- There are a few changes for the 2020 Tacoma, especially this XP Predator. Under the hood is the 3.5L V6 producing 278 HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This Tacoma XP Predator is only available in the South East region of the USA. The Predator has exterior features from the TRD Pro. On the inside you will find the updated infotainment system for 2020, plus other fine touches. Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma Predator the midsize truck you should buy?

I own a 2020 Barcelona red trd off-road as of a couple weeks ago, and I like it a lot. I’ve never heard of this series’s but they seem cool.

Got my 2018 with 11 miles. I now have 46,000 miles in a year. My 2008 had a little over 300k when I sold it. My Tacoma isn't stock either. 33's, front and rear bumpers, full skids, decked drawer system, rotopax, RTT... It's beaten off-road at minimum once a month. I expect to own it until the wheels fall off.
Never witnessed a tacoma owner use a rotopax. My wife's 16 'GX460 is way more capable while remaining low key plus the 4.6 V8 can actually tow.
Nice. I always liked Toyota and my first vehicle I got when I was in high school was a Toyota 4Runner. I wish they had a little more power, like at least in the 300 horsepower range. Nice looking truck and cool name, but like Moflow mentioned where is the Predator name. I know the emblem says XP, but put the Predator name on it and put a little more horsepower in it. Did i miss something or did Toyota toss an epic moniker like Predator on a vehicle and yet it doesn't actually say Predator anywhere on it?... because i'm pretty sure Ford wouldn't forget to put Raptor in about 8 different places on their trucks.

Nice looking truck. Why did they build an off road edition on the TRD Sport instead of the TRD Offroad ? The air dam should have been removed at the very least.

I have a really oddball question for you. If you order the predator package (16” wheels) on a TRD Sport (originally 17” wheels), do they update the sticker in the door jam to show the new tire size?

Is it worth it to buy anything above the sport trim if you plan on going on trails and hiking and the sort? Or is it better to buy a sport at most to get the V6 and buy aftermarket parts yourself?
The Tacoma front bumper looks weird in this thumbnail angle, like a gruff chin. Would probably look better in black paint or if they painted over the lower bumper gray/black
Thinking about going with a 4x4 pickup . Moved to Arizona a year ago and there are lots of off roading trails plus it would be easier to transport mountain bikes and I could get a Kayak! Tough to fit one on my fr-s. You Can get a v6 TRD off road extended cab in the low 30’s and they hold their value , used ones get crazy money!

I have a 2014 Tacoma 4.0 v6 SR5 with 64,000 miles and there’s no reason to trade it for a new one I will keep it till it dies when? I don’t know my truck is solid as a tank..
My 2019 limited has ac ducts under the front seat.
Why is everything blacked out but still have the chrome tail lights?

Not all trim/packages are for everyone, stay within your budget or complain about it...or simply buy lower trim and do your own upgrades! Bottom line is it very reliable and looks great!
Need to add Twin Turbo option for more horsepower. Also bring the horses up sooner in the power band.

Funny about the headlights... he says he doesn’t like the little vents? It’s because on other models, that area is filled in with LED daytime running lights, which look awesome
I’m not a fan of the TRD sport/pro decals on the rear quarters. Prefer a cleaner look myself. Have a 2006 with over 250k and waiting for it to die before I get a new one. Maybe 2030?

I have an 07 that has had the frame replacement done in Iowa, seems to be just fine. I also have an 08 Dodge Ram and the rear fender wells are are up with rust, yet no body rot on the Tacoma. If you keep em reasonably clean they do fine.
Eh, I don’t think it’ll die by 2030 lol. I saw a guy with 410k+ on his 2nd gen and it still isn’t giving him any issues. Not to mention the old man with 1.2 million miles on his 4cyl taco. Lol

Seating position is great? Damn. Lol I have a 2017 Tacoma and the seating position has been a huge negative for me. I've hated it so much at times. Just want to kick it for causing me pain and discomfort. 😆😆😆 I should upgrade. But I'm leaning more towards the Tundra or 4runner. Great Review ...Silarado haha! Still gets me. Not much difference except for the off road gadgets, like Rear Diff, Atrac, Auto LSD, and the crawl control, I think it's about it
It's nice to see a truck without low profile tires. It seems nowadays the trend is large wheels and tires with very little rubber.
That thing looks sweet
Problem is they look good because of the higher floor and chopped top. Makes you sit close to the floor with feet straight out. Don't care for the ergonomics. People buy these on looks and resale. But the transmission is a turd. Very poor active learning trans. Worst in segment IMO. Test drove one twice and could not believe toyota would put out such a piece of garbage. But if people buy it they will make it. Resale seems to be the biggest draw from what owners say. I prefer the Ranger or Frontier. Much more comfortable and allot more power with better transmissions.
Im not a tech guy so its never a deal with me. I only want an automatic seat but if it doesnt have it dont matter to me.
I just wish i can get this truck. I will have to wait couple of years but i will get this truck. Its been my dream car since i got my license this thing is just a beauty. The money that i will get will pay for it in the long run.

you can get them in the trd package. it's not standard so you have to pay extra.

They kind of beefed up the Taco. The last model seemed to be long and slim. This one looks real good. The Ranger is awesome but I think the Taco retains top spot.

I just bought a black sr5 with the predator package. I don't tow, I don't off-road and have no particular skills in modifying vehicles. I got it for 36k. Needed a truck for the utility. Some people will say the predator package is a rip off but seriously, if you're like me, it's a steal. I just wanted to give the vehicle an aesthetic, custom-like look without having to deal with the stress of changing it myself. Some guys on here act like every guy with a truck should be up under it every month working on it or doing all the mods themselves like a real man does lol.
This should have the same V6 normal otto cycle from the Camry and the 8 speed from the LC to help with acceleration and fuel economy.

Is the Predator an ACTUAL trim package? Or one of those stock versions with some stuff added on with huge dealer markup? I wouldn't be surprised if its priced along the line of a TRD pro.

Wrangler Duratrac tires are a nice touch too. That would make this very capable off road
but it looks cheaper it better tech than ever but i hear changing the oil in the engine is really a bad idea, it sucks , difficult to do

Best bang for the buck is still the manual transmission TRD off road. For 42,000 MSRP you can get the automatic transmission TRD off road with traction control, off road shocks.

Yeah that thing is a fuckin joke for 42k!!! Buy an Off Road, spend the 50 bucks and install the exhaust tip yourself, plasti dip the badges if you want or just remove completely and get the wheels and good tires you want because the wranglers that are on there are garbage. I paid 40k OTD for my OR in Dec of 15 fully loaded, JBL Prem Tech package. Plus those pred steps are worthless...
