True I agree. Most of the cars in the industrial areas and the dessert in Kuwait you will a lot of Hilux. And Hilux is 2nd or the 3rd most sold car by Toyota Saudi Arabia I think so not sure
Then you should see the test where they tested a lot of powerful vans VS the MB Vito that had little horsepower, and was much heavier than the other because it was full of heavy seats
The most Aussie drag race anyone could have asked for. The Ranger and Hilux are consistently the top 2 bestsellers down under. The Amarok sells pretty well too You may as well have shot the video upside down Mat!
The test though was supposed to be about a 4x4 pickup truck, not everyday car. The whole test was a joke even without the handicapping of the Toyota and Ford down hill. A friend of mine is selling security equipment for Ansell and in the mines we visit sometimes the Toyota is the usual vehicle, sometimes the Ford. The VW is not present there at all.
The Ford and the Toyota are more workhorses. Proven. Tried and tested. The VW is very nice. The VW is more seductive and newer and fresher. At least here in Australia at any rate. The VW is the new kid on the market here compared to the other two. It may be very different in other countries though.
Toyota and Ford lost the hill descent test cause neither could go down in low range. I have a Ranger and with it, hill descent control when in low range can be set to go less than 1 kilometer an hour
Can’t wait for when Ford and VW partner up for the next Ranger/Amarok. It should have off-road capability of the Ranger and the Turbo diesel V6 from VW. That’s basically the perfect Ute. Not to mention the quality of the VW interior
5:05 there you can see the toyota has not switched on the rear difflock on, otherwise the rear right wheel would not slipt without the left, so it Was Not!
It's kinda like that with these new Toyotas. I do a lot of 4x4 with a club and if we go on terrain like they were the Hilux's get stuck and hung up while the others make it no problem. Even the Land Cruisers get over no issue. Problem with Hilux's is they just have those open diffs to an extent where the rear locker doesn't even help
If you engage the rear diff lock in the Hilux it disables the traction control. So it actually performs a lot better with the rear diff lock turned off. The new 2021 hilux has the traction control dialled to perfection here in Australia. Really unmatched.
if you think that traction control is better than a diff lock, you know nothing about off roading... the diff lock was off, you can clearly see that the wheel wasn't rotating
@@megarafjogos dont be a moron. Read it again. I said the traction control DISABLES the rear diff lock ie. You can't have the rear diff lock AND offroad traction control system. Its one or the other. Ive stated it performs better with traction control. If i had the choice id use both together.

@@TheD2D21видимо это так. Но в автоматической коробке я пока не вижу ничего плохого. Особенно для вождения в городе. 20 лет езжу с механической коробке передач и 1.5 гола ездил с автоматической.

You see how Mat just went all out, banging out that Hilux without a care? That's that Toyota reliability for ya
How do you pick a v6 Amarok against a 2.4 Toyota, why didn’t you take the v6 Toyota too?
Most European and American journalists hate Toyota bcz of its longevity and its more cheap to maintain
In the UK can you get the V6 toyota?
Yes, not fair at all.
Was Supose to use the hilux v6 and 3.2 wildtrack

He could have taken the 2.0l version of the Amarok at least
Amarok with road tyres, no difflock, no low range...I will take this one. Won't need to drive off-road that much. The other two have smaller engines with high output. Amarok with 3.0 V6 with less strain on the engine. Real effortless torque!!! 😼 😎
Give that amrok to me...i can make it in 28 sec....that amrok driver driving like he just got the car from showroom....
KEVIN MATHEW exactly!!! The driver was too slow
He was taking his time from the start to the finish

Well they probably *did* in fact just get it from a showroom.
And if it was your truck, you would be driving even slower 🤣
Hilux first, big splash, big trust. When you come to the desert, there will be one pick up only. HILUX
Bronco
stupid, if you want to roll over then get the hilux. the Hilux has failed every moose test I saw online
@@joemamabidendementia It may have its faults but the hilux along with the land cruiser 70 series are the two most reliable pick up trucks in the world. If you want confirmation of what I'm saying, go near a desert and ask the locals what pick up truck can make it there, or look up what cars international organisations that spend months in rural areas use (Medecins sans frontière, the WHO sometimes and even terrorist organisations). Toyotas casually make it to 500.000 km without much trouble for a reason
Moose tests are probably important to think about when planning desert driving.
True I agree. Most of the cars in the industrial areas and the dessert in Kuwait you will a lot of Hilux. And Hilux is 2nd or the 3rd most sold car by Toyota Saudi Arabia I think so not sure
This is more about the driving ability rather than the cars ability.

Hilux Toyota got everything I'm looking for.. Smooth, reliable , fast, sexy & very tough.

Add "reliable" on top of it all!!
Add terrible suspension leading to back problems too

All off road tests by mainstream car channels are. They are all useless at it.
Does off-road tests with road tires xD
Then you should see the test where they tested a lot of powerful vans VS the MB Vito that had little horsepower, and was much heavier than the other because it was full of heavy seats
they are doing the tests with the stock car, so stop complaining.

Toyota's are definitely not made to last anymore like the old Toyota's were
The most Aussie drag race anyone could have asked for. The Ranger and Hilux are consistently the top 2 bestsellers down under. The Amarok sells pretty well too
You may as well have shot the video upside down Mat!
The Amarok is definitely the best everyday car, with the nicest sounding engine, good capabilities for off-road use also, and much better interiors
Yes the amarok is the best one
you could take a corolla through all these "tests" and win
The Toyota lost the Hill Descent Test because there wasn't a need for it to go slow, if it had some more ruts and mud it would've slowed down more.
wrr
Toyota and Ford lost the hill descent test cause neither could go down in low range. I have a Ranger and with it, hill descent control when in low range can be set to go less than 1 kilometer an hour
Really impressed about the hilux in these tests and especially in the uphill drag race considering that it's the cheapest and least powerful here
And manual transmission to add on that
@@dzunisanibaloyi its not manual here
The 3.0 ltr VW TDI V6 produces just 204 bhp but it is the most refined diesel out of the three.
This video doesn’t show anything they all depend on the driver
Problem with Hilux's is they just have those open diffs to an extent where the rear locker doesn't even help
wanted to say the same
Noticeable point for toyota to work upon..
Correct thank you for noticing
Toyota Hilux invisible X was the best 1
Volkswagen Amarok V6 second 2
Ford ranger wildtrack was the last one 3
Toyota Hilux By far would send the surfer to the shore ;)
ford ranger

Am I the only one that thinks they should have used low range mode. I’m here to figure out which car is the best so why not use the cars to their full capacity it’s not my fault they didn’t add that to the VW. Still a great video though.
Came to the comments to see if someone said it. "We're going to handicap the other two trucks to make sure all the trucka end in a tie." Bs.
I would prefer a steep ascent for a test.
"First test is all about power..." And one of our cars has over 50 bhp less than the others XD
First test, really, is speed!
He should have done it at least 5 times at each ute. Take the average, & find out it there is a statistically significant difference in the speed. If there is no sig. diff. in speed, then aeach vehicle should get 3 points.
Am I the only one that always tends to take the side of the most " vulnerable" car or the one with the least power when Matt does these sorts of challenges?

No way to test an off-road vehicle. Off-road, you go as slow as possible, as fast as necessary.
