    Drove my buddy's tuned M2 competition on the track at Lightening Raceway for a full day a few weeks ago and went out and bought an M235i this week. I know it's nowhere near as fast or as special but I needed a good daily, as dailying my 2005 6MT flat top e46 M3 was becoming troublesome and I wanted something a little more comfortable and modern for the commute. Kept the M3 as a weekend car and am pickuping the M235i tomorrow, super excited. Ordered like 2k in bolt-ons lastnight as well as a fresh set of PS4S tires, I'm just so excited!
    But yeah...that M2 competition was something else! It had so much damn grip and such good brakes I was blown away at what a great little car it is. He had the S55 tuned up to 500hp and I didn't feel like it was over-powered at all, it felt really well suited and balanced.

    As an M235i owner (had it for 6 months) the M235i is a powerful daily driver and not really meant for the track. Running into the same issues as you but you can always get an LSD in the car since getting a new M2/M2C is gonna run you $10-$15K more and you can widen the fenders and grab an LSD. There is way more you can do just look at the F22 Eurofighter or any M235i/M240i Racing setups. I was contemplating trading up but the car is too similar and imo I’d buy a 718 Cayman GT4 or something from Porsche that has superior track configuration out the box.
    TL;DR- M235i/M240i is a street daily M2 lite. You can upgrade it for track tho. If tracking I’d go for Porsche over M2/M2C.

      I have the same thought process you do. I am really really tempted to just buy a dedicated track rat that I don’t need track insurance on like an E 36 M3, or a C-5 Corvette. I would love a cayman !

      Low Boost Films to be honest, I’d almost recommend the E39 M5 as a track rat. You might be able to find a Cayman GTS or GT4 a few years older but think the V8 in the E39 M5 would be perfect. S55 Mercedes is also a good one but not sure if you wanted to keep it in the BMW family. M2 repair cost and maintenance cost isn’t worth it vs the M235i so I’d keep it as a daily and get the E39 as the track toy or the cayman.

    Nice video. I’ve got a 2016 M235i xdrive currently FBO(intake, chargepipe, intercooler, catless downpipe and BM3 stage 2 agg tune). Thinking about running methanol or some type of E30(?) fuel. How do I go about running methanol or E gas? I’ve seen meth kits online but have been told you can just use 93 octane mixed with E85 to create your own E gas mix. Any advice on how to make sure you’re mixing the right parts of octane plus E85? Or race gas? I see the tunes on BM3 but want to get it set up to run correctly before returning.

    • @LowBoostFilms
      @LowBoostFilms  5 років тому

      That’s a really good question maybe I should do a video on that. There is a really good ethanol calculator you can find on Google. You don’t want to go more than a 30% ethanol mix (e30) Your high pressure fuel pump can’t keep up. You can mix 93 (which is usually 10% ethanol anyway) and E 85 to make e30. Check out my Dyno video comparing 93 to e30

    • @prayformojo1117

      Buy an Rev X ethanol tester on amazon, measure the E85 at the pump to make sure it's actually 85 and not 90 or 70 or whatever. Once you figure that out, use this www.georgebelton.com/E85Calculator.php and mix accordingly.

    But you could have gotten an LSD put on by the dealer for an optional extra. Why didn't you and you still can.

      I got it used so that wasn’t an option. I looked at buying one and they’re $3,000 :/ juice isn’t worth the squeeze, plus the suspension I’d need is over $4,000 so for that I could get another track ready car

    Good content, as a N55 M2 owner I’d say it’s worth the trade up as it would address most of the issues you have with the M235i. As you mentioned the S55 comes with a risk of crank hub issues and also has a lack lustre exhaust note. There is not much out there that will give you what the N55 M2 offers at that price point. You could wait for the next gen M2 possibly with the the S58 however you’d be looking at a lot more $.

      You’re right! But Deep down I want to be able to track more often for less $$. So I actually bought a car I don’t need a loan on so I don’t need track insurance. But I really was considering getting an N55 m2 if I was only gonna track it 2 times a year. But i want to go 10 lol

      @@cammgt3rs370I had 50 plus laps of experience at my home track in the m235i and had a 1:43.7. First session with the stock C5 I had a 1:42.7 now I have a 1:38.4 in the vette modded. Not having an lsd kills the m235i, and honestly I don’t think I’d be as fast in an m2. But both bmws drive and feel better than the c5, the c5 is just a better handling and faster car. m8 ive seen two of your video and love ya but cant you just buy the lsd and install it yourself? ive heard its simple todo as a former evo owner(totaled by senior citizen) the car was very mushy when i got it....before it was totaled it was stiffer than a 18 year old after eating a box of viagra...the open diff scares me i know what its like bc my evo awc would break and the car would become open diff ;/ not fun

      Agreed, they should have put that in the M2. Even in the M240i, the car has its limitations with handling performance.
