This song was so special to my mother, so here's a small memorial to her for anyone who might like to read it. She was so funny and clumsy. When I was a kid we would sit in the kitchen and listen to music while she cooked dinner, sometimes we would make parodies to whatever was on the radio. Her cooking was unmatched, heavenly. We would watch the sunset almost every summer night, she said there were never 2 alike. She was right. She taught me to stick up for myself, even if it meant the school would call home. She taught me that I should love anytime I get the chance. Rest in peace, mom, gone too soon.
I can say a lot about my mom but she made me the person I am today. Strong, capable and loving. She left us Saturday, I spent the week prior in the hospital with her. I bought a shitty guitar and played this song I don't know how many times for her. RIP our mothers.
You do realize that the original is The Old Crow Med Show, right? The only part that existed before was the chorus, which was Bob Dylan's. So, it's hardly a cover.
I used to sing this song to my 3 younger kids who. They'd come for home visits on the weekends. So my oldest son , Shea, moved out and on his own. One evening him and his girlfriend showed up with a guitar . Shea had taught him self to play this song on the guitar. That night I cried and cried . I never thought I ever made a good impression in his life. But he said he loved when I sang ro them when they were little that any time he was going threw something in life, that he'd play some song that I once sang to them . That was also the night hom and his gf Bailee told me I was going to be a grandma for the first time. ... music definitely has gotten me and my kids through some difficult times In our lives
This is the first version of this song that I ever heard, and it will always have a special place for me. It's the soundtrack of those summer nights where I just drive for aways, windows down, thinking about that special girl. Beautiful.
That is beautiful. I was also a teenaged anarchist, and finding this song was the start of a strange journey towards discovering that I could find beauty and perspective in any genre of music.
This song reminds me of my sister who passed away 2 weeks ago. She travelled by hopping trains ,hitching rides and busses. Was one of her favorite songs. Hearing those first few notes makes me start to tear up and makes me think of her. Miss you Lis, rest in peace my beautiful sister.
That's a great comment. A year later, I hope you have better closure and still keep a positive outlook on her life. You'll always have this song to remember her traveling spirit. Lis rambles on... Much Love.
One of my daughter's friends posted this on facebook as a tribute the day she died. Rips me apart every time I hear it. Fits her perfectly. Love you Felicity....😭💚
This song reminds me of an old friend I've lost through the years. Every once and a while I'll play this light up a cig, take a drink and think about the good times.
Wagon Wheel - The Against Me! cover is one of the greatest songs of all time. In high school we would play this song in the car all the time. Whenever the song played noone was allowed to talk and the windows had to be rolled down even if it was raining. We would dive through the countryside with this song playing. Truly beautiful.
Listening to this reminds me of the good ol' days before I was diagnosed with depression. I only now realize how happy I was back then. Life was so fucking good, and I was too stupid to realize it. Funny how life works that way. I wish you could know when you're living in the good old days before you leave them.
Laura's music saved my life, I love her so much, met her about a year ago. I remember singing this drunk at folk sessions but never knowing the name of the song, then I find AM!'s version and now my life is complete :)
I really really love this version. First song I've "covered" since I picked up a guitar a dozen years ago. The passion is easy to feel in this cover. Props to OCMS and Dylan for writing this tune. Love how AM gave it a less country folky sound and gave it some real emotion.

Folk is a genre based on tradition. Some songs have been covered so many times it's impossible to distinguish the original writer, for example, House of the Rising Sun. I think that no matter who covers the song, it should be appreciated because they're keeping the beauty of the tradition alive.
That feeling of passing something cool on to other people, so they can feel a bit of what you did. maybe you change it slightly by virtue of being someone else in a different place, a different time, maybe those people you share it with go on to change it a little more when they share the song, the tone shifts but the heart always remains. I love it when Against me! in particular has folk elements because- This band has that feeling in spades for me. When I first listened to a lot of against me! tracks, I was just a confused kid- full of Punk Rock angst... and dark shameful secrets I would never dream of telling another soul. It meant so much to know that all of that time, she really did feel the same way that I did. We got there in the end :D.
"Rock me mama like the wind and the rain, rock me mama like a southbound train." Let the tension ease out because sometimes you got to relaxed from all the shit in this world like buying flowers to girls who don't love and sticking with bands that don't know you. I love this band, Teenage Anarchist to Thrash to this. Because all their music is art in the purest form in my book.
@lgsintheparty true that... i love metal, punk, rock, and bluegrass... and when they can perform all of them it really shows the talent of the bands...
I listened to both of them and i like this cover because its still the same rythm and all thats really different is the instruments and his voice so its all together a great song

Heading down south to the land of the pines
I'm thumbing my way into North Caroline
Staring up the road and pray to God I see headlights
I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Picking me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a-hopin' for Raleigh, I can see my baby tonight
So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey, momma rock me
Rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey, momma rock me
I'm running from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old time string band
My baby plays a guitar, I pick a banjo now
Oh, north country winters keep a-getting me down
Lost my money playing poker so I had to leave town
But I ain't turning back to living that old life no more
So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey, momma rock me
Hey, rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey, momma rock me
Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
Caught a trucker out of Philly had a nice long toke
But he's a heading west from the Cumberland gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee
And I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby calling my name and I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh at least I will die free
So rock me momma like a wagon wheel
Rock me momma any way you feel
Hey, momma rock me
Oh, rock me momma like the wind and the rain
Rock me momma like a south bound train
Hey momma rock me
Oh, so rock me momma like a wagon wheel

I absolutly love your cover of this song. Thank you for doing it. ;) Everytime I hear it it makes me smile. :)
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard!
Went camping with friends this weekend in British Columbia, we brought a guitar, and this was our theme song for a weekend of extreme awesomeness
this song makes me happy to live in North Carolina
the original of this song makes me happy no matter what mood i'm in, and now it's that much better :)
My childhood was surrounded by this song, but this cover makes those memories feel a little safer to think on
WOW i am s o f t. well, anyway, this is on repeat. alhamdulilah
best cover ever of wagon wheel
Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
Pray to God I see headlights
I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight
So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a southbound train
Hey mama rock me
Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time string band
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now
Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more
So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me
Walkin' due south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee
And I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free
So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me
I catch myself playing this song on repeat. All.the.time.
One of my fav's!!!! Awsome!!!
one of the best covers ever.
Because all their music is art in the purest form in my book.
i frikkin love this song soooo flippin much!
@lgsintheparty true that... i love metal, punk, rock, and bluegrass... and when they can perform all of them it really shows the talent of the bands...
i love this version, they nailed it
Johnny Hobo has a pretty awesome version
This was my summer song for Explore in PEI, I think everyone has great memory going with this tune.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG ❤
I listened to both of them and i like this cover because its still the same rythm and all thats really different is the instruments and his voice so its all together a great song
