Look at your cute Tolsta!!! LOVE THIS! the alpaca is lush as a shawl but also you can add mohair to help giving it a bit of structure if you wanted to knit a sweater! I think the traveller shawl from A. Mowry would be a nice telly knit for your alpaca and something you could wear ( I find it looks like a modern shawl/scarf and not boring) Thanks for another episode Jacque!
I always knit for the next season. Started my fall knitting a couple of weeks ago, and I always get to wear my finished objects for a full season soon after I finish. And for your alpaca yarn, if you don't care too much about having leftovers, make a stick season sweater without the texture - but keep the ribbing on the sides etc. Rebecca clow had a video on her most worn knits (maybe at the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024) and she had a couple that she used alpaca yarn with mohair. It was heavenly. That is the next fall item I will be casting on
I think knitting for the next season will be ideal for my future self! Also, love your rec - I’m going to watch her video and see all that she made with the alpaca yarn!
Knit a fingering weight sweater earlier this year and timed myself.... over ninety hours! You're right that you just have to know what you're getting yourself into with the smaller gauge garments. It's a big commitment 😅
Loved the episode. Your joy in making is contagious. For the alpaca what popped into mind was either the Campside Cardi or the Campside shawl by Alicia Plummer. I love Four Crows Fiber yarn. Melissa has a great eye for color. Can’t wait to see your Sabai finished thanks for the tip on the sun yellowing silk. I’ve been in fiber/fabric making both professionally and as a hobby and I didn’t know that. Also I’m with you….I’m wanting to knit for fall.
Hi Jacque! I think a cardigan would be really pretty. Normally I'm a blue kind of girl but that oatmeal/natural color has been really drawing me in. Good luck finding the perfect project! 🙂
That alpaca is beautiful, isn’t it? How about the Back Then by Ankestrick? It’s a cardigan with a shawl neckline so would give you a bit of the feel of both. She has quite a few shawly cardigans but that one is definitely in Sport weight. She uses light fingering plus lace to make her sport weight but I favourited it last week as I have some similar yarn to yours to knit up and thought maybe I could hold it single…. Though I am wondering now about drape and whether it will have too much 🤔 Love that about your podcasts - they really get me thinking! 😊 I’ve made the Little Love by Ankestrick and it really is like a cosy hug to wear, so am tempted to try. Also, I am currently knitting the Montaria by Rosa Pomar in Drops Cotton Merino and can highly recommend it as an easy breezy dopamine knit for the late summer/ early autumn xx

YES lol I just caught that too, now I cannot figure out for the life of me if this is what I actually did or if I am remembering and misspoke 🤔 either way would definitely recommend picking up MORE stitches!
As I am allergic to woll, I often do these substitution to put in Alpaca everywhere 😜😍 Not yet so experienced though. Some subs have been very successful and some awful 😞 I wish I could help you! I’ll look at all suggestions here too!! It is always a combination of yarn+pattern+size+structure. If something turns out bad, is it wrong structure (for example broken rib) for that yarn, or is it a bad choice of model (oversized cardigan), and would it have been better if I sized down???? To really answer the question, you‘ll have to do the same model/garment again only changing ONE parameter….. else we can’t prove what went wrong! ADDING another strand of something that adds STRUCTURE is what I lately been exploring. No good answers yet, though. I used a cone of super-thin silk yarn, held triple. Awfully tangled but looks very nice. The extreme-draping was avoided, but I had to do some adjustments still to make it wearable, and get a better fit (still not identical to designer’s, but perfect in it’s own way!). Next plan (autumn) is to try Alpaca + linen. Given that both of these are thin enough to be held together without being too bulky. I’ll keep you updated!! 😂Sorry for long philosophical answer! Rebecca Clow has made several of her sweaters and/or cardigans in Drops Alpaca (100% and sport weight). AND she claim it is one of her favorite yarns! I love using Ravelry for project tracking. To make it easy I rename my projects with the year, "2024 Sassy V Tee" for example. It's so helpful!

JiJi Cardi by Knitatude is a really classic knit, her directions are very clear, the cardi shawl is an interesting construction.

Wait, wouldn't picking up 3/4 stitches make for a larger armhole (i.e. more stitches) than 2/3? 75% vs 66%?

Hi there! Most important will be doing a gauge swatch to see how different your yarn will be vs. what the pattern recommends!
