    Sri Lanka vs England
    So what do you do when there is a young blooming talent named Muthaiya Murlidharan.
    Who has an unorthodox balling action,
    Can turn the ball like magic
    And is sure to take spin balling to new heights?
    Well of course, you make the umpires - Darell Hair and Ross Emerson accuse him of chucking the ball and then put him on probation , so that he can't play anymore..
    Obvious isn't it?
    But what if then ICC does a comprehensive investigation into his balling action and clear him of all wrong doings?
    Well then you decide to complete ignore that and you go ahead and hatch plot involving umpires, media and players to make sure that you destroy that players career....
    Simple....
    At least that's what Australian cricket board and umpires tried to do...
    This is the story
    Of the plan to destroy this cricket legend.
    And the one man - Arjun Ranatunga
    Who Put everything at risk
    To stop it from happening.

    Ranatunga had real guts. This was in the late 1990s when Asian block was still to emerge as the top financial power in cricket. Australian Cricket Board thought that they could still kick us around.
    Imran, Ranatunga and Ganguly. Three captains who changed the way their countries played cricket. Brought real pride and removed centuries old inferiority complex.

      All the umpire did (what other umpires were stating in private but too bloody scared to act on) was to call no balls due to his action. Which by the way was why the ICC changed the rule to allow him to continue.
      It isn’t the first time an Australian umpire has called someone for an illegal bowling action.
      Colin Egar from South Australia called him in a test match against South Africa no balled him for an illegal action in 1963. When Richie Benaud was informed he pulled Meckiff out of the balling attack, no carrying on like a pork chop like Ranatunga, Benaud accepted the call.
      If it Murali had a legal action, why did the change the rules.
      Captains behaving badly.
      The funny part about this is, the ICC had heard 12 months before that the majority of umpires privately had concerns about his actions, yet the ICC and Sri Lankan cricket did absolutely nothing to address this situation.
      Stop blaming the umpire for carrying out the rule correctly! Blame those who sat on their hands and did nothing.

      @@srujanasri4584 what a load of crap. Firstly there is the correct way to go about it as R. Benaud did when Meckiff from Australia was deemed to have an illegal action . No need to remonstrate as Ranatunga did.
      Secondly the Umpire was following the rules of cricket and carried out his duties by informing the captain and the bowler. He had 3 warnings . If the umpire was wrong why did the ICC then change the degree so the bowler was allowed to continue his career.
      Australia has never been jealous of any Country in sports at all. Considering our population we punch well above our weight.

    Ranathunga is a Sinhalese. And Muttaiya is a Tamil. Belong to two ethnicities. As LTTE charging us with the racism, see. Our captain stopped the match for sake of Muttaiya. He can close his eyes and carry on with no issues if he didn't do anything and let murali get bullied.

      To me Daryl Hair was something of a control freak. He called a no ball. It's his opinion and his call. However once the action was cleared, which it was, that should have been the end of it. Emerson was clearly out of his mind calling him.

    Please do a video on how the 15 degree limit came about. There is a lot of misinformation being peddled by Aussie/English media to this day. The fact that during the 2004 champions trophy McGrath, Lee and Pollock recorded 15+ degrees of straightening doesn't seem to get mentioned at all. The fact that ICC only changed it from 10 to 15 was driven by the fact that 99% of bowlers had that flex seems to get lost. There is a nice reference if you google "The 15-degree question - ESPN Cricinfo". We need a similar video to shine light on this so people don't peddle false adages like "ICC changed the rules for Murali".

    • @GregNangle
      @GregNangle 2 роки тому

      @@anindyaxyz4080 - Jayden didn't say he knew more than the ICC. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, that if you watch all those bowlers and pick one who looks most like he's chucking, it won't be McGrath, Lee or Pollock. And that's precisely what the umpires are doing - watching and making a call based on what they see. It's easy to understand why one of these bowlers was called out while the others weren't. If you don't agree, then you are biased. Even my mother, who isn't at all interested in cricket, thought Murali looked questionable. In the end, he was cleared. But that does not mean what you see is not what you see. It just means what you see can be misleading sometimes.

    • @anindyaxyz4080
      @anindyaxyz4080 2 роки тому

      @@GregNangle As far as I remember, the ICC had already cleared Murali before the Emerson saga happened. I don't know if you know this, but Emerson even called Murali's leg breaks that day. So, if there is any bias at all, it's there in his mind and in the minds of people still defending him.

    Murali did and does a huge service in Sri Lanka more than you think.
    Being a Sinhalese myself, we used to hate Tamils because of anti-Sinhalese terrorists like prabakaran and racist politicians as a kid. But Murali, was one of the few Tamils who proved us that wasn't a war between Sinhalese and Tamils but a war between humanity and inhumanity. While politicians from Jaffna rallying Tamils up to destroy Sinhalese people, "Murali", He stood up with all the people without considering Sinhala or Tamils representing their side. Even though his house was destroyed by racist Sinhalese politicians and was labelled as a "Throgi(traitor)" among Tamils. He is not only a legend in cricket, but also a hero for me.
    Romba nanri Murali anna❤
