  • SCG - 1993. The World Series 1st Final. On 16th January 1993, the mighty West Indians faced hosts Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground for the first of the best-of-three World Series finals. The Windies posted 239/8, courtesy a battling 67 from the legendary Brian Lara.
What Deano thinks of the stupid move now - Click the link below.
    www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/...
Identifying the threat posed by pace maestro Curtly Ambrose, the Aussies decided to ruffle the gangly bowler. It was Dean Jones who decided to bite the bullet, suggesting to the umpire that Ambrose should remove his white sweatband.
    #deanjones #legend #deanjonesvscurtly
With the slightest movement behind the sightscreen affecting the batsman’s rhythm, Jones’s intentions might have been genuine. Ambrose had quite a colourful history with the Australians and more often than not, reserved his best against them.
After a long chat with Ambrose and West Indies skipper Richie Richardson, the former took off his sweatband. It was mayhem from there, and the Australians were only too familiar with it.
Jones, recounting the West Indian’s spell, said, “The next three deliveries I faced after Ambrose took off his sweatband were the fastest deliveries I have faced in my life.” The Australian batter also revealed that his teammate Mark Taylor had also given him a hard time about ruffling Ambrose’s feathers, fearing a backlash. "Umpire Prue has a difficult task here: he has to convince Curtly Ambrose, who is six-foot-eight”, said Richie Benaud on air.
    #deanjones #ambrose #sweatband
Predictably, the statuesque pacer stamped his authority over his opponents with pace and guile, and set up batsmen into making mistakes. Mark Waugh and Ian Healy fought hard but the day once again belonged to Ambrose, who finished with a figures of 5/32. West Indies won the match by 25 runs. His banter with Junior Murray at the end of the game showed how much Ambrose enjoyed dismantling the Aussies. Sledge him at your own peril!

@@flash-uj6ly curtly Ambrose is a fast bowler so why does he need to bowl a carrom ball? It's for spinners.
And you're talking about Dhoni while I respect Dhoni but belive me none of the modern day batsmen would have survived in front of those lethal bowling attacks of Ambrose,Walsh,Akram,Waqar,Donald,Pollock,McGrath,Warne,Muralidharan etc. In those days the normal bowling speed of fast bowlers would be more than 140kmph.

About 2 weeks after this removing of the wrist band incident occurred, Ambrose destroyed Australia in the deciding Test Match at the WACA in Perth with a devastating spell of 7 for 1 (that's 7 wickets for 1 run, not the other way around). Australia were crushed by an innings inside of 3 days, the West Indies won the series, and Ambrose got 3 individual awards all at the same time immediately after. Those awards were the player of the match, the player of the test series, and the player of the entire Australian summer.

5:56 That ball from release took 0.933 seconds to hit the wicket. I found this out by looking frame by frame to see the contact.
The popping crease to the wicket measures 18.9 metres.
By doing 18.9/0.933, and then multiplying this by 2.237 (conversion from m/s to mph), we get the answer for how fast that ball was bowled at.

What would the Kohlis of today done against the ferocious bowlers of the 80s and early 90s. That too on full sized bouncy pitches and no field restrictions. Cricket died after the 90s and what we have today is a boring circus. Prefer watching WWE to cricket today. Atleast WWE is very entertaining.
