Thank you for this tour of iDrive8, it is very helpful to see the system in action. I am still driving a non-iDrive e92 335i coupe (manual transmission) I ordered/purchased back in 2007 but recently was able to test drive a 2023 G82 M4 with a manual at my local dealership. I left the test drive thoroughly impressed and it has become the first BMW that I personally felt was a worthy successor to my beloved (albeit heavily modified) 335i. Because this whole iDrive system is entirely new to me, I am not sure it really matters if I get a 2023 M4 with iDrive7 or if I wait until the 2024 model-year when iDrive8 comes to the M4. Your video was helpful to see the differences from what I experienced in the M4 however.
You may want to edit out the maps part. I know exactly where you are because I lived in your state but a quick google search will narrow it down a lot.
No need, this location is my actual business I own, same address tagged in the video. Already public info, but regardless of my shop or home - I’m a bit of a 2A nut so in all my living/garage spaces there’s more firearms hidden and accessible then cars!
Hey heads up.. it does have dual zone climate with independent for driver and passenger … you need to trun of the sync toggle so it won’t sync the temp…
Smit, does turning off sync allow the split control of the airflow for the driver and passenger side? My G30 had independent airflow and air speed control for driver and passenger. Even when turning off sync on ID8, I still only see one control for airflow/speed.
@@znmperformance That is correct. The flow control used to be separate for driver and passenger on pre-LCI ID7 (even the standard G20). Now, with LCI the separate flow control is just lost, there is only one dial. Another saving made by BMW at the expense of comfort.
I appreciate the respect! If everyone used logic and common sense in giving feedback like you the world would be a better place. Back on topic - I know! I catch myself all the time with "uhhh" and "umm"....it's a hard habit to break.
Great video thanks. I’ve just ordered a series 2 active tourer with idrive 8 now wondering if I’ve done the right thing. Have you used voice control and would that solve some of the touch screen issues.
Have you had any issues with gravel getting caught between you front wheel and rotors? I know you mentioned sticking to a budget in your other video, but are there any options you wish you had gotten? Lastly, I was in the area yesterday and went by Park Ave BMW… I was quite disappointed their site had multiple g80 manuals in stock yet when I got there nobody knew what I was talking about. In fact, I was informing them of their own stock that was there for over a week, including stock number from my phone right in front of them. Smh.
Kenny, so far no issues with rocks getting stuck in the rotors, I can see that happening with how sticky these tires are though.... Only issue with the brakes so far as excessive squeaking. I did bed the pads in and the sound went away for a couple days, now it's somewhat intermittent. As annoying as it is, the squeaking is normal for performance pads so I'll have to live with it or swap to other pads down the road. Sorry to hear about your experience @ Park Ave. Did you reach out to Brad prior to showing up? I only dealt with him throughout the entire process. I do know that most dealers are famous for keeping old inventory on the website to lure people in the door. Not cool.
@@znmperformance i didn’t reach out- it was a last min thing since I hate to run to GSP. They didn’t seem to keen on seeing what I was about so unfortunately I won’t be headed back. As an aside, I have been to 3 or 4 dealers and each time, I’ve known more about the cars and options than the CA… I work in sales and that puts me all the way off! It scares me to commit to such a pricey purchase where I’m more informed than the sales person 😤. Sorry for the rant- looking forward to what you’ve got in store next. I’ll be able to relate by next summer 😉. Thanks for the video!
Kenny - I couldn’t agree more with you. Being a business owner - it’s a real simple task. Get your sales team on the same page, treat everyone as if they’re ready to sign on the dotted line and walk out with a car in an hour. Any good salesmen should be able to weed out the tire kickers in 5-10 mins and go about their day. When I went to a dealer in Long Island where I ultimately purchased my G30 540i from, my CA continuously referenced the B58 as a 4.0 liter V6 - even after I corrected him multiple times. Just the world we live in now - unfortunately.
Great video but my dealer warned me not to get the break in service even a mile after 1,200miles. My dealer said BMW might not cover certain issues if you get your break in service after 1,200 miles.
I would walk away from that dealer in a heartbeat. That’s complete BS. There is nothing in the contract that states warranty coverage may be effected if you’re beyond the 1200 mile break in by a mile. As a matter of fact, you don’t have to go to the dealer for any break in service. I can tell you in the State of NJ you can select to go to a independent repair facility and pay for “Genuine BMW” oil and a Genuine filter, if there were to be a serious engine failure, that receipt would be suffice to prove the condition of the oil was not a contributing factor the same way the break in service record would. Now, BMW may not CPO a M car if it hasn’t received the official break in, but that’s a different story. Sorry for the rant, just hate when dealers spread BS.
Absolutely hideous. I was about to get the ball rolling on an M3, but this ID8 monstrosity is an absolute deal-breaker. Sad to see BMW go to crap like this. Cheap slap-on pseudo-improvement, no esthetic value, and a kick in the nuts for everything BMW used to stand for: visceral, joyful driving pleasure. I'm out.
@@znmperformance I totally understand. I'm finally at the point where I can afford one of these, but now I either make a concession on a very unwanted feature, or I have to add some $33,000 for an M5 - which is an entirely different animal anyway. What a time to be alive! 😒
Thanks for the detailed walk through, was curious about the ID8
You're welcome!

Are you able to add the BMW apps to the car play? Would be more convenient then jumping back and forth
This is a good question. Will have to take a look!
Great review
Thanks Ian!
How do you change your profile picture on the car
Great video! 😊👍
Thanks! 😊
Hi Thanks for the video. I see that your g80 is manual and I was wondering if you can remote start the car. I have f80 manual and it can't. lol
Jason, while in theory its possible, not advised. You'd have to bypass the clutch safety switch and if the car is in gear you'll have a big problem.
May I ask if using a polarized sunglasses affects the display reading?
Jerome, to be honest I am not sure! I will check and report back.
Very good video not trying to be critical and just honest feedback but try not to say “uhh” and “umm” so much. Thank you for the vid, good job!

Is idrive 8 available for 2022 m3?
No, ID8 began in 2023 models.

Amazing review. I have a question? What does the "Gear shift Assistant" do?
It will rev match for you on downshifts without you having to engage the clutch with your left foot. Cool in principle but takes away from the fun.

So voice control does work, BUT - it a bit laggy....
do you have to have an iphone to use most of the apps. i have a pixel.
No! Pixel works too!

My brakes squeal excessively too, dealer says it’s normal.
@@user-rn4vw9tr3e Yep and it is technically normal. Just trying to understand how some G8X's squeal like a dying rat and some ever squeak - at all.

You know it's touch screen?
Was trying not to get in the camera view!
Beautiful ride. Not a fan of the wheels. But you can’t go wrong with an m3. 😊
Thank you!
Thank god for idrive7, removing physical buttons for stuff thats constantly used is just asinine
Don’t disagree with you.
I picked up my new m3. I don't like the fact that there is no buttons. Everything else is good. It's very tesla like and I hate teslas.
Yes - I do miss some of the buttons, but I suppose with time we will all get use to it.
