Mat and Yianni have gone head-to-head in SO many drag races, but this is the first time they’re facing off in an off-road challenge!
We’ve got Mat in the new Ford Ranger, and he’s going up against Yianni in a Toyota Hilux!
So let’s see how they compare. Starting with the new Ford Ranger, it’s powered by a 2-litre twin-turbo diesel, that can produce 205hp and 500Nm of torque. It comes with a switchable AWD system as well as a locking rear differential. It weighs in at around 2,400kg, and it costs from £39,000.
Next up it’s the Hilux. This is equipped with a 2.8-litre turbo Diesel engine that can put down 204hp and 420Nm. It also comes with some off-road capabilities, including a locking rear differential. It’s lighter than the Ford, at 2,100kg, but it’s also a bit more expensive, at £44,000.

tyres make such a difference and for the hilux to do that well on regular tyres vs the ranger on off road tyres shows just how good it is
What 🤣!? The ranger won that hands down. It only lost and came to a draw because of the host crappy driving. Almost like it was rigged to not make the Toyota look as bad as it truly was. You can't possibly think that Toyota actually did better 😔

@@smackledorfmcsween kids, with mud tyres and lift kit the ranger still lose in suspension travel with stock hilux suspension. i work in oil and gas too in rural area, the last we use ranger is 2008-2016. utterly crap unreliable car, from 2016-now the company change car to Mitsubishi strada which is better in all most than ranger except in comfort
I love the chemistry between these two. I can imagine how fun they are at parties. Hope theyre friends in real life.

To activate Hill Descent Control on the Hilux 2022 you need to be in H4 not L4 (and HDC light not flashing). Used it today and it's pretty slow down the hills.
HDC in Ranger works even in neutral, like many others vehicles. I supose than Hilux as the same.
Same with Toyota rav4. HDC needs to put the gear shifter into L Not in D.
Tyres makes a big difference in these challenges so the Ranger had an advantage here
Also difference rim size can impact
But the towbar and wider sidesteps put the ranger at a disadvantage.

The Hilux nailed it on stock tyres: No wonder it's the default truck for any serious off road work. 👌
There's a reason we almost exclusively use Hiluxes at our work. Even if they break down, you can still probably drive it to the mechanic's tent.
The Hilux running on standard HT tyres more than deserves the win. Those tyres on the Ford are such a HUGE advantage on these muddy conditions.
On looks alone I’d take the Ranger.

The Hilux is running Falken Wildpeaks. We swapped out the duellers for a trip to Norway as better on snow and ice in Sept, very slightly more of a aggressive all terrain.
Considering the Toyota also had more weight and worse centre of gravity with the tent on top and the ranger had better off road tyres the Toyota did extremely well.
I thought the Ranger was heavier by a few hundred kilos? Regardless they both did pretty great
@@jagger2001 he means in regards to the cargo weight. The Hilux was carrying around more weight than the Ranger because of the RTT.

Yianni's expression while the side step was scratching against the stone says how much he care about the cars and also being first time for the off road challenges he was nervous and his excitement was crazy. And with manual mode he made it... Always love to see Yianni in carwow... ❤️❤️❤️

Nah hilux is made to be driven roughly since it will survive pretty much anything lol. I have a manual 2014 hilux it's fun just trashing it around

Is the Hilux in this video the latest top spec offroad version? Because in that case I would say if you compared best to best, the Ranger Raptor would have it beat by quite some margin offroad.

@@migueljardim8177 No that’s not the top spec version, you can get the new Rogue or the new GR-S. And you can also get the HiLux in the 4.0 V6, which is much more powerful than the 2.8

I noticed that too, Ranger had more aggressive offies on.
Personally I would have dumped about 15psi out of the tyres, without losing too much off ground clearance
I loved the Graham offroad test including traction control test at 10:15 and an uphill climb at 3:12. I think he may have just won the competition.

I am from South Africa and would rather drive a Toyota from the 80's than a brand new Ford ranger. They don't make it passed 60 000 miles without costing you serious money at a workshop. Good show! Always watching.

With that new front fascia, the ranger is an obvious choice if i was in the market for a pickup. 80% looks of the actual raptor with almost none of it's drawbacks is a win-win.

Major lesson here: if you’re gonna do any serious off reading with your truck, remove the side steps!!!! Most of them are bolted to the frame so you can do some very serious damage. Also I’ve seen them bent up into the body of trucks and tear sheet metal and destroy paint

@@AutoMotoMaroc But when we talk about actual vehicle stats and what they can do offroad, the Raptor has the Hilux beat in just about every category save towing and hauling since it has softer suspension.
