- After working hard for a long time, my wife and I decided to get a Tesla electric car. We test drove several ones and my wife said she like the model X the most, so we ordered her one. Here is the video of her accepting it.

Wow your wife needs to be a bit more gentle with the charging port. And pressing the button once on the charger opens the port, it doesn't need to be hold-pressed.
Well, you do need to aim it toward the trunk area, not the door.

Hi Logan, we crunched the numbers on it and actually it would cost more to be part of the EV360 program. My wife only commutes about 20 miles a day. Enjoy your Tesla! -Dan
You would need to drive about 11k miles a year the first year to make it break even. $150 install + $30/month.
2nd year you would need only drive about 8k miles to break even.
Remember that your home charger is only about 85% efficient. You can get about 2.5 miles per kWh of battery consumed.

Congrats! And it's a 60D... which is now discontinued. That makes it extra special :)
With the 60D, t charges more efficiently and it is less wear on the battery. We are very pleased with it. -Dan
Daniel Oliver McElroy You're absolutely right. If I had the choice between a 75D and a 60D, I would lean towards the 60D for that exact reason. It's unfortunate that your 12V battery died - so soon too! But I truly hope you guys will enjoy the Tesla experience to the fullest! Cheers

Really looks good. Love your choice. I've just ordered at 75D, can't order 60D anymore! With the same rims - the best in my opinion. They improve range, comfort, tyre ware, reduce unsprung weight, ride curbs better, tyres are cheaper, have more suspension in the tyre wall and less mass to accelerate and decelerate and more aerodynamic and less rolling resistance and track better.

Congratulations! But I must add that my Mercedes delivery experience was quite different. Very dramatic....the car was covered with a black shroud with just a Mercedes logo. A stand beside it with a notice with my name on it. Then the delivery person dramatically lifted the shroud to UNVEIL my car....amazing! Then a bottle on champagne...a sheaf of flowers...and a bag of goodies like logo'd umbrella, coffee cups, hats, etc.
Yes, that is the only part of this we were dramatically underwhelmed. When you spend that much on a product that is being tailor made for you, you would think that Tesla would want you to have a delivery experience that matched the car. -Dan
Ozboyz60 lucky you to have a great Mercedes dealer. My Mercedes ML250 was covered in smudges and had to be detailed again, inside and out. Then my salesperson delivered it to me on the parking lot in the rain. He didn’t even drive it under the covered service aisle. No frills, no fuss, no photos. It all depends on the location, from what I hear.
I hope your wife is still enjoying the Model X. Would love to hear any feedback since its purchase a few months back. I'm patiently waiting for my Model 3, which will be my first electric (and Tesla) vehicle.

Wish my wife was okay with the 60d or even the 75 she calmed the battery range was not long enough plus she wanted the upgraded rims (which I also wanted due to the standard ones looking horrible) sure did give me sticker shock compared to the 60d I had been pricing out but happy wife happy life... Hope you guys are enjoying your tesla !
I doubt you "need" the extra range. The 60D is without a doubt the best value. You can (in theory, I wish Tesla would just come out and say it) safely fill it to 100% which basically gives you 90% of what you'd get with a 75.
The rims from Tesla are heavily marked up, you can get the same ones aftermarket from TSportline: tsportline.com

Josh McCullough its never good to charge a lithium ion battery to 100% whether it be a car or a cell phone. Over time it kills the batteries sells, that is likely why they do not recommend it.
Faizan Ishaq The 60 has a 75 kWh battery pack which is software limited to 62 kWh. Therefore, charging to 100% is only charging too about 82% of the actual capacity.

Congrats on your new car! How did you get the 60D Model X with the enhanced hardware/autopilot? I thought they discontinued the 60D before they released Autopilot 2.0.
Hi Paul, we ordered the 60D during the small window it was available, then tesla called us and asked if we wanted to upgrade to the higher level autopilot, we said yes and paid an additional amount for the advanced AP and that was that. -Dan

Hi Bill! We got the 60D. We did a study and found we would never be more than 120 miles away from a charger. We got every option minus the large audio system and larger battery. -Dan
Great choice, we drive a lot of long distance trips so we decided to get the P100D. We went with the S because of the extra additional range over the X. We actually liked the X a bit more, beautiful car. Hopefully you were able to get auto pilot 2.0? A bunch of updates coming out over the next week. Enjoy.

Nice looking car. How far can you go on a full charge? What's the life expectancy on the battery and does Telsa replace it for free or do you have to pay for a new one? My Prius has a 201 volt lithium-ion battery. I believe, if I remember right, that Prius batteries are warranted for ten years. What do they install in the Telsa? Need to make a longer video showing all the features that it has.
Hi Ken. Her car can do 200 miles (320 Kilometers) per charge. The largest battery pack can do 325 miles (520 kilometers) per charge. The cars have been out since 2012. They said preliminary numbers are showing that after 4 years, there is less than a 5% battery degradation. Right now, it is too early to know how the batteries will do. This is a lithium based battery. Her car has about 7,400 batteries the size of double A cells.
They just came out with 100D battery packs that go 295 miles; new Model S refresh goes up to 335 miles. The lithium ion batteries last a while if the tesla roadsters are any indication. Dozen plus years use and still 85-90% charge retention. And the rumor is next gen will supercharge 2-3x faster.
If you can afford it, you don't need to worry about the batteries. And there are plenty of used ones for 1/3 the price.
Awake in WA, not a dozen + years, yet, on the Roadster. 2008 -2012 were the years.

What kind of idiot will go spend such amount of money for that vehicle? Not that the vehicle is bad, but what kind of fucking job does a person need to do to pay for this? It's so expensive that it offsets all the savings that electric cars bring. I just bought a brand new 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel for 22,500 and I get around 700 miles on a tank of Diesel.

Your exhaust emissions are giving people cancer, early death and fucking up the planet. So yeh, that's why they got one. Not to mention the comfort, convenience, speed, accelaration, auto driving, etc, etc.
And what about battery production, recycling and the electricity generation that in many cases comes from coal. So diverting shit from A to B doesn't make it cleaner. Everything you do requires energy and some form of polluting footprint. I do like electric cars, but being a zealot about it is what's wrong. And most people don't buy electrics because they have no tailpipe. They buy them if they are cheaper to run/operate. That's the bottom line with 98% of car owners.

Considering how much these cost, you would have thought that they would manage to send it out fully charged, and not be stuck in the corner of the showroom!! Lovely car, but looked like a fairly underwhelming collection experience.

We have had one recall where they needed to check a bolt (took 1.5 days and the gave us a loaner P85) and 2 of the rear seats had very deep cuts across the leather (they pointed it out during delivery) and they will replace those seats in 2 weeks. Other than that, no issues and the car is amazing! Enjoy your MS! -Dan
Any idea what caused the cuts in the seats? I assume it was during delivery otherwise it would have been caught in the factory?
