I bought an early 2017 M240i new and have ~ 33,000 miles on it. Have just installed BM3 Stage 1, going to Stage 2 soon....Absolutely the best car I’ve ever owned, which over the years has included several 911s, one Corvette, an SL500 and some other high end sport cars... Also, I’m in my mid 70s, so have owned many cars over the years.

How is it better than the 911 and Corvette?

A new 911S or corvette are clearly faster, but my M 240i is lots faster that any of the older 911s I’ve owned, and the Vette. Plus, it has a real back seat, and is quite a bit less expensive. Overall, I enjoy it more than any of the other cars I’ve owned over the years.

Totally agree. I have a 2019 manual with lsd. Closest car to it was my 2004 Infiniti G35 6MT. Both cars 6 cylinder coups with 6 speed. BMW is quicker but the Infiniti had the best sounding exhaust. Both are a great blend of practicality luxury and performance.

You won't regret it. I had a 2014 m235i and now own an m240i. When i found they were going to the mini platform in 2020 i decided to pull the trigger. Rrp on my car was just over £40k but i snagged a six month old show room car with 2k miles on the clock for £30k that came with a 3 year warentee. The cars depreciate about £300 per month but expect that with any car in this bracket. The paint on the m235i was thin and prone to chip but no such issues on the m240. I did pay out to have it ceramic coated which is a little expensive but the car still looks brand new.
Ps. A simple ecu flash for about £600 will give you another 💯 hp quite safely and you can get more than that of you go stage 2 or 3 mods but in my view you get diminishing returns at this point. Going to get my car tuned this year which will take it to around 430 bhp. Now that's value, half the price of a full M car.

Great break down of the different years! I plan to be getting an S3, Golf R, or M235i (the decision will most likely not be made until after test drives) in the next month or two, more recently I have been getting swayed towards the bavarian machine, and your videos have been great to see actual driver experience, particularly that of someone who gets informed. Keep it up!
I do suggest that, while including the various 2018 M240i pics was beneficial, also including pics of the M235i side by side or back to back would have been even better at showing the details and magnitude of the changes. Again, just a suggestion so the viewers can get a better visualization of the changes.

@@RedfalconX I actually went with a GTI. I decided that I wanted a hatch, so that knocked out the BMW/Audi, and I went with a GTI over R for a few reasons (no particular order):
-Saved about $8k over a R (was about the same price as similar GTI examples with ~8x the miles)
-Sunroof (could've gone without, but I use my sunroof frequently)
-Tad more playful than the R (tested both the same day, R was definitely a tad more capable, but you could tell it is heavier and the turbo is bigger/slower to spool).
-Availability - Perfect options+low miles for a very great price ('17 autobahn w/ everything but DAP, white paint (looks best on the MK7 imo), and 7k miles)
I've had it for 6 months now and I love it. Uni stage 1+ for almost 2 months and I no longer have the fleeting regrets of going with the slower choice as it hauls ass now. Raced a scat pack charger the other day for about a half mile and we were neck and neck the whole way. Also, one thing really neat about VW/audi products is OBD11/VCDS. With it, you can tweak quite a few things in the ECU that you cannot with other cars.
And finally, I should note that while I couldn't justify the extra money for extra performance (that isn't really much more enjoyable outside of inclement weather) while giving up either a sunroof or hatch....the S3 hatch would solve that and be in my garage right now if it were available here in the US.

Well thanks in part to all your vids (before you sold it, lol still watch though) and after waiting a couple of years and driving others in its class, I finally got what I wanted. A 2017 M240i xDirve (Ohio winters as they are). I really don't like the interior of the newer ones, and I REALLY REALLY don't like the tail lights of the newer ones. I traded my baby for it, and to be honest had it been AWD I wouldn't have considered getting rid of it. I bought it new in 2005. It was a 2006 6-speed manual Acura TSX, That I lowered on Tein coilovers at only 1000 miles. Rear sway bar, short shift kit, and Kosi 18" rims. No engine mods, but when I traded it last Saturday it had only 37 thousand miles on the clock. Lucky to work close to home. I LOVE the BMW, but I'm sure going to miss that TSX. To be honest, though the TSX was WAY down on power compared the the BMW, with those coilovers, the TSX handles the twisties MUCH flatter. And with the large rear sway bar, almost NO understeer. But it couldn't make it up the driveway when there was an ounce of snow on the ground...but I feel a little better every time my right foot plants the go pedal in the BMW. Any advice on less body roll while not necessarily lowering the the car (old man now lol) would be appreciated.

My experience with my 2016 M235 was that after the warranty expired I had transmission problems, the drain for the sunroof clogged and dumped a bunch of water on and into the main computer in the right kickpanel. The computer and programming ran about $1,800.00 because of poor design of the drain location.
Then the motor for the windshield washer stopped working for another $470.00 .
Then there is the issue of the front end camber that causes the tires to wear unevenly and needed to be replaced about every 10,000 miles or so.
When I got rid of it, it I had owned it for 5 years and had 42000 miles on the clock.
This car was alot of fun, very fast, great handling and stopping power too.
So, my experience was not that great in the repairs & cost area.
My mistake was not leasing it.

Hey bro, if you dont mind answering some of these questions, I'm looking to purchase used ones regardless of the year (M235xi) since I live in NYC, needed that awd for safety net, would you see a necessity of purchasing extended third party warranty? And at 58,6k miles at the time of the ongoing sale on your other videos, did you change all the transmission fluids, rear diff, coils, plugs, etc? (Since you tuned it) Your response would be much appreciated or if anyone can answer to those who own M235xi?

I bought a used 2017 M240 AWD convertible with 33k miles on it. Considering I live in the desert and the cost of parts, I bought an extended warranty through my credit union. It added 6k to my price, but I feel more secure. Any service is 75 miles away. I do a lot of road trips on my own from 200 to 2,000 miles one way. They tacked it on to the end of my car loan with the same interest rate, so it didn't affect my monthlly payment amount. Except for consumables, it covers everything for 5 years or 50k miles. Sadly, it was not a BMW certified vehicle to have that advantage, but a straight out comparison between BMW extended warranty and my credit union, I got a lot more for my money. Because of the pandemic, have not done as much driving as I normally do, but 6 months later, no problems have arisen.

I have a 2016 M235i, was certified pre-owned with 75K miles of free service and 5 year CPO warranty. I'm at 78K miles and my service just ran out so this is my first time paying for it and this is where these cars get expensive.
      Brake Fluid: 249.99
      Engine Coolant: 299.99
      Fuel Induction Service: 299.99
      Front Differential Fluid: 249.99
      Rear Differential Fluid: 249.99
      Transfer Case Fluid: 249.99
      Spark Plugs: 552.62

New Rear Brake Pads and rotors: 1305.01
      Rear Shocks: 1771.97
      Alignment: 299.99
      Front Arm Bushings: 1037.95
      Total Service: $7,0009.95
I also just got my car back from the bodyshop and they broke a headlight washer nozzle, thankfully the dealership billed the bodyshop but that would have been $486.65.
This type of service only has to be done once every 80K miles so you can expect oil to be $134 a year and tires to be $312 a piece, however, if anything breaks and you're out of warranty or service you're looking at $1000 easily per part. I broke my charged pipe (it's plastic like he said) and it was covered under warranty but that would have been $1200.
Also gas is premium and I think it's around a 12 gallon tank but I can fill it up at Costco for $31 a week, so $1612 in gas and my insurance was around $680 per 6 months but I have a lot of discounts through USAA so yours could be higher but 1360 per year.
ON THE PERFECT YEAR, with nothing broken and everything covered, gas + oil + insurance = $3,106
      Hope this helps!

ChipZilla69 N55 and B58 rev both until the same limit of 7.000-7.200, BUT I think the point is a differrent:
B58 has so much low and mid range power that you already reach maximum power before 5.000rpm, so there is no need to rev until 7.000 and the B58 doesn’t rewards you or give you any additional punch when reeves above 6.000.
The N55 in contrast has less mid range torque and power, therefore maximum power is delivered (only) when you squize the engine until rev limit of ca 7.000

    Sooner if modified.
It pays to have decent mechanics skills which is easier on the pocket.
I recommend changing all the plastics and water pump and thermostat with related hoses prior to power adding ...
Along with fresh plugs and coils.
And the oil cooler gasket set......
Or you will be chasing one drivetrain malfunction after another..

Tom Wrigley performance built a M240i with 700hp using meth injection. The N55 sounds a little better and also has strong aftermarket support. You can’t really go wrong. The B58 doesn’t need an upgraded chargepipe like the N54 and N55 did, at least as long as you aren’t going more than FBO.

    So looking on AutoTrader, a nice M240i is around $32-36k. But a used M2 is $36-40k... $4k for a true “M” car... it’s such a hard decision!

Dylan Nguyen go for the M2! you wont regret it 👌🏼

Simply Car Things I was thinking so too, the only thing I wanted to look at was mods for M2 vs M240i.
tbh if the M2 had real M seats like the M2 Competition, it might have made the decision easier 😂

An M2 (non-Comp) will NOT have the adaptive suspension and the worse engine. Both make a huge difference for daily driving.

@@TucsonDude I ended up with a new M2c last month:)
No adaptive suspension kinda sux but is livable daily. Went on a 16hr road trip with it alr

Both are surprisingly affordable for now. That being said, don't let yourself pick up 235i with N55 motor. Don't get me wrong, it's a great motor but no comparde to B58.
    Please, please, get yourself 240i

theres quite a large difference between an m0 (335i) and a o0(m135i/235i) n55 motor the o0 is superior
