    Hello, i had a Hilux Vigo, Mitsubishi L200 HP and now i drive a Ranger Wildtrak, by far the most comfortable of the trio, it just feel more substantial all around.
    Good call.

      Nissan is the most comfortable, Because the Rear suspension is Coilover, not leafspring. Just like a Car,

    I’ve owned both a Hilux and a Ranger, and I’ve driven quite a few of both for work (in the bush and on the road) - of ages ranging from 20 years old to current models. I haven’t had much of a chance to really push any of the rangers to their limits in the bush but the few times I have, they’ve done very, very well. I’ve certainly towed some very serious loads (3+ tons) and in my experience, the Rangers won the towing hands-down. They have the power and they handle so nicely when loaded right up.
    My current work ute, a Ranger, has only done 155,000kms so I have yet to see how it lasts when compared to the old hiluxes out there with 500,000+ km on the clock. I love Toyota’s reliability, it’s one thing I don’t think many other brands can boast quite so loudly about.

      Contract92 do you think this new gen lux is making use of it's predecessor's reliability? I've heard the new hilux isn't the Ute it used to be

      @MP-78 6 років тому

      But Toyota skimps out on so much. What you buy should not be a lemon which a Ranger is not other than that reliability alone is no logic for sacrificing on what is also very important like tech, equipment, refinement and overall driving experience which matters everytime you drive.

      MANU PURI those things might matter to soft city people. I’m quite happy with a reliable vehicle that has air conditioning. The electric mirrors in my Ranger are handy when they get bumped around out in the bush, but I wouldn’t care if they stopped making everything else (electric windows etc.). ... that stuff is all just there waiting to break at an inopportune moment.

    Well this showed us that you can throw the Mercedes in the bin, and choose between the Ranger or the Hilux. Ranger for all round comfort and performance, or the Hilux for off road capability and long term reliability.

      The Ranger seems to be doing better than the Hilux for long term reliability these days. Ford aren’t the ones being sued by their customers about mechanical problems...

      Absolutely, this review is Soo biased even the blind can see. No pick up in the market today can beat Hilux in terms of fuel efficiency, workability, reliability and durability (so long as they have same engine size) and everyone knows it. They are just marketing for Ranger. Otherwise, if the Range is superior to the other two, why is it's price cheapest??? It doesn't make sense at all.

    Say if they were all the exact same price, for the benefit of an investment and/or bang for buck in regards to longevity, I would choose the hilux. Yes, the Hilux is a bit of a rough ride, worse interior and lower towing capacity than the video winning ranger, the Hilux over engineering and simplicity strengthens it's reliability. This is why government and non-government organisations supply the simple hilux SR to a lot of outback and rural communities. They're just a dependable vehicle.

    I live in South Africa and with my export business I often travel to different countries to do training with my distributers, at first I used a Hilux to travel as everyone said it would be the best because of how reliable it is, I have never been in a bakkie ( South African word for Ute ) that has broken down and given me more trouble before, I switched over the Ranger 3.2 and so far with putting 480 000 kilometers on the clock, I've never had to take her in besides for the normal service intervals. The Hilux used to be a very good bakkie but it has gone downhill in all aspects since the early two-thousands, ford has taken its place and has destroyed the competition when it comes to driving through the African bush

May-10-2018, I bought 2018 Ford Ranger 3.2 Wildtrak fully imported from an Australia, well mate, talking about comfort, safety & technology, I have to say, 2018 Ford Ranger 3.2 Wildtrak is the best truck I ever have. Waiting for FR Raptor so I planned to sell my L200 and keep both FR 3.2 Wildtrak and FR Raptor 2.0Bi Turbos 😋

    I’m a Toyota fan & would happily choose the Ford as well, BUT, I’m curious to see where Mercedes takes this in 3-5 years from this 1st attempt.....will they learn from these comparison reviews? Maybe.....will they outperform the Ford or Toyota? Highly unlikely, but it’s worth watching the potential growth.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 6 років тому +1

      Rangatology Of course they can. All they need to do is base it on their own platform and use their own commercial vehicle expertise and not use Nissan's. They'll have the best then. I don't understand why they just didn't develop their own platform when they have decades of experience making commercial vehicles. Not to mention they have their own excellent 2.2 litre diesel which they also use in their commercial vehicles that is already developed, known to be reliable and can come with 150kw and 500nm. Yet they use a damn Nissan engine and gearbox! Same for the key. Why did they use a Nissan key. They also have the best interiors in the passenger cars and even the V Class van has a better interior. Why use Nissan switches. They went about it all wrong. It is a Mercedes and people will hold them to a higher standard. The Navara is good in its own right but it is not good enough for a Mercedes badge.

    • @MrHappy351
      @MrHappy351 6 років тому +15

      See reviews by other websites/journalists you'll find they still think the Ranger is the best of this current crop of vehicles.
      Caradvice compared it directly against an X-Class and still found it to be superior (the interior of the X-Class is lacking practicality, like there's no where to put your phone, no centre arm rest in the rear etc etc) but would rather an Amarok V6 because POWERRRR and full time AWD, which could be construed as a negative thing (not the power of course).
      But then caradvice did a mega test of all the dual cab utes and still put the ranger at #1 as the best all rounder.
      I've got one and I wish it had a few things like:
      - memory electric seating settings
      - reach adjustment on the steering wheel (not many in this segment have that but I think the X-Class and Amarok does?)
      - 60/40 split rear seat (a lot of the others have it which would be useful in one situation I can think of)
      You should give one a go see what you think. You might find it really is.... that good

    is Ute short for utility? and why don't you call it a pickup?

    • @tbduggan85
      @tbduggan85 2 роки тому

      Yes, Ute is short for utility. The term ute refers to both ‘dual-cab utes’ like these and ‘utes’ which are sedans / regular cars with the back turned into a tray, so a 2 seater passenger car with a tray that is not raised up and not four wheel drive. We don’t call them pickups because we aren’t American. Apologies that you waited three years for an answer, but we Australians have been busy fighting for survival agains crocs, tassie devils and drop bears.

    The Ranger (3.2 five cyllinder ) has the biggest displacement among the 3. It will obviously be the one to win the towing and the 500kg load in the pan test.

    Hi CarsGuide, what was so bad about the X-Class offroad performance? I understand from other reviews, that the Navara Gearbox/ Drivetrain is a very strong combination off-road. Adding sufficient ground-clearance and a decent wading depth I would like to understand the short comings a bit more. Did the X-Class struggle with terrain the other two didn't? Thanks.

    I don't think the Hilux would trump the Ford Ranger Wildtrak in the off road section without the "rugged X" kit, the A/T tyres would have supported that segment win to no end. Ranger is fitted with the same tyre brand and series in H/T type thread pattern. Still a very good 12 minute video, Thanks.

  • @addiejonez
    @addiejonez 6 років тому +1

    It’s fair to say they are all utes and what not but you can see what each company does concentrate on with its product, Hilux is built towards off road type of use, and Ford wants the road more than off, and Benz being a new comer to the industry it still does want to be flashy in which I think because of the shift in the market Benz is for those that like the idea of a Ute but not a work horse, than the other two.

    Why don’t you guys provide a full life time ownership review. I have always been a hilux buyer and owner. My second last car was a ford Wildtrak. I purchased this based on similar reviews and price. After 85,000km,s had noises from dash and around the vehicle no fix from Ford. By 180,000 km,s after cooler packed it in. By 200,000i km,s engine packed it in and at 250,000 km,s the transmission was dead. In my business I owned 6 x hilux utes and retained them on average for 5000,000 km,s prior to selling. Have never experienced such problems with a Hilux and yes they were serviced fastidiously as the Ford was. This is the real test for someone making such an investment.

    So you criticise hilux for not having a digital speedo but no mention of the fact the ranger doesn’t have a proximity key? I like the ranger, I do think it’s probably the best all round Ute to drive, but personally I feel like it isn’t as well equipped as a vehicle at this price point should be in 2018.

    • @carsguide
      @carsguide  6 років тому

      I mentioned the lack of a proximity key in the written piece: www.carsguide.com.au/car-reviews/ford-ranger-wildtrak-toyota-hilux-rugged-mercedes-x-class-power-69193
      But seriously, a lack of a digital speedo is a potential safety issue. A smart key isn't.

    I bought 2 Hiluxes 2014, and I don't want to replace them simply because the new ones are not better. Toyota has to at least add one bigger engine so we have a choice what kind of Hilux we can buy! Also the suspension is horrible!

    Yes you guys definitely got it right.
    I think the only ute that would compete the wildtrack in this challenge is the z71 Colorado. It’s got a stiff but still comfortable rear end like the Ford, and it also has a great pulling engine like the Ford
    But I think the Ford would still beat the z71 in the off-road segment due to the Holden’s ground clearance isn’t as good

      I've owned both the Ranger and the Hilux and personally the Hilux wins hands down, my Ranger spent more time at Ford getting warranty repairs done then making me money, i had 3 engines replaced, blown turbo hose replaced, rear suspension replaced and just before trade in the auto was making some funny sounds, but the worst thing was the way Ford handled it, sure the hilux hasn't been perfect but the small issues Ive had Toyota jumped all over it. Also the running costs (resale,fuel,serving) over a 4yr lease is thousands cheaper then the Ranger

    • @madrx2
      @madrx2 6 років тому

      I drive a colorado as my personal tourer and have a ranger xlt we use at work. Ranger is nicer around town suspension wise stock for stock, colorado has heaps more power, better for towing,cheaper to buy, interior takes more of a beating. Colorado unfortunately doesn't have a rear locking diff from factory which is disappointing. I'd honestly go for the rugged x if I was to buy new again, simply because it's such great value with some very usable offroad gear on it already.

      Ranger has had a few minor faults. The fire risk is if your a complete idiot and park it in dry tall grass that touches the exhaust. Like most others it catches fire.
      The Hilux is having DPF and injector issues. Even though I'm a Toyota man, I'll admit they skimped out on the Lux. Noisy, underpowered engine, no basic add ons like a tow bar or tub liner. Just resting on the Hilux name yo rake in money.
      The Mercedes is just a Nissan which was horrendous to begin with but now in a fancy dress and added to its unreliable reputation with Mercedes reliability and repair costs.
