank You for everything REST IN PEACE.
This made me cry 😭 I needed this so much right now after everything that’s happened in the past few weeks. Thank you, Sherman brothers for everything you did for us 💞
Same here. This song just proves that there are still good things left in this world and I know that in 2024 it has just been complete madness and I know there’s a lot of broken hearts out there especially after what happened with the US election and stuff like but I’m just gonna say this as long as you keep having hope in your life things will get better
Thank you boys, for making the world a better and nicer place, one song at a time. The Sherman borthers will be remembered for ever more!
This makes me cry once again Disney you have brought my childhood in me out again
Beautiful. Just. Beautiful. We’ll miss you Sherman Brothers. 🥺
Awwww. 💔😔 Such a touching tribute to two Disney legends. R.I.P., Shermans. Thanks for all the music, and now, wherever you both are, you're together again.
This put me to tears. Thank you Sherman Brothers for everything. Thank you for the songs of our childhood.😢 We will never forget you.
I'm not crying, you're crying... 🥺
I can feel that too 😢
No i'm not, YOU ARE 😭
Thank you Sherman Brothers for your amazing Disney Songs from It's a Small World and One Little Spark.
It’s Small world is and will always be my favorite song not just how annoyingly catchy it is, but the magnificent of an Art-form it had. it was when i researched the history and the message Walt wanted to spread, i just fell in love with it so much.
This song and the ride introduced me to so many friendships, it has inspired me to become more creative. Thank you Sherman Brothers for creating this magnificent song. Even though the world is horrible right now this song will forever remain in my heart.
The creative team behind this needs a raise. The cinematography, the choice to stitch it together the way they did. This is so well done.
I've been on this wonderful boat ride many times, but this might be the first time this song brought me to tears.
I was watching the. Mary Poppins tribute special that aired on Wednesday, and I'm glad I got to see it all along with this short film that was shown! Those brothers did an awesome job with their music! May they rest in peace.
That's so touching. We shall miss the Sherman Brothers, although they appeared in the 2009 documentary about their life like Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, two of Walt Disney's Nine Old Men did for theirs back in 1995 around the releases of Pocahontas, A Goofy Movie and Toy Story.
1:38 - 1:44
Scar: No! No! Anything but that.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
This one has all the laughs.😅
I hate that movie, but I LOVE that scene!
@@OliveNLuvCan you explain why you hate the Lion King?
@@stefmonterrosa6818 The music is good, the story itself is meh. Yes, I know Disney is known for remaking fairytales, myths, and legends and whatnot, but adapting a Shakespeare work (Hamlet) into a movie was not their best move! The Lion King is like The Greatest Showman: great music, terrible story.
@OliveNLuv oh I see. Well, I myself enjoy the story and music of the Lion King. I respect your opinion though. Thanks for explaining, I am open minded to different opinions. Could you tell what you think of Timon and Pumbaa?
May the Sherman brothers be in our hearts. Amen.
Thank you, Sherman Brothers, for the songs of our childhood, you're melodies will live on forever as well as your legacy's. we will miss you!
So many wonderful songs and music created by two special brothers. R.I.P, Sherman Brothers.🙏🏻💐🕊 Thank you for everything you did for Disney! You'll both be sorely missed.😢
Was one of the luckier ones to see this first-hand back in D23 and I found myself crying alongside many other Disney fans.
Today even though it’s Thanksgiving and I’m somewhat alone, the whole thing made my cry the second time.
The Sherman Brothers were truly the heart and soul of Disney fans all over the world, but it feels nice being able to share their legacy with so many fans young and old.
May these two legends rest in peace!
🕊️ 🐭✨
I remember going to Magic Kingdom with my mom back in 2019 and I hadn't been back since I was in kindergarten in 02 and I just remember riding small world and just how happy she was on it just meant so much to me. It's her favorite attraction at wdw. It's since become one of my most treasured memories and I just want to say thank you Walt and all the talented Imagineers and thank you Robert and Richard Sherman for creating something so precious to me.
This is so moving! I had tears in my eyes. RIP Richard and Robert Sherman!
Just like Walt Disney, I'm very thankful to The Sherman Brothers for not only making songs come true out of dreams and imagination, but changing the future after all. I've grown up with their musical contributions whenever I watch classic Disney films of the past century since when I was younger. Nobody else make songs like this but Sherman Brothers.
There is something so sweet in this video, it brings tears to my eyes because it brings memories of our trips to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. So many beautiful memories.
That made me tear up. Their music was a part of my entire life.. I've never liked the tune of that iconic song, but I love the lyrics. I avoided the ride like the plague whenever I went to Disneyland. 😅 However... I think I'll go on it the next time I go, kinda as a way to pay my respects to the two brothers who made me feel a twinge of hope for humanity whenever that ear worm came on.
I'll forever miss them. Mary Poppins is one of my favorite old Disney movies. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it since childhood.
Thank you, Sherman Brothers, for making my and millions of other childhoods whimsical, magical, and fun. ❤️
I can speak for most of us in the world when I say I am eternally grateful for the beautiful music the Sherman Brothers gave us. Thank you, Robert and Richard Sherman. For everything.
Que visionarios los hermanos Sherman y Walt Aunque ya no estén aquí... Muchas gracias por haber hecho todo lo que hicieron
Mary Poppins is my absolute favorite Disney movie and all the Sherman’s songs are classics. This song is especially poignant because I am a travel advisor and it’s illustrates why we need to travel and embrace other countries and cultures.
"Let's Go Fly A Kite", "It's A Small World After All", "A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow", "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", and so much more. These two will forever be known as two of the greatest song writers in history. Their songs will live on in movies and park rides for generations, and people will be humming them no matter how old they are.
So on behalf of everyone, I must say...thank you Sherman Brothers. For make the world a little smaller, a little more peaceful, and a lot more fun.
In the words of Richard and Robert Sherman, the song for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair was conceived as a "prayer for peace."
The pavilion, before it became an attraction at Disneyland, was dedicated as a salute to UNICEF, the United Nations Education Fund.
Thank you, Sherman Brothers, for writing to wonderful songs that we all knew and loved very much from the movies such as:
1. The Parent Trap (1961)
2. Mary Poppins
3. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
4. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
5. The Sword in the Stone
6. The Jungle Book
7. Charlotte's Web (1973)
8. The AristoCats
9. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
10. The Happiest Millionaire
11. Snoopy Come Home
12. Welcome To Pooh Corner (1983) TV Series
13. Little Nemo Adventure in Slumberland (1992)
14. The Tigger Movie
and of course
15. It's A Small World After All attraction ride Disneyland.
Even if war arises, even if hatred divides the nations, the light will endure. The legacy of Sherman brothers will inspire a new generation that will also carry the light with strength. For the seek of pure love and pure peace, thank you.
Thank you for all the magic you guys brought and continue to bring to this small world we live in!
I usually known the Sherman Brothers for their music in some of my favorite Winnie the Pooh movies but this is a nice tribute as it also hitted me right in the feels imo.
Thanks, Sherman Brothers for everything you've done for Disney, we'll really miss you.
🥲
Crying my eyes out here-this is genuinely beautiful. A beautiful tribute to a beautiful song and the beautiful careers of two brothers who've made living here in this "small world" a whole ton brighter.
Thank you so much, Richard and Robert Sharman.
this brings a whole new meaning to this song now, thanks sherman
Very sweet! I will always remember, when I saw Mary Poppins for the very first time and was enchanted by "Feed the birds".
I'm really happy that the Sherman Brothers gave us so many classics to grow up with that stuck around throughout several generations. And that they got to live long enough to see how what they've created impacted countless children and children at heart.
Thank you, Richard and Robert. ❤
Also, on a separate note, Disney PLEASE don't flag this for kids, let people comment on this. 🙏
That new and last verse of the song, sounds very good. It can suit the song by an extra extense for its special edition.
So many memories ❤
Thanks for all the magic you brought with music... 🥺
Brothers are together again.
Thank you Sherman Brothers! I would have heard of it’s a small world and songs of Mary Poppins if it wasn’t for you two
The Sherman Brothers was best known for musical score for Mary Poppins and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
even Jungle Book
The Banks' residence from both Mary Poppins movies like the books was added to Epcot's England pavilion. The house of the Darling family and Cruella De Vil's car can be added to it too.
Disney should add this special verse to the attraction.
Also RIP to the Sherman Brothers 😭
Thank you Sherman brothers for making children around the world whether big or small, disability, mental health issues, trauma, family problems feel safe to come to Disney to escape the world and have fun in our imagination.
Perhaps this song can play throughout Disneyland's 70th anniversary every once in a while.
Disney would’ve been nothing without the Sherman Brothers. They will definitely be missed.
Thank you Sherman brothers for the music of my childhood and bringing so much joy and happiness to so many people
6 decades of making this world so small thank u Sherman brothers for make our childhood so bright
Thank you for my making my childhood special 😢😢
Thank you very much, Sherman Brothers, for giving the world all these classic songs to sing along to. You'll be missed, but definitely not forgotten. 🎹🎼🎶🎶🎵😢😢💔💔🕊️
Extraordinarily powerful video, Disney!
The Sherman Brothers have made an immeasurable impact on music and entertainment.
😢 I was not expecting to bawl my eyes out today
The Sherman brothers are a legend as old as time they will be missed
I really loved it's a small world...!! Their songs were so nice to hear...!
Thank you, Sherman brothers for everything you have been done so far at Disney. you’ve changed the world through music.
I was unaware of this tribute until now, almost a year after Richard Sherman's passing. Thank you, Sherman brothers, for bringing us unforgettable musical pieces for history.
without the sherman brothers, all of those that we would have in the disney renaissance and so on wouldn't exist. they laid the foundation and blueprint in which those songwriters learned from. thank you richard and robert. we will miss you both.
My mom cried when I showed her this video. Thanks so much Sherman Brothers for your amazing work with The Walt Disney Company
saw this on TV when visiting my grandma a few weeks ago and now whenever i hear “it’s a small world” i burst into tears
Pretty cool dedication to the Sherman Brothers. My favourite part was when the Green-Day-esque part of the song started playing.
Absolutely incredible
There was even a Hallmark ornament shaped like the ride by the singing figures.
People may come and go, but all masterpieces and great effects they bring will stay forever... sweet memories shall be remembered just like we remember all wonderful people in the history of Disney🎉🎉❤❤who had brought us Disney till today.... "It's a small world after all...." 🤗🤗🤗🤗💖💖💖💖
A beautiful tribute to two of some of the most prolific composers in Disney history. I’ll admit I teared up quite a bit watching this.
They NEED to find a way to incorporate that last verse into the attraction itself.
I got a big respect for the song now. Thank you, Sherman Brothers ❤🌎
Farewell Sherman's Brothers. Thank you for reminding us It's A Small World After All.... always.
Darla and her dentist uncle from Finding Nemo had the same last name like the Sherman Brothers and two men were cast for the roles as the brothers themselves in the documentary of the creation of Mary Poppins, based on P.L. Travers' famous books.
Thank you Sherman Brothers. Your songs helped me through some dark times. You really did make out large world feel a little bit smaller. You reminded us that all we need is one little spark of inspiration and that no matter how different everyone is, we're all united on one small, small world. Thank you, for everything. I know your legacy will live on for generations to come.
Rest well Sherman Brothers.
You did your work with fun, elegance and love.
This small world thanks you. 😢
Thank you, Richard and Robert Sherman, for became legends and a happiest family for Walt and the entire Disney Company and gave us such many, many classic songs as a life of our perfect nanny, our silly old bear, a book about a man-cub and his jungle friends and feel this world is smaller.
We hope that there’s always a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, waiting for us.
Rest in Peace. 💙💙
Thank You Sherman Brothers, From the bottom of all our hearts
What a beautiful song, I never knew the lyrics to this song and love the last verse added to the song. What a beautiful tribute to the Sherman Brothers. May they RIP.
Thanks Mr. Sherman for making the music of my favorite Winnie the Pooh movies.
I have few words that can express the great respect I have for these two men. They had seen and accomplished so many things that It can be almost incomprehensible for someone whom in comparison has barely began to live. I guess the greatest complement I could give is thank you two for bringing songs of joy to my great grandparent, my grandparents, my father, my mother, my brothers and me.
Rest in Peace, Sherman Brothers. And thank you both so much for making Disney songs a huge hit.❤️🙏🏻✝️
That final verse exemplifies the Olympic Motto and Anthem perfectly and I have a feeling it will be honored at the LA 2028 games.
Faster, Higher, Stronger, Together.
Even though I was born in 2007, this hits really hard. I've literally studied Disney my whole life, so the news in May that Richard has perished, was icredibly a very heartbreaking moment. We'll forever appreciate what thet gave the Disney Company, but also Walt himself. Walt really loved those guys, but they will now all reunite🤍
