Other than one event that someone 20 repped while others zeroed and a bag over bar that was more cardio than strength. Sounds like Shaw tried to bring some of that WSM flavour and the it suffered the same problems.

Honestly Jerry is who I'm most gutted about in terms of injury. 2020 was like Jerry got new life in him, but now injuries just plaguing him and keeping him back. Same with Shivlyakov, just can't catch a break, constant injuries. Really hope the best for both of them.

Great show, you can tell the athletes are having a good time and it feels a lot more relaxed than WSM, WUS or Giants Live. However, they do have some work to do on the production side. When they start up day two and go for almost two full hours of video with a running commentary, and don't take time to mention who is injured or skipping an event, it makes for very, very confusing viewing. Also, the guy who was commenting alongside Terry seems like a nice fellow, but he consistently got names wrong, repeated himself a lot, and also mixed up competitors multiple times. If they get two experienced commentators, even if one is more there for color, it'd bring the total impression up a lot. Oh, and ffs put some numbers on screen so we can tell what weights they're on without praying that the camera will swing wide enough that we catch a glimpse of the sign. :p

Trey also did finish the wheelbarrow and got a few pulls on the arm over arm. But afterward they ruled he didn’t finish the wheelbarrow by a few inches and his arm over arm was not counted. It was kinda BS because the judges should have notified him during the event the wheelbarrow didn’t make it before he jumped over to the arm over arm.

I was in a comp with a car squat with a frame like at the Shaw classic. Its ridiculously easy due to the leverages. Think everyone got between 15-30 reps (was only a kia picanto) Ideally you need adjustable height bar, set for each athlete beforehand to hit a decent depth, and a line so you cant have your feet too far forward really work with the leverage. Is an awesome looking event though.

Could work actually, farmer's walk for max weight with set distance. Have the competitors pick from a set of different items to put in some kind containers with handles, a nice risk vs reward gamble.

I agree to an extent on the squat, but since when is strongman about traditional squatting? I do think the technique requirements needed to be worked out a bit better on it, though, and that’s why it favored who it did.

I can see the shaw classic holding a prestige in about 10 years times, not comparing it to the arnolds but the way the weights tend to be much higher in the arnolds is why big z is better than pudzianowski, if the shaw classic continues to be big and awkward and a real test of strength then i can really see it being one of the top prestigious shows out there

People keep mentioning the altitude. Let me tell you, for ANY cardio type work it makes a huge difference. I regularly go hiking at altitudes in the 5000 ft to 9000 ft range (1500 m to 2750 m) and have adjusted to it. I had a friend visit recently who lives at sea level. He is very fit and goes running/jogging often. On one particular trail that I do a lot, I rarely (if ever) have to stop for a breather. It's just go, go, go. My best time is 1 hour and 25 minutes. When he went with me on it, it took us 3 hours.

The altitude will kill you if you haven't trained in it. I've been to 12000ft and any amount of activity will drain you extremely fast.
