Looking back at against me videos after not listening to them for years, makes you realise how fucking badass they were. Now that you know what Laura was dealing with in her head back then. They're the ultimate punk rock band.
+Jean-Luc Tallis Oh, I certainly understand the concept of it. It's just that back before our society lost their collective minds, we called that insanity. If you think your mind belongs in a different body, it's because you are insane and need treatment. Instead of celebrating insanity, I urge people to get the help that they need, and if they're beyond helping, they should be committed to asylums.
In the past 15 or so years Laura has made fantastic, succesful music that she has had the fortune to broadcast to the public. shes famous, rich successful, she has an amazing wife and a kid she loves greatly, now shes doing the last thing she needs to do to make herself truly happy. It wont be easy but when all is said and done she'll be happier than ever and she will still be the badass mastermind behind Against Me! and I still fucking love her!! Laura Jane Grace... Real Rockstar!
Punk is not the sound of the Music, it's the message of the song. This is as "poppy" as The Clash. No rightful "Punk" fan will say The Clash is NOT punk. There are many Punk artists who have Acoustic songs. For some reason People think Punk should never evolve, and if it doesn't fit THEIR definition of Punk, or if they sell more than 100,000 records then they are NOT Punk. Punk is NOT just playing as fast as possible, playing very loud, screaming into the mic, and moshing, it's about sending a message. IMO, Punk would do the world a lot better if they were able to spread their message to as many people as possible. You get popular and get your music playing to as many people as possible, THAT's the best way to do it. However, then you have people who think Punk is just doing what the majority of people don't do and "sticking it to the man" and not conforming to what corporate America wants you to be, which in that case, they really don't give a shit about Punk music, they just care about being against the grain.
I listen to the music and stand up. I'm open minded to other definitions. punk is a mindset and music. but if others have a different definition that's fine. punk is about being ur self and standing up what u believe in and sending a message
It's just that the Clash always flat out sucked. I hate lefty politics mixed with my music because I hate lefty politics in general and "woke" P.C. culture in particular. You boring nimrods spend your sad little lives looking for so-called "injustices" to be offended about.
I'm reading all of these hateful comments and really, all its making me think is how inspiring Laura is. She knew that she would get all this criticism but yet she still took such a grand leap of faith, setting such an amazing example. We love you hun, no matter who you are or what you do. Stay strong.
You guys were my heroes back in the early 2000s. You got me through drug addiction and a rough time in my teens. Thrash unreal was my theme song of the decade. Props to the against me fans That's been following them since sink Florida sink! And pints of Guinness make you feel strong. I had your eps on vinyl.
Tom Gabel has always been my idol and Laura is now my godsend, I came out to my best friend as Trans one week ago and a few others. I mean for her to come out now has only helped me, Laura I wish you the best of luck! You've changed my life more than anyone in such a positive way from angst teen years to dealing with my gender issues. THANK YOU!
Saw these guys live opening for the Red Hot Chili peppers like two years ago... This song was the one that really grabbed my attention. Good stuff, yo.
Love this song... My mums boyfriend always played it in the cAr so I thought why not I'll search it on UA-cam and now I can't stop watching it!!!!!!! 😍😍😍
at 1:26 when she says "smile for the camera *boys*" and grimaces,,, i highkey relate man that is exactly how i feel when someone calls me a girl. i don't know many other trans artists and i rlly appreciate how much i can relate to the only one i know
How come is it that I'm a fan of Against Me! and that I've heard this song many times in my life yet haven't realized it was by them... Somehow the connection never even happened in my head!
I've loved Against Me since "Re-inventing Axl Rose". Transgender Dysphoria Blues is (in my opinion) is their best work. But damnit, I have to be honest. I miss Warren!
this has to be my favorite against me! song. i adore laura’s vocals and the style of the band. i just got into them so if you have any recommendations, i’m open to them
Let's say you are an incredible baseball player. Everyone loves you because you're great with your fans, and you put up a good performance. But something about hockey is more appealing to you. So even though you're great at baseball, you're never reallyfeeling like yourself. Same applies here. Tommy was a dude, but never felt like he was truly being himself in a certain aspect of life life. Call it a choice, but its an incredibly brave and honest one to make. Best of luck Laura!
Im so happy laura is becoming who she is. Its so good shes breaking through no matter what others think. Rock on Laura i will love you no matter what. Haters grow up plz!
Thomas is growing into where he feels comfortable. i cant appreciate the journey, but i respect the person and the music. However saying he is a she because he wants to be recognised as a she is ridiculous. the band rocks. the lead singer is obviously a dude, with an amazing voice. saying he is a she is a lie because at the end of the day its sad that he has struggled with this his adult/teenage life it really is, but a chic doesnt have a dik. simple as that. and if society says a circle is square they can jam it because in time we will appreciate what a stupid statement that is. for reference, love the band, love the music and appreciate that each persons journey is different. but if you expect me to pretend that a circle is a square, you are dillusional...
Laura is going to be kick ass! Seriously thank you for your courage! I love this band and everyone in it. Regardless of bigots, there are always people who have your back.
Why is everyone so up in arms about what is and isn't punk, or what bands are pop punk (and therefore somehow don't count)? If you like it, rock out. If you don't then go listen to something you do and be thankful you have your own unique taste in music. I fricken' can't stand Shania Twain but I grit my teeth and smile when my friend wants to geek out to "Man! I Feel Like a Woman."
When I would crash at my best guy friends house every morning after drinking we would throw on Against me! And clean up all the emptys and spilt beer or booze loved them for so long ... Come to Waterloo Ontario Canada we would be so unbelievably happy!!!!
Tom Gabel the lead singer and founder of the hardcore band Against Me from Florida is now Laura Jane Grace and is still leading the band as a transgender woman who’s still married with a daughter ❤️🌸
@Rattnuff Its what ever you want it man dont let people tell you what it is, if you like it listen , dont like it skip it. I see every one makin it harder than it realy is.
I totally understand this. Plus Tom Gabel articulates some of this stuff in I Was A Teenage Anarchist. I am just super hopeful about folk-culture and it not being about the money and just being about the people around you. Bands music will naturally change of course like you said, but its more frustrating that they joined a big capitalist conglomerate of a record label.
I feel like when Against Me! was up-and-coming, music videos directors couldn't really figure out what to do with their vision and what they had to say. "Oh, you guys are like...edgy! Let's do edgy!"
Looking back at against me videos after not listening to them for years, makes you realise how fucking badass they were. Now that you know what Laura was dealing with in her head back then. They're the ultimate punk rock band.
It's really a shame he didn't get the psychological help he needed.
+svengoolie007 first she, and she did. She's a true punk badass
Pretty sure she will go down as one of the most iconic people in the history punk rock bro. That's like the opposite of ruining your career.
+Jean-Luc Tallis Oh, I certainly understand the concept of it. It's just that back before our society lost their collective minds, we called that insanity. +jakecat87 Ironically when New Wave came out everyone was crying "sell out".
I live for Laura smashing TVs and guitars. LIVE for it.
From Twitter: "The only change in my singing voice will be from the continued wear and tear from year after year on the road"
In the past 15 or so years Laura has made fantastic, succesful music that she has had the fortune to broadcast to the public. shes famous, rich successful, she has an amazing wife and a kid she loves greatly, now shes doing the last thing she needs to do to make herself truly happy. how punk is to label what is and isn't punk?
I'm sorry Riley I don't get what you mean.
The Clash is one of the founding bands of what punk is
I listen to the music and stand up. I'm open minded to other definitions. punk is a mindset and music. but if others have a different definition that's fine. punk is about being ur self and standing up what u believe in and sending a message

One of the most underrated rock songs ever made
I always enjoy a band giving their take on disco-rock/post-punk song
"Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand was good; THIS is much better!
I'm reading all of these hateful comments and really, all its making me think is how inspiring Laura is. She knew that she would get all this criticism but yet she still took such a grand leap of faith, setting such an amazing example. We love you hun, no matter who you are or what you do. Stay strong.
1:13 SUCH A FUCKING POWER STANCE I LOVE IT.
Never saw against me but saw Laura Jane grace this year at 2000 trees. Such a powerful voice and performance.
Kick ass...doesn't matter what Laura wants to be...incredible talent!!
Looks like she

had to make a serious decision.
YYYYYEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
The perfect song to play during timeouts in a hockey game
Jacob Engstrom Calgary Flames brought me here, they played it last night.
I am just so happy to see how many people are embracing her change. awesome
Stop take some time to think, figure out what's important to you. ♫♪
Every time you have a synchronicity like 11:11, 12:21, 12:12,13:13,14:14,15:15, etc on your clockwatches.
Or every time you feel a deja vu.

Jamming this after reading the "Rolling Stone" article. And in this moment, I have never been more proud to be a fan of this rockin' band!
I saw these guys open for the Foo Fighters... Loved them ever since. They are entertainers.
I saw these guys open live for the Foo Fighters... They put on an impressive show...

Interesting name for a person contemplating transition
heard this song 8 or 7 years ago on a commercial and never heard it all the way through and couldn't find it. so glad I finally found it!
Loved this song right from when I first heard it in 2008, wish it was longer! RIP replay button.

Saw these guys in concert a few months back at Rexall place in Edmonton with Billy Talent. Deadly show.
+Bethan Evans That's the step dad you're looking for then. lol.

Scotty baby!
Listening to this song for the first time, and I already fucking love it. I have concluded I love Laura's voice.
Ahhh sophomore year of high school MTV loved playing this song lmao
Tom or Laura.....Against Me! will forever have my support
at 1:26 when she says "smile for the camera *boys*" and grimaces,,, i highkey relate man that is exactly how i feel when someone calls me a girl. i don't know many other trans artists and i rlly appreciate how much i can relate to the only one i know
Laura is my hero! SUPPORT LAURA JANE GRACE! We love you!!!
this has got be be my favorite video of all time!
I miss Warren!
is that the weirdo drummer?
I had this song in my head all day because of the Rolling Stone article. Makes me wonder how Laura's transition will effect the band and her vocals.
this has to be my favorite against me! song. i adore laura’s vocals and the style of the band. i just got into them so if you have any recommendations, i’m open to them
Listen to "baby, I'm an anarchist" great tune
Now I remember why I didn't check out Against Me! sooner, because the new stuff is all I could find.
I need to get this album, their music makes me happy and I want to get up and dance XD
They are the coolest guys.
there is a really good message with this song, just like many alternative rock based songs

So awesome I love there music
This band has awesome music. Laura has that Ian Asbury (cult) vocal style yet it is original all the same. amazing tunes.
It's true!!They sound pretty similar

Let’s say you’re straight.
What? A smart comment on the internet. I've been waiting years for this moment! I can finally die in peace now.
Im so happy laura is becoming who she is. Its so good shes breaking through no matter what others think. Rock on Laura i will love you no matter what. Haters grow up plz!
"Becoming who she is" what a convoluted oxymoron. If it was an already is thing, there would be no need to become it. This is just word salad.
Thomas is growing into where he feels comfortable. i cant appreciate the journey, but i respect the person and the music. This song is brilliant.
Love the message!
This band kicks ass!!!
Laura is going to be kick ass! Seriously thank you for your courage! I love this band and everyone in it. Regardless of bigots, there are always people who have your back.
I heard this song on One Tree Hill, which is when I started to love it! I LOVE ONE TREE HILL and STOP!

It's so weird seeing Laura pre-transition
I saw them with Green Day like 2 months ago.... they we're awesome.
i remember working to this kind of music when i was in high school from 05 to 09
She does it for her happiness and not for good looking so I'm very happy for Laura.
*stops and takes some time to think* I have figured out what is important to me.
Laura have the most beautiful smile that i ever seen in my whole life, tbh...
Why is everyone so up in arms about what is and isn't punk, or what bands are pop punk (and therefore somehow don't count)? If you like it, rock out. i have been searching this song for years and today i found it.
Going to their show in Feb in the cold tundra of Fargo, ND
@basscube5
Cool that's funny, I saw them last Sunday (19th) @ the Edmonton Event Center. Deadly show for sure.

My mom keeps sending me videos that she finds of Laura omg I love against me!

"Stop! Take some time to think! Figure out what's important to you!"
Well, music is what's important to me,
and Against Me! rocks my fucking world. :D
When I would crash at my best guy friends house every morning after drinking we would throw on Against me! And clean up all the emptys and spilt beer or booze loved them for so long ... Come to Waterloo Ontario Canada we would be so unbelievably happy!!!!

temas que hacen olvidar la cuarentena en abril de 2020 =D
1:37 is the highlight of my day everytime I see it
Paddy and Against Me? Awesome
Tom Gabel the lead singer and founder of the hardcore band Against Me from Florida is now Laura Jane Grace and is still leading the band as a transgender woman who’s still married with a daughter ❤️🌸
Emily Iannielli against me isn’t hardcore, they were southern punk.
Laura Has Always Been Leading Against Me With Her Vocals. Stop Labeling Everything.
Didn't that marriage fall apart?
I like the idea behind your comment, but you really didn't need to include her deadname
Ari, get a life.
WOW! Talk about an underrated band & song!!! :\
Paddy from Dillinger Four! Fuck yeah!
I enjoyed this song because it was a really good song.
Great Tune!
From one transsexual to another: Keep up the good work, Laura!
@Rattnuff Its what ever you want it man dont let people tell you what it is, if you like it listen , dont like it skip it. I see every one makin it harder than it realy is.
