Hard to think of a more iconic feat of strength besides natural stones though. And unlike natural stones they are uniform so the actual weight can be pushed to the limit.
I think the stone to shoulder is pretty cool, but it relies a lot on technique and finess, you can have Mateusz get 5 reps and 2/3 the comp not get 1, but I still love the event
I liked in the ‘00’s when they removed tacky from the stones. Event a slant on an event like that can make it interesting again. Watching stones now verses, 1988 was a different beast too, but yeah I am a little tired of seeing the same events myself. Would be great to see deadlift with no straps too.
Always interesting to see how the Atlas Stones will be set up. I always liked the ring setup from IFSA, and the recent extra long setup from Bahrain was good as well.
Excited for this show. I think the max log event might give us a crazy lift or 2! Hicksy and Luke Stoltman turning up in shape... I wish the 2nd pressing event was a block press though. I love that event, and you don't see much of it these days.
Superb events and love that he has included a squat. Most of the best athletes have been invited as well. 8 events is so much better than the normal 5-6. Only issue I see is its so close to Europe's Strongest Man so some of the line up might decide to save themselves for that rather than the Shaw Classic. Tom Stoltman already said he wanted to win Europe's this year and he might not be able to peak for both. Really looking forward to this comp💪
You hit the nail on the head. This competition is about the winner, not about the records. That’s exactly why I tend to lean towards years past. As a fan of strongman I’ve gotten to the point when I hear “Max” anything I roll my eyes. I’m done with Max Events. The head to heads like even Car Holds, Fingal’s Fingers, Yoke and Farmers events are terribly neglected these days. Love seeing squat events, and men from the boys on squat from one of the best squatters ever. Got to love it. Great stuff as always guys.
Thanks guys!! I love your reviews and honesty when talking all subjects with in strongman! 💯 agree about the natural stones just as a switch up. I really hope he has everything heavy again! That is my favourite thing about last year. How everything was so heavy! That to me means more than athleticism in strongman. @@troywalker8078 Not sure. Aside from last year ESM is usually stacked asf and the big appeal lies in performing in front of thousands. I've been, it really is a fantastic show. Having said that, I'm really looking forward to this.

The SHAW CLASSIC is shaping up to take the place of the Major Strong man contests. I Love it and looking forward to being there . Hope to see you Loz and Liz there hopefully y'all can make the trip here would Love to meet you both . Love the show ,and Love y'all too.
This is a fantastic competition. Brian has put together a great line up of competitors and events. Im looking forward to the max events and I like the dumbbell press.
I'm excited to see how this event and the other "newer" contests (WUS, Rougue Invitational, World Strongman Games) develop and shake out over the next few years. My hope is that eventually things turm out a bit like golf or tennis where you have 4-5 events that are considered co-equal "majors" spread out over the calendar. and where all the top guys compete when they are healthy.
Brian is putting together a hell of an event with the contestants, events, and format with so much head to head. I could see his event growing in prestige right up there with the Arnold. Hopefully as things return to normal and scheduling isn’t forced to be so clustered, they can be spread out so the athletes can attend all of them.
This is going to be a good show. I think the squat will change things a little bit especially with people like mateuz and Maxine who aren’t big dead lifters so they may want to push it on the squat and go for top placing to make up for their likely low placing in the deadlift
I’m really excited about this. My only real criticism of last years comp was when they forced everyone to sit on the results for a few days (WSM style) before he could do the big reveal. That was weird and is the kind of behaviour that prevents strongman growing. Results should never sit behind a paywall. Footage, maybe, but not results.
It was to encourage more people to buy the show, which meant a higher payout for the athletes. I'm ok with it in this case, not like how WSM has done it for years, since they had a TV deal and guaranteed money.
do you think Brian should compete aswell? I think thats bit of a no for me when its your own show in your own home. also altitude is a killer when your not used to it that affected them alot last year. but Brian is used to it

It truly is the best way to test the athletes and their capabilities as an all rounded strength athlete.
38 to 39 seems to be max ages for winners ,after, aging with loss of higher % of muscle fibers means also rans. Shaw Classic great for fans but if not widely seen means it's unknown & less popular to public compared to Arnold's.
Have you seen video from Novikov. You suspected that he really thinks about each event and his video confirmed that. He is strongman genius. Also, not sure Mateuz will be ready based on his latest rehab video.
This is gonna be awesome, I love the idea of having a bigger field and a couple more events. It'll be so much more 'informative' on the standing of each athlete. Hyped to see Z there no matter how he performs
Wheelbarrow and vertical arm over arm are pretty common events in Finland's Strongest Man. And very cool and brutal looking events too! Takes a lot from ones forearms!
I'm very excited. My *only* issue is how many events are the same as last year. I get that log and hummer tire are iconic, as are stones and dumbbell and super yoke, and I get that he's got some cool new additions, but it would have been nice to see less overlap (5/8). Maybe next year he should go with an axle press and an elephant bar, or an axle deadlift, do a dumbbell medley, whatever, there's SO many events to choose from and it's just unfortunate to see so many come back. 113% agreed that 8 events is the way to go though. Given that, IMO this will be the deciding factor for 2021 best strongman.... ESPECIALLY if we see the same winner here as WSM.
The 7 dislikes are the athletes that have been competing "under the radar". This will actually decide the worlds strongest man. Please Uncle Loz and Aunt Liz, we are begging you to commentate this!
Real shame that Martins won't be part of this. Can imagine a fit Martins would love these varied events - and would be a contender for the car squat win
Yeah but he's only really hitting his recovery period now after the stem cell treatment so he'll need this year to catch up and then improve if he wants to be as competitive as he was. What age is he now? I'm sure he has plenty more years so hopefully this stands to him.
@@colmwhateveryoulike3240 he isnt going not because of recovery mate, but because he is just mad at Brian and acts like a child ,the way he responded in his video was looking like a 15y.o. teenager ,i thought he is much more of a man and was really dissapointed in his behaviour. He will probably never win anything big again since we all know the year he won both Brian / Thor had injuries and nowadays Mateusz / Tom and Novakov are just on another level and keep improving.
@@s7r1d3r777 I don't think that's fair. He said he was so busy setting up the new gym. He and Brian sorted it out in one of Shaw's videos. At WSM 19 Shaw didn't get injured until the very last event and was so far behind Martins he couldn't have caught him even if he won the stones.
I think with the squat being the last event on day one, the athlete's that go later on in the event will have a massage advantage in knowing if one, two or even 3 reps will move then up higher in the points table
How the hell does OB keep getting invited to competitions when he never places or improves? Shame he’s taking up a spot that could’ve been filled by upcoming athletes such as Bobby Thompson or Wesley Claborn.
Hard to say with injuries and scheduling I imagine Bobby was invited since he came and did really well in the first Shaw Classic and has been on an up trend ever since.
OB is one of the most entertaining athletes to watch. I think that any competition would benefit a lot from having him. Yes, he is not the best and doesn't improve a lot. But he still pretty good and entertaining to me, a lot more entertaining than the average strongman.
@@kolerhcp he’s not to everyone’s taste though, and even if he was, how damaging is it to the image of strongman as a professional sport when promoters invite the most entertaining over ‘the best’? This isn’t the WWE. And he might be entertaining on UA-cam, but he isn’t in competition.
@@adamrawlifting6933 Its funny, I constantly hear "well he's one of the most entertaining guys". There's plenty of guys out there now who put on a show in competition but can also back it up with a fantastic performance. Hyped to see Z there no matter how he performs
Very excited. Uncle Loz should commentate!
An organizer who's competing that's like a game developer playing their game...you know it's going to be good!
Wheelbarrow and vertical arm over arm are pretty common events in Finland's Strongest Man. And very cool and brutal looking events too! Takes a lot from ones forearms!
So excited!
Great to see a good variety of events!0!0
Squat for max reps takes a piece of your soul away.
I thought history was being rewritten with lovely Liz, I'm so happy aunty prevailed
Natural stones would be awesome! If it’s head to head would be hard to do.
Natural stones would have to be one competitor at a time. But, the awesomeness would outweigh the logistics; especially as a final event.
The 7 dislikes are the athletes that have been competing "under the radar". This will actually decide the worlds strongest man. Please Uncle Loz and Aunt Liz, we are begging you to commentate this!
Frankly that's a fuckin absurd lineup, I really hope it stays that stacked, no injuries or changes or anything
Wheelbarrow to seated arm over arm will be a great event !
@big loz official What about a head to head power stairs instead of atlas stones as final event for some variety?
I miss the power stairs!
That little “hello Brian” with the sound effect had me laughing so hard hahaha
@@s7r1d3r777 I thought he was just being funny no? I wasn't sure though. He seems goofy though.
I was just wondering why he doesn't do these. Last years either
Liz looks to young to call her auntie ;)
Ps. as a Polish I can say that you pronounce Mateusz Kieliszkowski name very well ;)
The nodding uncle Loz needs to be a meme
I cant wait to see Maxime smashing his forehead to psych up, lol. last years shaw classic was amazing
Thanks, good analysis
With so many guys and events I can't help think a well rounded guy like JF Caron or Brian Shaw has the best chance of winning.
Its unbelkeavable to have such a huge nr of athletes and almost all of them are insane!
I am super excited ! 17 amazing strong men and 8 events = amazing show . I am rooting for Luke Stoltman ! :D
Cherry on top would be uncle Loz on the commentary box and breaking down the events and the athletes with real time data 😍
This is going to be a great show. I can't wait
For a big guy loz you've got one of the most calming well spoken voices I've heard out of all the strong men! Could calm any situation lol. 💪
Zydrunas got 195kg in log some months ago, thats enough to pair a few competitors
looks great cant wait for this
8 events is brilliant. I seriously hope WSM take note and follow suit. The sport is moving forward and WSM have to make sure they're not left behind.
I am thrilled that it isn't groups.
I think with the squat being the last event on day one, the athlete's that go later on in the event will have a massage advantage in knowing if one, two or even 3 reps will move then up higher in the points table
I imagine to keep the results secret to each athlete would be cool. everyone would have to kill themself in this event
This is a strongman show, people are always quick to come out with bull like "it's the fastest man, not the strongest" but the same guys are more than happy to have a guy compete there solely for the entertainment value he brings lmao. What a joke.
@@kolerhcp He isn't at all though. I've watched him at giants live twice and he didn't bring anything in particular to the show in regards to entertainment factor. In fact the only entertainment he brought was his fairly poor performance after saying he would dominate, that was certainly fun to see.
Id love to see more events including water in strongman.. like pulling a boat over a lake or something like that ??
Going to be awesome
