Actually more than Viv, Clive Loyed was more devastating and punishing to the Australian fast bowlers. But more than his batting he was famous for his captaincy. In 1976 actually WI had very good spinners and fast bowlers couldn't do good against even Indians. But still on Fifth test he put his captaincy, even his place in the team on edge and kicked out all spinners from WI team ( including his own cousin Lance Gibbs), and went with those 4 inexperienced fast bowlers and directed them only to bowl fast. I have had the fortune to see that WI team in action live. Must say it was one of the best teams in the world. Viv Richards was the best batsman I have seen.
The fire, the intensity, the will, the character to turn things around is what lured me to cricket as a youngster. Only a handful possess that trait on-field now
This a great story wonderfully narrated. This may seem unsporting but it gives me great pleasure to see Australia cricketers getting it. In cricket history they have practised many ignominious tactics that made them "great".
Love the documentary as it is told from the eyes of a fan , cricket journalist its earthy.. Also India was the first team to see the origins of this approach ... in the doc gavaskar gave up the match
Sir Viv is my idol.. Noone, absolutely noone so far in the history of the game is no match for him. With due respect to all world class players of then and now, Viv is a class apart. His swag, the aggression mixed with gentleness, the cool mindset, ferocious stare, fearless attitude makes him stand apart. He might not be the stylish or technically correct one.. Yet he is deadly effective. Imagine his team mates' confidence when the lion is around them..
We're not talking about averages, technique longevity etc. This is about the man who could intimidate any bowling attack anywhere, could turn a game on its head and created a buzz around the ground as soon as he entered the arena. Viv had an aura presence and swagger never matched. Noone comes close in these aspects and i was lucky enough to see him live. Awesome. Sir Viv.
That bouncer didn't change anything. Viv miss timed the hookshot and got hit. Either way, the West Indies went back to Australia for revenge and nothing would've prevented that. Viv Richards, The' Master Blaster'! Great video, thoroughly enjoyed!

Though the highlight was king viv here let’s not forget what a great captain Clive Lloyd was. The role that he played here will probably define him as the greatest captain cricket has ever seen .
MAN, love your storytelling skills. For someone who has never seen him bat, it might be hard to fathom why he's called a G.O.A.T. but your storytelling does an excellent job❤️
You tell the story well I watched that awesome foursome as a kid. I played rep cricket in 80’s no helmets it’s hard to explain to those now wearing helmets how mentally fatiguing high quality fast bowling was to face over after over. The 4 were all great bowlers wonder how well they would go now, one major issue was under 10 overs per hour. For Malcom M who came later was the best of them and the one who would have dominated even today.
That 1975-76 tour of Australia was awesome...first test in Brisbane was the first test I ever attended. Thommo was scary fast, Lillie brilliant, Chappells & Walters fantastic.
Whoever you are, the bouncer were first introduced in the infamous Bodyline series between Australia and England way back in 1930's. when Australia were on the other end. But having said that, Sir Viv Richards was the greatest batsman of all eras. he cleared boundaries in SCG and MCG when there were no ropes around the boundary line
Incorrect. Bouncers had been used by fast bowlers ever since overarm bowling was legalised in the 1850s. And 'Bodyline' - the dreaded combination of bouncers with 'leg theory' , where you have a packed close leg side field - had also been seen in cricket before. It was often used on flat pitches in county cricket in England in the 1920s. The Nottinghamshire captain A.W. Carr, for example, was famous for deploying it in the 1920s, so Sussex player and future England 'Bodyline 'captain Jardine would have seen it often. In fact, Bradman was famously subjected to a bouncer barrage in a Australia match against Notts,I think, who had Larwood and Voce, the future Bodyline series opening bowlers, in the previous 1930 tour. This first gave English players the feeling that Bradman didn't like the short ball. So you're mistaken.
@@agbeagbe7772 I cant disagree with those facts but the fact still is that Sir Viv Richards, cleared fields on SCG and MCG when the boundaries were not shortened, for the gallery. Cricket is the only sports where apart from the 22 yards pitch, the ground has no real kind of measurement, in terms of rules or shape. But having said that, one of the reasons why a lot of sixes are being hit is mainly due to the quality of the willows which have been scientifically advanced. Not in older times when one has to knock those bats over a period of time. Nowadays one gets bats which has sweet spot all over them. And further more, during present times since the boundaries are shortened considerably, the batsman knows one good miss hit will clear boundaries. The primary observation was about *Sir Isaac Vivian Alexander Richards*
This is an excellent piece of storytelling, thank you for sharing! This was from just before I started playing and watching cricket. I really started watching in '78, and the Windies were the best team around. They had some phenomenal players... Sir Viv, "the King" - one of the best and most exciting batsman to ever play the game The bowling lineup of Garner, Holding, Marshall and Andy Roberts are possibly the best quartet of pace bowlers ever seen (my favourite bowler of all time is Curtley Ambrose) And they also had one of the best opening partnerships in cricket at the time (possibly of all time?) in Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes Not to mention the captaincy of Clive Lloyd pulling the strings Legends all
I loved watching the Windies play the Aussies during the 1980’s and 90’s. Even though I wanted Australia to win I still enjoyed the contest that the Windies gave us. Vic, what a legend, the Master Blaster 😊
Bro, one episode on west indies tour to australia under captaincy of Frank Worrell would be awesome. Windies faced racism at the beginning of tour, but went on the change the australian mindset by the end of tour.
Excellent video, very well written and presented. What a player was Viv. His stats might not have been as good as some others, but he had that capacity to galvanize the crowd with his presence, and his stroke play and attitude proves that stats aren't everything, not by a long shot. Clearly the dominant batsman in world cricket since WW2.
There is a big mistake in the timeline described here... the series referred to happened after the 1979 World Cup, and Australia and West Indies had played a test series before this in the Caribbean in 1978, which the West Indies won 2-1. Both teams were without some of their best players though. The larger points are valid though.
Thrilling video. The rise and dominance of the West Indies cricket. Though I am Indian but I say without a doubt that this West Indian cricket team was my favorite

Thanks for taking us into the heart of this story the way many sports channels do not. The intensity of the contest and personality of the players comes across.
Viv Richards was like Superman saying "Not Impressed" with swagger to every bowler who bowled at him.....
Thanks for making this. Although I remember how dominant the West Indies were for so long and remember their inaugural World Cup win, I just assumed that their rise to the top had started around the time of that victory and continued uninterrupted. Their heavy defeat in Australia following the World Cup had completely slipped under my radar.
Nobody in Australia cared about the World Cup back then, it was seen as Mickey Mouse.
Yeah sure, nobody in Australia cared about worldcup while wiping of their crocodile tears. The excuses lol
Whenever I feel myself detach from this sport , I watch your videos.... And the goosebumps I get !!!
Just hats off to you brother for making this channel ❤️
Don't cling on to the sport! Cling on to the wonderful stories and the story-tellers! Afterall, it's just a game, but it's definitely part of life and can have wonderful lessons for life!

Those are the days when cricket was nice.
The swagger on that man is epic. So glad I got to see Viv play live, even though it was the third day in Sydney 1985. Just a joy to watch him play.
Strong Indian-accented narration notwithstanding, this is just the finest portrayal of the making and initiation of the "fearsome foursome" ever! I am WIndian myself and a casual cricket fan but never was as clear about what took place then as I am now. Great information, CRE, and wonderful perspective. Thanks a lot!

You don't like the accent? You can p*** right off.
An Indian narrator having a strong Indian accent is odd to you?
@@arunavagupta9382, in case it's the word "WIndian" that confuses you, most cricketing folks know that to mean "West Indian", so I apologise if you weren't aware. If that's not it, than go look for your fight somewhere else.
--Æ.
Might consider reading the comments you reply to champ. The narrator of the video is Indian, I have not mentioned your nationality anywhere. It is completely natural to have an accent, ergo there was no need to comment on his "strong Indian-accented narration", and not everything not to your liking is a "fight". Enjoy your day.
@@arunavagupta9382, you, yourself, might consider not commenting where your comment is unnecessary. "Strong Indian-accented narration notwithstanding..." is what I prefaced my comment with, and I stand by that. What that suggests is that I had some level of difficulty following... yet I "never was as clear about what took place then as I am now".
I see 35 likes there in the 11 months since posting and you're the first to take issue with something. Enjoy your day too, bigger champ.

It gives pleasure to hear the courageous persons who fought in the past memorable battles.

Sir Vivian is an inspiration to cricketers of every generation. What a player
No wonder why this Man likes Kholi the most. Same attitude same hunger!
Current windies team loves only big bash ipl n other rich leagues 🤣

As poor as the west I does team is now you can always find one or two outstanding cricketers in the team
Thank you for bringing back the Great in West indies cricket, it was a ripe period of absolutely phonnamal talent stuff. Which likes have never been seen again. ❤
Ambrose Walsh holder the west Indies attack still gives me nightmares and the pure swarveness of the batters unstoppable

Excellent video mate - even as an Aussie who grew up in this era I appreciate your work. Thanks so much
The event of rivalry between these two teams became like thriller movie when u explained... bhaiya!!
Nowadays australia's d team can demolish west Indies in every format at any venue at any time nowadays west Indies are minnows
Sir Viv Richards, a legend who can send the same ball in three diffrent directions for a six,,,, love you Sir
Swam, your presentation of the dramatic psychological events are absolutely brilliant and engrossing. Your way of delivering the story immaculate as it hits the head of the nail to perfection
I have had the fortune to see that WI team in action live. Must say it was one of the best teams in the world. Viv Richards was the best batsman I have seen.
I became a fan of Viv Richards after seeing this video.. Didn't know much about this test series vs Australia before..
Watch Fire in Babylon documentary.
The fire, the intensity, the will, the character to turn things around is what lured me to cricket as a youngster.
Only a handful possess that trait on-field now
Loved that West Indies team. Pure excitement!
The best I've seen. And I've seen Tendulkar, Ponting, Hayden, Lara. He was just intimidating. And that swagger!
Beautiful commentary, the story is well told, details shown .I finally understand after 40 years. Thank you very much publisher.
It's complete nonsense mate.
Awesome video, I was about 9 years old and my day was listening to the game on the radio in Guyana, SA.
Love your narration - you captured that era so well. Loved West Indian cricket & especially Viv - what a force of nature he was 🔥
This a great story wonderfully narrated. This may seem unsporting but it gives me great pleasure to see Australia cricketers getting it. In cricket history they have practised many ignominious tactics that made them "great".
"Fire in Babylon" a documentary on the rise of West Indies as a cricket superpower. I recommend every cricket fan to watch it.
Where is this available
The word grovel ...
Love the documentary as it is told from the eyes of a fan , cricket journalist its earthy.. Also India was the first team to see the origins of this approach ... in the doc gavaskar gave up the match

Absolutely 💯
Sir Viv is my idol.. Noone, absolutely noone so far in the history of the game is no match for him. With due respect to all world class players of then and now, Viv is a class apart. His swag, the aggression mixed with gentleness, the cool mindset, ferocious stare, fearless attitude makes him stand apart. He might not be the stylish or technically correct one.. Yet he is deadly effective. Imagine his team mates' confidence when the lion is around them..
Sir Viv Richards , you earn my respect 🙇♂️💪
We're not talking about averages, technique longevity etc. This is about the man who could intimidate any bowling attack anywhere, could turn a game on its head and created a buzz around the ground as soon as he entered the arena. Viv had an aura presence and swagger never matched. Noone comes close in these aspects and i was lucky enough to see him live. Awesome. Sir Viv.
I just loved your commentary. So analytical and adequately dramatic. Wonderful!
That bouncer didn't change anything. Viv miss timed the hookshot and got hit. Either way, the West Indies went back to Australia for revenge and nothing would've prevented that. Viv Richards, The' Master Blaster'! Great video, thoroughly enjoyed!
The Legend 👍 sir Viv Richards.
Lovely clippings about the greatest of cricket player Viv Richard proving the might of the African Origin entire team of West Indies. A humbke salute to all but a special one for my favorite VIV RICHARDS💕💕💕🙏👍👏👌🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Though the highlight was king viv here let’s not forget what a great captain Clive Lloyd was. The role that he played here will probably define him as the greatest captain cricket has ever seen .
Truly! And Viv was like a warrior
MAN, love your storytelling skills. For someone who has never seen him bat, it might be hard to fathom why he's called a G.O.A.T. but your storytelling does an excellent job❤️
Fire in Babylon summed up in 10min AND very well done may I add. 👏 Thank you.
You are welcome Sir! Thanks for making this video! Thank you to the game of cricket, and the gentleman who played it! 🇯🇲🇺🇸🖤🙏🏾
I am lucky i had watched Sir Viv batting in my childhood. Love from India Viv Sir 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
That 1975-76 tour of Australia was awesome...first test in Brisbane was the first test I ever attended. Thommo was scary fast, Lillie brilliant, Chappells & Walters fantastic.
The narration, videos and story were simply awesome!
All put together in the perfect rhythm backed by your amazing voice. 🫡🫡🫡
Viv was king of cricket. We have not seen anyone even close to him since then.
What a player and what a character!!!
What a phenomenal storyteller you are !!!!
Awesome this gentleman knows how to be tough that is something this current generation of West Indies cricket is lacking
@@chetia666 Viv wasn't the only player to hit sixes by clearing the fence at the SCG and MCG. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
This is an excellent piece of storytelling, thank you for sharing! This was from just before I started playing and watching cricket. I really started watching in '78, and the Windies were the best team around.
They had some phenomenal players...
Sir Viv, "the King" - one of the best and most exciting batsman to ever play the game
The bowling lineup of Garner, Holding, Marshall and Andy Roberts are possibly the best quartet of pace bowlers ever seen (my favourite bowler of all time is Curtley Ambrose)
And they also had one of the best opening partnerships in cricket at the time (possibly of all time?) in Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes
Not to mention the captaincy of Clive Lloyd pulling the strings
Legends all
This is one of the best videos in your channel. Perfect script, perfect narration! You have come a long way dude! Keep it up.
I loved watching the Windies play the Aussies during the 1980’s and 90’s. Even though I wanted Australia to win I still enjoyed the contest that the Windies gave us. Vic, what a legend, the Master Blaster 😊
I was literally hoping that u might see fire in babylon sometime...its nice that somebody finally told that story at a good platform
It's rightly said how your response to negativity and to your enemies defines your solidarity and character. Viv showed everyone.
Steve Waugh-We won 16 tests in a row
Viv Richards-Hold my beer.
Viv Richards: We didnt lose a test series in 15 years
They lost to New Zealand in NZ during that time , the only loss
@@aniket385 They was robbed by horrible umpires
@@hadtrt3456 Rubbish. I agree that the umpiring was crap, but their technique against Hadlee was awful. They would've lost, even without the umps....
I believe the Australian test team won 16 matches in a row - twice.
Brilliance indeed. Double Love I love Cricket and I love the way our Indian Cricketers explain it.
The walk of viv richards is like a lion entering💪
That's how legends are born. Great sir, Vivian Richard
Bro, one episode on west indies tour to australia under captaincy of Frank Worrell would be awesome. Windies faced racism at the beginning of tour, but went on the change the australian mindset by the end of tour.
Bullshit, that team was popular in Australia from the start.
Now Australia relies on hiring umpires and tampering the ball. Only they know how many other ways they use to cheat
Was actually 3-1
Because of WSC the Aussies were a 3rd string team.
Sir Viv Respect. Kids of 80s and me being one. Take a bow.
If cricket is a school, Sir Viv is the Principal
Plz feel free to add more.
Thrilling video. The rise and dominance of the West Indies cricket. Though I am Indian but I say without a doubt that this West Indian cricket team was my favorite
Just love your story telling, Sir Viv Richards & the rest of the WI team brought the thrill to cricket 🏏. I waiting for them to do it again just like the old days 😀
One of the greatest cricket stories i came across perhaps the best of sporting history 👏
As well as his tough attitude, let's not forget, he was also an amazing athlete.
thanks for this piece of history reminding us of the glory days when west indies cricketers was doninant and serious about their cricket now is ashame to see how we are struggling against teams like Netherlands,Scotland etc
