When a Bowler Batted for 238 minutes to save India's Pride | India vs England 2002 - Test 1 |Cricket

- It was the beginning of a brutal battle
The English man reeling after the natwest defeat
While the Indians setting up for opvercoming a historic barriar
The test series that was to come
Was to become a legend in cricket
It started from celebrations that followed the Indian natwest victory
Indian players had demanded the Englishman to hand over that champagne bottle.
With ravi shastri coming down from the commentary box,
Roads was crowded with Indian fans, cheering and waving Indian flag.
An emotional Sourav Ganguly thanked the team and announced the BCCI bonus. Rahul Dravid too thanked the team once again tried to retire from his wicket keeping duties.
But they weren’t aware of the storm brewing.
A distraught English team, sad about their loss, watching the shirtless foreign captain at THEIR Lords.
They now had only one thing in mind
Payback
Captain Naseer Hussain was facing a challenge
Most of his team had been injured
Is Andrew Flintoff complaining of serious groin pain.
But still within a few days of loss, team was back to practice.
To practice and to plan.
To plan that this time India would not escape
Starting from Targeting Sachin.
Naseer had this plan in his mind. Not getting Sachin out directly. Asking Ashley Giles to pitch the ball outside leg stump. Frustrating Sachin into taking a bad shot.
Giles did manage to stump Sachin out, For first time in his test career.
But still sachin had became player of the series.
And bringing this plan back
Similar plans were creted For each and every batsman.
Sehwag was baited to give his wicket
dada was angered into
taking solace from india’s test record in England
As the sun rose on first test, hopes were high, expectations reaching the sky
England’s plan was simple,
Win the toss
Bat defensively for first few sessions.
Putting early pressure on India.
English captain made his way to the ground after two wickets.
Defence on his mind. His first 60 runs took 60 overs.
And he could have continued the same if not for the cramp.
And so he decided to shift gears
Going on the attack
His one decision changed the entire course of the match.
A Player who had taken 128 balls for 50 runs, was now completing his century in next 64 balls.
He set the tone; others followed the suit.
Flintoff 59, White 53, Crawley 64, Jones 44
and the cramp ridden captain 155
together for 487 runs
in response
English bowlers followed their strategy
with controlled bowling came uncontrolled aggression
and after starting strong by Sehwag 84,
they quickly went from 128 for 2 to 221 all out.
Dada sat on the same Lord’s balcony, where he celebrated the victory 10 days ago.
Humiliated.
The next day, it was they repeat telecast of the previous match.
England hitting 300 runs in 65 overs
Final target of 567 runs.
Well, the repeat telecast was shown by the Indian team too.
India collapsing like a pack of cards
4 wickets left, Laxman along with 3 bowlers.
Everyone knew, the game was over.
The only question that remained was how badly will India will get defeated.
Cricket is a game of unpredictable and unforeseen
And what exactly happened - proved this
Ajit Agarkar
Carrying a batting average on 7.81, known for his ducks.
Initial playing defensively, he later realised that he won’t survive this way
And so he attacked.
Reducing what could have been a 397 runs defeat
To just 170 runs
Yes, India did lose, and England did win
But the victories smile was muted,
In front of Ajit Agarkar who was 109 not out.
The baller that had scored a century at lords
#cricket #revenge #thriller
I always feel that Agarkar never got the credit that he deserves. He always remained unnoticed and underrated.
His performance was not consistent, Due to him we lost many matches
@@good_life8888 still got a better odi stats than zhaheer!
@@good_life8888 due to sachin also we loat many matches
Gave too many wides in a game and that was the reason for his disappearance
Agarkar didn't place a value on his wicket. I wonder if he had anyone kicking his ass into performing better.
Literally had goosebumps after hearing Agarakar's name. It brought back the highlights of his innings which was awesome to watch
Everything is temporary; but Shastri and wine being together is permanent. 😂😂😂

I remember this test series so vividly...after losing the lords test the fortunes turned for team india.. sehwag opened for the first time and the world got to see how test opening was gonna be in the future.. but i remember this test series specially for the headingly test..one of the rare occasions when the big 3 fired in unison on a pitch where the indian batting was supposed to fold.. dravid 148, sachin 193 and dada 128...who can forget sachin and dada's brutal onslaught in absolute darkness!! It rained sixes in the dark!! I think dravid got 3 back to back 100s if i remember correctly (and got another one back home in india to make it 4 on the trot).. as usual another solid video and a solid story!! Big fan!!
Dude you just spoiled the next video... Brilliant....

Those tours, bilaterals, tri series were just ❤
Now even World Cup matches doesn't give that kick
True
Stuck in nostalgia
Nothing but nostalgia ride, back then we used to win much less despite having some of the greatest ever players in Indian cricket history, so even those bilateral & tri series win felt overly special than it actually was.
Absolutely.... Dont know why they stopped triseries
Watching the old Indian cricket batting line up play was like witnessing poetry in motion.
Before there was Lord Shardul Thakur, There was one Lord Ajit Agarkar
Kaun?
Pehle to shardul ko lund bolo lord nahi usne kuchh nahi ukhada IPL me dekhle abhi hug raha hai , team India me bhi nahi hai abb 😂
shardul is shit
@@AnokhoLifafo IPL apni gand me dalo. Gabba me match jitaya hai, Australia me series jitaya hai. 10 IPL aur 40 T20 world cup se jyada ukhada hai bhai ne.
Abse cricket me kuch bhi nahi kiya to bhi bohot kuch kiya hai usne. Teri umar bohot kam hogi chutye is liye Australia me series win ki value nahi samajh rahi tereko. 2017 tak to humko lagta tha ki kabhi jindagi me aisa dekhne milega kya. Azhar, Sachin, Kumble, Dravid ke career nikal gaye series nahi jeete Australia. Lord Shardul (Gill, Pant, Washington, Siraj ke saath) aaya aur harta hua match aur series jita diya. To madarchod ke bacche, Shardul ne kya ukhada kabhi puch mat.
Let's make it viral #LordAjitAgarkar 😂😂 ❤
Agarkar was fairly useful batsman and had won few ODI matches with his batting alone before this test match. Unfortunately, he could not have the same impact as he had on ODIs but had played memorable knocks as a batsman in domestic circuit at crunch stages. He and Zaheer really brought India's pace bowling bowling attack back on the track.
Ganguly is one of the greatest cricket captain. ❤Though there were Fab-4 Fab-5, the team was not just only dependent on them. Every player in the team would emerge as a hero in one or the other match. India was no longer just dependent on couple of players in every match.
You made yourself felt at that "Incrrredibly..." 7:21 😊
Genuinely being AA fan this video was the only thing that i wanted such a golden day for him and yet such an underrated player sometimes I feel he deserved more respect back than
Love your channel. Cricket is so much more than just hitting shots. Love your work in bringing out the stories behind the game. We need more of such work!
I love the narrator's style. the pace of the narration was good also. good prose. Also Ajit Agarkar was one of my favourite Indian bowlers of that time. He never gave up.
Ajit Agarkar was a delight to watch at the batting order. Very unpredictable! I still recall my dad & I celebrating and laughing everytime Ajit hit a boundry or a six. He made that lower order feel alive & entertaining 😅
Simply unbelievable, Sourav Ganguly did made a historic decision of promoting Sehwag to open. I have watched the next video of your this series and yes, I also believe that back then for India it was always nearly impossible to win a test series in England & Australia in particular. But not only did Ganguly's decision shaped Sehwag's career but India successfully drew that test series with a 1-1 margin.
What many people do not know is, how strong Agarkar is - mentally. He was facing a lot of personal life hardships, lot of gossips, personal loss during 2000-2002. It was after this match, he left all the demons back and kept moving forward.
Bhai, thanks for bringing cricket matches to reality
It just looks like a normal match
But this things are not seen a lot of times
This make cricket match so much more real
Finally the most awaited video is here😍😍😍
Remember this series with faintest of memory and thst being India in an inning already had been scored 500+ and still going about 10runs every over with Dada leading the charge...Those were the glory days of Indian batting...
Honestly I don't remember much of that series, I think for most of us NatWest final gave the true satisfaction. But yes, Dada's another decision with Viru-opening changed again the course of Indian Cricket. Such was his foresight. I have not seen many captains whose each critical decisions changed the trajectory of his team. A true legend, miss him very much.
this man ganguly deserves a biopic to be streamed in theatres
Waited so long for the 3rd part. Thank you.
Ur nrrtion nd the speech r just too good.. U got to be next to harsha bhogle in story telling.. Love ur work.
I love the way you narrate the stories. Love every episode. Keep it coming! 😊

Narration incredible, remember the last day when I got out of college to leave for home just done with an internal test. Saw that Agarkar suddenly became a legend scoring century at Lord's 😂😂😂 though defeat was inevitable suddenly I felt that sometimes our bowlers are just actors who act like they can't bat, but willing they can torment or put to shame even top order batters.. for a guy who scored a fastest 50 but at times got 7 ducks.. But that was one heck of Era of super cricketers. On a given they were lions, and another day opposition were lions
Leeds test was India's best over seas victory till the last ind vs aus Gabba test
Oh yes sir!! Headingley, leeds 2002 was something else... i'll never forget that test ever...
an almost same scenario occurred when Shami & Bumrah batted in the last series on the same ground.
They led us to a win from a losing position.
I thought my grandchildren would have to wait till puberty before this video comes out.
P.s. I'm 20

“It was so wierd” - Sorry Mr. Narrator. It wasn’t wierd. Gem of an innings from Ajit Agarkar.
sir your content is amazing.
hope you make a video on india's 2003 wc journey.
and 1996 wc semi final. 👍
At that time, though we didn't have as many alrounders as we have today, it was that time which is called the GOLDEN ERA of Indian cricket and the Fab Five gave us this new generation of cricket fever which went on to get the world cups. In fact it was those youngsters who were groomed under the captaincy of Dada n gentlemen cricketers like Sachin sir n Dravid Kumble n Laxman who made up bulk of the team under Dhoni ryt. So they were the demi gods of cricket without which BCCI wouldn't have got all the money, name n fame it had got. 🙏
Hey Man! Absolutely love your well researched videos with clear, eloquent wordings. Still waiting on the part 2 of the Ramiz Video as it gave a really different perspective, one that I hadn't thought of before despite being in touch regularly with cricket news. Greatly anticipating part 2
Agarkar!! Biggest AA fan
Brilliant narration as always. Waiting with bated breath for your notification to pop up on my screen. Good luck.
Well narrated and waiting for your next video...
The most effective way to affect a team's morale is to make them stay on the field for a few sessions more than necessary. England would have loved to have wrapped this up on Day 4 and have a rest day, but instead they were out there until after lunch on Day 5, for a result that always belonged to them.
Long partnerships have changed courses of entire series. Like Laxman-Dravid at Eden Gardens, Pietersen-Cook in Mumbai, du Plessis-de Villiers at Adelaide or Cook-Trott at the Gabba. The bowling teams were in dominant positions before the partnership, but those partnerships tired them mentally and physically and it affected them in the other matches of the series too.
Still remember this series for Rahul Dravid's 148* at Headingley, carrying his bat through the team total of 300-odd
It's coming...😃
Sanjay Bangar being deployed as opener in the next match and seeing out the first 2 hours.
Oh no no no no no.... rahul dravid did score the magnificient 148 but he did not carry his bat... he was dismissed after which sachin made 193 and ganguly made 128... and india scored a ton of runs declaring their innings at 628/8.. india won that test by an innings and 46 runs!! How can u forget the assault sachin and dada launched on the english bowlers in absolute darkness at the end of day 2!! Its etched in my memory forever... also sanjay bangar scored an incredible 68 which together with dravid negated any advantage that eng had hoped for on a quick and seaming wicket in helpful conditions...day 1 was all about patience, resolve and technique with bangar and dravid ... day 2 was when eng got the living daylights kicked out of them by sachin and ganguly... it still remains one of the most incredible test matches that i have witnessed..
@@kaushikgoswami5845 he didnt just see off 2 hours... dravid and bangar saw off most of the day 1 with their 170 run partnership.. bangar finished with 68 with almost 250 balls faced!!
@@vibrantvittlesvlogs yes sorry, I only meant to convey the importance of this innings, as everyone was expecting India to bat second fearing the pitch. But Ganguly took a brave decision and Dravid validated it with grit and opened the doors for Sachin and others to make merry.
Dravid did score 140 odd and carried his bat through the innings but it was in 4th test of 2011 India tour of England ❤️

Nasser said how distraught the English cricket team was after this game. I wonder, how distraught would teams be nowadays after losing a cricket game, especially in T20 or ODI. In T20, there's too many of them going on to care if you lose. In ODI, there's too few of them to care if you lose

Brother, I have watched most of your videos in this 6 months , which are made in the past 3 years. The only thing I want to tell you is simple . There is something is missing in your videos which is present in those old videos. Weather it's story telling or the edits / etc..., I can't articulate.but something is changed .
And one thing is for sure those videos are not boring than the present one's. Hope you consider my words ❕

128 balls for 50 runs is very normal in test cricket, and Naseer's final score was 155 off 355 balls , which is again, not counted as onslaught !!!
Hard to tell wgat this oost is aboyt.
The only 6 hit in the 4th innings was by Ashish Nehra
