You made the right choice. A Golf R is a safe, AWD, characterless, box. It's for people who love traffic light racing. An M235, M135i, M140i, or M240i, are drivers cars, for cornering FUN. Hopefully you can upgrade to an OG M2 eventually. I bought one, and it is on another level mate seriously, unreal car. My previous car was an m140i running 455bhp/634nm, but no matter how much I spent, no matter how many mods, it would never be a real M car.
Okay, so my 2016 that I just bought (because I couldn’t find a type R) mine has the heated seats and all that. It’s also a convertible… 6speed manual transmission. I absolutely LOVE it. Enjoy my man
14:00 Yes!!!! THIS right here. BMW really f*cked up on that. The conical plastic insert to that hose on the port side cracked on me, too. BS to go through so much trouble for something that really has no business breaking, because it's so simple. Recommend everybody change it out themselves every 50k miles, or pay beaucoup buck$ to get it replaced in a pinch. I'm off and on looking for some type of metallic barb plug/silicon hose upgrade. But, it isn't exactly the most frequently marketed thing, like a straight pipe or an intercooler upgrade. So, no luck yet.🤷🏾♂️
The m performance exhaust ain’t valved btw I have it fitted the open/closed flap wire is capped off where as the standard system it opens and shuts, when you go sports or sports plus that’s the car making it pop not the exhaust
going to be looking at one of these here in the states next weekend. asking price is 23k with 72,000 miles on the clock. I'm paying cash and with the current state of used cars its going to be interesting haggling the price down. Gosh I can't wait.
I’m looking at the 2021 for 44k and it has 3,500 miles I want to take a lot of road trips and daily do you think I can get 150k miles without major issues ?
I think you’re confusing limited slip differential with a locking diff. Limited slip differential transfers torque to whatever tire needs the most traction and increases handling and stability, many awd systems employ an lsd including bmw’s xdrive system and Subaru’s symmetrical awd, while a locking differential does exactly what it says “locks diff”. only allowing the tires to spin in tandem on either side of the axle which is great for traction in rough terrain but not going to improve your performance in and out of corners like an lsd would.
Really wondering if its worth it, have traction issues since day one, tuned it and it got much worse, have 255/35 in the back and it will still light them up.
@@webhito imo worth every penny, I love the traction losses when I want, like powerslide. This is pro and cons of powerful RWD. Trust me, the lsd going to solve traction troubles in a impressive way, I test it on my old (dot 2016) Michelin super sport in wet, cold conditions. After the lsd you will need a more planted front axle, with just M4 LCA AND TS, improve camber and caster.
I had an m235i manual and it’s a good car, the only thing that annoys me is that manual right hand drives have the pedals offset so you’re sitting with your legs diagonally
Drove a 2016 M235 and a Golf GTI not the R though. I would definitely get the BMW over the Golf. Steering is better, both balanced cars but 3.0T is killer choice, 2.0t is strong enough to push a shopping cart and no more.
i am close to buying either of these. Looks wise, both are fanstastic. I will have to test drive both. I once drove M235i briefly, but can't even remember much other than it was fast but interior was step backwards from E92 (it was small nav+no HK). So , I will have to buy high spec car, which is much more expensive and hard to find ...
No cruise control??? I thought everything had cruise control, especially a BMW of any spec lol. My old and super basic 2008 328i 6spd has cruise control. Also, a few months ago, my plastic coolant hose cracked and steam was rolling from the hood. Pulled over, had to get a tow to a shop. I was so relieved it was that cheap plastic part and that the engine hadn't just blew up like I was thinking in the moment haha.
No one has ever been able to answer this question for me. Certain m235 / m240i have that more aggressive lower front end with those 2 black extra lips on each side of the front bumper. And on many of them it's not there. Is it some type of m sport aero kit That was optional from the factory?
Yeah, it’s part of the M-Performance kit. Also comes with some carbon bits (mirrors and spoiler) as well as a different exhaust and of course the diff!
Thanks for the vid, but it doesn't sound like you know what you r talking about. It sounds like u like the VW quite a bit. The VW Golf R and S3 are safer than the RWD BMW. But, the xDrive versions are probably as safe/better, as BMW says xDrive is meant to make driving safe. Adui/VW already has quattro, etc. so safety was already there, so they tuned them to drive nuts without ending up in a ditch, like a Mustang does. What about maintenance, problems, dislikes, ??
Yeah, but the rwd m235i is more fun, has better fuel mileage, comes with a stick, and weighs less than the xdrive. If you live in wintery climates, drive a second car during the winter or get snow tires. Also, shitty drivers put cars in ditches. Regardless of rwd vs awd.
@@trevor4533 true. But with all the weather patterns, it's nice to have a AWD/4WD vehicle that is very capable. The snow tires isn't going to help much in 2 feet of snow. Having a banger for the snow is OK. Something cheap. like a RAV4
