Arjuna is one of the best captains in cricket history Not for what he achieved, but because he overachieved with the talent he was given He had 2 great batsman 1 great bowler And the rest were average And he won a WC Was fairly competitive wherever they went for 6-8 years under him
Ranatunga had real guts. This was in the late 1990s when Asian block was still to emerge as the top financial power in cricket. Australian Cricket Board thought that they could still kick us around. Imran, Ranatunga and Ganguly. Three captains who changed the way their countries played cricket. Brought real pride and removed centuries old inferiority complex.
All the umpire did (what other umpires were stating in private but too bloody scared to act on) was to call no balls due to his action. Which by the way was why the ICC changed the rule to allow him to continue. It isn’t the first time an Australian umpire has called someone for an illegal bowling action. Colin Egar from South Australia called him in a test match against South Africa no balled him for an illegal action in 1963. When Richie Benaud was informed he pulled Meckiff out of the balling attack, no carrying on like a pork chop like Ranatunga, Benaud accepted the call. If it Murali had a legal action, why did the change the rules. Captains behaving badly. The funny part about this is, the ICC had heard 12 months before that the majority of umpires privately had concerns about his actions, yet the ICC and Sri Lankan cricket did absolutely nothing to address this situation. Stop blaming the umpire for carrying out the rule correctly! Blame those who sat on their hands and did nothing.
@@srujanasri4584 what a load of crap. Firstly there is the correct way to go about it as R. Benaud did when Meckiff from Australia was deemed to have an illegal action . No need to remonstrate as Ranatunga did. Secondly the Umpire was following the rules of cricket and carried out his duties by informing the captain and the bowler. He had 3 warnings . If the umpire was wrong why did the ICC then change the degree so the bowler was allowed to continue his career. Australia has never been jealous of any Country in sports at all. Considering our population we punch well above our weight.
@@michaelslavin1601 ICC changed the rules after it was evident even pace bowlers (including the men in yellow) were flexing more than the limit. They did a test of this on the 2004 champions trophy if I remember and that's where the rule change came in.

Wasn't a showman like Warnie but if I had to pick a spinner to win me a game against good players of spin I'd be choosing Murali.
Perhaps you should see how Murali's bowling average was in Australia.
5 tests, 12 wickets, 75.41
And what about comparing tests they opposed each other, same grounds & (arguably) Warne bowling to better players of spin?
11 Tests
Warne - 59 wickets @ 25.54
Murali - 55 wickets@ 31.41
No thanks, give me Warne everyday, not that I am an admirer of his off field efforts, but on field, every time, #1 for me.

The captain did right but the umpires and Australia were jealous of India, srilanka,Pakistan and Bangladesh
