Masculinity in and of itself is not toxic. It usually becomes toxic when a man is not comfortable in his masculinity and feels like he has to go to extremes to prove he is masculine through violent, unhealthy means that can harm himself and the people around him. For example, if you were comfortable in your masculinity you wouldn't feel the need to get in a physical fight with a man simply because he disrespected you. There was a young man who got shot to death because he wouldn't sell a water bottle to another young man who didn't have the money to buy it. The kid called him broke and that cost him his life. Another instance of toxic masculinity would be suppressing your emotions in an unhealthy manner. Young men should be taught how to communicate when something is bothering them and when their boundaries are being crossed. Instead, we have young men who are out here committing suicide and suffering in silence because they don't want to be perceived as weak and their struggles aren't met with the same empathy or sympathy as women. Finally, sexual assault. There are so many cases of women getting killed for rejecting a man's sexual advances and it's a problem. Rejection hurts but it is a necessary part of life. Even if you don't get violent you can't throw a tantrum and curse a woman out simply because she wants no parts of you. Other forms would be bragging about taking a girl's virginity or lying about sleeping with a woman to boost your own antics. Your ego does not make you entitled to a woman's time of body. Healthy forms of masculinity include helping people in need, defending the vulnerable or yourself when you are in danger, leading/being a role model, etc.

I appreciate you guys so much. Jalon with the insightful questions, Omar with his organized thoughts and personal experiences and Duke attacking topics with a whole different perspective than how most would view it. Y'all the perfect trio. I wish everyone could listen to you guys speak. Y'all should go on tour.

Looooved that you made it a point to note that it's not a 'Man vs Woman' thing. Feel like that's very important when discussing these thing. There is already too much ugly out here. We don't need anymore

Being a protector and a provider raises a great point and it makes alot of sense but there is also a trope of these men being called simps for just caring about their partner. It is a double edged sword of sorts

I especially love how you guys explained toxic masculinity as something thats thats detrimental to a Mans Growth and others around him. Many times what is called "toxic masculinity " isnt toxic but thats not to say it doesnt exist.

Dope to hear your perspectives on the pressures that men experience that lead to toxic masculinity and love that y'all emphasized on what parts of masculinity you feel serve you and your relationships.
Totally would have loved to hear women weigh into this convo too!

“When you say toxic masculinity what are you talking about?” This is the real question! The phrase is thrown around so loosely it’s lost all meaning. People have resulted to deeming every unfavorable action as “toxic” and fail to simply think before they use internet lingo.
Also, I’m here for Jalon and his oranges. That was so sweet 😂 Another great episode, gentlemen!

This was very insightful. I grew up with a very masculine mother so I only know how to be self sufficient. And normally I end up saying men who require help. I never have that level of safety until I started dating men who were also self sufficient. Before it was very intimidating but after experiencing go-getters I’m never going back to a man that’s incapable of handling his own.

I think this was a dope video idea & appreciate the personal examples by Omar & Jalon. The episode scratched the surface but I’m interested in y’all digging deeper into day to day and pop culture examples of toxic masculinity & even including women into the convo. Though it’s a male based podcast lol

The word “toxic” is over used and misused so much that anything we don’t like or agree with we call it toxic SMH y’all spit nothing but fact. There are men who get it right. It’s takes maturity and communication to know the difference. Somethings that I initially thought were toxic were just delivered wrong- tone and situation made all the difference.

    Great conversation gentleman.
    I’ll say this.
I believe the word toxic masculinity is excessively used because of the blurred lines.
What do l mean by blurred lines?
    There’s:
    🛑 Masculinity
    🛑 Toxic Masculinity
    🛑 Gender Roles
    🛑 Masculine Men
    🛑 Masculine Women
    🛑 Feminine Women
    🛑 Feminine Men
    Side note.
I believe there’s a distinct purpose based on Kingdom principles and the intention for man vs woman.

Can i ask…..can you guys do a part two to this? I felt like you guys could’ve delved a lot deeper than you did with this topic, especially with everything going on surrounding men’s podcasts right now and what’s being put out their towards women(red pill, misogynoir, etc). Also, i think it would be really helpful to maybe have a woman on? And not just anyone, someone who has knowledge of this subject etc. there’s a comment that is SPOT ON about what toxic masculinity actually is and talking about masculine and feminine energy

This was a great conversation. You all said something about there not being toxic feminity or no one use the term. I would say that term isn't used, but "angry black woman " is. It's not as general as the term used for men, but it's more specific.

Okay okay let me explain okay? I like the words toxic masculinity because to me it recognizes the existence of positive masculinity. Because not all masculinity is bad, masculinity in itself is good, real good but every tree has some bad leaves ( am sorry English is not my first language). Anyways also something not being what you like or how you like it doesn't directly mean it's toxic. For example some women like traditionally masculine men while others prefer let's even say androgynous men who reject traditional masculinity. Let's be able to recognize real masculinity and even appreciate it in our men. Let's not only hate on men since we know we love them. Unless we are saying we are stupid then how do we explain that we think all men are trash yet we love them. However men too please start holding accountable your friends that actually are toxic. Softness is beautiful, softness doesn't shouldn't translate to weak though. Also girls, women why do we always say we hate toxic masculinity, yet those are the kind of men we choose.

This show is crazy. Because none of you men can answer the question. Toxic masculinity what in the hell does that mean. Y'all know what's up. Tell the truth.
